PoliticsWike Criticises NJC For Suspending Judges Accused Of Corruption by Everfrank(op): 6:03am On Nov 05, 2016
Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers has said the decision of the National Judicial Council (NJC) directing judges under investigation to step aside portends great danger to the nation’s democracy.
Mr. Wike made the assertion when the executive members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Port Harcourt branch paid him a courtesy visit on Friday.

The NJC announced the decision on Wednesday, following calls for the suspension of the judges who are accused of corruption.

According to him, the u-turn by the NJC will encourage politicians to write petitions against any judge whose judgment is likely to go against such politician.

“This move to ask judges to step aside is in favour of politicians because no judge will deliver judgment against government or a ruling party.
“The implication is that politicians can now write as many petitions alleging that they saw a judge taking brown envelope – which will warrant the judge to be asked to step aside.

“For us, politicians, we are happy with this development because if I notice that I will lose a case, then I will tell my lawyer to write a petition which will result to the judge stepping aside.
“So, in other not to be alleged to have done anything wrong, judges will not give judgment against government or the ruling party.
“This is because, if judge deliver judgment against government or the ruling party, then agencies of government will come after them,” he said.

Mr. Wike said the development portends grave danger to the judiciary arm of government and to the common man.

He said the move was a clear manipulation and attempt to silence the opposition, especially as the nation was heading toward 2019 general elections.

The governor said that example to the manipulations was INEC’s quick reaction to announce federal and state legislative rerun elections shortly after the National Assembly ordered it to do so.

“Simply because the Senate said it must conduct election within five weeks; the next day, INEC came up with a time table for the election.

“This is the same INEC that cited insecurity as reason why it could not conduct elections in Rivers, and now within one day after Senate’s position, the same INEC released a time table.

“The question is when did INEC meet security agencies to now take a position that there is no longer security problem in Rivers State, hence the decision to conduct the rerun elections.

“All these boil down to manipulations which not only endanger our democracy but threatens us as a people,” he said. (NAN)

IslamSumiya Faruq Wants To Create The Islamic Youtube by Everfrank(op): 7:01pm On Nov 03, 2016
As a child, Sumiya Faruq would love listening to her father’s bedtime stories, most of which were of incidents from the Prophet’s (PBUH) life.

Sumiya’s parents would encourage her to question and dig deeper into the stories, and as she grew older, the youngster studied other religions, including Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism.

By the time the Hyderabad-based Sumiya was in college, she had a hard disk full of Islamic content, including videos of speeches by Islamic preachers, Quran recitations and tafsir of the Quran.

“Among friends and relatives, we used to exchange the content,” said the computer science engineer. “However, with time, this changed. The content moved to content-sharing websites such as YouTube and Vimeo.”

But there was a problem. “Unfortunately, YouTube or Vimeo is like a jungle. You find content of all categories and of all types, sometimes extremely distasteful and harmful.

On YouTube, if you are viewing Mufti Menk’s video about Paradise, the related videos could be of a completely different nature,” said Sumiya.

The advertisements on these video-sharing platforms can often lead someone to content that is “haram”, or forbidden.

“This problem gets further aggravated when people let their kids visit these sites. Kids might very soon end up learning things that are completely inappropriate for their age,” said Sumiya.

Sumiya saw an opportunity for a portal that has “clean Islamic content” for the whole family. And thus, in March 2016, Taqva.com was born.

