President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed Vice Chancellors of the nation’s universities to expel students with less than 0.5 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) at the end of every session.

Buhari, represented by Anthony Onwuka, Minister of State for Education, made this known while speaking at the 31st convocation of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)

He said the university should not be crowded with unserious students loitering around but those who are serious about learning.

“We must stop to continue housing adventurers, who have no business remaining in the universities beyond the time specified for their studies in the universities.”

“In that wise, it is being proposed that at the end of this academic year, any student with less than 0.5 CGPA should cease to be a student of the university and should be shown the way out.

“The universities must continue to have people who are serious in what they have come to do.

“If you have less than 0.5 in your CGPA, you are out. You are out for good so that the space will be left for those who have come to do serious business.”

The government also assured Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of its commitment to the 2009 agreement.

Finding meaning in life is to first understand that nothing can give meaning where there is no meaning. Truth needs no defense to make itself true. Illusions have no witnesses and no effects.

There is no hell, and there is no sin. Both are meaningless. Both are of the dream of separation, something our ego-based mind made up, and certainly not created by God.

If you look at hell and sin as real, then you have been deceived and will have a tough time finding meaning in life, or a life of purpose. Forgiveness is the only function there is to rid yourself of this illusion. Yes, that is right. Forgive yourself for your belief in sin and hell.

Why? Because the rage and despair you bring on are responses to illusions.

But this anger is over nothing; because isn’t illusion nothing?

The real truth is that you can actually increase the frequency and intensify a response to truth called joy in your life. This joy you produce is the response to your forgiveness of rage and despair. Joy is what you are, and here is where you finding meaning in life and a life of purpose.

Just like rage and despair, the response of joy can be an external, as well as an internal cue to make a change in someone else’s illusory thought process. The greater our identification with that person’s experience, the greater the elation.

A child’s achievements in school when she thought she did poorly, or a friend’s marriage when he thought love was hopeless, or the birth of a healthy baby. These are mutually joyful moments and certainly are finding meaning in life.

At age seven a father’s oldest daughter was determined to learn how to ride a bicycle.

He purchased the bike as a surprise for her birthday. A few other adults, including her over-protective mother, suggested to Erin–the new cycle rider, that she was too young and should wait one more year before learning to ride the bike.

The Dad was the culprit who convinced her she could do it now, and did not need to wait till the next year. She bravely positioned herself up and onto that bike without training wheels, as dad held it steady and upright.

When dad asked her if she was ready, and with her permission, he gave the bike a tiny push down a slight slope as she pedaled away, shouting out with elation to the world, “I’m doing it, Dad, I’m doing it, I’m riding a bike all by myself!”

He was elated as well, and she proved to everyone and herself that she was not too young to ride a bicycle. At that young age she stepped into finding meaning in life and achieving maximum potential.

The father felt a glow, a rush, and a thrill that cannot be explained, but I am sure you understand. I don’t know who was more thrilled, her or the dad, as she smiled proudly, cheek bone to cheek bone, and sporting those two missing front baby teeth.

The thought of this memory is still a hefty joy many years later for both dad and daughter.

Popular Nollywood actor and former President of Scriptwriters Guild of Nigeria, SGN, Chike Bryan, is dead.

Bryan, who was diagnosed with chronic renal failure in July 2013 and underwent regular dialysis at Igando General Hospital, Lagos, died last week.

Recall that in June 2014, the deceased had a successful kidney transplant after President Goodluck Jonathan donated N10 million for Bryan’s treatment abroad.

The money was given to him through the AGN President, Ibinabo Fiberesima.

Bryan, however, died three years after he survived a kidney transplant in India.

His close friend and colleague, Mac Collins Chidebe broke the news of his death on Facebook at the weekend.

According to him, Bryan was riding in his friend’s car when he received a phone call from home about some happenings. Then he lost his cool.

Afterwards, the friend asked him to calm down but it was too late. He suddenly had stroke and began throwing up in his friend’s car.

Chidebe wrote, “A guy I have worked so closely with in almost 10 months. Suddenly he disappears from my life. Death, O death, why?

“He woke up this morning hale and hearty. He had breakfast at a friend’s and was on his way to the office.

“Praying fervently for him, our friend made a turn and drove on neck break speed to his house where he picked his wife and rushed him to the hospital where he was admitted but later referred to LASUTH in Ikeja.

“On getting to LASUTH, the wife was told the hospital could not admit him for lack of bed space. For almost five hours my buddy was hanging on to dear life without treatment. How callous can some medical personnel be! An emergency case was treated with so much nonchalance.

