A prominent gay rights attorney who led lawsuits legalizing same-sex marriage set himself on fire in Brooklyn on Saturday morning in a fatal plea for action on issues related to the environment.

The body of David S. Buckel, 60, was found near Prospect Park's baseball fields about 6:30 a.m. on Saturday after a passerby reported a severely burned individual, the New York Police Department said.
 
"I am David Buckel and I just killed myself by fire as a protest suicide," read a handwritten suicide note, according to the New York Daily News. "I apologize to you for the mess."
Another note found near his body, which was also emailed to local news outlets, said his self-immolation was a call to action, according to The New York Times.
 
"Pollution ravages our planet, oozing inhabitability via air, soil, water and weather," he wrote in an email, according to the Times. "Most humans on the planet now breathe air made unhealthy by fossil fuels, and many die early deaths as a result — my early death by fossil fuel reflects what we are doing to ourselves."
 

Buckel, who had recently turned his energies to environmental causes, is known for directing major same-sex marriage cases in Iowa and New Jersey in his role as marriage project director for Lambda Legal, a nonprofit organization that promotes civil rights for the LGBT community.

He also worked on a lawsuit on behalf of Brandon Teena, a transgender man who was raped and murdered in Falls City, Nebraska, in 1993. Teena's story was portrayed in the movie "Boys Don't Cry." For her portrayal of Teena, Hilary Swank won the Academy Award for best actress.
Camilla Taylor, Lambda Legal's acting legal director, said in a statement that Buckel was a "brilliant legal visionary" who was universally kind to all he worked with.
 
"This is a tremendous loss for our Lambda Legal family, but also for the entire movement for social justice," Taylor said. "David was an indefatigable attorney and advocate, and also a dedicated and loving friend to so many. He will be remembered for his kindness, devotion and vision for justice."

Millions of South Africans today are laying to rest Winnie Mandela, anti-apartheid icon and Nelson Mandela’s former wife, with full state honours at a stadium funeral in Soweto, South Africa.

Winnie Madikizela-Mandela died April 2nd, 2018 in a Johannesburg hospital after a long illness. She was 81 years old.

Tens of thousands of mourners bursted into loud cheers as the casket carrying Winnie Mandela’s remains was wheeled into the Orlando Stadium, less than two kilometres from her home.

Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, who also attended the funeral, said on Friday that Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was responsible for making the anti-apartheid movement “a global struggle”.

“She never stopped fighting. She never stopped serving,” he told reporters. “She never left the belly of the beast.”

Winnie Mandela’s casket draped with the multi-coloured South African flag was placed in the middle of the 37,500-seater stadium in front of a stage, decked in white and yellow flowers.

The emotionally charged official funeral began in Soweto, where she lived until her death on April 2, aged 81.

Winnie Madela will be buried as a national hero.

Cee-C is in the news yet again for another round of controversy and this time around it has to do with her confession yesterday that she caused the death of her best-friend while in school.


A female Nigerian lawyer has outed her on social media following her discussion with housemates, Khloe and Anto,in which she told the story of a guy she said was her best friend who had a relationship with a girl she didn’t approve of cause the girl was all over the guy and was asking him to do stuffs against Cee-C – Cee-C said because of this, she prayed their relationship would spoil and it did, it’s only that the guy had to lose his life for them to part ways.

According to Cee-C, the guy was the only child of his parents and so after his death, his father couldn’t bear the trauma and so he lost his life too.

A Nigerian lawyer who claims to be the sister of the lady that was dating Cee-C’s best friend, has now come out to counter her sayings and claim that Cee-C’s story is a false version.

She wrote:

Spying on your spouse’s phone is now a criminal offence in Saudi Arabia, potentially punishable by a year in jail and a hefty fine of 500,000 riyals (£94,910.04, N47m). This was announced on Monday by Saudi Arabia’s information ministry.

‘Married individuals planning to spy on their spouse in Saudi Arabia will need to think twice, because such an activity could potentially attract a fine of 500,000 riyals (£94,910.04), along with a prison term for a year.

The provision, part of a new anti-cyber crime law which came into force last week, is meant to ‘protect morals of individuals and society and protect privacy’.

The move comes amid a ‘steady increase in cybercrimes such as blackmail, embezzlement and defamation’ the ministry announced.

