Good day sir,
I sincerely need your advice. I am building a 3 bedroom duplex which has already been decked. We used nine inches block exclusively for the ground floor which comprises of a a living room, a guest room, kitchen, dining and store.
1. What size of block is appropriate for the the first floor? Is it nine or six inches? What are the merits and demerits of using either?
2. Can you please give me a rough estimate of how many blocks I will need for the first floor of 3 bedrooms( including one master's bedroom) and a mini living room.

Why we must all support full implementation of Sharia Law in the North

Let them have their sharia .

They have now resorted to using sharia agents like the Hisbah to subvert the constitution on state police.


I say let them have sharia not in parts but in full like what transpires in places like Saudi Arabia.


They should be made to know that having full sharia will come with its own negative consequences.

For example, full sharia does not allow for commercial banks.

If they want full sharia law in the north then the CBN must as a matter of urgency withdraw all operational banking liscences from the north other than Sukkot Sharia banks.

Since sharia also forbids the consumption and retailing of alchohol , then the northern sharia states should also not partake in alchohol Vat and excersise duties henceforth.

Not stopping at that, since they want full sharia law in the north, then they should ban the religious activities of other non Muslims. Churches should be banned as well as bibles and other Christian paraphernalia. The sharia caliphate of northern Nigeria should also ban non Muslims from their domain in the event that these infidels may corrupt the system. So with that, Christian corpers should not be posted to sharia north. Let them use their own Muslim Arabic studies graduates as part time teachers.

And since sharia law will become supreme in the northern sharia caliphate, I believe there is no need for the secular Nigerian police. The Hisbah brigade should henceforth take over all policing activities in the sharia north. The same also should apply for the closing down of all conventional courts. Let the sharia court become supreme since its law is supreme.


This will go a long way in establishing the utopic sharia enclave they have always wanted and also have all Christians vacate the north for the Ummah.

Bearing this in mind that for every action there is a reactionary event, I also suggest that Christian majority states in the south should also pass legislation banning the activities of Muslims in their various states.

Since the north wants apartheid we should gladly give it to them.

They have been using their sharia aggigtation as blackmail on Christians in their region. Henceforth they should go full sharia and from there face the consequences of their actions.


The north should not be allowed to have their cake and eat it anymore.

That defends on a number of factors
1. Do you have basic knowledge of satellite and receivers?
2. Number and types of channels you wish to use.
3. Wether or not there is constant/reliable electricity supply in the area you wish to operate. This is very important. Etc etc
Answer the above questions for proper guidance.

Refer to the tvs manual or call a qualified installer to check what and what satellites are pre installed. He may use a dish and set the signal for you.
Could you post the names of some of the channels that u see. Maybe the gurus in the house will advise you.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has resumed payments of cash stipends to former militants agreed under a 2009 amnesty in the country's Niger Delta oil hub, a government official said on Thursday.

The government has been holding talks with militants to end attacks on crude pipelines which reduced Nigeria's output by 700,000 barrels a day for several months last year.

Authorities had originally cut the budget for cash payments to militants to end corruption but later resumed payments to stop pipeline attacks crippling vital oil revenues.

"Two months of the ex-militants' stipends were paid yesterday ... The rest of their stipends will be paid later in batches by (central bank) CBN," said Piriye Kiyaramo, an officer in the government's Amnesty Office.

He said the paid stipends covered August and September.

Each former militant is entitled under the amnesty to 65,000 naira ($206.68) monthly plus job training.

Eric Omare, spokesman for the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), which represents the Delta's biggest ethnic group, said former militants had complained to the region's top negotiator handling talks with the government about payment delays.

President Muhammadu Buhari met Niger Delta leaders and representatives for the militants in November to discuss their demands but little progress has emerged publicly since then.

The militants and residents who sympathise with them say they want a greater share of Nigeria's oil wealth to go to the impoverished region.

