Former EFCC Boss Mallam Nuhu Ribadu host young Nigerians from all 36 states of the federation including the Fct at the Reiz Continental Hotel in Abuja in a three days Camp named the TEAM RIBADU CAMP from 17th to 20th of september 2010.

The hall was agog with excitement. Chants of "It is Possible" filled the air like the raucous din of a victorious army. Yes, it was indeed a victorious army; an army of change agents, motivated by the desire to see a New Nigeria marked by the values of vision, integrity and competence. The venue was the Reizz Continental Hotel, Abuja. The event was the grand finale of Camp Ribadu, the 2-day intensive boot-camp for Ribadu volunteer coordinators from 36 states of Nigeria and the FCT; a heart-to-heart session with non other than Mallam Nuhu Ribadu himself.

Passion, strength, energy and possibilities filled the air as Nuhu charged the volunteers about the necessity and the possibility of building a New Nigeria. A nation where poverty is history, where electricity supply is no mystery; where security is a guarantee; and education is free. He told the crowd of his vision of a leadership that has the fear of God; that will do what is fair and right by the people regardless of the political cost. He promised a clean, open, honest, god-fearing and transparent leadership.

“A leader ought to be the reflection of his own people”, he said. It was impossible not to feel the thirst for change as he spoke.
The phrase “it is possible” reverberated within and outside the walls of the conference room. Above that however, the belief that a new Nigeria is attainable and achievable seemed emblazoned on the hearts of all those present as he spoke. His countenance beamed with enthusiasm, sincerity and force as he uttered the words: “Welcome to Nigeria…. Welcome to possibilities”.

With our nation’s fiftieth anniversary only a few days away, he said, this is the golden moment in our history; we will start writing our own story. The time has come for us Nigerians to put our feet down and get involved. The Nigeria we dream of is here. A country that can give justice, a country the young ones are ready to die for, a country to be proud of. That country he said “is happening today”.
Just like, Mahatma Ghandi became the symbol of non-violent civil disobedience against imperialism; Martin Luther King, the symbol of the civil rights movement; Nelson Mandela the symbol of the anti-apartheid movement; and Barack Obama the symbol of racial/ inter-faith unity and reconciliation; for those in that room, it was not hard to sense history in the making.

The aura of the atmosphere went far beyond the ordinariness of any political gathering; rather in this place, one could feel the birth of a new Nigerian identity. The words “the change will start when we start believing in ourselves” in his lips was certainly not the usual political clichés we have become tired of. It was a declaration of the inevitable change that has begun in Nigeria. For good or for ill, a fire was ignited in that hall; a fire that will rage into a blazing inferno of change and progress for the nation we love, Nigeria.

Nuhu Ribadu represents the symbol of that inferno of change that we need. The choice we have is to either help fan the flame, or be consumed by it. By recruiting one or many volunteers to team Ribadu or donating to the cause, we help fan the flame. The time is short. Let’s fan the flames!

After so many controversies attached with The King of Music, saheed Osupa akorede A.k.A Saridom P, he has decided to explain to the public.

