Either God can do nothing to stop catastrophes like this, or he doesn’t care to, or he doesn’t exist. God is either impotent, evil or imaginary. Take your pick, and choose wisely.

Foreign Affairs / Zambia's First Lady, Dr Christine Kaseba-sata, Called For An End To Gay Discrimi by esauy: 10:31am On Nov 11, 2013
Zambia's first lady, Dr Christine Kaseba-Sata, called for an end to discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation during a reception hosted by UNAIDS on Tuesday evening in the country's capital, Lusaka.

This took human rights activists by surprise — this year has seen a rapid deterioration of LGBT rights in the country, with arrests of men on sodomy charges and the prosecution of activist Paul Kasonkomona for calling for the decriminalization of homosexuality during a television appearance. Recently there has also been a waving of outings of LGBT people by Zambian tabloids.

"Silence around issues of men who have sex with men should be stopped and no one should be discriminated against on the basis of their sexual orientation," Kaseba-Saba said. "Rather, we should address reproductive health issues around this issue."

She also reportedly said those working on public health issues among men who have sex with men have the president's support despite the increasingly homophobic climate in the country.

Kaseba-Sata's words could carry special weight because she is one of the country's leading OB/GYNs, practicing and teaching in some of the country's top medical institutions for more than 25 years. She is also the World Health Organization's good will ambassador against gender-based violence for 2014.

"The statement is a breakthrough to the Zambian HIV/AIDS and reproductive health response for sexual minority groups, which also has direct implications to the broader HIV/AIDS and [sexual and reproductive health] response," said Lilian Kiefer, executive director of the development and poverty organization Panos Institute Southern Africa, which is based in Lusaka. "She has demonstrated the kind of leadership and objectivity that is required in comprehensively addressing HIV/AIDS and [reproductive health] from a human rights angle.

In a post published at allAfrica.com Richard Lee of the South African-based human rights organization the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa called the statements a "miracle" and "potentially game-changing" for LGBT rights in the country.

But some LGBT activists were less impressed.

One LGBT activist who asked that his name not be used fearing retribution directed at his organization, told BuzzFeed, "Even as much as we applaud the first lady for making such a bold statement.... It begs the question as to why she has been silent all along."

Her remarks also do not necessarily change policy, he continued. "If this this was a statement issued by the president, it would have been a different story, and then at least it would have had the backing of the head of the executive. However, as things stand, the first lady's opinion does not move mountains in this case."

Religion / Re: Is Atheism Becoming A Religion by esauy: 9:54am On Nov 11, 2013
Calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color. Atheism is more of an ideology regarding the lack of belief in a god or gods, nothing more. If we deconstruct the term ‘atheism’ we find ‘a – theism’ which means ‘without – theism’ which, in turn, means ‘without – belief in god or gods’. It is, therefore, not a positive belief or a claim to knowledge. Atheism is simply the lack of the belief in God.Atheists have no holy writings, no doctrine, and worship no one. Most atheists consider unsubstantiated belief a logical fallacy equivalent to deliberate willful ignorance. Many atheists are scientists and feel like they know that objective reality exists independently of human perception and consider the notion that mental experiences are real to be absurd.

We should all join www.reddit.com r/atheism & recruit atheist voices to come over & help us inject knowledge & reason into this forum. So many of the posts that trend here are literally insane & completely hilarious. I think a lot of atheists would at least find great amusement in the absurdity promoted in the religion Section. Nigeria desperately needs moderate voiced advocating modernity for the good of Nigeria.

Yes we live in a mysterious unfathomable world but the gaps are quickly closing between science & the unknown. Soon we will evolve into cyborgs made up of synthetic body parts that enable us to live forever & travel throughout space & time. Maybe then we will truly be supernatural.

OLAADEGBU: Hope God exists.