Crude sales make up about 70 percent of government revenue and the attacks have deepened an economic crisis brought on by low global oil prices.

Nigeria currently produces "close to" 1.8 million barrels a day of crude, its oil minister said last month, the latest official figure. Output had been 2.2 million bpd at the start of 2016 when a wave of pipeline attacks began.

The President of the Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki has launched a contest to promote made in Nigeria products.

The Contest scheduled to run for three months is aimed at showcasing the process and raw materials used in producing such locally made goods.

In a statement personally signed by Saraki, he said that the contest would identify the good products that could be matched with investors and government agencies.

He said that such agencies or investors would drive the products to the extent that they compete favourably with any similar product being imported.

“Today, as promised, we kick-start the soft launch of the #MadeInNigeria Challenge.

“This campaign is organised to showcase everyday products that are used by Nigerians and produced by Nigerians locally that serves as an alternative to imported products.

“The next few weeks, we hope to identify products and ideas that can be matched with investors and government agencies.

“To wrap up the Challenge, in March, we will be inviting some of the finalist to a Made In Nigeria Roundtable at the Senate.

“This Roundtable will allow us, legislators, Government Agencies, business owners, and everyday Nigerian consumers to review and update the report of the National Assembly Business Environment Roundtable (NASSBER), which was held in 2016 to improve the ease of doing business in the country,” he said.

Saraki added that the roundtable would also be used to get feedback on the Public Procurement Act passed by the Senate in 2016.

The amended Act mandates government agencies to give preference to local manufacturers in Procurement of goods and services.

He wished all the participants good luck and called on Nigerians to use the hashtag #MadeInNigeria in all your submitted videos.

To participate in the contest, participants are to shoot a video of between 45 seconds to 3 minutes showcasing their product or service that is an alternative to imported ones.

The manufacturer must utilise up to 70 per cent of locally sourced raw materials to qualify as a made in Nigeria goods or services.

The video has to state the registration status of the company, the number of people currently employed and the intervention you need from government to aid small businesses in Nigeria. (NAN)

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has “categorically and unequivocally” passed a vote of no confidence on the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in connection with its handling of the current Niger Delta crisis.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, the movement said this development is without prejudice to the pre- 2015 presidential election endorsement it freely and voluntarily gave to Mr. Buhari on January 6, 2015.

Giving reasons for its decision, MEND noted that prior to and after his reluctant meeting with traditional rulers, opinion leaders and stakeholders of the Niger Delta region, under the auspices of PAN NIGER DELTA FORUM (PANDEF) on November 1, 2016, President Buhari has been carrying on arrogantly and making controversial, prejudicial, conflicting and contradictory statements about the politics and economy of the oil-rich region.

It demanded that President Buhari put a stop to his “cunning, crafty and unstatesmanlike” rhetoric about the Niger Delta region as they have only served the purpose of jeopardizing the fragile peace in the region.

He must also consequently “direct the relevant agency of Government to immediately commence dialogue with the Niger Delta region, as duly and ably represented by PANDEF,” Gbomo said.

“Furthermore, notice is hereby given to the Federal Government that all Niger Delta Militant commanders and/or individuals who were tracked and arrested while observing a ceasefire ahead of talks with the FG should be treated well,” the statement said.

It added that they should be allowed access to their lawyers, the International Red Cross as well as a delegation from PANDEF so as to ascertain their wellbeing and ensure they have not been tortured or killed, extra judicially.”

1 Nigerian killed, another abducted in South Africa–Union

The Nigerian community in South Africa on Sunday confirmed the death of a Nigerian and the abduction of another member in that country.

Mr Ikechukwu Anyene, the President of Nigeria Union, South Africa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone from Pretoria that both incidents had been reported to the Nigerian Mission in that country.

He alleged that one Victor Nnadi, a native of Orlu in Imo , was suffocated to death on Thursday by the Metropolitan Police in Cape Town.