HE goes by the name, Saheed Akorede, but his stage name is Saheed Osupa, by which he's known and appreciated by his teeming fans, home and abroad.
Today, in many down-town drinking joints and music outlets, it is common to find him a subject of discussion on many lips. While most of them give him thumbs-up for his uncommon philosophical lyrics, he gets hard knocks from the feeble-minded for what they are quick to term his unfashionable 'dress sense.' Yet, not a few agree that his rising fame, lately, is powered by his singing prowess and strengthened by his uncommon repertoire of traditional Yoruba proverbs and idioms.
The Ibadan, Oyo State-born cerebral composer went down memory lane in a chat with this reporter on how his career took off about 27 years ago. Said he: “I started way back in 1983 at Ajegunle, a Lagos community. Then, we started with a kind of competition. There was a man (now of blessed memory) who used to organise a competition for upcoming Fuji artistes and the rule of the contest was that contestants must sing songs that no one had sung before. And there was always a trophy for the winner. That was how I started. Then, I later waxed an album entitled Fadisco. The title was coined from Faaji and Disco. That was when I was known as Saheed Osupa Omonla.”
The artiste who literally got his break via Master Blaster and blew out of obscurity on the scene in the masterpiece, London Delight, however, attributed the intense rivalry among Fuji musicians to the bandwagon syndrome in the genre of music, which he said could only be put on check through creativity by practitioners. “Well, in a situation whereby there are too many people, definitely there will be difficulty. However, to stand out in the crowd, you have to be unique and creative; but sadly, many of the upcoming artistes today are not creative.”
Not a few music buffs stunned by his Yoruba lyrics would wish to fire a poser on how he came about his grip on proverb-laced compositions if by stroke of fate their paths cross. His answer to this came handy during the 45-minute chat: “It is natural. But then, I inherited the rich Yoruba idioms from my late grandmother who influenced me greatly as a child. I always sat beside her when she was alive because I loved listening to her all the time. I usually asked her questions concerning knotty proverbs and idioms and I received favourable responses from her. She was such a wonderful woman. At times, if I wanted to make her talk, I would annoy her and she would scold me with her usual Yoruba proverbs. I've always been using proverbs and idioms though it wasn't as deep as it is now; but I guess it has to do with my age. Then I was younger, but now I'm mature and so, my lyrics should also be very mature. As for my unique composition, it comes naturally. At times, I record them on my phone to get the real tone because I may lose the tone, if not stored. Apart from using my phone, I also write them on paper. Most times, I like to be left alone whenever I want to compose new songs and the inspiration will come. As I'm talking to you now, it may come. It could be through our discussions or my personal observations. But the inspiration that is constant to me is always spontaneous. It comes in my day-to-day interactions with my immediate environment.”
The recent face-off with some of his contemporaries over the use of King of Music title bestowed on him by Fuji music legend, Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, which put him in an eye of the storm and the interesting way he weathered it is no longer news. Although, the crisis gave him a controversial image in town, Jacky as he's also called by fans and admirers, detests it: “I'm not a controversial artiste. I think it is very unfair to say that Saheed Osupa is controversial. Some people are just being jealous of my success and this is why my detractors brand me as being controversial. I don't like praising myself, I'm a gentle guy. I don't like cheating people and I don't like to be cheated. If you cheat me I'll fight you. I grew up in Ajegunle with the likes of Daddy Showkey, Daddy Fresh and Baba Fryo. Guys from Ajegunle are known to be rough and tough because we didn't find it easy while growing up. You would fend for yourself. It's even pretty difficult for parents to feed, let alone feed children. Though it was relatively easy for my family, I just had to join my friends in the streets as a mark of solidarity. I left home at the age of 12 to join my friends. My mum looked for me everywhere till she found me at Tolu in Ajegunle and brought me back home; but I would run away and on and on till I discovered my talent.''
