pragmatist_m: @Eyesulo, I hope you are still coming up with the solution for those of us without a car. I really want to learn this December. Though my car is on its way, I cant bring it. So if you can bring up a solution to that, even if it requires that I will pay a token, I don't mind.
I can work something out with a friend's car. Call my no up let's discuss the details. Cheers

It's Day 5- final day

Teaching people to drive has been my passion for years now, that explains why i offered the free driving lessons. Today, i rounded up with one of my students for the free driving lessons.

From Ikosi-Ketu, we drove up CMD road past NEPA went under the Berger link bridge to Marwa Gardens area and back. My student got a grip of the balance of the clutch and throttle better thus having little or no "jerky" starts and stops. I am confident he's ready to face Lagos roads with the type of calmness he displayed as he flowed with the traffic...

Above all, this has been one successful project...no cars disappeared, no crashes, no injuries...nothing...only: needed skills learnt, lasting relationships built and God glorified!

chegson: I doubt the sincerity of this type of offer. How does the op expect the trainee to get to the venue of training and back home with his/her car? Or may be the training is going to be conducted online or through correspondence. The op needs to shed more light on the offer.
Feel free to ask Hariyoh. Thank you

Even if i buy a new car today, i will not need you to teach me how to drive cos i don't know you.
Even if you go and pay your hard-earned money in a driving school you still won't know your instructor until the d-school assigns someone to teach you. Usually, people don't know who will teach them to drive till they are ready to learn and everything is set. This is one ignorant poster.

My insistence on people having a car to learn with is because then they can practice on their own and master the skills taught before the next class. Anyone who has a car gets along quicker than the one who doesn't. So many have paid heavily in driving schools and still can't drive themselves partly because of this.

Lessons on Day 4 just ended.
I'm proud of Hariyoh's progress. He has just one last contact session and he's good to go, whatever is left are things you learn from personal discovery-the rudiments are almost complete.
Hariyoh, pls if there's anything you have benefitted from this gesture, pls feel free to post it and don't forget to thank Mr Seun and our kind mods for making it possible.

Day 3
It's now three lessons with my first student. He's done brilliantly with his pedals(btw we're learning with a manual transmission). He's a typical student who has had some training in the basics, he only needed someone to help out with his confidence on the road and just a little bit more. The car doesn't go off as often anymore. I'm impressed with his progress. We've travelled a distance of about the length of the 3rd mainland bridge in a busy neighbourhood. He started shifting into the second gear today. No hassles at all. In 2more hours of my supervision, i believe he will be able to take his family to church, take them out to have a good time this christmas without any reason to fear.

There are still five slots for the free offer.
I have grouped a category of intended learners within Ketu, Ojota, Iyana Oworo, Maryland areas together and allocated time slots to them. The other regions also have groupings as well.
I have received text messages from unemployed graduates who genuinely need this skill but can't afford to get a car, I'm imploring these ones to be patient, hopefully those who are benefitting from this gesture now will support us in putting the available cars to in good working order for our use.

Na wa o! I offered to give free driving lessons and I ask people to provide the cars they want to use suddenly I have become a potential car thief or ritualist. Should I teach you for free and bear all the risk of your learning also?

yeah you are right and on point, this should be for people leaving close to the op.
No that's not true. I reside at Ogudu but i have students in Isolo at the moment. Thanks for your thoughtfulness about what it'll cost me to get to your location but careful planning takes care of that without you having to part with your money to me.

I am happy to announce to everyone that the free driving lessons has kicked off very well and i'm happy to see people benefitting from this gesture at no cost.
God bless you all.

So we had our first lesson today.
I met Hariyoh the first time today. He called me when he saw my post the first time here. We met at a busstop somewhere at Ketu. We got to work quickly. Lesson time was just an hour. He showed me the skills he'd learnt before and i gave him a little support. I think he's a great student. We cruised around his neighbourhood and his grip strengthened. I believe he won't need any assistance in just 3 more lessons.
Well done Hariyoh!