Anyene claimed that eye witnesses saw the police handcuff the victim and suffocated him to death.

“ When the people saw what happened, they raised an alarm and confronted the police.

“ The union`s chapter in Cape Town is already on top of the situation and trying its best to facilitate the release of the detained brother of the deceased,” he said.

Anyene, however, urged the Federal Government to persuade the South African government to put measures in place to stop the killing of Nigerians.

The union , he said, also got information on Dec. 24 that one Austin Agunwa, a native of Umuawulu, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra, was abducted by unidentified persons at Rustenburg, North West Province.

He said Nigerians in the province raised a search team which later found the victim`s car abandoned, after a crash near a bridge.

Anyene, however, said the vehicle had no blood stain.

“ As we speak, we don’t know his whereabouts and nobody has claimed responsibility for his abduction.

“ We have directed the union`s chapter in the area to report the incident to the police and open a case on the missing Nigerian,” he said.

Anyene also said that the union`s national body would liaise with Nigeria’s High Commission to visit Rustenburg over the incident.

“ We have also advised our people to be calm and remain law abiding as the union and the Nigerian Mission are handling the situation,” he said. (NAN)

The Federal Government has commenced the payment of the N30, 000 monthly stipends for beneficiaries of the N-Power scheme -the job creation programme of the Buhari presidency.

The N-Power programme is designed to engage the teeming and massive numbers of unemployed Nigerian graduates from tertiary institutions across the country.

The Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Mr Laolu Akande, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, stating that `` all successfully verified beneficiaries who have provided bank accounts are being processed for payment.’’

According to the presidential media aide, "some beneficiaries will receive their first stipends today -December 30.’’

Mr Akande said the process of payment would continue after the New Year Public holiday, urging beneficiaries of subsequent batch of the scheme to take seriously their virtual training.

"Already, close to 50% of the 200,000 unemployed graduates selected in the first batch of N-Power job program have now been verified and being processed for December stipends' payment.

"This process will continue and some will receive their stipends after the New Year public holiday, starting from Tuesday, 3rd of January.

"N-Power Volunteer Corps members are encouraged to take their virtual training seriously over this period,’’ Mr Akande said.

Mr Laolu also encouraged states who had yet to conclude the physical verification process to do so, ``as that would enable the N-Power beneficiaries in those states to draw from its benefits & empowerment offers.’’

The unemployed graduates selected for the N-POWER programme are given assignments that will help to address issues in schools, hospitals and other areas in communities across the country.

A total of 150,000 out of the 200,000 selected in the first phase of the scheme would be deployed as support teachers to help address shortage of teachers in schools at the basic and secondary levels.
Another 30, 000 graduates would work as extension workers in various communities which will expectedly aid the government’s diversification agenda.

In strengthening community health services in line with the agenda of the Buhari administration, 20,000 graduates would be deployed as community health aides, under the first phase of the programme.

The Federal Government is overseeing the programme by way of providing the funding but the project is going to be implemented in the states by the state governments.

Russia isn't expected to waste any time in retaliating to fresh sanctions imposed by President Obama's administration, potentially resulting in a quid pro quo game of diplomatic punishment.
Moscow appears to have already taken action. CNN reported late on Thursday that Russian authorities ordered the shutdown of the Anglo-American School of Moscow, which primarily serves children of Western embassy personnel, as well as the closure of a U.S. embassy vacation house in Serebryany Bor, near Moscow.

The Russian embassy in Singapore told CNBC that it was not placed to comment on the CNN report.
The closure of an international school would be unusual for Moscow, but not impossible, Douglas Paal, vice president for studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told CNBC on Friday.
Earlier on Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova already warned of payback after the White House penalized Moscow for alleged interference in the U.S. 2016 election.
"We can only add that if Washington takes new hostile steps, it will receive an answer. This applies to any actions against Russian diplomatic missions in the United States, which will immediately backfire at U.S. diplomats in Russia. The Obama administration probably does not care at all about the future of bilateral relations, but history will hardly forgive it for this après-nous-le-deluge attitude," she said in an official statement.
Washington sanctioned two Russian intelligence agencies, four officers of its largest intelligence agency, GRU, and three companies that supported GRU's operations on Thursday. Obama also expelled 35 Russian diplomats and closed two Russian compounds in New York and Maryland.
Going forward, Paal expects the U.S.-Russian conflict to play out in a more subtle fashion.