At that juncture, the reporter fired another poser about how he once allegedly beat up his music godson, Muri Thunder, during a row with arch rival, Alabi Pasuma and others. He said: “No. I didn't. What a lie! It was all part of the propaganda of my adversaries to discredit me. They are fond of framing all kinds of stories against me because they really don't have a tangible evidence to fight me. They are only being envious of my success because they haven't got my kind of style, finesse, composition, delivery, talent and above all other things, my ruggedness. I don't drink or smoke. I only chew gum on stage which I use to ward off distractions. As people have seen now, no amount of such propaganda can stand my unique gift which has made me the toast of lovers of good Fuji music. There was a time they even said I did not go to a tertiary institution. Well, this is another opportunity to take you journalists on an odyssey of academic background. I attended St. Mary Children School, Abokuru, Ajegunle and Amuwo-Odofin High School. Later, I studied Business Studies at The Polytechnic, Ibadan where I bagged a National Diploma in 1992. In 2001, I studied Computer Networking and Programming at American International University while in the United States. But the basic thing is to be able to read and write well. Thank God, I can read and write and I speak English language fluently. At least you can see that for yourself.”
He spoke about his role model: “My role model in life is Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister because of his maturity and evergreen composition in his heydays despite hordes of propaganda hurled at his personality by his adversaries.''
While he did not deny hitting a goldmine with his previous three-in-one work, Endorsement, reputed to be the best-selling Fuji music album ever, he revealed his earnings and what he did with it this way: “It fetched me millions of naira and it is one of the highest I've earned as royalty on an album as an artiste. I used the money to build the house I commissioned in Ibadan. I bought the uncompleted building for N12million and I carried out extensive renovation just to make it alluring. I spent about N50million on the building project. I bought some security doors at N800, 000 unit price and I purchased about 23 of such. So, you can see that it is not a small house. Though I won't leave Surulere where I reside, I just want to use the house to make some noise in town and tell my fans that their love for me and my band is not wasted. I have choice properties in many other places. I've just completed one in Ajao Estate. It cost me N50 million. Apart from other houses that I built in various parts of Lagos, efforts are in top gear concerning my 52-building estate project somewhere near Ikorodu. But I must confess that my fans have been wonderful. Even the Chrysler car I bought, I don't usually ride in it. You'll often see me in the Lexus SUV. And because of what the Holy Quran teaches me, I don't boast about what God has given me. I've not cruised in my Hummer SUV for more than three times; it is parked in one of my houses. I bought the car for N8.5million when a friend insisted that I must ride in some of the best cars in the world because of his love for me.”
Apart from being a musician, Osupa has had a fairly impressive outing in the movie scene with blockbusters like Agbere Oju and Eni Eleni among many others. His romance with the theatre according to him preceded music career “I actually started with acting way back in 1981. My contemporaries include popular actor Sikiru Adeshina aka Arakangudu and one Awo-Aiye. I have also worked with Black Wahab aka Emulewu.
There is no gainsaying the fact that any genuine Fuji music fan will, today, have his latest four-album effort, Mr. Music, in his shelf. The philosophical albums with edifying lyrics, which were released on the stable of Lati Alagbada Records in October last year, have reportedly sold millions of copies. Perhaps this accounts for his ever-rising popularity among lovers of the genre. Hence, he has continued to take his “musical crusades” to every nook and cranny of the country.
It was a huge success story when he stormed Campos area of Lagos in November last year. The crowd was simply unprecedented as people gathered to listen to “good music.”
For four consecutive times in a month, late last year, he was the main man in Mushin, a Lagos community that used to be the exclusive stronghold of Pasuma. The shows included Mushin Day, and the marriage ceremony of the Olu of Mushin, Oba Fatai Aileru, was the last. His performance, till today, has left no one in doubt about his towering influence in the genre. And it underpins the fact that Fuji music lovers now go for the sensible among songs.
Just in November last year, he was the sole choice of members of the Music Advertisement Association of Nigeria (MAAN) when they stepped out in colour to celebrate their anniversary at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
But how does he rehearse with his band men? Hear Sunday Oluperi, his gifted lead drummer who recently bagged the Drummer of the Year 2009 from the Yoruba Music and Films Association (YOMAFA): “My oga is a genius. Most songs come to him on stage with ease.”
Perhaps the fact that Osupa won the Best Fuji Musician of the Year award from the same body affirms it that he is really on top of the game, and incontrovertibly, that he has raised the bar in the genre.