“So much grief, sorrow, and tears in his home. CBN left behind a young wife and 5 lovely kids. I pray God to give the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

The actor and scriptwriter is known mostly for some of his greatest movie projects including A Million Madness, Magic Cap and Polygamy.

His death is coming less than two weeks after veteran actor, Prince James Uche, died of kidney failure.

Controversial rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem has said that new artistes like Don Jazzy are making a lot of money because of sacrifices old artistes like himself made.

In an interview with Hip TV, Abdulkareem said the Mavins boss was stranded in London, but only became successful as soon as he came back to Nigeria.

“Without the old artistes, the new artistes won’t make money, because we fought for the life that they are living right now.

The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye has instituted a N5 billion libel suit against an online media platform, SaharaReporters.

The Senator is taking the action against the organisation for alleged defamation of character, wrongful accusation, among other charges.

SaharaReporters, had in a report alleged that Melaye did not complete his first degree in Geography at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The development caught the attention of the Senate on Tuesday, leading to its decision to refer the matter to its Ethics and Privileges Committee for investigation.

The committee was directed to investigate the claim that Melaye not possess an authentic first degree certificate from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Reacting however, Melaye said he got his first degree several years ago and that his name was being smeared by those against his rising political profile.
The suit, according to his media office, was file at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, on Wednesday.

London Terrorist attack: At least Four Killed: With events unfolding rapidly at Westminster in and around the Houses of Parliament, here is what we know so far

Four people were killed, including an attacker and a police officer, and 20 were wounded in a terror attack in London, according to the head of London’s Metropolitan Police counterterrorism unit.
Four people have died, including a police officer and one man believed to be the attacker, police said.
At least 20 other people were injured in the attack, some with “catastrophic” wounds.
The alleged assailant drove a car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before crashing it and then trying to enter the complex, armed with a knife.
He was shot by armed police inside the security cordon of the Houses of Parliament.
Police currently believe there was only one attacker, but have locked down the area around Westminster and are searching the area.
Two of the victims are thought to have died on the bridge.
Several French students were among the injured, the French prime minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, said.
Three police officers returning from a ceremony were also among those injured on the bridge.One woman was rescued from the Thames with serious injuries, after she apparently jumped or fell from the bridge, a spokesman for the Port of London Authority said.

UK bans laptops and Tablets on Flights from Six Muslim Countries. The British government has announced a cabin baggage ban on laptops on direct passenger flights to the UK from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. The ban, which also applies to tablets and DVD players, follows a similar US move affecting eight countries. Downing Street said it followed talks on air security and was “necessary, effective and proportionate”. US officials said bombs could be hidden in a series of devices.
The ban applies to any device larger than 16cm long, 9.3cm wide or 1.5cm deep. It includes smart phones, but most fall inside these limits.

Chris Grayling,the U.K transport secretary, said the UK took the decision to protect British nationals and that they carefully understood the United State’s approach.
“We understand the frustration that these measures may cause and we are working with the aviation industry to minimise any impact,” he said in a written statement to parliament announcing the change.
“Our top priority will always be to maintain the safety of British nationals.”
Grayling said the government was still open for business with the countries affected: “We remain open for business. People should continue to fly and comply with security procedures.”
Passengers flying from the shortlisted countries will not be allowed to take any phones, laptops or tablets larger than a normal smartphone – specified as 16cm x 9.3cm x 1.5cm (6.2in x 3.6in x 0.5in) meaning such devices will need to be placed in hold luggage. The ban takes effect immediately and has no end date.

To avoid being on the negative side of Nigeria situation after service year, whether you are a Corp member, you are still an undergraduate or you are yet to secure admission but you know for sure that one day you will become a Corp member there are some things you need to have at the back of your mind to keep going, We heard from our parents that in the past, in this same country, people go to School, Graduate, finish their NYSC and start working immediately, but now reverse is the case. Considering what is happening in our Nation today, it is expected of every youth to be bordered about what the future is holding for him or her. So a question which every Corps member (and every youth) should ask him or herself is what the future holds for me or what next after my one year NYSC Program?

Big Brother Naija housemate, Efe has emerged the Ultimate Head of House, a new title introduced into the reality show.
According to ‘Biggie’, the title will have its full meaning, rights and privileges revealed on Monday Night.

Efe won the title by being the first housemate to successfully pop as many balloons that contained the alphabets needed to spell ‘Head of House’ from an Arena full of balloons.

In this week’s HoH challenge, Biggie opted for a game of patience.