Saudi Arabia has launched a string of highly-publicised policy changes, since the rise of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to power last year. Daily Mail gathered that the ultra-conservative kingdom, is among the world’s top per capita users of cellphone apps and social media. More than half of Saudi Arabia’s citizens are under 25, many of whom spend much of their time on mobile platforms, away from official strictures and traditions.

The country will allow women to drive as of June and has lifted a decades-long ban on cinemas. Saudi Arabia’s legislation on cybercrime, has drawn harsh criticism from international rights groups in the past.

Dozens of Saudi citizens have been convicted on charges linked to dissent under a previous sweeping law, particularly linked to posts on Twitter. Last September, authorities issued a public call for citizens to report on the social media activities of their fellow citizens, under a broad definition of ‘terrorist’ crimes.

Saudi Arabia has also moved to bring changes to its visa regulations, in a bid to double the number of tourists over the next decade and make the kingdom tourism-friendly.

A 12-year-old boy and his 38-year-old mother have been attacked attacked by their landlady, Mrs. Atalekor, with a razor blade at their Ufuoma community residence, Ughelli, Delta State over the droppings of a chicken to be used for the Easter celebration.
The allegation by the victims, Mrs. Onobrakpeya and her son, Emuobonuvie Onobrakpeya, is coming just as the landlady’s husband, Mr. Prosper Atalekor, told Vanguard that it was his 10-year-old son that slashed the face and neck of the victims in defense of his mother, who was being beaten by the Onobrakpeyas. .

It was gathered that trouble between both families started when a chicken, bought by Efe Onobrakpeya, husband to the woman, soiled the veranda of the Atalekors, leading to a verbal confrontation which was followed by a free-for-all by the women. .

Efe, who confirmed the attack on his wife and son while speaking to journalists in Ughelli, lamented that the landlady had yet to be arrested after inflicting life-threatening injuries on members of his family. .

He said, “I reported the matter to the ‘B’ Division, Ughelli, and the Divisional Police Officer gave me two policemen to arrest the woman, who went into hiding after the incident. The policemen insisted I give them money before they do anything.” ..

However, the suspect’s husband said: “The incident has been a recurring issue as the woman feels she is bigger in size than my wife and always pounced on her whenever they clash.

When this recent incident happened, she and her son attacked my wife and children, with the woman beating my wife and pulling her hair, her son was also hitting my wife with a plank. .

It was my 10-year-old son in trying to defend his mother that picked a razor blade and used it to cut the woman and the boy. My wife, too, was taken to the hospital as she sustained injuries.“

Reno Omokri, a spokesperson for former President Goodluck Jonathan, has released his own list of alleged looters in Buhari’s cabinet after the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, released two lists of alleged looters in the Goodluck Jonathan led administration.

Mr. Lai Mohammed had on Sunday circulated a statement containing a list of individuals undergoing trials for alleged corruption, also on March 30 he released a first list of members of the past administration he said looted the Nigerian treasury while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power.

A few days ago, the fallacious minister of information, the rightly named Lai Mohammed, whose first name rhymes with his life’s calling, released a so called ‘looters list’ with six names of alleged looters.
After he was ridiculed by civil society, the opposition and the international community, Mr. Lai Mohammed hurriedly put out a statement tagging his list a ‘teaser’.
When that lie refused to fly, the notorious fibber, Lai Mohammed, released yet another list yesterday, April 1, 2018.

Coincidentally, April 1 is April Fools day and it was befitting that Lai released his list on that day because only a fool will believe the list he put together.
His list did not contain even one member of the All Progressive Congress. If the list proves anything, it is that President Buhari, Lai Mohammed and their All Progressive Congress are not fighting corruption. Instead they are fighting corruption.

I have taken the pains to produce a ‘teaser’ looters list of APC members who are collectively alleged to have looted over $2 billion (when you convert the dollar value of what they allegedly looted at the time they allegedly looted it).

I challenge President Buhari and Lai Mohammed to explain why these men did not feature on their list and why they continue to remain in this APC government where they wield immense powers and influence, even over the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that is meant to prosecute them.

I further challenge President Buhari and Lai Mohammed to explain to Nigerians why they failed to reveal to Nigerians that President Buhari himself is a MAJOR beneficiary of the funds that the former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, received from the treasury for the security of Nigerians.

