lawmakers sot down a bill that would have banned semi-automatic 'assault' weapons such as the AR-15 used in the Parkland school massacre. However, they did agree to raise the legal age for purchasing a firearm to 21 as well as approve legislation that would give teachers the right to carry guns in school. The amendments were introduced as part of a packaged set of bills following Nikolas Cruz's shooting spree that left 17 students and faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School dead on Valentine's Day. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5439193/Florida-Senate-rejects-ban-assault-weapons.html Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Gun retailers as large as Walmart are nearly sold out of every type of firearm, including semi-automatic rifles like the one that 20-year-old Adam Lanza used to kill 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary school. Demand for firearms has exploded in the U.S., wiping store shelves clean of guns and ammo in nearly every town, city and state since the school shooting in Connecticut and ensuing calls for stricter gun laws. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2251461/Walmart-sells-guns-Americans-rush-stockpile-weapons-aftermath-Sandy-Hook.html

The phones at gun shops across the country are ringing off the hook. Demand for firearms, ammunition and bulletproof gear has surged since the December 14 massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, that took the lives of 20 school children and six teachers and administrators. The shooting sparked calls for tighter gun control measures, especially for military-style assault weapons like the ones used in Newtown and in the Aurora, Colorado, movie theater shooting earlier this year. The prospect of a possible weapons ban has sent gun enthusiasts into a panic and sparked a frenzy of buying at stores and gun dealers nationwide.
