While many people are of the opinion that the year is finally grinding to an end, movies goer would probably disagree; with some of this year’s best offerings still yet to be released. While this year has already seen the release of some of the biggest flicks out of Hollywood (Mission Impossible: Fallout, Avengers; Infinity Wars, Black Panther… I’m looking at you all), however, a quick look at some of the upcoming movies in his last quarter of the year shows that we might be in for a treat. Eventnews takes a look at 8 of the biggest upcoming movies of the year.

AQUAMAN (December 21)

While some of the biggest movies of this year were out of the stables of Marvel Cinematic Universe, in Aquaman, DC comics have a movie that might challenge MCU’s best offerings for the movie of year. Set in the fictional aqua city of Atlantis, the story revolves around Aquaman by Jason Mamoa (Khal Drogo of the Game of Thrones fame) as he tries to save his city from destruction. Movies-goer will remember that we have had a taste of the Aquaman in DC’s Wonder woman and if his acting there is anything to by then we are in for a treat.

Halloween (October 19)

One general observable feature of many movies released in 2018 is the sheer fact that many are either spin-offs of other movies or sequels of movies released way much earlier. It is in the second category that Halloween firmly belongs. The movie is a direct sequel of the movie released in 1978. The movie features the fictional Halloween character, Michael Meyer back at his best at murdering unsuspecting teenagers.

Widows (November 16)

Widows is one of those movies that weigh in on the age-long saying that “whatever a man can do, a woman can do better. When their Con-men husbands are killed in a botched robbery, four women led by Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder) must join forces to avenge their death. Directed by Oscar- award winning Director, Steve McQueen, Widows has all the feature to be a classic.

Mary, Queen of Scots (December 7)

I’m naturally bias towards movies that are inspired by history, it gets worse when the period of history being delineated is renaissance Britain. Mary Queen of Scots follows the rivalry of two great British families as they eye the English throne. The movie revolves around the title character, Mary’s attempt at overthrowing her cousin, Elizabeth I. The movie pits Saoirse Ronan ( Mary) against Margot Robbie (Elizabeth I).  Lovers of historical plays should keep an eye on this one.

Boy Erased (November 2)

Movies that focus on the experiences of members of the LGBTQ communities are often unpopular here due to our stance on homosexuality. However, Boy Erased is an excellent adaptation of Garrard Conley's acclaimed memoir. The movie features Lucas Hedges as the son of a Baptist preacher who, after being outed to his parents, is pressured into gay conversion therapy.

First Man

I can’t be the only one who associates space exploration with only Neil Armstrong. First Man is an absorbing biopic about the time and life of Neil Armstrong as he races towards accomplishing his desire to become the first man to land on the moon. Neil Armstrong will be played by multiple awards winning actor and most women man crush every day, Ryan Gosling… Brethren, please tell me what’s not to like?

The Girl in the Spider’s room (November 9)
We all remember the nerdy movie, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, an adaptation of the novel with the same name, well, The Girl in the Spider’s Room is a sequel of sort to it. Lisbeth Salander, the iconic character is played this time by Claire Foy. The movie is scheduled to hit the Cinemas by November 9.

Bad Times at the El Royale (October 12)


Did you think I wasn’t going to add it? No way I’m going to commit the cardinal sin of the year by not including arguably the most star-studded movie of the year. Bad Times at the El Royale has an impressive assemblage of characters that include, Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth, Jon Hamm, Cynthia Erivo, Russell Crowe, and Dakota Johnson. The movie set in a rundown lake hotel where the path of seven characters seeking redemption meet.

With the growing awareness by females on the need for gender equality, there seems to be a greater support of that course. So many females feel that gone are the days the future of a woman ends in the kitchen.
In this regard, her royal Majesty Queen Abigail Joshua has lamented inferiority complex as one issue that should be conquered by females towards getting relevant in the societal scheme of things.

In her words “The problem I have with fellow females is that they always feel inferior in handling tasks especially in politics and others spheres of endeavour. I have seen the best directors from banks as females, best administrators in ministries as females and more.The moment young girls can conquer that complex and feeling that because they are females, they are inferior to men, the better for us”.

She also admonished parents to pay more attention to their children towards helping them to be better, saying a lot of people in exalted positions actually work with their talents and skills than their courses of study.

