Google reveals Nigerian states with highest gay porn search

Google Trends has revealed the Nigerian states with the highest search for gay pornography on the platform.

According to the 2019 Google_Trends statistics 2019, South-Eastern states ranked the highest amongst the states searching for gay pornography in Nigeria and closely followed by South-South states.

Iran’s senior officer claims Iran missiles killed 80 US ‘terrorists’

Iran launched 15 missiles on US targets in Iraq in retaliation to the death of Qassem Soleimani, who was buried on Wednesday.

Iranian state television has quoted a senior Revolutionary Guards Corps as claiming that at least 80 “American terrorists” were killed in missile attacks on US bases on Wednesday.

The television added that none of the missiles were intercepted by US troops, according to Al Jazeera.

The claim could not be independently verified and the state television did not provide evidence of how it obtained that information.

Citing a senior Revolutionary Guards Corps source, the state television also said “Iran had 100 other targets in the region in its sights if Washington took any retaliatory measures.”

It also said “US helicopters and military equipment were severely damaged.”

US had since reacted to the attack after Iran announced that it carried out “a successful operation called Operation Martyr Soleimani, with the code Oh Zahra”.

US soldier killed in Kenya by Al-Shabaab has been identified

The Pentagon has identified the U.S. soldier killed in an al-Shabaab attack in Kenya on Sunday. He was Army Spc. Henry “Mitch” Mayfield Jr.

Mayfield Jr., 23, died while supporting Operation Octave Shield, the name for the mission focused on targeting militant groups in Somalia, the Pentagon said.

He was killed during an attack that included mortars and small arms fire. The attackers breached the base’s perimeter and damaged six aircraft.

There was no immediate information released regarding how Mayfield was killed during the attack.

Mayfield was assigned to 1st Battalion, 58th Aviation Regiment, 164th Theater Airfield Operations Group, out of Fort Rucker, Alabama. His battalion provides expeditionary air traffic control and airfield management.

Mayfield and two DoD contractors died after the attack on Manda Bay Airfield, which is roughly 150 miles south of the Kenya-Somalia border. Two other Defense Department members were also injured in the attack, but remain in stable condition, according to U.S. Africa Command.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Specialist Henry ‘Mitch’ Mayfield’s family, friends and loved ones,” said Col. William Garber, commander of the fallen soldier’s unit.

“Mayfield was a dynamic soldier who inspired those he served with to excel both on and off duty. The 164th Theater Airfield Operations Group will miss his leadership and camaraderie.”

Maj.-Gen. Qassem Soleimani, Commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, was killed in a US airstrike on his convoy at Baghdad airport on Friday rising the tension of another World War.

The airstrike, which was an order from US President Donald Trump, has since generated a lot of controversies and reactions from world leaders.

The meeting, according Macron’s office, was to make efforts to dampen tensions in the Middle East.

“The two presidents agreed to remain in close contact to avoid any further escalation in tensions and in order to act to ensure stability in Iraq and the broader region,” Macron’s office said, according Aljazeera.

Macron also discussed the situation with the defacto ruler of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

“The two leaders underlined the importance of fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) and dealing with the political crisis in Libya,” the statement added.

The Canadian government’s travel advisory service tweeted that it has “updated security advice for multiple destinations in the region due to an increased threat of attacks.”

Tensions have escalated in the Gulf since the U.S. drone attack, ordered by President Donald Trump, killed Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy chief of Iraq’s paramilitary Hashd Shaabi forces.

Canada said there is an extreme risk to personal safety in the Middle East countries and people already there should consider leaving and that citizens traveling to the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait should exercise high degree of caution.

Canadian Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan is reported to have said early Saturday that Canada temporarily suspended a Canada-commanding NATO training mission in Iraq.

“We are taking all necessary precautions for the safety and security of our civilian and military personnel,” Sajjan said in a statement.

The NATO mission run by Canadian General Jennie Carignan is reportedly a “non-combat, advisory and training” mission.

Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne on Friday in a statement called on all sides to exercise restraint and pursue de-escalation after the U.S. airstrike, adding that “The safety and well-being of Canadians in Iraq and the region, including our troops and diplomats, is our paramount concern. We call on all sides to exercise restraint and pursue de-escalation”.

The United States has also asked its citizens in Iraq to leave immediately, while Iran vowed “harsh retaliation” against the United States killing of Soleimani, described by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as a heinous crime.

Anti-war demonstrators took to the streets in cities across the U.S. and in London on Saturday to protest Washington’s killing of the top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in Iraq and urge restraint by western governments.

“No justice, no peace, U.S. out of the Middle East,” crowds chanted in New York’s Times Square, holding signs that read “Stop bombing Iraq” and “No war or sanctions on Iran.”

There were similar scenes in Chicago, where around 200 protesters gathered outside the Trump Tower, and in Philadelphia, where about 500 people demonstrated.

