In his acceptance speech, Oyetola said the election was free and fair and thanked the people of Osun State for trusting him with their votes. He also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola, for creating the atmosphere for a democratic process. Read his full statement below: ACCEPTANCE SPEECH BY THE GOVERNOR ELECT OF OSUN, GBOYEGA OYETOLA, AFTER BEING DECLARED WINNER OF THE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION HELD ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2018 Election into the Office of the Governor of the State of Osun was held on Saturday September 22, 2018, in which I flew the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a contest with 47 other candidates, representing their different political parties. From the field report and the tally of the ballots, there was enthusiastic turnout at the polls. The huge number of candidates who vied for the office was unprecedented. Though there were few glitches and challenges here and there, the exercise was satisfactory. We can say there has been substantial compliance with the provisions of the constitution and the Electoral Act. However, the election was declared inconclusive after the first ballot and a rerun was slated for Thursday September 27, 2018 in seven polling units in Ife North, Ife South, Orolu and Osogbo Local Governments Areas of the State. This was disappointing. We had enough evidence and field reports, including signed result sheets, from our agents that confirmed that we won outrightly. However, as democrats, we accepted the verdict in good faith and prepared for the rerun. In the end, I was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after securing the highest number of votes cast in the election. This election has been keenly contested, and a clear winner could not emerge until the tail end. Indeed, there was a dramatic twist in the end that kept us all on the edge and made Osun the focus of national and international attention. This is an indication of how democratic, free, fair and transparent the election was. However, I cannot but observe that the election took place under a much more relaxed and freer atmosphere, compared with the previous elections, particularly the 2014 governorship election, during which the state was put under siege by the then Federal Government. The democratic environment created by the APC under which this election was held is a clear indication of the great political development that has occurred in the past three years of our party’s administration, under President Muhammadu Buhari. This election is primarily a victory for democracy, rule of law and due process. It is a victory for the right of every citizen to participate in their own governance which democracy represents. The victory is an affirmation by the people of Osun in the APC government that has been on the saddle in the past eight years; and the acceptance of our ideology. It is a positive affirmation of our people-friendly policies and the way we have steered the ship of state, even under the most challenging circumstances. This is ultimately a victory for the people of Osun that have been given a voice and a hope of democratic and responsible leadership. I will like to commend and congratulate INEC for successfully conducting a free, fair and credible governorship election. I congratulate also our party, the APC, in Nigeria and South West, for its well-deserved victory at the polls, wrapping up the South West states and giving it the opportunity to use the progressive platform it offers for accelerated development of the region. I also congratulate Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, under whom I cut my political teeth and whose tenure was on trial during the election. I regard the mandate given to me by the good people of Osun as sacred and I am taking it seriously. Of course, I have been part of the new beginning that started eight years ago. Nevertheless, in continuing the glorious path on which I am now very familiar, it is a new beginning for me. I am committing myself the more to the good governance of Osun and the welfare of the people. I will run an inclusive and participatory government. I will consult with the party, workers, communities, traditional rulers, the civil society and the people of the state in their heterogeneity. I will engage the youth, tap into their ideas and enable them to unleash their creative energy in a positive way. I pledge to serve God and humanity and the people of Osun with my whole being, without prejudice to religion, ethnicity, race and ideology. I will like to thank the Almighty God for His grace and divine enablement upon my life; and for fulfilling His promise to bless the land and people of Osun through me. I will like to thank our great party, APC, for the overwhelming support given to me all through the campaign and for believing in me. The leadership and members of our party nationally and locally laboured hard for my victory. Our National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, backed me to the hilt. I thank him. The national campaign committee headed by Governor Umar Ganduje and all the APC governors have my commendations and infinite gratitude. I will like to express my profound gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for his invaluable support and for leading a delegation of party and government officials to my campaign. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo did a yeoman’s job. He made several trips to Osun and supported the campaign with all available resources. My immense gratitude goes to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leader of leaders, for his selflessness and absolute commitment to my election campaign and for giving his all. I cannot thank enough Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who gave me an opportunity to serve and who carried me on his shoulders when the going was tough. I must thank also the coalition that emerged for the rerun, including Senator Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Osun Alliance of Collaborating Political Parties (ACPP) that wholeheartedly endorsed and supported my candidature. I thank my lovely wife, Kafayat, and the children for believing in me and supporting me unreservedly. My wife, in particular, gave me the peace of mind and refreshing comfort at home. I cannot end without thanking every member of my campaign team for their sacrifice, dedication and commitment. It is their victory as well. I thank all the people of Osun, especially those who believe in our cause and voted for me. It is your victory. I thank our royal fathers, workers, transporters, market women and men. The security agencies deserve commendation for keeping the peace and for their prompt response to every security challenge before, during and after the election. I salute members of the media too for their coverage. Once again, I congratulate and thank all member of APC in Osun for our hard-won victory. I thank you all for your attention. Ileri Oluwa ti se. Two people have died and two have been seriously injured after a private jet sped off runway in South Carolina airport and crashed into a fence. The private jet landed at 1.40pm on Thursday at the Greenville Downtown Airport, but instead of coming to a stop it ran off the runway and crashed into a fence, breaking the aircraft into two. The Greenville Police Department says there were four people on board, three men and one woman. Two were pilots and the two passengers were a married couple. Greenville City Fire spokesman Tristan Johnson confirmed that the two people who died in the crash were the pilot and the co-pilot of the plane, according to WSPA. The passengers are in the hospital in critical condition. The victims are yet to be named. Police spokesman Donnie Porter announced after the crash: For some reason, we're not sure why, [the plane] was not able to stop, went off the end of the runway, and crossed to the grass on the runway, that's about another 200 feet, then down an embankment and finally came to rest at the airport road. I believe that one of the pilots, not sure which, was either temporarily unconscious or what not but was leaning on the throttle. Police spokesman Porter said that this was the biggest accident the airport has seen in a long time. By Thursday evening the FAA was en route to take over the investigation. Following the killings of some students of the Ambrose Alli University, who were reportedly celebrating their graduation by unknown gunmen, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State reportedly described the institution as the den of cultists. According to Punch, the Police Commision was quoted to have said, “Ambrose Alli University, I must admit, is a den of cultists. The killing was as a result of a fight between rival cult groups. We are determined to get to the heart of the matter and check the rising wave of cultism at the school and other tertiary institutions in the state. We cannot tolerate the situation.” However, the University has reacted to the statement attributed to the CP describing it as an incautious remark over the gruesome killing of five students of the institution. The university also described the statement as false and insubstantial while the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo, according to Punch wondered why the police would link the attack to the university. The VC said, “that (CP’s remark) is an unguarded statement. What facts does he have on ground? For a very long time now, there have been no known cult activities in AAU. So, how did it become a den of cultists? Two people had a quarrel in town and, in the process, one of them shot some people in town, in a restaurant and during a party. How does that make it (university) a den of cultists? “Does that make sense? If an incident happened in Benin and a student was shot, would you say that the University of Benin is a den of cultists? The incident (killings) happened very far away from the campus and while it was happening, we had an international conference taking place in AAU. We never had any issue with anybody.” The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in AAU, Dr Monday Igbafen, also kicked against the remark saying it is an unguarded statement. Igbafen said, “this is still the unguarded statement some of us talk about. It is unguarded because we expect that if he (CP) knew that this place (AAU) is a den of cultists, what have they (police) been able to do? Do they want to wait until they kill all of us here? Theirs is to sit down in Benin and say it (AAU) is a den of cultists.” “We do not think that is a fair statement to come from somebody who is occupying an office in one of the security agencies in this country. Nobody is saying there are no cultists but he should go an weight the description, ‘den of cultists,’ very well.” However, the CP accused the VC of saying the truth. He added that there were statistics to prove the position of the police on the prevalence of cultism in the university. “I can produce the statistics of cultists arrested from his end, who were processed through the courts. We have the records. I hereby challenge him to an open debate. I will come up with the statistics of cultists and cultism in the university.” the CP said. https://www.clintgist.com/police-describe-ambrose-alli-university-as-den-of-cultists-id8897540-html/

