The Niger Delta region has been thrown into mourning following the death of Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr.


According to Sahara Reporters, Saro-Wiwa Jr died on Tuesday, October 18.

The son of the late Ogoni activist served as an adviser to former president, Goodluck Jonathan.

His father, Ken Saro-Wiwa was a member of the Ogoni people, an ethnic minority in the Niger Delta. Due to his activism against the degradation of the land and waters of the Ogoni people by oil companies.

In 1992, Saro-Wiwa was imprisoned for several months, without trial, by the Nigerian military government. In June 1993, Saro-Wiwa was arrested again and detained by Nigerian authorities but was released after a month.

Saro-Wiwa was again arrested and accused of inciting the death of 6 Ogoni chiefs. He denied the charges but was imprisoned for over a year before being found guilty and sentenced to death by a specially convened tribunal.

On November 10 1995, he was killed along with 8 other that came to be known as the Ogoni Nine by the Gen. Sani Abacha regime.

– A Leicester City fan stabbed a Chelsea fan in Niger state

– The accused stabbed the victim because of a N500 bet


There was commotion in Niger state when a 28 year old man stabbed and injured his friend, Aliyu Saidu while they were watching Chelsea’s 3 – 0 win over Leicester City.

According to a witness who spoke to the Daily Trust, A incident happened on a viewing cenre at Unguwar Hausawa area in Madalla, Niger State.

The witness happened when Nasiru Yahaya, the accused and a Leicester City fan refused to give the victim the N500 he owed him after betting on his team to win.

The argument resulted into a fight and the accused allegedly ran to a nearby shop, carried a bottle, broke it and stabbed his friend on his hands and back.

Thereafter, the accused fled the scene when other fans tried to stop him from killing his friend but he was later arrested by vigilantes and handed over to the police.

He added that the injured victim was taken to clinic in the area for treatment. A member of a vigilante, speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed the incident.

The family of the accused went to the police station along with the family of the victim to resolve the matter after the accused had accepted to foot the bill of the injured man.

– The Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group has accused Hadiza Buhari-Bello, a daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, of fraud

– The members claim Mrs Buhari-Bello and other officials are using their brand name to raise funds for Chibok girls.

The group has released a statement on Monday, October 16, that was signed by its leaders, Aisha Yesufu and Oby Ezekwesili, reads in part:

“Following repeated enquiries from the media, we stumbled upon information of an event tagged ‘Official Inauguration and Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Chibok Girls Endowment Project’ organised by the ‘Peace Corps of Nigeria’ and ‘Africa Support and Empowerment Initiative,’ with Hadiza Buhari-Bello.

We are shocked, perplexed and completely dumbfounded to see the bold inscription of our hard-earned name, #BringBackOurGirls, on the event’s backdrop. We state categorically that we are not party to the said event and have absolutely no information of its origin.

We urge the general public to disregard attempts at linking our movement to this highly suspicious event. After 902 days of painstaking advocacy, it is disheartening and unfortunate to suddenly see attempts, by external actors, to use it for selfish purposes.

We have carefully built our reputation as a well-organised and disciplined global movement that is completely self-funded. The deliberate decision, to remain funded by sacrificial contributions of members for our very negligible needs, is the reason we are solely a Citizens’ Movement, and not an NGO.

It will be highly injurious to allow it be dragged in the mud at this point. We therefore demand an immediate retraction and unreserved apology from the organisers. Together with our lawyers, Femi Falana & Co., we are considering a response to this attempt to smear our movement.

We call on the general public and law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for unscrupulous persons who may already be/are planning similar nefarious acts to deceive the local and international community.”

Recall that he group has been at the fore-front of the campaign for the release of more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram group in Chibok, Borno state, in 2014.

Last week the country was thrown into excitement following the release of 21 Chibok girls. Boko Haram terrorists also tabled two conditions to the federal government before they can release 83 more Chibok girls.

Furious hotel guests beat man up for having noisy sex (photos)


Some angry hotel guests have kicked down a man’s door and beaten him up in the middle of the night because he was having sex too loudly.

DailymailUK reports that CCTV captured the moment a businessman called Zhang, took out his frustrations on another guest at a hotel in the city of Beihai, in China’s Guanxi southern province.

The incident happened October 13 after Zhang and a group of his colleagues had checked into the hotel ahead of a meeting the following morning. But Zhang was woken up by a couple in the other room close to his having sex loudly. He decided to call the couple to order at first but i didn’t work as he got a barrage of abuse back from the other man,Lei Mou. As the confrontation got louder, Zhang’s colleagues numbering up to 10 made their way into the corridor outside the door of Lei.

Eventually Zhang kicked down the hotel door, before dragging Lei out while punching and kicking him, and stripping him to the waist. The group were then caught on camera in the lobby where the attack continued, before police were called and split it up. Zhang eventually agreed he had over-reacted, before agreeing to pay 15,000 yuan to Lei to settle the dispute.

– Some suspected cultist have raided the Eteo community

Emerging reports suggest that suspected members of a cult group raided Eteo community in Eleme local government area of Rivers state, killing scores of people, including a pregnant woman. The raid was carried out in the night of Saturday, October 15.

Leadership reports that this is as doctors in a hospital located in the area rallied round to rescue the baby from the womb of the pregnant woman shot dead along with others by the suspected cultists.

Also, the community has become a ghost town as residents have deserted the community seeking refuge at Ogale, Alode, Alesa and Agbonchia communities, all in Eleme local government area of the state.

According to a source in the community, the gunmen came into the community and opened fire on people on sight and when the dust settled, an entire family was wiped out.

The source stated that dead pregnant woman, who was almost due for delivery before the unfortunate incident, was rushed to a nearby hospital by sympathisers, where doctors on duty operated on the woman and rescued the baby alive.

He said, “Suspected cultists have overrun the once sleepy community of Eteo-Eleme. At a swoop, an entire family, including a pregnant woman, was slaughtered.

“But the miracle in this tragedy is that the baby survived the brutal attack as the dead woman was rushed to a hospital by witnesses. The doctors rallied round and rescued the baby from the mother’s womb. This miracle child is currently under intensive medicare.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Omoni Nnamdi, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), said he was not aware of the incident.

Nnamdi however said he would contact the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of Eleme Division to get the details of the attack.

He also stressed that President Buhari respects the place of women in our society and believes in their abilities. Mr Shehu mentioned that one of Nigeria’s most sensitive office today is headed by a woman, Mrs Adeosun.