I assure Nigerians that Sambo Dasuki is not in jail for a crime he committed in 2015. He is rather being persecuted for a ‘crime’ he committed in 1985.

Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja. However, two days after President Buhari was sworn in, the new APC government WITHDREW the charges preferred against Sylva on June 1, 2015 and on October 3, 2018, the EFCC returned to Sylva, 48 houses seized from him during the administration of former president, Goodluck Jonathan in 2013 to him.

Murtala Nyako: Alleged to have looted ₦29 billion. Currently facing trial before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja

Senator Danjuma Goje: Alleged to have looted ₦25 billion. Currently facing trial before the Federal High Court, sitting in Jos, Plateau State.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu: Alleged to have looted ₦15 billion with the help of 18 co accused. Charged on March 3, 2010. The case continues to linger in court.

Orji Kalu: Alleged to have looted ₦3.2 billion. Currently facing trial before Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
Kayode Fayemi: Indicted by the Ekiti Judicial Commission of Inquiry headed by former Ekiti State chief judge and the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Ademola Ajakaiye, of sundry financial malfeasance totaling over ₦2 billion.

Senator Joshua Dariye: Alleged to have looted ₦1.2 billion. Currently facing trial before Justice Adebukola Banjoko at an FCT High Court.
Babachir Lawal: former Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Allegedly gave a ₦200 million contract to his own company from monies meant to look after Internally Displaced Persons. Has been sacked after protest by the opposition and civil society. Has still not been charged. Was allowed to be replaced by his own cousin.

By the omission of these names, the Buhari led Federal Government has vindicated Transparency International.
According to Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, Nigeria is more corrupt today under Buhari than at any other time since Transparency International started keeping records!

We have moved 12 places backward from 136 to 148. Yet this administration has the guts to accuse a government under whom Nigeria made her best ever progress on the Corruption Perception Index of corruption? We moved from 144 to 136 in 2014 under President Jonathan because that government fought corruption in court and not through the media.

As Christians around the world celebrate Easter, Pope Francis, Donald Trump, and other world leaders join them by delivering heartfelt messages.

On April 1, 2018, the leader of the Roman Catholic church called for peace in his “Urbi et Orbi” Easter message, according to The Washington Post.

Speaking to about 80,000 faithfuls gathered at St. Peter’s Basilica, the Pontiff called for the world to be free from war and conflict.

“Beginning with the beloved and long-suffering land of Syria,” the Pope said that the resurrection of Jesus offers hope in a world “marked by so many acts of injustice and violence,” including parts of Africa affected by “hunger, endemic conflicts, and terrorism.”

“It bears fruits of hope and dignity where there are deprivation and exclusion, hunger and unemployment; where there are migrants and refugees, so often rejected by today’s culture of waste, and victims of the drug trade, human trafficking and contemporary forms of slavery,” the pope said.

Pope Francis prayed for a “swift end” to war in Syria, and reconciliation in Israel, a place “experiencing in these days the wounds of ongoing conflict that do not spare the defenseless.”

For Asia, he pleaded with “those who are directly responsible act with wisdom and discernment to promote the good of the Korean people.”

Referring to the problems in Venezuela, he hoped for the leaders to “find a just, peaceful and humane way to surmount quickly the political and humanitarian crises that grip it.”

“May there be no lack of solidarity with all those forced to leave their native lands and lacking the bare essentials for living,” said Francis about South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Donald Trump’s Easter message

The President of the United States of America delivered his season greetings on Friday morning.

On March 30, 2018, he honored the Jewish tradition of Passover and the Christian celebration of Easter.

“My fellow Americans, at this holy time of the year, families across our nation gather in homes, churches, and synagogues to light candles and to praise God,” he said.



To the Jews, Trump said the holiday is celebrated by families around the world who “give thanks to God for liberating the Jewish people from bondage in Egypt and delivering them to the promised land of Israel.”

Shifting to Easter, “For Christians, we remember the suffering and death of God’s only son and his glorious resurrection on the third day,” Trump said. “On Easter Sunday, we proclaim with joy ‘Christ is risen.’”

The two holidays serve to “remind us that God’s love redeems the world,” he noted.