The war in the music house of Fuji, if there is anything to go by in recent times, has taken an interesting dimension.The principal actors, Saheed Osupa who was crowned King of Music by Alhaji Ayinde Barrister and Wasiu Alabi Pasuma who was crowned Otunba of Fuji music by K1, have been the focus of the feud. In this exclusive interview with www.nigeriafilms.com, he speaks about his background, the feud, his controversial nature, his relationship with K1, Pasuma, Kollington and Ayinde Barrister. Tell us about yourself?

I am Saheed Okunola. I was born 37 years ago in Laniba Compound Ayeye, Ibadan, Oyo State. I attended Saint Mary's Primary School, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos. I had my Secondary education at Amuwo Odofin High School, Mile 2,Lagos that I completed in 1987. I later proceeded to the Polytechnic Ibadan where I studied Business Administration for three years. When I travelled to the United States of America, I studied Networking Operations and a bit of programming. I also got some knowledge on Computer Repairs at Manhattan, New York Centre of American International College.


How did you get to the United States of America?

I was dating a babe who won the Immigration Visa Lottery to the United States. So I accompanied her as her husband.


How did you get into music?

Music runs in the family. My father was a Were music artiste. He was known as Moshood Ajiwere Layeye. He and two others known as Wasiu Anifowoshe Adakeja and Dauda Epo Akara were prominent Were music artistes. My father was an elder cousin to Alhaji Ayinde Barrister. When I wanted to start my father discouraged me but I took advantage of the fact that I didn't live with him and I started singing. I also have an elder brother called Negro who used to sing like K1. He was not creative but he was talented. All these got me interested in music. I eventually started my professional career in 1983.

How old are you now?

I am 37 years old.

What is responsible for your controversial nature?

A lot of people are of the opinion that I am controversial. Had I had not gone into music, I would have become a Human Rights Activist. I don't like it when people are cheated upon and I will never cheat upon anyone. I can overlook some attitude but once I discover the person wants to make it a routine then I will rebuff and I will not accept such things. This is my idiosyncratic attitude and the negative side of me.

Based on this a lot of people are of the opinion that I am stubborn. It is my nature not that I believe in controversy or that I am controversial. If I keep expressing it and the person involved would not change then I would let the world know what the person is doing.

How many albums have you released since 1983?

I have released over 20 albums. I have “Fuji Fadisco” as my debut album, others include “Fuji Blues”, “Fuji Demonstration”, “Stainless”, “Master Blaster”, “Shovel Solo”, “Shovel Solo II”, “Unbeatable”, “Advice”, “Reliable”, “Respect”, “London Delight”, “Champion”, “African Delight” amongst others.

Why is it that controversial issues and stories always surround you?

This can simply be attributed to the fact that once upon a time I was not known to have issues with anyone. But since I came to limelight there has been nothing else but that. I have a forbearing spirit but once I discover that it is getting out of hands I will definitely talk. I give to everyone what is due to them.

What is the cause of the war in the house of Fuji?

The cause of the war in the house of Fuji is that honour is not given to whom it is due. The fight for supremacy has been the major cause of the war. If I am superior
to any Fuji artiste and it is general knowledge than it should be accepted by everyone in good faith.

Initially myself and Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and a few others were regarded as artistes in the same category. But because of good promoters a sort of contest set in. Sequel to this individual abilities would be used as yardstick to judge the abilities of the artistes. Maybe Pasuma felt that judging by ability would not favour him, he then created a means to upgrade his status as a superiorartiste. When I travelled to the United States and while I was there I heard Alabi Pasuma had been
made the Otunba of Fuji Music artistes.

It followed that he was next to K1. But speaking on musical abilities he is not next to K1. Automatically he would proclaim himself King after K1. Based on this, I resolved not to be controversial and use my senses. About that time I started receiving calls from my fans saying that I should realise my position among Fuji
artistes. I remember asking them if Wasiu Pasuma was Otunba of Fuji Music artistes and if K1 was the King? Was there any vacant position between the King and Otunba? I was calm but I believed if my ability was worth being made King, I
would be crowned. At that time, it was believed I would never become King.

Eventually, a show was organised where Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde, Muri Alabi Thunder and I performed. Then Alhaji Barrister told me that he appreciated my music and he had copies of all my albums. He informed me that I performed like him and he foresaw a situation whereby I would be the one to keep the Flag of Fuji Music flying and that God had blessed me with lots of talent.

He said that when I took over from him I would surpass him. He told me that with the way I sing I can sustain the Fuji music, so that other genre of music will not overshadow Fuji music. He then asked me what he could do to let me be appreciated by all. My reply that day was that whatever he wished to do. He then said, “What if I honour you as the King of Music. Wasiu Ayinde K1 is the King of Fuji while you are the King of Music”. I felt happy that it was a good development for the music industry in Nigeria. I believe being the King of Music does not contend
with K1 as the King of Fuji music.