"The U.S. is going to mete out sanctions quietly without publicity and Russia will be watching closely how to react. So we may not necessarily see the exchange in the headlines, it's going to be more of a 'Spy vs. Spy' situation."

Whenever I hear those who ought to know say that Nigeria’s main problem is ethnicity, I often begin to develop cold feet. They seem to argue that if not for ethnicity (a colonial construct), the country would have move ahead. While I may agree that ethnicity is one of the manifestations of the numerous problems facing the country, I firmly disagree that ethnicity is the Nigerian problem.

The reader will probably face me and ask: “Lekan, what then is the problem of Nigeria?” my immediate answer to this is simply corruption. Not that corruption is not an issue in advanced countries, if not, the revelations in #PanamaPapers will not have been so sensational. The only difference here is that the Nigerian case is that corruption has tribal marks! I am aware some people may want to strongly disagree with me, but please come along with me.

Some days ago, I received the news, like most Nigerians, that former Governor of Delta state, Chief James Ibori, has been released from prison. This ordinarily would not have been serious news in that he would not be the first high profile politician to go to prison and be released. The news of “wild jubilations” in Delta state and many other places by his supporters, even in certain sections of the Nigerian media made the whole thing take a dramatic dimension. To even know that most of these same persons were the same people who took “strong exceptions” to ex-British Prime Minister, David Cameron’s, “fantastically corrupt” tag further makes the matter ironic. To those so-jubilating, Ibori is nothing but a man of the people. For them, Ibori is not corrupt, even though he pleaded guilty to corrupt charges in a London Court. To these ones, the politician is been persecuted because he is loved by his people. They seem to ask: “No be our money he steal wetin concern you na?” can you now see why I said corruption has tribal marks in Nigeria?

Ibori is a typical Nigerian politician who understands the psychology of human needs. His people will not mind him stealing so far he fills their stomachs with part of the loot. Like Chief Nanga in Chinua Achebe’s A Man of the People, all he needs to do is become visible in his community; buy traditional titles, build boreholes; employ some people in Oghara into government positions and become a hero.

Can we see how stagnant we are as a nation in terms of moral values?

Being a smart Nigerian politician, Ibori will run to the same people he looted dry to defend him in time of trouble. He will bring up the ethnic card. He will create a “us-versus-them” siege mentality of “they hate us that is why they are after me”. What else can you tell a man or woman who manages to get his bit of the “national cake” from politicians like Ibori? How do you want to preach to a people who roll out drums to sing and praise a corrupt former governor that he loots their state and that he is only spending crumbs on them? These ones will rather fight and die to defend “our son” that hear that he is corrupt. His village chiefs will welcome him back with both arms and award him the highest title in the land!

This happens to be the bitter truth in our country today. Ethnicity is only used as a tool, first by the colonial masters and later the post-colonial leaders, to divide the masses and permanently becloud their sense of reasoning so as to continue to divert their attentions away from the real issues. The Ibori’s case proves this just right. Corruption now has a tribal mark!

His identity has not yet been revealed. But his arrest along with Boko Haram members raise a lot of questions.
Is he a member of the group?
Is he a mercenary?
Is he the only one involved?
Was he sponsored by any government or group?
Is he a kidnap victim?
But it surely his arrest confirms PMB's claims that foreigners are involved with the terrorists.
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest so we wait on them to conclude their investigation and feed us with the real gist not to run into conclusions.