Bally looked daunted by the sheer volume of balloons in front of him as he discussed the futility of the task ahead with Bisola.

TBoss obviously wanted to win task as each piece of paper containing an alphabet that didn’t correspond to what she needed was thrown to the floor angrily.

Evicted participant of the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality television show, Thin Tall Tony, on Sunday admitted he is married.

Recall that the evicted Big Brother Housemate had in February told fellow housemates, Bisola that he was single.

But a lady who claimed to be his wife, Laraba Audi Offiong few hours after he made the claim took to her instagram page to reveal some things about him.

According to her post which she shared on her Instagram page @missebonydiva, she claimed Thin Tall Tony was married to her with two kids.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly waded into the face-off between the Senate and the Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ali (rtd.), over the controversial ultimatum issued to car owners and dealers nationwide to pay the duties on their vehicles between March 13 and April 12, 2019, or risk having their cars impounded.

He did this to prevent a further escalation of the imbroglio brewing between the Senate and the NCS boss.

THISDAY reports that a source in the presidency revealed that Buhari on Tuesday cautioned his appointees to avoid any confrontations with the legislature that would pit it against the executive.

“On getting wind of the impasse that has ensued between the Senate and Ali over his refusal to honour its invitation, President Muhammadu Buhari cautioned all his appointees against causing disaffection between him as the head of the executive arm of government and the National Assembly,” the source said.

In this regard, Buhari was said to have directed Ali to honour the Senate’s summons to prevent an escalation of the stand-off between both sides.

The source further disclosed that the presidency informed Saraki that Ali would appear before the Senate and pleaded that he be given the opportunity to explain himself.

But, the source could not, however, confirm if Ali would appear on Wednesday or not, but disclosed that the presidency immediately reached out to Ali and cautioned him against worsening the executive/legislative relationship, which the president has been working to rebuild.

“It was the media reports of the looming face-off as it unfolded on Tuesday that prompted the presidency to immediately step into the matter,” the source said.

Later in the evening of Tuesday, Ali made a surprise turn up at the National Assembly and went straight into a closed-door meeting with Saraki.

Clad in white traditional attire, he was accompanied by three aides.

The Senate had earlier on Tuesday insisted that Ali must appear on Wednesday before the Senate over his refusal to stay action on the policy and directed him to appear in the full uniform of his rank as the CG of the Customs Service

The Ndigbo community in China has reportedly lost its Eze Ndigbo, His Royal Highness, Igwe Henry Chibueze Onwughalu, Herald reports.
Onwughalu died after he suffered a stroke for a while.
The Eze Ndigbo in China was in coma for a few days before he passed away in the early hours of yesterday, Wednesday, 8 March, 2017.

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has revealed how God told him 25 years ago that he would be the governor of the state.

Ortom, who described his ascension to the governorship seat as divine, said God mandated him to be transparent, fair and just while overseeing the affairs of the state.

He told Daily Sun that he had been finding it difficult to account for what the immediate past administration led by Gabriel Suswam achieved.

Recalling his first encounter with God, Ortom said, “God told me that I would be governor; that was in 1992, but I was waiting for my time until 2012, when God told me it’s 2015, so I started work.

“My aspiration was divine, I am not just coming in for the sake of contesting and winning election; I have a divine mandate, to execute the counsel of God over the land, to lead with the fear of God, and that would translate to transparency, equity, fairness, justice, accountability, honesty, selflessness, discipline and integrity in governance.

“Those are the core values that had been missing, and you see everything upside down in Nigeria. If we have those values, things would work well.”

BIG BROTHER NAIJA: I OVERPLAYED MY GAME – KEMEN FINALLY SPEAKS ON DISQUALIFICATION

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Ekemini Ekerette, who got disqualified from the reality show on Sunday night for inappropriate acts with a female housemate, Tboss, has apologized for his act.

Kemen posted the apology on his Instagram account and asked for forgiveness from Tboss.

He wrote: “I knew that everybody was playing the game in the house at the same time competing for the prize. I realised that I overplayed my game which brought about my disqualification.”

Kemen also seized the occasion of the International Women’s Day, to also apologise to women across Africa, the entire crew of Big Brother Nigeria and his fans and family.

PayPorte, the sponsors of Big Brother Naija, had in a short statement posted on their official Instagram page, explained why he was sent away.

It read: “An Official Statement From PayPorte On The Incident Between Kemen and TBoss:

“Hello Everyone, based on last night’s footage of @Kemen_fitness making sexual moves on @officialtboss_ which sparked a large outrage, we will like to make our stance known on this matter.

