A lot of people migh have their own reservations about award events in Nigeria and the world over.
I remember the Kanye West saga at an award, I also remembered one celebrity in Nigeria asking Lil Kesh to ‘pull a Kanye’ on the Headies Award if he didn’t get the Next Rated award. I’m sure we all witnessed what happened… Olamide slamming the Microphone while Don Jazzy said ‘Ebgon Olamide if you want the car come and collect the key’ I’m sure you all remember the drama that ensued. Ok, so I heard it was Dangote who called them to settle the ‘beef’. But that’s all in the past now.

The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award has come and gone but the memories still linger on just like every other award. The pains of missing out on an award category which you expected to bag and the joys of winning an unexpected award. I’ll say congratulations to Falz on his first movie award, way to go man, keep it up.

While other celebrities were getting dressed and others strutting away on the red carpet, Yvonne Nelson was in her home tweeting away bitternes she had in her.

One of the founders of Campus Torch Magazine, Taiwo Ogunde spoke on the topic “How productive are Nigerian students – Before and after school?

According to Taiwo Ogunde, what’s the point getting into institution and thereafter not been able to get a good job. There is purpose we all need to fulfill in life. The critically acclaimed movie had been long awaited by many who were excited to see the movie and gave it excellent reviews after watching it.

The movie written, produced, directed by, and starring Nollywood's A-List actress, Stephanie Linus, is an inspired true story that follows a trail of Zara's (played by Stephanie Linus) trip to Africa, her constant turmoil as a result of inexplicable horrors from her child hood, her experiences and heartaches while working with young girls suffering from complications from early child birth as child brides, against the backdrop of a rich African culture. It is full of intrigue, suspense, unbelievable surprises, the joy of reconciliation and the power of the human spirit that is guaranteed to captivate and engage moviegoers.

Many turned up to give their support to the award winning actress including her husband Linus Idahosa, Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic, Sola Sobowale, Mo Abudu, Ruth Osime, Nkiru Anumudu, Tara Fela-Durotoye, Ray Kyles - British Deputy High Commissioner, Representatives from the Canadian Embassy, Representatives from the US Consulate amongst others.

The film stars: Darwin Shaw as Dr. Alex, the legendary Liz Benson Ameye as the Matron, Bill McNamara as Dr. Brown, and Introducing Zubaida Ibrahim Fagge as Halima the teenager who had to endure a life not designed for a child: to be married to a man who was more than four times her age. This was after the Press Briefing and official launch of Del-York International’s Creative Training Program in Lusaka, Zambia. Del-York has entered into a landmark partnership with the Government of Zambia and the Zambian National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) to build capacity for Zambia’s Creative Industry.

He was seen with key stakeholders and senior Government officials in Zambia, among who were, The Director General of the ZNBC Mr. Richard Mwanza, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Vincent Mwale; Minister of Tourism Mrs. Jean Kapata; The Chairperson of the Zambian National Arts Council, Mrs. Mulenga Kapwepwe; Nigerian Ambassador to Zambia, Mrs. Sifamu Inu Umoru Momoh and the President of the Zambian International Trade and Investment Company (ZITIC) Mr. Sebastian Kopulande.

At this crucial juncture in our national life, it is imperative that we the products of the Unity Schools examine the role of our alma maters in nation building, particularly in addressing the need for national cohesion and unity in such a culturally and religiously heterogenous country. We need to address the following questions: What has happened to the vision of the founding fathers of the Unity Schools? Do the Unity Schools still bear relevance in today’s Nigeria? What should be the role of the products of the Unity Schools in nation building?

The FGC Kano Old Students Association (Lagos State Branch) has taken the lead in kick-starting this conversation with the organization of a National Dialogue in conjunction with the National Secretariat of the Unity Schools Old Students’ Association. The event will feature a keynote address by Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission and will have Dr. Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate and Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State as Special Guests of Honour. There will also be a distinguished cast of Unity Schools’ alumni who will be panelists at the dialogue.
