Abuja — The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held an emergency meeting on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, where it deliberated on key issues affecting the party and made significant resolutions.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the BoT reaffirmed its role as a key organ of the party as enshrined under Section 13 (1)(r) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017). The board also emphasized its authority under Section 32 (5)(a), which empowers it to ensure high standards of morality within the party and to call erring officers to order.
After considering the report of a committee led by Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), the BoT adopted the recommendation recognizing Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary. This decision aligns with a declaratory judgment by the High Court of Enugu, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

The BoT instructed the NWC to immediately swear in Hon. Udeh-Okoye in compliance with the court judgment.

Party organs, stakeholders, and members were urged to adhere to the Court of Appeal’s judgment regarding the National Secretary position.

The BoT praised the PDP Governors’ Forum, the NWC, and the South-East Executive Committee for their commitment to upholding the party’s constitution and operational guidelines.
The BoT expressed satisfaction with the decision to hold the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on March 13, 2025, viewing it as a platform for critical deliberations shaping the party’s future.
The BoT unanimously passed a vote of confidence on its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, for their leadership in stabilizing the party.
The BoT urged all party members to remain united and work together to strengthen the PDP and reclaim its leadership position in the country
The emergency meeting underscores the PDP’s commitment to resolving internal issues and positioning itself as a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the 27 lawmakers at the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have lost their seats forever.

The party said this in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja.
Ologunagba said that the clarification was necessary following a mischievous report on social media claiming that there were plots to compromise the party’s position to return the defected lawmakers to their seats

Our party therefore stands by its position that the affected members have since lost their seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly, having committed an unpardonable constitutional breach
“For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP, in its counterclaim by its National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1681/2023 filed at the Federal High Court Abuja, stated clearly:

“That the former Rivers State lawmakers “are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from Dec. 11, 2023, when they publicly announced their defection from the PDP to the APC.

“For emphasis, the PDP in the said suit seeks, among others, the following Declaration/Orders against the former Rivers State lawmakers,’’ he said.

He added: “A declaration that by provisions of Section 109 (1)(g) of the Constitution of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the seats of the plaintiffs have been vacant since Dec. 11, 2023, when the plaintiffs announced their defection to the APC.
“A declaration that the plaintiffs are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, having defected to the APC on Dec. 11, 2023.

“An order directing the first defendant (INEC) to conduct bye-election in the respective constituencies of the plaintiffs in compliance with the provisions of the laws
“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the plaintiffs from parading themselves and/or further parading themselves or from performing or further performing the functions and duties of members of Rivers House of Assembly.” (NAN)

The Governor invited the 22 state officers of NUT and the concern teachers led by one Adoye from opobo who complained about the recent deductions by NUT as regards the teachers house and TRCN. His Excellency, after listening to both parties,cautioned Adoye and his group and ask them to support the union because protesting against the union will make them look like rebels and that it may lead to their suspension. He said this should be the last time any group aside the leaders of the union will plan for any protest without channelling their case to the union leaders because he has teachers at heart that if any one will trouble him that it should not be teachers. His Excellency said his first appointment into civil service was as a teacher and that it was teaching profession that made him what he is today. He promised to complete the teachers house to avoid further deductions. For promotion he said 'i know it is your right' for teachers in UBE, we have concluded with them but the senior secondary we are yet because we have not constituted the board but that it will be done in a week time.
