Hmm, it's a shame that this man is still incarcerated without being convicted. This is one of the reasons why I don't take any civil society group and Human Rights association serious. Why are they still holding him without trial? Do we have judiciary in this country? Why are people so silent about this? How can we allow a tyrant to erode our constitution? If Dasuki committed any of the crimes he is being accused of, he should be tried in a competent court and if found guilty, then the appropriate punishment should be meted out. Holding him without trial is a gross violation of his fundamental rights no matter the angle you're looking at it. After people will expect a fugitive like Tompolo submit himself for a useless kangaroo trial. It's disheartening that our judiciary which supposed to be the last hope of the oppressed, is now an instrument of oppression itself. They have allowed the executive to annex them.

The Presidency will install plagiarism detection software in the computers of its speechwriters to prevent a recurrence of plagiarism in presidential speeches, sources in the State House have disclosed.
President Muhammadu Buhari had in his “Change begins with me” speech this month lifted a paragraph from US President Barack Obama’s 2008 victory speech.

The presidency had apologized for the incident - which it blamed on an overzealous aide - and said it wouldn’t happen again.
Sources said officials in the presidency have now resolved to take a range of measures to guard against any further embarrassment.
“One of the measures will be to install plagiarism detection software to check speeches before they are delivered by the president,” an official involved in the plan told Daily Trust.
He said they all felt embarrassed by the plagiarism case, even though it was essentially the stupidity of one individual who didn’t envisage the gravity of his action.
When contacted over the plan, presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, confirmed it. He said the Presidency was determined to ensure that a case of plagiarism would never happen again.
He had earlier issued a statement in which the presidency blamed a deputy director “for the insertion of the contentious paragraph”.
It said: “This serious oversight will be investigated thoroughly and appropriate sanction meted. The Presidency wishes to state in the clearest possible terms that it regrets this unfortunate incident and will ensure that this does not happen again. President Buhari urges Nigerians to look beyond this incident and focus on the message of change,” the statement added.
Sources told Daily Trust that the deputy director responsible for the incident would be removed from the presidency. The case was particularly embarrassing to the presidency, especially as it came at a time US officials scheduled a meeting between President Obama and President Buhari.
The two presidents are expected to meet Tuesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session. President Buhari is already in New York to attend the UN session and conduct several other international engagements.

The federal government says plans are underway for Nigerian military and para-military personnel to use made in Nigeria textile for their uniforms.
The Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment, Hajiya A’isha Abubakar, said this, yesterday, in Benin at the 28th Annual National Education Conference of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) and the Nigerian Textile, Garment and Tailoring Employers Association (NTGTEA).

Represented by a director in the ministry, Barnabas Jattau, Hajiya A’isha said: “The government is presently discussion with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on how to stop smuggling of textiles materials into the country through the nation’s border posts.”
“The other plan is to reduce production cost, especially the cost of gas. We are working out ways to change gas pricing from dollar to naira.”
She said that the government, worried by the state of textile industry in the country, would revive the sector by ensuring that made in Nigeria textile was patronised by Nigerians.
Earlier, the President of the NUTGTWN, John Adaji, urged the federal government officials to wear clothing from fabrics made in Nigeria to encourage local textile manufacturers.
He advised President Muhamadu Buhari to shift from rhetoric to practical actions on the nation’s textile industry, saying that his achievement would be measured by the success he recorded in reviving the textile sector.
Also speaking, the Director General of the NTGTEA, Hamman Kwajjaffa, said that poor electricity supply remained major challenge in reviving the ailing textile sector.
He condemned smuggling of textile goods from Asia and other parts of Europe into Nigeria.
On his part, the General Secretary of NUTGTWN and National Vice President, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Isa Aremu, said that the recent re-orientation campaign launched by Buhari should be embraced by especially members of his cabinet.
“The new change mantra must start from the textile industry with the president, vice president and ministers wearing made in Nigeria textiles,” he said.
“Our school uniforms, military and para-military uniforms, uniforms of the NYSC should be made in Nigeria with Nigerian fabrics, we must patronise our produce at home.”

Civil rights advocate, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has advised the federal government to reject the conditions set by the government of Switzerland to the repatriation of the $321million stashed in that country by the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha.

In a letter to the government, Falana said the conditions imposed on Nigeria that allowed the World Bank to supervise the spending of returned assets by the Nigerian government breached international law, principles and standards. He described the conditions set by Switzerland as insulting, noting that the government of Switzerland lacked the right to unilaterally impose conditions on Nigeria.

“Imposing conditions on Nigeria regarding the spending of returned assets is disproportionate and amounts to an unlawful intervention because Switzerland has no legal or moral right to the assets.

Indeed, Switzerland is completely complicit for the stashing and depositing of stolen assets from Nigeria in its banks and other financial institutions,” he said.

He expressed concern that the World Bank itself had not demonstrated sufficient level of transparency and accountability in its supervision of spending of previously returned Abacha loot. He lamented the empty promises made so far by Switzerland and the United States to return forfeited assets worth over $800 million.

“It is clear that the western countries will continue to frustrate the repatriation of the looted wealth of the nation being warehoused by them, albeit illegally,” he said.

1) Sudden Implementation of Treasury Single Account (TSA)- This policy threw the banking and financial sector into turmoil as huge sums were swept out of banks and dormantly stashed into a preferred safe.

4) Halting of Important Projects in the Niger Delta- Buhari moved to remove majority of the projects that were created to provide tangible benefits to Niger-Deltans. For example, the Maritime University and Pipeline protection projects. Though, some of these projects were condemned by Nigerians, they kept the Niger-Delta at peace and allowed for the maximization of the benefits from petroleum exports.

5) Buhari's Northern Developmental Focus in Nigeria- The developmental aim of the president is very much skewed towards Northern Nigeria than every other part. So, he is more like kick starting a new economic focus, while dumping existing economic strengths. For example, he is devoting billions of dollars to search for petroleum in the North when Nigeria does not have functional refineries to ensure adequate availability of petroleum products that are already being produced in the South.

6) Elimination of All the Policies Made by PDP- it is on record that even though PDP led governments were corrupt, they made some major strides in diversifying Nigeria's economy. For example, Agricultural export came to life under PDP. Buhari has focused on bedeviling and antagonizing every single policy made by the PDP. In the process, he has thrown out good policies and progress that were made in the past. He is almost starting afresh, and this has rebooted Nigeria and thrown us years backwards.

7) Preference for Violence over Dialogue- Buhari prefers to use military force to quell civil strife. This approach ignites more protests and civil disobedience. An economy cannot experience progress in violent conditions. Even Lagos and Ogun axis has experienced an open show of military bombardment, which scares a heck out of investors. The same is true about the production shut ins in the Niger Delta region. Some of these issues can be solved with dialogue and with police actions than full scale military assaults.