“In America, we look to the light of God to guide our steps. We trust in the power of the Almighty for wisdom and strength and we praise our Heavenly Father for the blessings of freedom and the gift of eternal life.

“Happy Passover, Happy Easter. Thank you, God bless you and God bless America,” Trump concluded.



Muhammadu Buhari’s Easter message

On Thursday, March 29, 2018, the president of Nigeria also called for peace in the nation.

He called on all Nigerians “to love our neighbors and display increased spirit of tolerance and accommodation.”

“While we enjoin law-abiding fellow compatriots to work for peace and social justice in our beloved country, let there be no doubt of our resolve to firmly resist others who may want to make cheap political capital out of current national security challenges,” he said.



President Buhari also talked about his administration saying, “More than ever before, we are ready to consolidate on these gains and ensure that we improve the lot of our communities in the years ahead.

“Thankfully, our Dapchi schoolgirls who were safely released recently after 30 agonizing days in the hands of their abductors, have been reunited with their families.”

A Twitter handle suspected to be for the Enugu Police Command has said citizens don't expect to be served chicken and chips while in prison or cell.

An alleged tweet by the Enugu State police command has stirred a serious conversation about the living state of prisoners or law offenders in the command's custody.
A Twitter user had inquired what the state command is doing about the cells claiming prisoners or law offenders barely get a breath of fresh air before getting bail or charged to court.

Kelsonwa, the Twitter user had written, "@policeng_enugu what are you doing about you cells, were by a person been detained can't even breathe fresh air before he or she gets bail."

The response by the supposed Twitter handle of the police state command was "Sir, you don't go to cell expecting to be served chicken and chips."

Big brother Naija 2018 housemate, BamBam has been evicted from the Big Brother Naija 2018 reality TV show season 3 tagged “Double Wahala”.

Just immediately after the party, Ebuka invited all housemates to the living room, instructing them to sit down that he had a visitor waiting to see them but in a shocking and surprising move, he asked all housemates that were on probation to stand and announced that Bambam has been evicted from the show.

This is the fifth eviciton for the season. The first saw the exit of Pritto (Bitto and Princess) and Van-Dee (Vandora and Dee-One), the second saw the exit of Angel and Ahneeka, while the third saw the exit of Leo and Ifu.

Anto was evicted during the fourth Live Eviction show, but was later voted back into the game by the viewers

The other housemates that were up for eviction alongside Bambam are: Teddy A, Nina and Cee-c.

It is unclear if another housemate would be evicted on Sunday during the live show.

Meanwhile, Bam-bam’s love interest in the house, Teddy A as at the time of writing this is in tears whilst other housemates believe biggie is playing "an april fool" on them

There are a lot of cool little features that Samsung didn't mention when it announced the Galaxy S9.

Android phones can be customized way more than iPhones, and Samsung adds its own little touches that take customization to another level.

The thing is, Samsung rarely mentions these cool little features when it announces its new phones, and they can go unnoticed for your entire ownership of a Samsung phone.

Many of the features mentioned here aren't exclusive to Samsung's new phone, the Galaxy S9. You'll find most of them in previous models, too, but I added them to the list just in case you missed them.

Check out 11 cool tips and tricks for your Galaxy S9:

1. Make the screen even sharper.

Out of the box, the Galaxy S9's screen is set to 1080p. That's somewhat odd considering the display's native resolution is a sharper 1440p.

You can set the phone to make full use of its sharp display by heading to Settings > Display > Screen resolution, then set it from FHD+ to WQHD+.

Setting the display to a higher resolution means you'll take a small hit on battery life, but it's not a dramatic difference by any means. The sharpness difference isn't massive, but it's there, and you get the full effect of Samsung's smartphone displays that are the best in the business.

2. Make the screen less harsh-looking at night time.

Many phones have this feature now. Apple calls it Night Shift, Samsung calls it Blue Light Filter. It basically reduces the intensity of bright blue colors that can appear overly bright and keep your brain awake when you're trying to wind down around night time.

Head to Settings > Display > Blue light filter > Turn on as scheduled. You can set it for the default sunset to sunrise, or set the feature to run during your own custom times.

3. Squeeze more apps onto your home screen.

By default, the Galaxy S9's home screen positions its apps pretty far apart from each other, and it doesn't give you much control of where you want the app icons to go.

