TV/Movies / What Is Your Favourite Brand/product And Tell Us Why. by ericfrank: 12:57pm On Aug 24, 2007
I'm fascinated by the relationships that people have with their favourite brands.  I know people who would rather drink nothing if Coke was not available.  In other words they wouldn't touch a Pepsi.  Their feelings are so strong that if the brand were to disappear it would feel like losing a member of your family.  How many of you Nairalanders feel like this about products or brands?  And I don't necessarily think an answer like 'Omo washes whiter' is really the only reason.  Have these brands become like a friend to you.  And why?  Lets share some of our experiences on how we think brands should behave.

I've been thinking about all the people who say the GUINNESS ads are too long. If it's a good advertisment then why should you worry if it is long. Or do you find that the ads interfere with the programs you're wtching. I find that bad ads during my favourite TV shows irritate me. But a good is fine.

So, what is wrong with the GUINNESS 'My friend Udeme ad?' How is it boring?
TV/Movies / Re: Your Favourite And Most Hated TV Adverts? by ericfrank: 10:14am On Apr 05, 2007
Hiya Teemanic. I agree with you that ads are getting better in Nigeria. I also can't understand why a country with such a dynamic film industry can't compete on quality with foreign ads. Do you think it's because people who make films and commercials just want to do cheap productions in order to make bigger profits? If you were given the job to improve the quality of Nigerian films and ads what would you do and how would you do it?
TV/Movies / Re: Your Favourite And Most Hated TV Adverts? by ericfrank: 10:53am On Mar 23, 2007
Singing or music is supposed to attract attention to an advert and if people like the song they will remember the advert and the product. But, when there is too much of it going on it can become irritating. I agree with OMO. It is good to see ads that look at things differently. Ordinary and boring things can become more special like that. Can you think of other ads that do this?
TV/Movies / Re: Your Favourite And Most Hated TV Adverts? by ericfrank: 10:33am On Mar 02, 2007
To Seun's point about logically ridiculous. I think what the ad tries to say is that for instance when kids play and get dirty they are really enjoying being kids and doing what kids do. We should celebrate that kids get dirty and be grateful that Omo can clean up afterwards.

The Vicks blue is very Naija. However, I suppose the people in adland always think that Europe and America are the top standard. Yet, when it comes to things like fashion Africans combine things to make their own style. And they're damn proud of it! Africa is becoming the cool continent all over the world.

Travel / Re: The Lagos City Mall At Onikan by ericfrank: 8:42am On Feb 15, 2007
Ok Constantin. You corrected me very elequently and the points you make are good. If you could design the perfect mall what kind of shops would you have there? What are the big brands you'd sell and what kind of entertainment would you have? I reckon Nigeria as the 6th largest oil producer in the world could challenge Dubai in the mall game.

Hi there newintexas. From the sound of it you really hate this one. Don't you find that when you see bad TV advertising it's almost like you feel they're insulting your intelligence?

It's uncivilised to slap a woman. If you can't reason with your mind you have no right to be in a relationship.

What you all think of TV ads these days.
It seem like a lot of foreign stuff is being used?
Does that mean Nigerian ads are not good enough?
What ads do you like and which ones do you hate?

WHAT IS THIS OBSESSION WITH MALLS?

Seems as if everybody loves the idea of a mall. Why? Is it the shopping, the restaurants or the cinemas? In America and many other parts of the world malls have begun to break up family structures. People just don't entertain at home anymore and children spend entire days playing arcade games instead of reading and broadening their minds. I accept the fact that they are convenient and provide entertainment and spectacle and this alone feels like progress. But, they can be intrusive.

Phones / Re: Mabudala: New GSM Company In Nigeria by ericfrank: 8:33am On Feb 13, 2007
Does Nigeria really need another GSM company. I would have thought MTN and Globacom are quite sufficient. Is this not another money making racket? Or do you think another competitor will help bring prices down. In my experience they all make promises and rarely deliver.

TV/Movies / Re: High Definition TV (HDTV) In Nigeria by ericfrank: 4:12pm On Feb 12, 2007
I don't really know about that. While the quality television content is limited, my understanding is that the film culture is incredibly powerful. I don't know if you realise how far Nollywood has gone towards capturing the hearts and minds of people all over Africa. Give yourself a pat on the back Nigeria. I really believe that the means to deliver the message will soon follow. As long as you strive to continuously improve the quality of what you produce the rest will follow. Please don't allow yourself to embrace a 'good enough for Nigeria' quality standard. Your ability to tell riveting stories is far beyond that.

Time will tell.

Hey' all,

I think we are still backwards in Nigeria when it comes to TV experience. I was reading punch onlne last week and saw an ad about flat screen TV from Sharp. Over here in Europe we are going HD and very soon TV stations will be transmitting on HD.

What are Nigerian TV stations doing not to be left behind?
