Politics / All Imo Flights Blacklisted Nationwide Over Attack On NLC President by FaceThem: 7:10am On Nov 09, 2023
Following the ongoing strike action declared by the organized labour, unions in the aviation industry on Wednesday directed the withdrawal of all flights to Owerri, Imo State, from all airports across the country.

DAILY POST recalls that the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), had declared a nationwide strike following the brutalization of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, in Imo last week.

In response to the directive for shutdown, the aviation unions, including the National Union Of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots And Engineers (NAAPE), in a joint statement on Wednesday, suspended flights to Imo.

The joint statement, signed by the General-Secretaries of the unions, including Comrades Ocheme Aba, NUATE, Frances Akinjole, ATSSSAN, Abdul Rasaq Saidu, ANAP and Umoh Ofonime, NAAPE, also declared Governor Hope Uzodimma persona non grata in all airports.

Parts of the statement read, “Following the escalation of the imbroglio created by the mayhem unleashed on workers by the Imo State Government of Hope Uzodimma and the continued insensitivity of the Government over the matter, and in compliance with the directive of the joint NEC session of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), the unions mentioned earlier, being affiliates of NLC and TUC, hereby direct all aviation workers (both public and private) to withdraw all services to all Owerri flights (inwards and outwards) from any airport in Nigeria with effect from midnight of 08/11/2023 (today).”

Crime / Soldiers Enforcing Curfew Kill 62-Year-Old Enugu Electrician by FaceThem: 9:17am On Aug 08, 2022

Some Soldiers enforcing a curfew imposed on two local government areas of Enugu State have reportedly killed a 62-year-old man, Joseph Uja, in Enugu Ezike.

Enugu-Ezike is in the Igbo-Eze North LGA, one of the councils affected by the 6pm to 6am curfew. The second council is Igbo-Eze South.

PUNCH Metro gathered on Sunday that the killing sparked tension around Enugu-Ezike town of Ogurute, as people feared a reprisal from community youths.

A resident, who asked not to be identified for security reasons, told our correspondent on Sunday that the soldiers mistakenly shot the victim while he passed their checkpoint.

Uja was reportedly returning from Nsukka, where he went to buy electrical materials for his customers when the incident happened.

The resident said, “Joseph Uja was killed by soldiers who were trying to deflate somebody’s tyres yesterday. Uja was from Igogoro, Enugu Ezike, Igboeze North LGA.”

Efforts to get the reaction of the Nigerian Army were unsuccessful, as neither the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, nor the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, responded to calls or text messages from our correspondent.

Also, when the state police spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, was contacted on the telephone, he did not take his calls.

Crime / Ogun: Man Attacks Okada Rider, Snatches Bike At Gunpoint by FaceThem: 8:36am On Aug 08, 2022
One Obatoki Sodiq has reportedly attacked a motorcyclist (known as okada rider), snatching his bike at gunpoint.

The bike rider, Moris Alofa, a resident of Opete village, via Ayetoro, Ogun State, reported the incident to the State Amotekun Corps in Imeko-Afon.

According to Alofa, he was on his way to Owode-Afon market, along Alagbon Meje, Obada-Idi Emi road with his unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, when he was stopped by the suspect at Alagbon Meje junction.

He was said to have met Obatoki, Sanni Ismaila and two others (now at large) at the junction.

DAILY POST gathered that the main suspect, Obatoki Sodiq, gave him N500 to help him buy soft drink from the market.

While returning, the victim met only Obatoki Sodiq at the junction as he handed the drinks over to him.

After collecting the drinks, Obatoki reportedly asked Alofa to convey him to Owode-Afon market.

“At a point while on the way, the said Obatoki asked the rider to stop for him to urinate, which he did; only for the suspect to slap him and began to struggle the key of the motorcycle with him, but he resisted,” Ogun Amotekun Commander, David Akinremi, said in a statement.

As the victim refused to let go, “Obatoki brought out a locally made pistol and pointed same at him, hence he surrendered the key of the motorcycle.”

Akinremi hinted that the suspect was later arrested by his operatives at his hideout.

The suspect was said to have admitted taking the bike to the second suspect, Sanni Ismaila at Onigo village, who hid it in a bush near the village.

“According to the suspect, three days after, two buyers bought the motorcycle for N200,000 and the proceeds were shared by them.

“Effort to apprehend the two runaway suspects is still ongoing,” Akinremi said.

Car Talk / Lagos Driver Forgets Where He Parked Vehicle After Getting Drunk by FaceThem: 5:49am On Aug 04, 2022
Officials of Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have recovered a 2014 Nissan Altima car abandoned by a drunk driver at Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos since late Saturday night.

The Driver, Samuel Lawal, 43, a resident of Magodo Estate abandoned his boss’ vehicle at Allen Avenue after getting drunk at Fela’s Shrine on Saturday night, July 30.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Lawal after dropping his boss (name withheld) at his residence in Magodo Phase 1, used the car to party around Fela Shrine, Ikeja.

It was also gathered that the suspect woke up on Sunday morning with the car key in his pocket and not knowing where he had parked the vehicle.

According to his statement to the police, "I tried looking for the car. I re-traced my steps back to African Shrine trying to ascertain if I had forgot the car there. All means to recover the vehicle proved futile. I had no alternative than to lie to my boss that I was robbed and that the vehicle had been driven away,"

The owner of the vehicle (names withheld) revealed that though he recruited Lawal about four months ago, he had never been untruthful or shady, adding that he had been a hard-working driver.

The puzzled boss decided to inform RRS after the driver became unreachable on Sunday.

The driver was picked up for questioning and the vehicle traced to Allen Avenue where it was recovered with all the side glasses wound down with a bottle of dry gin beside the driver's seat.

The driver and vehicle have been released.