Head to Settings > Display > Home screen > Home screen grid. There, you can set it to show more apps that you can position closer together.

4. Make sure apps fill the Galaxy S9's entire display.

Not every app is optimized to use the Galaxy S9's taller 18:9 display. Many apps are still optimized for the regular 16:9 aspect ratio that most smartphones used before 2016, and some apps are slightly cut off at the bottom as a result.

That doesn't stop Samsung from making sure you get the full screen experience. Head to Settings > Display > Full screen apps. There, you'll see a long list of apps that are already optimized for taller 18:9 aspect ratios. Scroll further down and you'll find the apps that aren't optimized. Some might already be enabled if you enabled ful- screen mode when you first open the apps, others might not if you missed that option.

Alternatively, you can just make sure to tap the bottom of the screen when the phone asks you if you want the app to fill the entire screen the next time you open it.

5. Pull down the notification panel from anywhere on the screen.

To pull down the notifications panel, you have to reach all the way to the top of the Galaxy S9's display, which can be a reach for Galaxy S9 Plus users and its tall, large display.

You can swipe down from anywhere on the Galaxy S9's display to pull down the notifications panel, even at the very bottom of the display, by heading to Settings > Display > Home screen > Quick-open notification panel, then turn on the setting.

6. Change the vibration pattern for notifications, including phone calls.

The basic default vibration pattern when you receive a notification is a long vibration. You can change it to something more noticeable, and some of the patterns actually create different vibration noises.

Head to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Vibration pattern. You can preview the vibration patterns before setting it for your notifications and phone calls.

7. Reduce the vibration intensity.

The vibrations when you get a notification on Samsung phones are particularly intense. It's incredibly loud when you rest a Galaxy S or Note phone on a hard surface if you don't use a case. Even with a case, the vibrations aren't exactly subtle.

Thankfully, you can change that by heading to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Vibration intensity. There, you can reduce the vibration intensity for phone calls, notifications, on-screen taps, and hard-press taps.

8. Check out some effects that could make music sound better for you.

The Galaxy S9 has a bunch of effects and settings that you might like for music, like Dolby Atmos that makes the music sound like it's being played in the room you're in.

There's also the Tube Amp Pro option that gives bass a fuller richer sound, like you would get with a classic tube amp.

Samsung also includes its UHQ upscaler feature, which can give music quality boost. It only works with wired headphones.

Head to Settings > Sounds and vibrations > Sound quality and effects.


9. Keep the phone screen on while you're looking at it without occasionally tapping the screen.

This one's been around for a while on Samsung smartphones. It's called Smart Stay, and it makes the front-facing camera check if you're looking at the screen. If you are, it'll keep the phone's display on so you don't have to keep tapping the display occasionally.

It's an especially good feature if you're reading a long article or simply don't want the phone to go to sleep when you're looking at something longer than the screen's default 30-second time-out period.

Head to Settings > Advanced features > Smart stay, and turn the feature on.

10. Customize the look of the Google search bar on the home screen to make it look better with your background.

The Google search bar on the Galaxy S9's home screen is white by default, but you can change it any color you want, and you can even change its shape to look more square, or make it more transparent.

On the Google search bar, tap the three dots on the very right > Customize > have at it.

11. Turn on a screen saver when your phone is charging.

The Galaxy S9's screen while charging is black by default, but you can add a screen saver to add a little personalized zest to your phone while its charging.

Go to Settings > Display > Screen saver > pick a screensaver you like. You can preview what screen savers will look like.

The air smelt of nothing far from tension. Sergeant Tim had put his men under pressure for four sleepless nights.

Easter Tuesday

Everyone’s work was at stake: the Inspector-General, the Commissioner of Police, Tim’s, and that of his men. In fact, their tenure in office depended so much on him finding the killer and bringing him to book –the dead was long gone.

The police men had earlier combed the area before they surrounded a particular house. Tim had earlier put the house on a twelve hour surveillance, because all evidence led them back to the bungalow, which sat at the back of a mansion on Boulevard Street. The suspect didn’t make a move since the surveillance. They gathered that she bought the house for him, solely for her personal service. From their investigation, he gathered that it was the trendy thing among women of her status on the Island, because they could not afford to be seen, sneaking about in hotel rooms with their side chicks, like their husbands.

