Some members of the Nigerian Volunteer Corps, N- power , on Tuesday protested against salary delay and the continued delay by the government to post them to ministries . The protesters , who stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly complex, displayed placards with inscriptions, ‘N - power Lagos ; release our stipend ,’ and ‘Lagos State volunteers are tired of staying at home, ’ among others . One of the protesters , Mr. Felix Ayorinde, demanded the intervention of the state Assembly Speaker , Mudashiru Obasa, and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode . “ Ambode should emulate other governors that are giving additional stipend to the N - power participants apart from the salary being paid by the Federal Government,” he added . A lawmaker , Gbolahan Yishawu , who represented the Speaker , said the House would address the issues. He called the focal person for N- power in the state, who works in the Ministry for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs . Olusola Falana , to address the protesters . Falana said the programme started late due to a technical problem which was made known to the beneficiaries . “ We are working on the deployment of participants . We want you to be posted to relevant areas of your discipline, “ she said . http://punchng.com/n-power-members-protest-delay-in-posting-salaries/ 1 Like |
Politics / Arms Scam: Obanikoro’s Wife Loses Abuja Mansion To FG, APPEALS by ezana1(m): 7:40am On Mar 01, 2017 |
A Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Jabi, Abuja, has ordered that Alhaja Moroophat Obanikoro, the wife of a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, should forfeit her property pending the outcome of investigations into her husband and children. The court also rejected a prayer asking the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to pay her the sum of N200m for violating her fundamental human rights. Obanikoro’s wife has, however, headed for the Appeal Court to challenge the court judgment. As part of investigations into the $2.1bn arms scam, involving the Office of the National Security Adviser, the EFCC had traced the transfer of about N4.7bn to the Diamond Bank account of Sylvan McNamara, a company allegedly owned by Obanikoro’s two sons – Gbolahan and Babajide. Out of the N4.7bn, Obanikoro allegedly gave N3.880bn to Ayodele Fayose and Senator Iyiola Omisore in July 2014, when they were the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidates in Ekiti and Osun states respectively. Part of the money allegedly given to Fayose was said to have been converted to $5.377m and handed to him at Spotless Hotel, Ado-Ekiti, in the presence of the then Ekiti State PDP Secretary, Tope Aluko, and other party stalwarts. Obanikoro allegedly kept over N600m to himself. The EFCC subsequently seized a house in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State allegedly belonging to Obanikoro’s sons – Gbolahan and Babajide – and a property located at 44 Mamman Kotangora Crescent, Katampke Extension, Abuja, belonging to their mother. However, Obanikoro’s wife argued that she bought the property over seven years before the alleged arms scam took place. She said the EFCC had no right to punish her for any crime allegedly committed by her husband and urged the court to award her N200m. Obanikoro’s wife demanded “an order setting aside the sealing of the property; an order directing the EFCC to tender an unreserved public apology for the unlawful and unconditional invasion of the aforesaid property and the sum of N200,000,000 as general damages for the unlawful and unconstitutional invasion of the property.” In an affidavit, deposed to by one Jackson Edet, the EFCC claimed that Obanikoro’s wife could not claim to be ignorant of her husband’s alleged crime. The commission said Moroophat’s husband and her sons collected over N600m from the ONSA for a non-existent contract. The EFCC argued that investigation had shown that, “the property belongs to Musiliu Obanikoro and he paid for the statutory charges for the property.” The commission added, “That a lawyer, Tejumola Adeboye, who volunteered a statement to the commission, stated that he managed the said property and remits the rent to MON Integrated Services (a company allegedly owned by Obanikoro, which is also under probe).” In his ruling, the Justice Y. Halilu said he could not stop the EFCC from doing its work, adding that all Nigerians must unite in the fight against corruption. He added, “I shall refuse the application because it is most unmeritorious and specially packaged to deceive this court. God forbid.”

But if don't have any channel of confronting the govt or change our situation, please apply when its time or forget about it if you are comfortable already or feel insulted about the job....Y do I have these feelings you have never relieved someone burden b4, even in the smallest way. Our government is corrupt, am not singing their praises cos there are opening insulting job opportunities, but at least it will put food in someone's table where before seemed hopeless. Israeljones:. What's if they decide not to employ even one person, what will you do, this administration is the trying compared to other administration who don't care how you survive in the labour market, ya they might be underrating graduates but what would you do if there don't at all. Even as little as 30k is for some people, its means a lot in some households. living comfortable and being poor are too different experience. Nigeria had been like this since the last time I checked, always a big gap between the rich and the poor |

Jobs/Vacancies / FG To Employ Fresh 350,000 Graduates In 2017 by ezana1(m): 1:32pm On Feb 27, 2017 |
The Federal Government will employ an additional 350,000 graduates in 2017. The graduates will be employed under the N-Power Volunteer Corps, a component of the government’s Social Investment Programmes. The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. Akande said President Muhammadu Buhari had requested an appropriation of N157.75bn in the 2017 budget estimates for the N-Power scheme. “350,000 unemployed graduates more would be hired and trained, alongside 50,000 non-graduates youths to be engaged as artisans and in other creative ventures,” Akande said. He explained further that under the N157.75bn also, a sum of N4.5bn had been earmarked for science, technology, engineering and mathematics programme to support young Nigerians in building skills in those disciplines. Akande noted that the SIPs’ budget proposals for 2017 would be discussed this week at the National Assembly and urged Nigerians to expect more initiatives especially in the area of implementation as virtually all of the SIPs are now undergoing different stages of implementation. “While we were able to engage 200,000 unemployed graduates last year, we will do 350,000 more this year,” he said. He added that some of the teething problems were giving way to lessons that would enhance the implementation under the 2017 budget. He also disclosed that about N75bn had been allocated for the National Homegrown School Feeding Programme in the 2017 budget. He added that N112.2bn had been allocated to the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme aimed at providing interest-free loans to 1.2 million market men and women, artisans, youths and farmers. Under the GEEP, he explained that beneficiaries would receive between N10,000 and N100,000 loans with a one-time five per cent administrative fee. He said over 20,000 Nigerians in 14 states had benefitted from GEEP under the 2016 budget. He said the Conditional Cash Transfer which had started in nine states would be further expanded under the 2017 budget to reach more states. Akande said, “The plan in 2016 budget targeted one million poorest and vulnerable Nigerians. And in the 2017 budget, an additional N54.98bn has been allocated for the continuation of the N5,000 monthly social safety net payments to the poorest Nigerians. “2017 implementation of the SIPs is going to be far more impactful than what we were able to do under the 2016 budget. So, Nigerians should expect more this year. The resolve of the Buhari presidency is that more lives must be touched positively under these programmes which Nigerians have come to appreciate.” http://punchng.com/fg-to-employ-fresh-350000-graduates-in-2017/ |