Since then I discovered Pasuma was not happy but I did not expect that because I
thought my being King of Music should not cause trouble or bitter feelings from any
quarters. It should not cause any feud but they deliberately turned it to war because they know everybody is aware that Saheed Osupa is a trouble maker.

How the whole issue affected K1 is that there was a show at Ibadan which I was
invited to. K1 also performed. I knew K1 was displeased but I did not allow that to affect me and I had no grudge against him. Though I was billed to perform the celebrant called me to tell me I would not perform at the party. While K1 was performing I went on stage to pay homage to him by prostrating and spray some money. He started singing that no one can remove his crown. Immediately I thought
in my mind that I never contended as the King of Fuji but I am the King of Music.
It was quite mind-boggling because I never elevated myself to his level but if K1 thought it was a contest then it is quite unfortunate he took it that way.

Based on the war going on in the Fuji house of music, what is your relationship with Pasuma?

I can say I don't have any grudge against Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, but now I have seen his true colours. To me he is greedy. Though I don't intend to insult him but in my opinion he is someone who believes every thing in the world should belong to him. He was crowned Otunba of Fuji, I did not contest that with him. Why is he unhappy that I was crowned the King of Music? Does he want to be Otunba of Fuji
and King of Music at the same time?

What do you say about your relationship with K1?

I think K1 is yet to understand what is happening. I don't hold any grudge against K1. I think he misunderstood what is happening, otherwise he would not have such an attitude towards me.

What about your relationship with Alhaji Kollington Ayinla?

As it applies to K1 it applies to Alhaji Kollington Ayinla. Someone must have gone to Alhaji Kollington to mislead him. King of Music is different from King of Fuji Music.
Kollington Ayinla is my father and I intend to go to him after the tension is gone to explain things to him properly. If he (Kollington) listened to my music he would have
known I have nothing against K1. I only replied him when he said his crown as King of Fuji can't be taken away from him.

How do you describe your relationship with Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister?

Alhaji Barrister is my father and it is his efforts with other Fuji artistes like Kollington Ayinla and K1 that has made Fuji music prominent today. Our relationshi is that of father and son or as you may put it Legend and Son.

What is the source of philosophical statements in your music?

I would say 70% of those proverbs and lyrics are divine inspiration. Another source of these lyrics is that I move with elders from whom I learn a lot of words of wisdom and I make use of them in my songs.

Do you write your lyrics or you sing and flow with the lyrics?

Most of my lyrics come to my senses while I perform. I can write songs when I want to perform but while I am performing live shows all I need is to start.

Lots of people raise questions based on your riches which does not reflect on your personality. For instance not many people believe you have an American Green Card, or own a Hummer Jeep or have built a mansion anywhere. What is
responsible for this?

Basically God has been responsible for this. I mean He (God) has always helped me with my finances. Whatever I desire I get it done. I will let out some things to you because of issues like this. Recently I have packed into my house at Sango Otta. I recently bought another house worth 12 million naira at Felele in Ibadan.

Why were you recently arrested by EFCC officials?

I don't want to comment on the EFCC issue. I think the issue has been resolved and
so I don't want to dwell on that.

Before they hit your head with the butt of the gun did you fight with EFCC officials?

I don't want to talk about the issue.

What is your philosophy about life?

Life to me is like a stage where we are expected to act as artistes. But some people overreact, I mean they do things which are not in the script and some even add to the dialogue in the script. If a lot of people were contented with what God has directed us to do, then the world would have been a better place to live.

How do you relax despite your music and movie production engagements?

I must confess that I hardly rest especially now that the issue of controversy over kingship in the house of Fuji has started. I perform seven days a week.

Can we say the controversy has brought you good fortunes?

I must confess to you that the controversy has triggered my elevation. I have done lots of things from what I earned through the controversy. I was able to raise money to put finishing touches on my Sango Otta house and what I earned from the controversy helped me to acquire my new property at Ibadan. If I ask any promoter for 30 million naira, I will get it. I am such a person that God blessed me through misunderstanding or controversial issues. But I don't foment trouble because of this. The more people antagonise me, the more the blessings I receive. I can say the more people curse me unjustly, the more blessings I receive from God.