The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, is currently facing a backlash on social media after he fumbled a question on why it is hard for doctors in Nigeria to get residency training to become specialists in the country. While answering questions from journalists in a video that has been circulating on social media, the minister was asked why Nigerian doctors have to wait for a long time to get residency training. In response, the minister casually said that all doctors cannot become specialists and can try their hands at other things like farming or politics. While still failing to answer to question, he said his tailor makes the best gowns despite being a doctor. He said, “It might sound selfish, but we can’t all be specialists. We can’t. Some will be farmers, some will be politicians. “The man who sews my gown is a doctor. He makes the best gown. And some will be specialists, some will be GPs, some will be farmers.” The migration of Nigerian doctors out of the country has been alarming in recent times with many expressing worry that there are not enough specialists in the country, making the minister’s comments insensitive to many. While speaking during the opening ceremony of the 38th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) on Friday, September 21, 2018, the minister said there is no serious shortage of doctors in Nigeria, as popularly believed. He said Nigeria has the ratio of one doctor to 4,088 patients, a ratio he says is not bad when compared to other African countries. “The data obtained from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria as of May 30, revealed that 88,692 doctors are registered in their books. Of these doctors, only 45,000 are currently practicing and that gives us a ratio one doctor to 4,088 persons. “Compared to many other African countries the ratio is not bad, for example, in South African it is one (doctor) to 4,000; in Egypt it is one to 1235; in Tanzania it is 1: 14,000; in Ethiopia, it is one to 1 to 118,000, in Kenya, it is one to 16,000 and in Cameroon it is one to 40,000,” he said. He noted that what is believed to be a shortage of doctors is actually the uneven distribution of practicing doctors within the country. He said there is a huge imbalance between the distribution of doctors to the urban and rural areas. “About 50 percent of the doctors in Nigeria can be found in Lagos and Abuja axis whereas many of the facilities in the North and rural areas have no doctors,” he said. He said the Federal Government is rightly concerned about the problems facing the health sector and has set up a special committee to work on all the issues. Of course every relationship should be built on trust but there is a limit to openness and there exist things that your partner does not really need to know about. So in essence, it’s OK to cut down on openness in a relationship from 100% to somewhere in the region of 90% or so. And here’s the reason: some people really just can’t handle the truth. It does not make them a bad person or bad partners. So instead of risking something beautiful over an inconsequential detail that’ll very likely not hurt anyone, just be mum and coast with the love of your life. Somethings are truly better left unsaid and below( via the link ) are 7 things your partner does not need to know about you.. Read and add yours in the comment box below.. https://www.clintgist.com/7-things-your-partner-does-not-need-to-known-about-you-id8168125-html/

Women are more almost twice as likely to forgive a cheating a partner than a man would. Of course, what this means first of all, is that despite what many think about the genders and cheating, men do not necessarily cheat more than women. https://www.clintgist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Women-forgive-cheating-mor-than-men.jpg There is no empirical stat to verify this claim, but if anything, an opinion poll run a while back asked if readers thought women cheated more than men and more readers voted to say yes. That aside and back to the issue of cheating and why women are more likely to forgive a cheating man than he would forgive them if the tables were turned. According to a 2017 survey of over 1,200 people by Illicit Encounters, a dating website for married people, 60% of women had previously forgiven a partner for cheating on them, while just 38% of men said they’d be up for forgiving a partner were they to cheat. The researchers think this is because women tend to be more likely to believe they have the ability to change their partner, while only 20% of men believe they’d be able to change a cheater. According to Metro UK, “basically, men reckon that the saying ‘once a cheat, always a cheat’ is true, while women are more likely to dismiss cheating as a one time thing that can be worked through together.” And the effect of this is that due to this forgiving nature of women, they are more likely to be cheated on because if a partner doesn’t see any consequences for an affair, they’re likely to do it again. A spokesperson for Illicit Encounters puts it simply by saying: “If your actions are less likely to have consequences, then you’ll have no problem acting upon your desires. “In other words, if you know you can have an affair and get away with it, what’s stopping you from cheating? “Unfortunately, this sends out the wrong kind of signal to men, and many take advantage of it.” read more https://www.clintgist.com/why-women-forgive-cheating-more-than-men-id8088758-html/ |