Sergeant Tim gave the order with the wave of his four fingers in mid-air, and some men who were dressed just like him drew close to the house, while those that stayed behind acted as a backup. The case tied all their fate and carrier to the senator’s waistband.

When they got to the door,he could feel the weight of fatigue on his men, and heard their heart pray eagerly for a break in a case that, kept them on their toes for more than seventy-two hours and away from their families for Easter. He knew that some of them only travelled home once in a year or once every festivity period. They could not afford to live close to their family, due to the incessant transfer, or afford to travel home all the time, because the pay was too poor, and they could not afford it. It was better to send the money home for upkeep.


At the count of three, Sergeant Tim gave a heavy kick on the door, it flew open, tear gas followed, and with their face masks on, they took their position, and rushed into the house, one after the other. Each man was busy, looking for the suspect in one room or the other. Sergent heard Clement’s voice:

“Sir, I think you need to see this.”

He turned from where he stood, and with some effort, he walked to the voice. To his greatest surprise, their nightmare dangled from a rope, and not too far from him, he noticed the bloodied boots that left foot prints, all over the house.

Thursday Night

Sergeant Tim busily puffed out some smoke after the call with his wife; he was always thrown into deep thought, each time he called her. The demand from his work no doubt had put a tear to their fifteen years; both lived a separate life, and each knew what the other did, but cared less. He could not remember spending a full year whenever he was transferred to any place.

Clara came from nowhere and placed her two hands on his shoulders, he knew she heard their conversation, all the time. Clara was a smart one, she knew her place in his life, and didn’t try to be too demanding like the others. He tried to get up, and join her in bed, but another call came through.

“Sir!”

The commissioner’s base voiced blasted at him through the phone.

“We have a serious case on our hands. You must report to the address I sent to your phone, first thing in the morning.”


“Yes, sir!”

The line went dead, and Clara went back into the darkness, just like she came.



The Early Mornings

A gloved hand pried the heavy door open. He was still confused on why the commissioner picked him for the case even as he stepped on broken glass. The glass had been separated from a small wedding frame. He picked the frame off the floor and looked closely at it; a man and a woman smiled to the camera. Tim brought the portrait closer, and noticed that it had been tampered with; a rough line was used to scratch the woman’s upper torso. He looked up, and one of his men brought a transparent evidence bag.

Tim surveyed the rooms in the mansion, one after the other; the luxury furniture was turned upside down. It was too obvious that the suspect made away with some goodies. He got to the room where she lay, and thought of how devastated the senator must have felt, when he was informed of his wife’s death.

The drawers in the room had all been forced open. The air conditioner still chilled the room, and the television was turned on. He wondered what must have led to her cruel death. The woman was obviously in her late fifties, but she had the body of a thirty year old.

From all indications, she was pretty. Her night gown was socked in her blood due to the knife wounds. Her death must have been very painful. Tim wondered where her husband must have been, and what he did at the time of his wife’s death. It was the domestic assistant that discovered the body, when she came up to call her madam to dinner. Her Madam never had visitors, but how come death paid her a surprise visit?

The Discovery

Sergeant Tim didn’t know if it was necessary to feel pity for the dead or annoyed. The senator’s wife didn’t deserve to die like a rat? She was too busy with her sugar toy while her husband went about his duties; although he was known to be a popular one with the ladies.


She offered her boyfriend so much, but it seemed that he wanted more. He closed her file, drew out his gun, and left to make an arrest.

On Sunday, a Chinese space station called Tiangong-1 is expected to crash to Earth.

The 9.4-ton spacecraft went up into space in 2011, but in 2016, the Chinese government lost communication with it due to an apparent technical malfunction.

It’s difficult to predict exactly when Tiangong-1 will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere, and where it will break up into pieces before it lands. On Monday, the space station was at an altitude of about 130 miles. It has been falling more than a mile every day since then, and its rate of descent is also accelerating.

The exact location of the impending Tiangong-1 crash is still a mystery, but it will likely hit somewhere 42.7 degrees north or south of the equator. The chances of Tiangong-1’s re-entry are slightly higher in New Zealand, Tasmania, the northern states of the US, northern China, the Middle East, central Italy, northern Spain, and parts of South America and southern Africa

If you’d like to track Tiangong-1 as it falls, there are several sites you can check:

•The European Space Agency’s Space Debris Office is tracking Tiangong-1’s altitude and continuously updating its prediction for the station’s re-entry time.