What is responsible for this?

That is the way God created me.

In the course of the present controversy how many live recorded albums have
you released?

I have done over hundreds of recorded live shows. Sometimes I perform in the afternoon and at night. Sometimes I perform for three or four hours. The least sale I have recorded is 100,000 copies.

Do you wish there should be a round table whereby all aggrieved parties will be called together and the issue will be amicably resolved?

I cannot say because I make money from the controversy, so the feud should continue. I wouldn't mind if the issue is to be resolved amicably. It should be based on the fact that K1 is the King of Fuji Music, Saheed Osupa is the King of Music, while Wasiu Alabi Pasuma is the Otunba of all Fuji artistes.

But I don't want any trouble. I don't want that my right be given to someone else. I will not take that. I am only after my rightful place and title in the Fuji Music Industry,
not the money. If I don't do this, posterity will not forgive me. Fela is celebrated by the world today because he did all he did while alive.

What makes you happy?

I am happy because I am earning the fruit of my labour.

How do you want to pay back to the society?

I am planning towards that. I am presently putting up a structure that will be for charity purpose. I will source for donations but my input will be more. Its head office will be in Lagos with branches all over the world. It will be known as King Saheed Osupa Foundation.

Advice for up-coming Fuji artistes?

They must be hard working.

How many awards do you have to your credit?

I am not an award freak though I have some. But the way awards are handled abroad is not the way we go about giving awards in Nigeria. Most awards in Nigeria obviously lack good reasoning and public opinion.

What would you love to be remembered for?

I would love to be remembered as the artiste with the most philosophical lyrics in his music. I want my music to be a reference point and solution to every problem.

What do you say about allegations of insulting Pasuma's mother in your music?

People are just misquoting me. It is like someone calling me a pick pocket whereas the person is an armed robber. In that case when I reply that the person is an armed robber the issue gets messy. He claimed that I possess charms and answered that his mother got him the charms he uses. I did not insult his mother.
His action brought about my reaction.

In Islam, it is also believed that Prophet Moh'd (S.A.W) is the last prophet with the complete message of salvation and also that Islam is the only way to God, Quoting from the Qur'an:9:33 "He has sent His Messenger (Muhammad) with guidance and the Religion of Truth (Islam) to make it superior over all religions, Qur'an 3:85 "If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (Surrender), never will it be accepted of him,and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers."

How are u sure that you are on the right path?
what makes you think what you believe is the truth?
what if you get to Heaven and realized what you believed is not the way?

Wht if you are not covered with the blood of Jesus?
what if Islam is not the way?

Saheed osupa is the best selling fuji artist since 2008 till date,

he sold 1 million copy of his Mr.music album in d first week of its release at the rate of 500naira per copy,

as i said earlier,we try to book him for a show, but to my surprise the whole date has been booked till October 16, like two months before d date, and he collected 1.5m, if he collect d same for the other two months show 4 our date, 1.5m x 60 days and many more to come, enough money spray on d show, after show,they sell Cds of every days shows, ha ha RND and HIp Hop go die to make such cash

They even Go to 2 ,3 shows a day sometimes, i dont no of other artist nw, but i can bet that saheed has show from till February next year

The Voting System Design Competition is the selected competition for this year. The first place winner is awarded a $1000 cash prize, second place winner receives $500 cash, third place winner receives $250 cash, with other five $50 cash prizes to be won.

Winning designs would be publicized and the aim is to bring the dialogue of efficient electoral processes back to public discussion, as well as showing workable ideas (with the Nigerian situation in mind) to the Nigerian government. Purpose: The goal of the competition is to design an electoral voting system that is workable in Nigeria. How to Apply:
Download the form from www.braingainnigeria.org . Completed forms should be submitted with a not more than ten page (typewritten, double spaced) report detailing the idea, the design and diagrams (where available). Diagrams could be hand drawn, scanned and sent with the final attachment or de- signed using any CAD software. Deadline for submission is 12midnight (Nigerian time) of 31st August 2010. The ten short-listed candidates will be notified by September 10th 2010. .