The actor and activist Jane Fonda joined a rally outside the White House in Washington.

Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER), a U.S.-based anti-war coalition, said it and other groups planned around 70 protests after President Donald Trump ordered an airstrike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the powerful commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force.

The move has sharply escalated tensions in the region. Iranian leaders have vowed “harsh retaliation” for Soleimani’s killing, while Trump defended his decision by saying he had ordered the strike “to stop a war.”

ANSWER said on its website that the protests are “against a new war in the Middle East and calling for the withdrawal of all U.S. troops and bases in the region,” after the Pentagon announced it was deploying around 3,000 additional troops there.

In London, senior lawmakers from Britain’s main opposition Labour party joined dozens of anti-war protesters to urge restraint by Western governments amid tension with Iran.

The Stop the War Coalition organized the protest outside Downing Street, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s official residence.

“From our experience of the build-up to the (2003) Iraq war, it’s vitally important for us to stand up firmly and early for peace,” Labour shadow chancellor John McDonnell tweeted.

Richard Burgon, Labour’s shadow justice minister, told the protesters that former U.S. president George W Bush had made clear in a speech 17 years ago that the U.S. “would launch war on Iraq, regardless of whether there was UN backing or not.”

“And to our shame, our government signed up to that,” Burgon said, adding that “hundreds of thousands of Iraqis died [and] millions of Iraqi lives were destroyed” in the war.

“But a war on Iran could be even more deadly.

” It risks a new full-scale war in the Middle East that could spiral out of control,” he said.

Ahead of the protest, Stop the War Coalition convenor Lindsey German said the killing of Soleimani was “an act of war” by Trump.

“Trump has been heading for war since tearing up the nuclear deal with Iran, and if he succeeds, (he) will create a bigger war than we have seen in the Middle East,” German said.

Anti-war protests also took place in Berlin and in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Ottawa.

Three other persons were critically injured. No one has claimed responsibility for the strike.

Soleimani was killed in an airstrike at Baghdad airport early on Friday on the orders of President Donald Trump, the U.S. Department of Defence said in a statement.

The 62-year-old led Iranian operations in the Middle East as head of the elite Quds Force. Trump said he caused millions of deaths, according to the BBC.

In reaction, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has threatened “severe revenge” on those responsible for Soleimani’s death.



Iran’s National Security Council has also vowed to effect “harsh vengeance” on the U.S. for the killing, the BBC reports.

“The U.S. regime will be responsible for the consequences of this criminal adventurism.

“This was the biggest US strategic blunder in the West Asia region, and America will not easily escape its consequences,” the medium quoted the council as saying in a statement.

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has urged American citizens to “depart Iraq immediately” following the airstrike.

In a security alert issued on Friday morning, the embassy reportedly told citizens to “depart via airline while possible, and failing that, to other countries via land”.

The president said the withdrawal will be gradual and carefully planned, not abrupt or arbitrary to jeopardise the success already recorded by the military.

Reacting to concerns and appeals from governors and community leaders over the proposed withdrawal

President Buhari said the “administration will not abandon citizens in need of protection.”

He urged Nigerians, especially public affairs analysts, to carefully study the statement following a security council meeting with service chiefs that the withdrawal of troops will be done after an “assessment” to determine areas where peace had returned to enable civil authorities assume full control.

President Buhari said where it is determined that the withdrawal will not in any way jeopardize peace already achieved, the military pull out will be in a careful and gradual way.

“You don’t need to worry. We will not expose our people and their communities to harm or danger,” the President assured.

“The withdrawal is to allow the military focus on its primary duty of defending the nation against external aggression. It is the duty of the police to handle internal security since Nigeria is not at war.

“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps will support the police to provide internal security. When it is time to withdraw, nothing will be rushed,’’ he added.

Pope Francis smack woman’s hand to free himself from her grip

Leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis has been captured angrily smacking the hands of a woman who gripped his hands as he was happily greeting children and pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square on Tuesday.

The coming of the New Year 2020 is symbolic in many ways. First, it heralds a brand new decade. Secondly, and probably more important, is that this New Year will require us all to stay together more than ever before to take on, head front, the common enemy of insecurity that challenge our everyday lives as Nigerians.

I do not share the sentiment when some people claim that the outgone 2019 was a successful year for Nigerians. Such sentiments is reductionist and does the harm of making us have a false sense of victory.

The bitter truth is that Nigeria is still in the throes of economic instability, with more people losing jobs and the attendant outcome of more children being out of school and more families having hard time in accessing basic needs of life.

In this New Year, however, I will rather ask that Nigerians stand together with renewed vigour and determination to battle the hydra-headed demon of insecurity that has plagued us in the past decade.

We must challenge the inadequacies that made us become the global headquarters of extreme poverty; much as we must work hard and fast enough to eliminate the scourge of out-of-school children in the country. These are the challenges that this new decade has thrown at us and we cannot afford to slumber and submit to defeat.