•A nonprofit based in California, the Aerospace Corporation, created a page with information on Tiangong-1’s status and when it will likely re-enter Earth’s atmosphere.

•On March 18, China’s space agency, China Manned Space, began publishing daily updates on the space station’s current location and orbit, according to the GB Times.

•SatView provides a map of where Tiangong-1 is at any given moment and the craft’s predicted path.

*Astrophysicists like Dr Marco Langbroek and Quan-Zhi Ye are tweeting updates using the hashtag #Tiangong1, too.

As of Friday at 3 p.m., Tiangong-1 is at an altitude of about 110 miles, with approximately 44 hours to go until it re-enters Earth’s atmosphere on April 1 at 15:15 UTC (give or take 14 hours), according to the Aerospace Corporation.

China’s first space station, called Tiangong-1 or “Heavenly Palace,” will soon break up over Earth into a fiery rain of space junk.

The Aerospace Corp., a nonprofit spaceflight research company, has released its newest prediction about the derelict spacecraft’s doom: Tiangong-1 may reenter Earth’s atmosphere on April 1 at 3:15 a.m. EDT, give or take 20 hours. This means the dead spacecraft should come crashing down in about 100 hours, though possibly as soon as Saturday morning or late Sunday night.

When it does, extreme heat and pressure caused by plowing through the air at more than 15,000 mph will destroy the roughly 9.4-ton vessel.

Not everything may vanish, though.

There’s a good chance that gear and hardware left on board could survive intact all the way to the ground, according to Bill Ailor, an aerospace engineer who specializes in atmospheric reentry. That durability is thanks to Tiangong-1’s onion-like layers of protective material.

“The thing about a space station is that it’s typically got things on the inside,” Ailor, who works for The Aerospace Corp., previously told Business Insider. “So basically, the heating will just strip these various layers off.

“If you’ve got enough layers, a lot of the energy is gone before a particular object falls out, it doesn’t get hot, and it lands on the ground.”

For example, he said, after NASA’s Columbia space shuttle broke up over the US in 2003, investigators recovered a working flight computer. (The artifact that ultimately helped explain how the deadly incident happened.)

Predicting Tiangong-1’s crash to Earth

Launched in September 2011, Tiangong-1 is a two-room space station for two taikonauts, or Chinese astronauts.

It’s 34 feet long and has a volume of 15 cubic meters, or about 1/60th of the volume of the International Space Station, which is about as long as a football field.

Though China superseded Tiangong-1 in 2016 with Tiangong-2, space experts hailed the first space station as a major achievement for the nation, since it helped pioneer a permanent Chinese presence in orbit.

“It conducted six successive rendezvous and dockings with spacecraft Shenzhou-8, Shenzhou-9, and Shenzhou-10 and completed all assigned missions, making important contributions to China’s manned space exploration activities,” said a memo that China submitted in May 2017 to the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

In the memo, China said it lost contact with the spacecraft on March 16, 2016, after it “fully fulfilled its historic mission.”

By May 2017, Tiangong-1 was coasting about 218 miles above Earth and dropping by about 525 feet a day, the memo said. Its altitude has since plummeted to an altitude of about 115 miles, according to the Aerospace Corporation’s latest data.

For any vehicle like this, the thing that brings them down is atmospheric drag,” Ailor said. “Why there’s a lot of uncertainty in the predictions is that it depends on what the sun’s doing, to a large measure.”

The sun can unleash solar storms and solar flares — bursts of X-rays and ultraviolet light — that heat Earth’s outer atmosphere, causing the air to expand and rise. That forces low-flying objects like Tiangong-1 to plow through denser gases.

“This puts just a little bit of a higher force on these objects that causes them to come down,” Ailor said.

An analysis of the combined effects of solar activity and Tiangong-1’s orbital speed, direction, and altitude, as well as other factors, helps the Aerospace Corporation provide its latest by-the-minute deorbit estimates.