“I have heard people say they did read some courses in school just because their parents wanted them to. When they graduate and take all the pictures at convocation, they pursue something else. That is when you see a graduate of law learning fashion after spending so many years doing law and reading voluminous books”.

The Akwa-Ibom State born model who is the current queen, Face of Eventnews Africa 2017 is passionate about making an impact in modelling through creation of more impactful projects.

Many are of the view that several options exist in the social circles that can be filled by women but not until they begin to regain their pride of place and believe in themselves. This is one major objective of her royal Majesty Queen Abigail Joshua in years to come.

​International Media Personality, Wofai Samuel, a Graduate of Zoology and Environmental Biology, Class of 2010, University of Calabar, finally participated in the Orientation Course by the National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, after stalling the process for more than 7 years.

While in Camp, Oando Gas organised a debate, on the topic : "Environmental Degradation, Especially Flooding in Nigeria , Can Cooking with Gas Help?". She was selected among 10 other contestants, each representing their respective platoons. Wofai Samuel (Platoon 10), emerged Second (2nd) In the debate organised by Oando Gas.
In Her summation , " I have avoided this phase of life for too long and will be doing myself and Nigeria a disservice if I don't take part in this activity. No other time could be more appropriate than now". Above all, I believe we should do the best we can to create a positive impact where ever we find ourselves. She dedicated her success at the debate and Nysc year to her beloved brother, Blessing Samuel, who until his demise was an Academic staff of the university of calabar.
He motivated her to take up nysc but died few days after her orientation camp she said.

The cause of Bassey son’s death is yet to be clerified.

This maiden edition of the pageant is calculated at fostering entrepreneurship development and contributing our quota to the economic development of this great nation Nigeria.

As part of the partnership between The 2Face Foundation and United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) on Projects in Africa with Focus on IDP Intervention, both organisations have put together a special IDP Fund Raising Event tagged: EARGASM. Eargasm is scheduled to take place on July 22, 2017, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Eargasm is an evening of classic renditions and pleasant surprises with live showcase of classic tunes by top class vocalists in a premium and intimate setting. The headliners for the event are 2Baba, Waje, Styl Plus and a special appearance by music legend Bongos Ikwue.




This event is the third in a series of well-received concerts, it is a special edition designed to raise funds for The 2face Foundation/UNHCR IDP support initiative. The partnership was formalised on January 30, 2017, to deliver fundraising drives through music/merchandise sale and charity events targeted at corporate and individual donors towards on-going UNHCR’s I.D.P support projects across Nigeria. Eargasm is a Buckwyld Media production, which is packaged in association with Yankee Entertainment. The initiative to drive awareness and raise funds for IDPs is a Boomerang Africa idea for 2Face Foundation.

 
The 2face Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation founded by pop legend Innocent “2face” Idibia aka 2Baba. The initiative was borne out of 2Baba’s desire to deploy his voice and star power in service to humanity. The 2face Foundation seeks to promote peace in Nigeria and Africa through working with like-minded individuals and organisation with a common goal of peaceful and productive coexistence of all persons irrespective of age, ethnicity, economic status or gender roles.

 
In staying true to his earlier promise, 2Baba has released a new song to mark World Refugee Day. The song titled ‘Hold My Hand’ is a compassionate call to everyone to show love to one another especially those in need. Leading by example, 2Baba pledges to donate 60% of the proceeds from the song to the IDP cause via the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) toward the humanitarian efforts to help IDPs in Nigeria. 2Baba has made a public call to all Nigerians, to stream and download the song, and also use it as Caller Ring Back Tune, because by doing so, “we will all be doing our bit”, he said.

In a new drama, “Alter Ego” Omotola Jalade Ekeinde played a woman with multiple personalities and was in some s*x scenes.


The new movie by Moses Inwang‘s Sneeze Films, which also stars Wale Ojo has just been released and as expected, people are talking about the s*x scenes.

In an interview with Jayne Augoye of Premium Times, Omotola discussed what her husband thinks about the movie.