Crime240 Boko Haram Terrorists Surrender — Nigerian Military by Everfrank(op): 9:10am On Nov 01, 2016
No fewer than 240 Boko Haram fighters have voluntarily surrendered to the Nigerian Army after they came under intense fire from troops, authorities said Monday.
“The firepower of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) ground troops and joint Air operation during the Operation GAMA AIKI forced a massive defection of remnants of the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT),” the Chief Military Public Information Officer, Muhammad Dole, said in a statement.
“Sustained offensive operations and blockage of logistics supply routes made the terrorists’ locations untenable; as a result, BHT and their families abandoned their locations and surrendered with their arms to the nearest locations of the ground forces in the operation areas.”
Mr. Dole, a colonel, said the mass defection took place in Bagasola town, in neighbouring Chad, considered by troops as Sector 2 Area of Responsibility (AOR).
The statement added, “A total of Two Hundred and Forty (240) Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) surrendered some of them with arms and ammunition. They are being profiled and camped in Bagasola. During his operational visit to Sector 2 AOR, the Commander MNJTF, Major General Lamidi Adeosun addressed the ex -BHT and their families.
“The Commander commended the leaders of the ex- BHT for their courage and taking the right decision to abandoned terrorism and insurgency for normal life. He assured them of safety and good care as long as they remain in the camps. He also urged them to encourage their colleagues in the bush to stop fighting and join them in the camps.
“This peaceful disarming and profiling of the ex-BHT by the MNJTF forces, clearly demonstrated extent of professionalism and adherence to International Humanitarian Laws and Laws of Armed Conflict in combat operations” he added. The Commander MNJTF donated token cash for purchase of two cows and 10 bags of assorted food stuff for each of the 2 groups for the welfare and up keep of the ex-BHT and their families.
“This brings the total number of surrendered BHT to MNJTF troops in sector 2 to four hundred and sixty-four.
“While addressing a team of International Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in the camps, the Commander praised their commitment and sacrifice in discharging their humanitarian duties. He implored them to mobilise more resources and manpower, as more BHT are expected to defect and join their colleagues in the camps.
“The ex-BHT are expected to receive trainings in different skills and small businesses as scheduled by government agencies and NGOs.
“In another development, the Commander MNJTF made presentation of cash to representatives of officers and soldiers who were killed in Action (KIA) and Wounded in Action (WIA) during Operation GAMA AIKI.
“As part of encouragement and alleviation of suffering to the victims’ families and wounded personnel, the Headquarters, MNJTF made provisions of One Million CFA (1,000,000.00 cfa) only for each family of KIA and Five Hundred Thousand CFA (500,000.00 cfa) only for each WIA in the battle field.
“During the presentations in Sector 2 Bagasola (Chad) and Sector 4 Diffa (Niger), General Adeosun prayed for the souls of the departed colleagues for the supreme sacrifice they made in the service to humanity and praised the courage and bravery displayed by the WIA.
“He equally consoled the families of the KIA and prayed for quick recuperation of the WIA. In sector 2 Bagasola, Commander was accompanied during the visit to ex-BHT camps by the Coordinator/Chief of Staff of the Chadian Ground Forces and Red Barrettes, Major General Ismael Hour, Deputy Commander, MNJTF, Brigadier General Musa Muhammad Djour and Senior Prefect of Bagasola.”

CrimeDetained Former Minister Obanikoro Offers To Refund N785m Stolen Election Fund by Everfrank(op): 1:40am On Oct 22, 2016
Embattled former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro may soon be let out of custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following indications that he has agreed to make refunds of the money he allegedly collected from the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The anti-graft agency accused the ex-minister of receiving N785 million from ONSA while in office.

His friends and associates are understood to be rallying around him to raise funds as a first step to secure his bail.

Obanikoro is understood to be targeting N100 million as the first installment of the refund.

From ONSA, about N4.685 billon was transferred to Sylva McNamara Limited, a company allegedly linked to the ex-Minister.

Obanikoro told EFCC interrogators that N3.880 billion of the N4.685 billion was allocated to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and Senator Iyiola Omisore.

He also said he handed over $5.377 million (about N60 million then) cash to Fayose at Spotless Hotel, Ado-Ekiti in the presence of the former Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Dr. Tope Aluko, and other party stalwarts.

He said the balance of N785 million was expended on alleged anti-Boko Haram campaign in Lagos and the South-West.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The ex-minister has been cooperating with detectives and he appears willing to refund some cash out of the N785 million traced to Sylvan McNamara.

“I think his associates and friends have rallied around him, having discovered that the bulk of the cash from ONSA went to Fayose and Omisore.

“I think he might initially refund N100 million to get bail reprieve in order to prevail on others who benefited from the N785 million to repay the slush funds.

“The refund is one of the issues delaying the granting of bail to the ex-minister.”

Obanikoro had said: “The balance of N785 million were used to prosecute the following: 1. procurement of souvenirs for the promotion of anti-Boko Haram insurgency in Lagos; 2. N200million for surveillance activities; 3. N200 million and other remaining funds were for operations managed by Taiwo Kareem.

“Taiwo Kareem impressed the former NSA with his management of pre and post-election funds. To God be the glory, the two elections were carried out without any loss of life

“When bomb blast occurred in Lagos on the 25th of June 2014, the NSA was disturbed and told me of his commitment to ensuring that such doesn’t reoccur.

“He expressed the grave consequence that the reoccurrence will have not only on Lagos but the economy of the entire country.