Where China’s space station might crash

Tiangong-1 is likely to crash over the ocean, as water covers about 71% of Earth’s surface. But there’s a decent chance some pieces may strike land as it breaks up over a long and thin oval footprint.

“The whole footprint length for something like this could be 1,000 miles or so,” Ailor said, with heavier pieces at the front and lighter debris toward the back.

If anyone is lucky enough to witness Tiangong-1’s atmospheric breakup from an airplane, it may look similar to the destruction of the European Space Agency’s 14-ton Automated Transfer Vehicle.

The ATV was an expendable spacecraft that used to resupply the ISS. Once astronauts and cosmonauts unloaded its supplies, it was filled with garbage and sent careening back to Earth.

When asked for comment on Tiangong-1’s threat to ongoing NASA missions, the space agency told Business Insider it “actually doesn’t track any debris.”

But Ailor said pieces of China’s space station are “really unlikely” to hit anyone or anything on Earth.

According to The Aerospace Corp.’s website, the probability “is about 1 million times smaller than the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot.”

“It’s not impossible, but since the beginning of the space age … a woman who was brushed on the shoulder in Oklahoma is the only one we’re aware of who’s been touched by a piece of space debris,” he said.

Should a hunk of titanium, a computer, or another piece smash through a roof or windshield, however, international space law covers compensation for victims.

“It’s China’s responsibility if someone gets hurt or property gets damaged by this,” NASA’s representative said.

A Nigerian lady identified as Joy Joseph on Facebook, has taken to the social media platform to appreciate God and also narrate on how her sister survived a highly fatal accident just moments after arriving in Nigeria.

According to the lady, the sister came into the country to celebrate the Easter season with her family and on her way to Benin, Edo State, they had a serious accident.

Joy explained that her sister was the only survivor in the fatal accident as the driver and another occupant lost their lives.

The obviously excited lady mentioned that the last time she mourned was in 2009 when the family lost their father, and she is so grateful to God she is not mourning anyone this time around.

Sharing the photos from the accident, Joseph wrote;

So my elder sister survived(only survivor, the driver and the remaining two died, which is painful but it doesn’t stop me from praising God) this and you wanna tell me there’s no God up there….

Tell me what He can’t do, lemme show you what He has done…

She just came back to the country to spend the Easter with us and they wanted to change the narrative. She had the accident on her way to Benin.
I can’t even describe how grateful I am right now. When my sister told me about it, I thought it was a minor accident until my other sister sent me photos.

God is really above watching over my family. The last time I mourned was in 2009 when my dad died and I’m not ready to hear sorry again.

A young man who robbed his own landlord, killed and buried the man inside a shallow grave, in Kontagora area of Niger State, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command.

Confessing to the crime, the suspect told newsmen that he was contracted to kill his landlord by a business associate (currently on the run), who offered to pay him N2 million. After killing his landlord, Maaruf reportedly buried his landlord in a shallow grave and also stole N1.7 million from the deceased including an unregistered Honda car.

The suspect who fled to Sokoto after committing the crime, but was arrested by detectives from his hideout, said;

“I used local medicine to kill the man and buried him inside the house, which I rented from him. I was hired to kill him by one of his business associates. I regret the action.”

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammad Abubakar, who confirmed the report said Maaruf killed and buried one Tasiu Shittu, in a shallow grave inside a rented apartment in Kontagora.

He explained that the apartment was rented out to the suspect by the deceased, adding that the suspect has led detectives to the shallow grave and that the body has been exhumed for autopsy.

Recall that few months ago, it was reported that 40-year-old Ime reportedly attacked his landlord, Mr. Edem Akpan and his wife, Affiong, with matchete before setting the house on fire.

One of the daughters to the late couple, Ms. Emem Akpan, disclosed that trouble started when her father gave Ime a quit notice. She said Ime had threatened that if her father insisted on sending him (Ime) out, he would kill him and burn down the house.

She said, “Two days ago, we saw him bringing worn out tyres into the compound. We didn’t know he had a plan. Yesterday (Sunday), before we left for church in the evening, he brought 20 litres of fuel, more than what his generator could contain. “A neighbour asked him what he wanted to do with such quantity of fuel, but he told him that he was going to run the generator overnight. This is what we saw this morning as we returned from church – the fuel and worn out tyres were weapons used by the assailant to kill my parents.”