Hope which God exists? This is a christian forum so I'm assuming you are referring to Jesus. Well let me ask you what if you get up there and your facing Allah, or Mama Tchamba or Zues for that matter. Then me and you both are going to be sitting next to each saying damn! So your damned if you do and damned if you don't. Better off not believing in any of the Gods and then making up your mind to worship the right one when you meet him in person. At least I didn't tick him off by worshiping the other guy, I just say I don't know

What Your in Nigeria! Look around the slums of Lagos! You can start there and then keep traveling about your homeland and look at the gap between rich and poor and ask yourself why would a good God allow this? Oh, because favor ain't fair. Or you can just take a trip to a slave castle and learn about the torment of your ancestors if the slums of Lagos isn't enough. Man has outdone the devil on many of occasions and is doing a good job of it in Africa today
Religion / Voodoo Priest Brought In To Fix Obamacare Website by esauy: 3:13pm On Nov 10, 2013
WASHINGTON D.C. – USA – A voodoo priest from deepest Africa has been especially flown in to America’s capital city to fix the troubled Obamacare website.

Forget about Java or PHP, the new Obamacare website fixer is using chickens and a special powder that is guaranteed to make the website run correctly.

“President Obama uses this guy a lot. Like he used him for the stock market, and the two election wins. We got a plastic sheet in the oval office spread out so the blood don’t stain the carpet. Obama is at a loss on how this damn website is gonna get fixed. We tried the Google tech boys but they’re too busy on those barges eating profiteroles in the hospitality lounges or sitting on fancy coloured weird shaped sofas to care about Obamacare,” White House spokesman, Harvey Jenkem, told ABC news.

Millions of Americans have been trying to log onto the site to get some much needed Obamacare for over two months, and hopefully the voodoo priest will call on the spirits to open the doors soon.

“Shit, it’s gonna take more than magic to get me some health care. All the doctors in my area have left the profession or retired. I now have to travel 500 miles to get some f*ckin’ treatment at an increased cost of over 300%,” a disgruntled retired fire man told local CBS news stations in Delaware.

Thousands of Obama zombies across the nation, on hearing about the wonderful Obamacare news, started chanting Obama’s name and walking the streets with their hands outstretched, nothing new about that of course.

If Evidence was found that falsified evolution. Fossils might have been discovered that were inexplicably out of sequence. Life forms might not have all been based on the same genetic scheme. Transitional species might not have been observed. As actually thought at the time of Darwin, the age of the sun could have proved too short for evolution. The discovery of nuclear energy changed that, showing that, fueled by nuclear fusion, the sun will last ten billion years—ample time for life to evolve.

Human memories and thoughts might have provided evidence that cannot be plausibly accounted for by known physical processes. Science might have confirmed exceptional powers of the mind that it could not be plausibly explained physically.

Science might have uncovered convincing evidence for an afterlife. For example, a person who had been declared dead by every means known to science might return to life with detailed stories of an afterlife that were later verified. For example, she might meet Jimmy Hoffa who tells her where to find his body.

Similarly, any claim of a revelation obtained during a mystical trance could contain scientifically verifiable information that the subject could not possibly have known.

Physical and historical evidence might have been found for the miraculous events and the important narratives of the scriptures. For example, Roman records might have been found for an earthquake in Judea at the time of a certain crucifixion ordered by Pontius Pilate. Noah’s Ark might have been discovered. The Shroud of Turin might have contained genetic material with no Y-chromosomes. Since the image is that of a man with a beard, this would confirm he was born of a virgin. Or, the genetic material might contain a novel form of coding molecule not found in any other living organism. This would have proven an alien (if not divine) origin of the enshrouded being.

The universe might have been found to be so congenial to human life that it must have been created with human life in mind. Humans might have been able to move from planet to planet, just as easily as they now move from continent to continent, and be able to survive on every planet - even in space - without life support.

Natural events might follow some moral law, rather than morally neutral mathematical laws. For example, lightning might strike only the wicked; people who behave badly might fall sick more often; nuns would always survive plane crashes.

Believers might have had a higher moral sense than nonbelievers and other measurably superior qualities. For example, the jails might be filled with atheists while all believers live happy, prosperous, contented lives surrounded by loving families and pets.

Miracles are observed. For example, prayers are answered; an arm or a leg is regenerated through faith healing.

But none of this has happened. Indeed, the opposite is true in some cases, such as an abnormally low number of atheists in jail. Every claim of a supernatural event has proved false. The hypothesis of God is not confirmed by the evidence. Indeed, that hypothesis is strongly contradicted by the observations of our senses and the instruments of science.

