CareerOpen Letter To Total E&p Nigeria by etim4school(op): 9:07am On May 31, 2016
I have always been passionate about life, living my dreams and believing in the conquest of Providence, defining my root and adjoining the tracks to the solitude of virtue. This has always being my watchword as am now graduate of Chemical Engineering, University of Uyo, Nigeria. While in my school days I won a host community slot in the community assistance social corporate responsibility package of Total E&P, Nigeria. Having won the scholarship award which added to my laurels and zeal to excel in school, I worked harder than I could, I stretched, expanded and shouldered the responsibility to come out with good grades. The scholarship was to last from the 2009/2010 academic session to 2013/2014 academic session. I was paid on the specified dates 12/03/2012 (#300,000),17/09/2013 (#150,000) and 07/01/2014 (#150,000). The latter being the last time I ever got payment issue from Total as my 2013/2014 academic session final year payment has not been paid by them even till date. If we all cry foul to change as prevalent in Nigeria today and the mindset of our people is still fixed at neglecting the other end of struggle... I wonder how we can build a Nation. Nice write up Engr,
From the aforementioned and holistic approach culminating into curative measures with respect to our country's pressing challenge of job creation and provision of Employment opportunities for our teeming graduates that have been withal job placements ...
I agree totally with this master piece as lack of innovation, invention and productivity should not be tolerated in a setting where currency appreciation and economic boost is desired.
I commend you sir and it's worthy to note that if adhered to... Then massive improvement in the state of our nation is not far-fetched.

Lol. My broda, we face d hate on a daily basis, its nothing new. Undeserved bile and hate comes with being a Medic. They think its over hyped and we dnt do shiii. They often compare calculations and Med. Funny thing is most are VERY ignorant of the scope. Math has principles u follow, once u get them, u can solve almost anything requiring d principle. In Med, u read gigantic books for like 12-18 months, it'll feel like fiction cos AS YOU ARE READING IT, YOU ARE FORGETTING IT! Not because u are dull, nah, but because u av so much to learn u cant relate with. EVERY LINE MATTERS. You could read 4 different large books frm different authors and countries fr d same course jst to be sure u get d tiny detail one lacks. You look at ppl in other depts with envy when they write their exams. They can always drop d cramming after a semester. You av to keep it in ur head fr 18months! And u dnt do jst theory or obj oh. You do tests, viva, multiple choice qs. Name it. Anatomy isnt jst Anatomy. Theres Embrology, Gross Anatomy and Histology. I think ppl are really misinformed abt d Medical curricula, thats why they think its over-hyped. Lets try to get informed bfr slamming things dwn. Every course is hard in its own way, yes, but theres a reason why Med has been reverred right frm time all over the world.
And you too failed to understand that calculations in the Engineering profession is very much versatile that you need to interpolate, extrapolate and make deduction and proving in so many Engineering problems, plus several text books you need study to come up with design, plant maintenance etc that you see in our Everyday Life... Let's be logical in our arguments and apply sense of decorum in them... If one is ignorant of the scope in medicine, that in medicine will likewise be ignorant of the scope in Engineering or other disciplines.
CareerRe: How Do I Break Into Oil & Gas Industry In Nigeria? by etim4school: 4:32pm On Sep 17, 2013
x-fire:
Jarus has said it all. Very good contribution, I must say.
But let me add a few things:

Even with a good grade and various certifications, it still takes a bit of luck, chance and timing to break into the oil and gas industry. I know a number of very sound first class engineering graduates still struggling to break into it. I wanna tell you that a lot of guys in the industry would sincerely tell you they were lucky break into the industry. But with hard work and favour on your side, you will smile at the end.

I must admit it's quite difficult to compete with the large number of engineering graduates for very few vacancies. But do keep that option open while you rigorously pursue breaking into the sector via your accounting experience. I have met a few graduates that have crossed over from banks/FCMG to join oil coys as engineers. I advise you to always take the interview stages one at a time. You will be surprised how far you will go.

It's important that you perform wherever you find yourself. Most recruiters are looking for professionals/graduates who can distinguish themselves or have a track record of performance, irrespective of the field of endeavour. So I advise you to make the best use of your opportunity right now. I never started out as an engineer in my sojourn in the labour market.

One last thing:even though first class has enormous advantages, you don't have to have a first class to get into the oil and gas industry. You just need to have a 2.1 and prove yourself in aptitude tests and interviews. Many first class graduates get screened out during these stages. So don't be discouraged in case you didn't make a first class.

TOTAL TAKES A MINIMUM OF 2:2 FROM ENGINEERS WITH AKWA IBOM AND RIVER STATE INDIGENE AS WELL AS ADDAX TAKE MINIMUM OF 2:2 IN ENGINEERING