Anambra House of Assembly has passed the 2017 Appropriation Bill of N115.5 billion.

The House, which passed the bill in Awka on Tuesday, added that the budget would ensure quality service delivery and more democratic dividends for the people of the state.

Gov. Willie Obiano sent the bill to the House on Dec. 6. The bill now needs his signature to become the law.

An analysis of the budget showed that N58.9 billion was appropriated for capital expenditure while N56.5 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr Obinna Emenaka, while presenting the report, commended the members for their cooperation during the budget defence.

Meanwhile Obiano has been urged to direct the Commissioner of Police to beef up security in Nteje in Oyi Local Governmnt Area to forestall breakdown of law and order.

The member representing Oyi constituency, Mrs Vivian Okadigbo, made the call during plenary on Tuesday.

N 1907 John D. Hertz, the owner of a taxi firm in Chicago, asked some academics at the University of Chicago to do a piece of research for him. He wanted to know what colour he should paint his cabs in order to make them stand out among the sea of black vehicles that then inhabited American city streets. The researchers’ conclusion was: yellow. Now, more than a century later, a group of researchers at a different university have concluded that yellow was a wise choice for other reasons, too. In a study just published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Ho Teck Hua of the National University of Singapore and his colleagues show that yellow taxis are less likely to be involved in accidents.

Dr Ho’s research made use of a merger that took place, in 2002, between two Singaporean taxi companies. One of the precursor firms had a yellow fleet. The other’s was blue. The merged concern has continued that bichromatic tradition to this day. At the moment it owns 4,175 yellow taxis and 12,525 blue ones. All are the same model (a Hyundai Sonata) and all undergo the same maintenance schedules. Any differences in safety between the two, Dr Ho reasoned, must therefore be caused by their respective colours.
To work out if such differences actually exist, he and his colleagues analysed three years’ worth of data supplied by the firm. They found that its blue taxis were involved in an average of 71.7 accidents per thousand vehicles per month while its yellow ones were involved in an average of 65.6. Below are Kitchen Tips to help you seal your position as the Lord of the Kitchen.

1. If you happen to over-salt a pot of soup, just drop in a peeled potato. The potato will absorb the excess salt.

2. When boiling eggs, add a pinch of salt to keep the shells from cracking.

3. Never put citrus fruits(Oranges,Lemons, limes, etc) or tomatoes in the fridge. The low temperatures degrade the aroma and flavor of these fruits.(That’s why our tomatoes don’t last in the fridge)

4. To clean iron cook-ware, don’t use detergents. Just scrub them with salt and a clean, dry paper towel.

5. When storing empty airtight containers, throw in a pinch of salt to keep them from getting stinky.

6. If you are making gravy(stew) and accidentally burn it, just pour it into a clean pan and continue cooking it. Add sugar a little at a time, tasting as you go to avoid ‘over-sugaring’it. The sugar will cancel out the burned taste.

7. Burned a pot of rice? Just place a piece of white bread on top of the rice for 5-10 minutes to draw out the burned flavour. Be careful not to scrape the burned pieces off of the bottom of the pan when serving the rice.

8. Before you chop fresh red peppers, rub a little vegetable oil into your hands and your skin won’t absorb the spiciness.

9. If you aren’t sure how fresh your eggs are, place them in about four inches of water. Eggs that stay on the bottom are fresh. If only one end tips up, the egg is less fresh and should be used soon. If it floats, it’s past the fresh stage.

10. To banish ants from the kitchen, find out where they are coming in and cover the hole with petroleum jelly(Vaseline). Ants won’t trek through the jelly. If they are coming under a door, draw a line on the floor with chalk. The little bugs also won’t cross a line of chalk.



11. Don’t store your bananas in a bunch or in a fruit bowl with other fruits. Separate your bananas and place each in a different location. Bananas release gases which cause fruits (including other bananas) to ripen quickly. Separating them will keep them fresh longer.

12. To keep potatoes from budding in the bag, put an apple in with them.

13. If you manage to have some leftover wine, cocktail drinks at the end of the evening, freeze it in ice cube trays for easy addition to sauces (white wine works wonders in sauces, i don’t joke with them) in the future.
14. After boiling pasta or potatoes, cool the water and use it to water your house plants. The water contains nutrients that your plants will love.

15. When defrosting meat from the freezer, pour some vinegar over it. Not only does it tenderize the meat; it will also bring down the freezing temperature of the meat and cause it to thaw quicker. . Note every woman should have vinegar in her kitchen.