A personal God who has given humans immortal souls fails to agree with the empirical facts that human thoughts, memories, and personalities are governed by physical processes in the brain, which dissolves upon death. No nonphysical or extra-physical powers of “mind” can be found and no evidence exists for an afterlife.

A personal God whose interactions with humans include miraculous interventions such as those reported in scriptures is contradicted by the lack of independent evidence for the alleged miraculous events.

A cosmic God who fine-tuned the laws and constants of physics for life, in particular human life, fails to agree with the fact that the universe is not congenial to human life, being tremendously wasteful of time, space, and matter from the human perspective. It also fails to agree with the fact that the universe is mostly composed of particles in random motion, with complex structures such as galaxies forming less than four percent of the total mass of the universe.

A personal God who communicates directly with humans by means of revelation fails to agree with the fact that no scientifically verifiable new information has ever been transmitted while many wrong and harmful doctrines have been asserted by this means(i.e. witchcraft accusations). No claimed revelation contains information that could not have been already in the head of the person making the claim. Furthermore, physical evidence now conclusively demonstrates that some of the most important biblical narratives, such as the Exodus, never took place.

A personal God who is the source of morality and human values does not exist since the evidence shows that humans define morals and values for themselves. This is not “relative morality.” Believers and nonbelievers alike agree on a common set of morals and values. Even the most devout decide for themselves what is good and what is bad and even judge much of what is approved in scriptures as immoral, such as genocide, slavery, and the oppression of women. Nonbelievers behave no less morally than believers.

A personal God who is omniscient, omnibenevolent, and omnipotent does not exist because it is logically inconsistent with the existence of evil, in particular, gratuitous suffering (standard problem of evil).

Religion / Why Did God Destroy Sodom & Gomorrah But Not The Churches In The Slave Castles? by esauy: 2:18pm On Nov 10, 2013
Religion / Re: Religion Complaints Thread (sticky) by esauy: 9:51am On Nov 08, 2013
From witchcraft being condemned from the pulpits of Pastor Enoch Adeboye & Helen Ukpabio to internet scam artists performing Sakawa rituals to obtain supernatural wealth, from believers dying in fanatical stampedes to see supernatural faith healers like T.B Joshua to the most recent deaths at the Anambra church stampede. How has belief in the supernatural become such an endemic trend in our modern era?

If Juju had any real power, wouldn't the fetish priests have used those powers to ward off the white slave traders of the past? If Witchcraft was real why would governments need weapons of mass destruction? They would just consult individuals with supernatural powers to put a hex on their enemies. I know there's that theory of the Illuminati too but seriously, you really think there needs to be some sort of blood sacrifice to obtain wealth & fame? Why can't we just accept an individuals grotesque accumulation of wealth for what it is, self serving greed, not a result of some diabolical occult ritual?

Where are the YouTube clips of blind eyes opening & limbs growing? Where is the footage of shape shifting children casting spells & flying about during the night? I know the bible says faith is the substance of things hoped for & evidence of things not seen, but why should someone believe in witches & miracle spring water without empirical proof. It just makes it easy for a lot of people to be taken advantage of & falsely accused.

Does anyone have any verifiable testimonials? I mean links to footage or documented evidence of the existence of supernatural occurrences? Would you close your eyes & drive your car on Faith? I hope not, then why is it ok to close your eyes & live a life believing in a supernatural world not seen? Faith, prophecy, revelation, curses, posession all can be easily identified as one thing "Hypnosis" (believed in imagination).

I feel indebted to this forum because it was Africa that made me an Atheist. What Good God would allow people to suffer and be exploited for so long. Nigerians need to start asking Pastor Chris and T.B. Joshua to step off the private jets and elegant mansions they own and take it to the streets to fight corruption and establish infrastructure, transparency and Jobs for Africans. Bill Gates is doing more to fight Malaria than any Christian. Did you see how righteous Pat Robertson used Aid to the Rwanda conflict as a cover to fly in his factory trawlers to dredge diamonds with the assistance of warlords? Keep your blind faith on that straight and narrow path and watch yourself continue to be taken advantage off by the oppressor who brought you your Abrahamic Faith. Blind leading leading the Blind, open up your eyes, read these links and tell me if your still a believer? If you have the courage to truly read these links you will understand how I can be an atheist.