Fabulous36: This is really a good one OP, but can one learn this in one week, with 20 persons how are you going to do the teaching. Are you going to hire 19 other tutors? Just thinking out loud shaa. Abeg enlighten us more. I am interested too
It's very simple madam. I didn't say you must know how to drive in one week but that you must be available to start within one week from the time i posted the offer. For those who have called, i have put them into time slots convenient for me and them. I don't lump people into a vehicle. It's one on one cos i know people have different learning curves. With my calculations we should finish with 20 people in 2weeks if some people here don't discourage them from starting. And yes i will have some kind-hearted people join me in the training. Thanks
Car Talk / Re: Free Driving Lessons For 20 People by EyesulO(m): 5:17am On Dec 10, 2013
This thread is both hilarious and serious to me as the OP.
To clear the air and stop some from discouraging all.
I am not a scam and there are no ulterior motives behind my offer.
My name is Oluseye(EyesulO in reverse). I only love to teach people to drive. I have done this right from my third year at the University of Lagos. I don't need to know your house to teach you to drive. In fact, i don't want to know your house. We will meet only at public places. I love my own life too. Borrow a car, rent a car...do anything...i'll impart the skill and leave you with it. I have done this for eight years now and neither I nor my students has a record of a crash till date- that's the God-factor in my trainings.
I don't own a driving school like some posters have said, so i am not advertising. People, i am only passionate about drivers' training.
I believe drivers' training should be delivered by knowledgeable trainers not touts or jobless people.
I believe drivers' training don't have to be in rickety Volkswagen beetle cars but in fully functional cars that prepare you for reality.
I believe drivers' training can and should be done with automatic drives and not just the manual one.
I believe learners should be treated with respect and given the value they paid for.
Can i have 20 people who want to know how to drive?
I'll see to those who don't have cars later. God bless Nairaland.

Hello everyone,
It's amazing what responses my sincere post has generated (i didn't even know it will even make frontpage!). I'll like my skeptics and critics to see the previous topics i've posted, they say a little bit about where i am coming from. I won't try to answer all our questions here. I'll only appreciate those who've called to find out the genuineness of this gesture and to let us know i will be taking my first random student tomorrow(i don't even know this person from anywhere), and we will update this thread with pictures and appreciation to the nairaland team for making this possible for somebody.

3. You reside in Lagos.
4. You will come back to this thread and post your progress and appreciation to the mods for making this post visible for all to see.
Send me an sms on 08124079748 convincing me of your need to know to drive. Cheers

In any case, look out for my post within the next few hours, i'll be offering free driving lessons for a number of people though there will be conditions to be met.

It is now eight years since I discovered my passion in teaching people to drive even when i was in school studying one of the sciences. I have taught a handful of people who are now confident drivers. Till now i am still not confident to tell people that is what i really want to do, because it seems like one of the many "dirty" jobs. I see myself doing it anyway. Are there people in my shoes?
Car Talk / Re: Who Taught You How To Drive? Was The Person Strict by EyesulO(m): 7:59pm On Dec 02, 2013
It's very funny reading some of the post here. I appreciate those who starting driving with very little assistance. Having taught nothing less than 30 people(i love teaching people to drive) to drive. I understand how difficult it is for some to overcome their fear of getting on the road. However, i will encourage anyone who is still trying to brace up...there's really nothing to be afraid of if you have a patient and resourceful trainer. I had fears too when i first started...it's double trouble when you have an impatient trainer on top of that...
Romance / Re: I’m Pregnant For My Cousin Again, After 2 Abortions by EyesulO(m): 7:28pm On Oct 12, 2013
My dear, sadly, you are far gone in the wrong direction and the consequences you are now faced with- shame, confusion, sadness, the risk of permanent damage to your health or premature death quietly strengthened each time you refused to stop having sex with your cousin. Sincerely, my heart is pained as I read your sad story and imagine what you might be going through. But thank God there's hope for you if you'll now start to make these right choices. First, don't ever think of an abortion,it's a trap of the devil for a lifetime of sorrow far worse than if you keep the child and allow God make him or her a proof of His power and willingness to forgive all who come to Him in repentance.
Second, you must admit you've done wrong and seek the help of a counselor and mediator. I suggest you reach these nos: 08037178963, 017611656. Request to speak with a counselor, I'm sure you'll find answers.
All my best wishes!
