They worked at it throughout the afternoon after he was declared dead.

The Auto section is plagued with all kinds of maladies and it did not start today or this year. Half truths,false documentation,fraudulent adverts,fake customs documents, and shifty characters abound.
I stopped posting here when it became a process of banging your head on a brick wall and I wouldn't have known of this thread if a poster hadn't tagged my moniker.
The government has banned the importation of vehicles through the land borders and the customs have closed down all vehicle seats at the borders yet on this section we still find dealers advertising vehicles from Coutonu through Idi Iroko and Seme borders boldly. These vehicles can NEVER have genuine documents,yet people patronize these dealers probably out of ignorance or probably due to trying to cut corners.
I hope you guys can keep this up. All fraudsters on this section should be named and shamed.

Selling that car without telling the buyer the minor crash on the history is fraud.

When you disclose the history to buyers and they still willing to buy, then no issue.

I saw this happened twice on some threads. The seller had to put up a weak defence. I was shocked.

Now, how do these guys discover the true situation of the said car upon seeing the images alone?

Thanks explorer for bringing this up. It is not only on nairaland that this is happening but in Nigeria as a whole. I will advice every potential buyer to do a background check before buying any vehicle. Imagine a situation where the airbag should deploy and safe someone's life and did not because it was not replaced after the previous accident. I did a background check on a vehicle only to discovered it was reported stolen in the US. Some will even rollover upto 100k miles on the odometer. Nigerians and greed

Selling a car based on false info is really bad. And there is no excuse for that.

as a buyer, you have the right to request vin of what you are buying and run checks on the history. a lot of guides on steps to buy a car are availble on and off nairaland.

you can use the results of your checks as a bargaining chip to get better prices off the seller.

Imagine a rollover 2008 camry with deployed airbags, damaged frame, smashed windshields but replaced.

Now going for 2.9m last.

This damage is not that bad if buyers are aware.

Only need to change front/rear bumpers, side mirrors and little touch on the body.


Not that bad, but is unfair selling it as clean title or accident free.


Disclose to your buyers.

Accident free can be expensive, but some will tell you accident free, first body, clean title and the cars have rolled over and over.


Why not just let them know?


The history of the car below here is not bad, i will buy it if i can afford.

Some of his cars have crashed(minor), but he gives details in pictures right from the point of purchase, foreign soil to the stand here in Nigeria.

Some nairalanders even commends him.

Disclose every detail to your buyers.


I wish Nairaland and Mods can make it compulsory for car sellers here to always post the VIN of the cars they're selling.

As a car dealer, i think your clients have the right to know about everything you know about the car you're selling to them.


Some of these cars were posted here on Nairaland accident free untill some guys started running the lot number/VIN


Most time, some dealers claim clean title cars are too expensive, that's why they go for cars with minor crashes.


I agree, clean title cars are expensive, but some of these dealers will still brand the accidented cars to be accident free cars, selling it thesame price with clean title.


Imagine a seriouly wrecked 2007 camry SE going for 3.4m, maybe asking price.



Sometimes is not about the money or price, but the disclosure, the transparency, let your customers no what they're buying.


If you tell them and don't buy, others will buy.


Minor accidents or major accidents, tell your clients.


Then, some of these dealers on Nairaland are middle men/salesmen, they advertise and sell cars for people without knowing much about the history of what they're posting or selling.

Three years ago my brother was a victim, bought a Toks 2009 camry XLE from a dealership in Akure, 3.1m


3months later car started showing itself, today not engine starting, tomorrow A.C. not working, next tomorrow power steering, next oil leakage, overheating, fuel pump, next braking system, or wiring problems, just within 10months of purchase.

They were working on the electronics one day when one of the tech guys run the VIN, you wont believe the history.

The accident must have claimed lives, it was non-repairable.

But maybe with magic they repaired and my brother bought it.

We went back to the dealer to ask him about the history.

He was still claiming accident free until we show him the pictures, he started giving excuses that it was a mistake.


But thank God today, he has nothing on his stand.


My bro used the car for 1 year and about 3months, sold it to his mechanic for 900k




The present condition of a car is important, as long as it's working fine, but the history is important as well.


Please disclose history of your cars to your buyers, customers right from Nairaland.




Not until they come for physical inspection, like one of the posters of these cars said yesterday.


You didn't disclose the history here, but you will disclose the accident the car involved when buyers come for physical inspection, when you're smelling money, that's when you will now tell them that the cars had accidents and show them the pictures.

I advice buyers to always ask for VIN and run it before any negotiation, if they're ok with the history, go for it.