“He emphasized the need for local input to complement the activities of security agencies. This is how Sylvan McNamara was introduced.”

The EFCC had discovered that Sylvan Mcnamara Limited, allegedly owned by Obanikoro and his sons, was used to launder the N4.745 billion.

The company, which was incorporated in November 2011 had the following as its directors: a close aide of the ex-minister, Ikenna Ezekwe (700,000 shares) of 51 Simpson Street, Ebute-Metta; Idowu Oshodi (299,000 shares) of 8, Prince Tayo Adesanya Street, Park View Estate, Ikoyi; and Elizabeth Adebiyi (1,000 shares) of 3, Adedoyin Street, Ijeshatedo, Surulere.

Ikenna Ezekwe’s account has been de-frozen by the EFCC since the slush funds were not traced to him.

Ezekwe has also been removed as the director of the slush company.

A document said: “To set the stage for the use of the company for money laundering, the board of directors on May 7, 2012 passed a resolution that the company should open an account and appointed Mr. Gbolahan Obanikoro, Ikenna Ezekwe, Ms. Theresa Matuluko (Secretary) and Mr. Babajide Obanikoro as the signatories to the account.

“The board added that the signing combination be that any of the signatories can sign alone.”

EFCC claimed that when it was time to illegally draw the N4.745 billion from ONSA as the war chest for Ekiti Governorship poll, ex-minister Obanikoro made the account of Sylvan Mcnamara Limited available and coordinated the disbursement.

Contacted, Obanikoro’s spokesperson, Jonathan Eze, said he was not aware of the development.

Another source close to him, however, said: “it is true.”

PoliticsMoney Was Truly Found In My House But I Cannot Say How Much- Justice Ademola by Everfrank(op): 9:59pm On Oct 18, 2016
Two judges of the Federal High Court in Abuja, whose official residences were raided in the Federal Capital Territory between October 7 and 8, have written to their employer, the National Judicial Council, narrating their ordeals at the hands of the Department of State Services operatives.

Both Justices Adeniyi Ademola and Nnamdi Dimgba threatened to sue the DSS for violating their rights if their wish was granted by the NJC.

Justice Ademola, in his letter dated October 11, 2016 and addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the NJC, said the ordeal he faced last weekend was instigated by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami.

Our correspondent on Saturday obtained extracts from the six-page letter in which the judge maintained his innocence, saying there was no incriminating material found in his house during the raid.

MUHAMMDU BUHARI'S CONTRIBUTION TO AISHA'S CAREER

Aisha Buhari was born Aisha Halilu, on 17th February 1971, in Adamawa state. She did her primary and secondary school education in the same state.

When Aisha married Muhammadu Buhari on 2nd December 1989, she only had a secondary school leaving certificate at the time.

Based on his pragmatic outlook to life and a zeal to empower women, especially his wife, Muhamamdu Buhari continuously sponsored Aisha's education up to masters degree level.

Furthermore, he encouraged her to pursue business, so that she could be independent and make contribution to society.

These are some of Aisha's achievements while living with Muhamamdu Buhari as his wife:

1. Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

2. Master's degree in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

3. Diploma in Beauty Therapy from the Carlton Institute of Beauty Therapy, Windsor, United Kingdom.

4. Post-graduate diploma in Cosmetology and Beauty from Academy Esthetique Beauty Institute of France.

5. Member of the United Kingdom Vocational Training and Charitable Trust.

6. Member International Health and Beauty Council.

7. Founder/Managing Director of Hanzy Spa and Principal of Hanzy Beauty Institute.

8. Resource Person to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

9. Published a book titled "Essentials of Beauty Therapy: A Complete Guide for Beauty Specialists”.

10. Patron of various charity organisations at home and abroad.

Regardless of the joke he cracked in Germany, that his wife belongs to his kitchen, living room and the other room, this man, Muhammadu Buhari, has done everything conceivable to assist his wife attain fulfilment, independence, and thus become a proud contributor to human society.

Muhammadu Buhari has remained a faithful husband and a great father to Aisha's 5 children.

Ask yourself this sincere question; how many men out there on the planet are this good to their wives?

Fellow compatriots, I solicit for your fervent prayers for our President.

May God bless Nigeria and Nigerians. Amen.

Dr. Idris Ahmed.

PoliticsPMB Has Delivered His Promise On Niger Delta – Presidency by Everfrank(op): 3:23pm On Oct 07, 2016
….. says amnesty programme has been a success story

As the amnesty programme winds up next year, the presidency has said President Muhammadu Buhari has delivered his promise on the Niger Delta by ensuring the completion and sustainability of key programmes.