The problems of extreme poverty and scant investments in education play huge roles in fueling the problems of violent extremism that we spent the past decade contending with. We cannot win the fight against terrorism if we do nothing to reduce or eliminate poverty and illiteracy.

The reality of this new decade requires of us to recalibrate our approaches and to pursue some tough choices. If failure is not an option, then we must let go of our egos and conveniences. In this new decade, we must start to do things differently if we are honest about our desire for a better and prosperous future.

There must be a deliberate effort to improve the material wellbeing of the people, by lifting millions of Nigerians out of the extreme poverty belt at a start, and to prosperity. Government must rethink many of its policies that is sinking more people into the abyss of extreme poverty.

It is incumbent on government at all levels to pursue policies that will provide decent housing to the mass majority; put food on the table; provide healthcare and education. We cannot continue to do things the same way and expect a different outcome.

It is therefore high time we caused a rejig of economic policies that will promote an expansion of the economy and create jobs opportunities aplenty. At the individual level, this moment calls for more empathy and sacrifice. The New Year and a new decade come with the opportunity to make better impressions in our lives and in the lives of people around us.

I wish to restate that our collective call for rule of law and our history about the struggle for democratic rule did not envisage a situation where judicial pronouncements would be worth less than the paper upon which they are rendered. It is a bad advertisement for the country and its democracy if declarations made by the court are not respected without the executive arm of government agreeing to same.

Any democracy is not worth the appellation if the principle of separation of power is not ingrained in it. In the new year, government should not pretend to be democratic, but rather act according to the fundamentals of a democracy.

Above all, I expect that in the New Year there will be a better observance of rule of law and greater respect for citizens’ democratic rights. While we anticipate a change of attitude across board in the new year and new decade, I wish every Nigerian a happy and prosperous 2020. – AA.

Olusegun Obasanjo warns of impending bankruptcy under Buhari

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned of an impending bankruptcy under the Buhari-led administration over its penchant for loans.

Speaking at the first edition of the Nigerian Story organised by the ‘Why I Am Alive’ campaign in Lagos on Friday December 27, Obasanjo warned that things might get worse in the country as 50% of its foreign earnings is allegedly being used to service debts.

He added that Nigeria is closer to the prevalent situation in the 70’s and 80’s which plunged it alongside other African countries into unservicable debts.

Though the former President admitted that it might not be totally wrong to take loans to finance growth and development, he however stated that such decisions ought to come with a high degree of discipline, responsibility and foresight.

Pointing out some projects including the Lagos light rail project which seem to have been abandoned after loans were taken to execute them, Obasanjo stated that the Nigerian government is notoriously deficient in serious and adequate discipline and most often lack competence and consistency.

He said;

“As at 2015, total external debt was about $10.32billion. In four years, our external debt grew to N24,947 trillion or $81.274 billion. To service this current level of indebtedness, we must commit at least 50 per cent of our foreign earnings, such a situation tells about an impending bankruptcy because no entity can survive while devoting 50 per cent of its revenue to debt servicing.

“In 2018, total debt servicing cost took over 60 per cent of government revenue. As if this is not bad enough, we are currently seeking to add another $29.6 billion loan to our already overburdened debt portfolio.

“Our current budget, out of which we are spending 25 per cent to service debt is not our total earnings, a lot of it is also borrowing. We are borrowing to service what we have borrowed and yet we are borrowing more.”

This is coming after President Buhari submitted a loan request of $29.6bn to the National Assembly. A similar request had been rejected by the 8th Senate under Bukola Saraki.

Young Man attempts to forcefully board moving Air Peace plane

A man in his twenties has been arrested for attempting to gain entrance into an Air Peace aircraft through the wheel-well.

The aircraft was already taxing to take off to Owerri when a strange man emerged from the bush to gain entrance through the wheel.

The incident took place at the MMA1 at about 9:10 am on Friday.

Stanley Olisa, Air_Peace spokesman, in a statement said: “This morning, at exactly 9:10 at the MMA1 Lagos, an Owerri-bound Air Peace aircraft(flight P47252) was taxing towards the threshold for take-off, when a man, in his twenties, emerged from the bush along the runway and tried to gain access to the aircraft through the wheel-well.”

He said there was a private jet behind the aircraft and that the pilot in command of the private jet informed the Air Peace pilot in command that a young man obviously in his twenties, was trying to force his way into the aircraft.

Olisa said the security wing of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, was alerted and that the man was accosted and whisked away.

He said the suspect was currently in the regulator’s custody and that when interrogated on why he took the action, the man stated that he thought the aircraft was headed overseas.

“We commend FAAN for its timely intervention. The regulator is already investigating the incident. Air Peace remains committed to the safety of its customers and will continue to demonstrate this commitment in all aspects of its operations. At Air Peace, safety is at the heart of what we do,“ he said.
