With Chaka, for example, their intermediary is drive wealth US, and they buy stocks with your name. If Chaka goes burst, they cannot take your fund "legally", as they are only a platform for you as an individual to purchase that stock or ETF. Moreover Chaka is owned I.e Citi Investment Capitial . There is trove, bamboo etc, but I like to stick with medium to longterm industry players. Most of the others are business men who's main objective is making profit from exhorbitant fees, which shouldn't be the main motivation.

Another app based in the UK is Dodl which is actually owned by AJbells. Money box, invest engine etc are also available in the UK.

Having an app that purchases several stocks/index fund/ETF is actually a game changer for the average investors. I have tinkered with starting one with much lower fees than what currently obtains, but with questions like yours, I imagine Nigerians may not be exactly ready. Also any management fees above 0.5% -1% annually is actually too expensive, but I see Nigerians unlike people in western world are very comfortable paying this, so I imagine low fees may not tilt people towards patronising low cost players at the moment.

In the end every investor should do their due diligence and take responsibility for their profits and losses.

Best regards

Thanks for this, I doubt if the other fintechs in Nigeria do this, I have some insights on how they are structured but that's a discussion for another day.

For most fintech companies you still have a CSCS number, if you buy an ETF or stocks then it's in your name.

Also for MMF fund bought under those platforms, it should usually be in the investors name, the platform should only be an intermediary between the individual and the mutual fund company. It is the duty of the investors to ask for his investment certificate and have it handy. If those platform go burst, then you can contact the provider or the platform may transfer your details to another platform.

If cowry wise invests your money with their name, then it's a Ponzi scheme and you've got to run.

welldone sir, please help recomend a trusted firm that can offer both MMF & FIXED INCOME FUND

Go to SEC website, look for capital market operators registered at "portfolio manager" reach out to them for their offerings

Top on my list would be
stanbic fund managers.
ARM fund managers.
Gtco
Afrinvest.
United capital.

Investment one doesn't qualify (based on your "offer both MMF & FIXED INCOME FUND"wink since they sold out their fund managing department to gtco but they still offer good investment.

Seems safe, since if they crash you can claim your money from the primary providers. The only issues is you'll be paying more fees than you should. The primary providers take their fees, then cowry wise does the same.

I am very particular about fees. Otherwise, you can probably go ahead.

How do you claim a funds in another persons name?

I mean cowrywise must have invested in their "cowrywise" name, so how do investors lay claim to that?

Am not saying cowrywise is a bad investment, am just asking for clarification sake.

Investment / Nigeria Has Officially Floated Its Naira Currency by ernie4life(m): 11:54am On Jun 14, 2023
Nigeria has officially floated its naira currency after years of sticking with a multiple exchange rate system that spooked investors and hobbled the economy.

Sources familiar with the matter told BusinessDay Wednesday that a market rate based on a willing buyer and a willing seller is currently being quoted by banks who sent out emails to some customers confirming the change.

The I & E window is showing a range of between N750 -N755/$

I work with an asset management firm so most commercial papers are sent to us to share with investors who may be interested.

Oh I see.. but they just had the 2 & 3 in March, why the immediate issue this April for 4 & 5? Is it that they could not enough money as intended in the 2nd and 3rd series or they had urgent need for more money.?

So I think what they do is register the amount they want to raise and then issue the commercial papers in tranches.

If you look at what you posted you will see 2 billion while in mine you will see 1 billion which I think is part of the first one but I don’t know is what determines the timing.

Wow, it's still on. The last notification I got on it from coronation was on the 24th of March stating that the funding date will be 29th March. Maybe they couldn't get enough bid so they decided to continue again.

This is another one. Yours is series 2 and 3 while the one posted is series 4 and 5, check the pictures

Some commercial papers may be guaranteed by another company, Lapo bank or issuing house may guarantee the XYZ commercial papers, this means if you invest in XYZ commercial paper and upon maturity XYZ is unable to pay you, Lapo will pay you back your money, this is a way of adding more security to the commercial paper and boast investors confidence especially for companies that are new in the market.

Disclaimer : All the above are for educational purpose always consult your financial advisor and do your due diligence before investing in any thing.

What should you consider when investing in commercial papers?

First is the company, considering commercial papers are unsecured debt instruments you must ensure that the company has the ability to pay back your funds to avoid stories that touch, one major way to check this is through their credit rating and the rating agency that rated them. Also check their financials if possible who prepared the audit (personally I have preference for the big 5). In their financials what you should be after is their net profit and the cash flows (you can meet a financial analyst for this).

Net Interest rate should be considered when investing in commercial papers, remember that interest on commercial papers investments are subject to withholding tax, you should compare it with similar investment with lower risk like treasury bill and decide if the premium (extra interest) is worth the risk. Lets say company XYZ is offering a 365 days commercial paper at 15% when treasury bills for Same Tenor is offering 14.5% it means the premium for the extra risk is 0.5%, so the question is, is 0.5% worth the extra risk of investing in XYZ commercial paper?

Let's do a short refresher course on commercial papers.

Commercial papers are unsecured money market debt instruments used by organisation with good cash flows to raise short term working capital.

Key points
Commercial papers are the following
- usually unsecured that means no collateral is provided by the organisation.
- money market instrument meaning the highest maturity on commercial papers can not be more than a year.
- proceed from commercial papers are usually used for working capital like buying raw materials or other input materials.

It's also worthy of note that commercial papers are discounted instruments meaning when you invest you have the opportunity of getting your interest upfront and then your capital back on maturity.

Personally, I would be careful investing in commercial papers when treasury bills and government bonds are available. It's higher risk investment, though the interest may sound enticing.

If the government can't pay, they can print more money, it private companies are broke, they declare bankruptcy

True!

If you must invest in Commercial papers I advise you stick to companies with good credit rating from good rating agencies like Augusto Co etc

Good evening to all mutual funds investors, please I'd like anyone who's well informed and at least an expert to a good level to talk about the legitimacy of the Coral mutual fund by fsdh and that of united capital mutual funds compared to the regular popular mutual funds offered by StanbicIBTC, fbnquest, axamansard, gtcofundmanagers, arm.

Is it advisable to invest with that of fsdh and united capital, or stay away from them?

Thanks because I heard that their ROI rates per annum are quite impressive.