On how her husband perceives her s*x scene in the movie, Alter Ego
Some of the s*x scenes in Alter Ego were downplayed because I’m married. But I won’t play the s*x scenes if it wasn’t necessary to be included in the film. I know by starring in this movie that my fans would either hate me or love me forever.
While shooting the film, I knew I was doing something quite risky. There are several ways to shoot a s*x scene tastefully. I’m all for playing a s*x scene convincingly and my husband knows this. I tell my husband, “You know what darling, you married an actor”; and secondly, he is my biggest fan. I tell him, “Do you want me to be great or do you just want me to be good?” He will say, “I want you to be great, sparklingly great”.
Then I’ll say, “ Ehen, we go love o” and he’s fine with it. He understands but just like every other human being and the professional that he is, he too wants to be convinced that I played a s*x scene because it was necessary. I know when he watches movies sometimes he would say, “Did they have to kiss if they were not going to kiss well?” When I wasn’t even confident, I starred in a movie called a prostitute, which was released 22 years ago. If I didn’t die then, is it now? I’m ready.

The first edition of Mr & Miss Model Nigeria is set to hit the entertainment industry with a plan to rewrite the story of modelling business in Nigeria.

According to the organizer of the event - Versace, the mediocrity has plagued modelling business and the good ones are usually not given the spotlights due to favoritism.

“After a careful study, I discovered that there are many talented youths who can do well in modelling and in the entertainment industry generally, the pageant is meant to empower Nigerian youths, promote national unity or integration, talent development and enhancement. Mr and Miss Model Nigeria is meant for models and youths in general. We therefore set up this platform to harvest real models and give them a voice and showcase.”

The pageant is themed “Discover Yourself” and is scheduled to hold its auditions in Anambra, Enugu, Delta, Imo, Rivers, Lagos, Abuja, and Akwa ibom. Winners are expected to walk away with an Official car, five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) cash prize. Others includes advert jobs for sponsoring companies, Brand Ambassadorship from sponsoring brands, cover page appearance on African Youth Magazine, Mr & Miss Model Nigeria Magazine and other mouth watering benefits.

The organizer of the pageant “Give It Back Concept” has also said the pageant is built on quality of the models with a view to selling them into the ever boring entertainment industry in Nigeria.

According to the Brand Manager, Mr Emmanuel, Nollywood is expected to welcome more talent from the event.

“We are not bragging but the truth is that so many stars will emerge from Mr & Miss Nigeria especially in Music, Dance and Acting. We hope to leave no stone un-turned in that regards.”

Ben Chukwu – It may be a common sight of cyclists moving in convoys along major streets of Lagos and other cities of Nigeria but little attention has been paid to the huge potentials that abound in this sports tourism.

While international competitions have cashed in on the huge opportunities available, Nigeria has not fully appreciated it thereby losing out on not just the physical value but its huge tourism potentials


In this interview with FRANCIS OGWO of Eventnews Africa, the international cyclist, fitness trainer and bares his mind on the need to pay attention to cycling.

EN: Please introduce yourself briefly

Ben Chukwu: (Smiles) I am Benjamin Chukwu, a cycling tourist, mountaineer, entertainer, social advocate, model and fitness trainer. In fact my caps are much as I represent anything impactful to my generation.

EN: To what extent do you think cycling tourism has been explored in Nigeria?

Ben Chukwu: Not really much. It is so painful that in Nigeria, we haven’t started to scratch the surface. The potentials are making so many countries rich and so many international competitions are putting their host countries on global tourism maps but with Nigeria left behind.



EN: What level of awareness has gone into the recognition of the potentials?

Ben Chukwu: There is no better time than now for people to embrace this sport. This is due to the increasing suicidal rate in the country. So many people have been giving up due to depression and anxiety. So many others are obese and dying of blood related issues. There is no how you can be a cyclist and have blood related issues. It tends to cool down and rejuvenate ones mental and physical metabolism.

In tourism, cycling can be used to unite warring communities and also settle border related issues. Unfortunately, people see cyclists on the road as jobless people especially while going to work on an early morning and you see hundreds of cyclists on a tour. Funny enough there are CEOs of companies cycling away among the pack. The moment people pay attention to cycling as a sport with huge potentials, the better for us as a nation.

EN: Are there age limitations to cycling?

Ben Chukwu: There are no limitations to cycling as it can be beneficial to different people for different reasons and recreational purposes. Families can go on cycling within residential areas with low traffic, companies can do staff cycling for sports week, and more. So you see, with this all ages and status can benefit from this.

EN: What should we expect from you in the nearest future?ss

Ben Chukwu: I am working on a project I wouldn’t want to disclose now but Nigerians should watch out for me and then will get to appreciate the diversities that can come from cycling in developing tourism in Nigeria.