According to the Special adviser on Niger Delta to the President and coordinator of the Presidential amnesty programme, Brig Gen Paul Boroh, the programme has been a success story as it has transformed militants to electrical engineers, marine engineers etc.

He spoke during the presentation of a refurbished 200kva 11/415kv transformer and demonstration by the four best graduates from the just concluded Presidential Niger Delta Amnesty Programme on Electric Power Transformer Repair and Maintenance in Port Harcourt by Brainbox Matrix Services Limited.

Boroh said;First, I appreciate the President for sustaining this Programme because if not for his giving us the go ahead to continue your training the capacity of the ex-agitators, it would have been difficult for us to achieve this great feat today.

“You can imagine a group of persons who have transformed from militancy to be electrical engineers, obviously I’m very proud of it because it has been a success story. And my appreciation goes to Mr. President who in his determination and commitment in stabilizing the Niger Delta region through human capacity development as well as infrastructural development.

“In this case is two in one, the ex-agitators, 23 of them have developed their human capacity in terms of skills acquisition in transformer maintenance and establishment. This has transformed these persons to who they were to the present as well as the refurbishment of transformer which will now supply power to the environment where it is deployed.

Asked how how realistic is the projection that the programme will end next year, Boroh explained that the exit strategy of the presidential amnesty programme, has the connotation of adequate requirements to ensure continuity adding that the president has bought into the development of region through sustaining the programme.

According to him, this is linked to President Buhari ‘s promises during the campaigns when he said he was committed to ensuring the Niger Delta is stable during his administration and this came to manifestation during the flag off on the Ogoni clean up.

“He also ensured that in this year’s budget the rail line running from Lagos to Calabar was included in the budget. All these will create room for job creation and infrastructural development of the region.

” Only two days ago (Wednesday), He set up an executive committee on stoppage of gas flaring in the Niger Delta, this will translate to high level of job creation and infrastructural development of the region.

“The president also ensured that the pilot trainees in Jordan completed their Programme and ensured the development of human capacity development of the ex-agitators in agriculture which will ensure job, wealth creation as well as food security. The amnesty office has been mandated to use the bio-resource center in Odi, Oyo, Cross River, all these are to demonstration Mr. President’s interest to revamp the region.

On agitation in the Niger Delta, he said ;For those still in the creeks, this is a challenge, is an opening, a wider platform for the, to emulate and embrace so that their capacity will also be developed, instead of wasting the human resource elements in them. This means opportunities are open to them whether they are agitators or not.

InvestmentEven If National Assets Were Offered To Me On Credit I Will Not Buy- Dangote by Everfrank(op): 4:45pm On Oct 04, 2016
One of Africa’s richest men Aliko Dangote has disclosed that even though he was the one who suggested the sale of national assets as a means through which Nigeria could fight the current recession, he is not interested in buying NLNG or any other national asset.

He said this in an interview with Thisday stating that even if the assets were offered to him on credit he still wouldn’t buy them.

Dangote said; “Why did I suggest that we should sell some of the assets? I know the touchy one is the NLNG. I want to make it categorically clear that even if the government is selling NLNG on credit, I am not interested in buying.

“I don’t have any interest in NLNG and I will not buy it. It is not a business that I want to invest in. It is a mature business; that is what people don’t understand. You see, we should have invested heavily in all these Brass LNG, Olokola LNG, etc, when former President Olusegun Obasanjo started work on the projects, but we missed the opportunity.

“Today, you have massive LNG projects that have been done by Qatar, Australia and the United States is also exporting. But right now, all the gas that we have is even in the ground.

“Even Mozambique has a massive amount of gas and also Tanzania, and they are nearer to the markets than we are. So, if somebody is even going to invest in LNG, he would go to those areas and invest there and not here in Nigeria, because the investment here daunting. So my own suggestion is that even if we must sell, it doesn’t have to be 100 per cent of our interest in NLNG.”

“People are just saying it is better to go and borrow, but I don’t know where they are coming from. You see, with borrowing, if I have issues with my business today, the bankers who would lend me the money would want to see me doing something first to see how the business can survive. There would be conditionalities. But if you are not shedding weight, how do you expect somebody to help you with funding? You have to start first by trying to shed weight and showing the person (lender) who wants to help you with the assets you want to sell”.
