Suspected terrorists have killed two health ad hoc staff members and injured one other in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Victims identified as Shem Ishaku, 30, and Job Mark Tachio, 32, were attacked and killed while returning from duty in Zangang Community of Atakar Chiefdom on Friday, July 15.

The Third Victim, Mrs Victoria Lawrence, 38, sustained a bullet injury but she is gradually responding to treatment.

Bawa Gwazeyiet Emmanuel, the President Kaura Youth Coalition, who confirmed the incident said the victims were in charge of the distribution of mosquito nets in some communities in the local government area.

"Gunmen laid ambush on three unsuspecting persons returning from Zangang where they had distributed mosquito nets. The attack occured between Zankan and Zangang using cattles as the blockade," he said.

"This is a spoke in the wheel of peace processes being made, attacks has last occurred in March at Kagoro. Kaura Youth Coalition condemns this dastardly act and advise that everyone be vigilant especially as the height of crops increases. Also when on the road and cattles are about crossing, stop at a good distance you can see all sides clearly." he added.

A New Nigeria Peoples Party’s House of Assembly candidate, Isaac Gandu, who confirmed the incident to News Men on Sunday, said the victims were killed en route Zangang-Zankan Road after distributing mosquito nets in Zankan ward.

“The only woman in the team narrowly escaped with gunshot wounds, she is receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed facility,” he said.

The Only Bridge linking Eruwa with Lanlate town in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State has collapsed.

The Bridge collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday, July 5, as a result of heavy rainfall.

One of the residents of the area, Adejumo Ogundele, urged the state government to urgently fix the bridge.

Ogundele said: "It’s true. We saw the collapsed bridge this morning due to heavy rainfall. The bridge has been in bad condition since. We hope the state government will fix it as soon as possible, because a journey of a few minutes will now take hours with the usage of adjoining roads."

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin has directed two commissioners in the State to immediately inspect the Eruwa/Lanlate bridge.

Ogundoyin, who is an indigene of Eruwa town, said that he has directed the Commissioner for Works and Transport and his counterpart in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to immediately inspect the bridge washed away by flood in the early hours of Tuesday.

He said: "Nature was at work in my constituency. We are, however, thankful to God that it happened in the early hours of Tuesday and no life was lost.

"I have approached the State Commissioners for Works and Transport, Prof Dawud Sangodoyin and that of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Bayo Lawal and directed them to proceed on an inspection tour of the damaged bridge with a view to taking urgent action on it.

"The Damage has no doubt negatively affected the movement of our people in the two towns.

"This has even affected our students who are writing their NECO and WAEC as it is now virtually impossible to cross the stream."

A High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State, has sentenced a 40-year-old man, Badung David Dele, to death for killing his girlfriend, Nanchin Zacharias.

Dele strangled Zacharias to death in her apartment at Angwan Nasarawa Gwom, Jos North Local Government Area on February 15, 2016, for turning down his Valentine Day’s outing invitation.

Dele was convicted by Justice Christy L. Dabup of High Court No 11, on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

He was found guilty of committing culpable homicide punishable under section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.

The defendant who earlier pleaded guilty was arrested by the Nasarawa Gwom Divisional Police Headquarters, Jos.

The presiding Judge, while passing the judgement said the court relied on three issues including a self-confessional statement of the accused person, an eyewitness account and circumstantial evidence of the witnesses.

According to The Nation, Dele was said to have reached out to Nanchin apparently to settle their differences and invited her out for Valentine. The deceased reportedly declined the invitation.

A Source, close to the duo, said they had been in an intimate relationship for over four years until a misunderstanding set in shortly before the last Valentine day.

However, Nanchin allegedly felt that there was no basis for any relationship between them having parted for some time.

Dele was said to have stormed Nanchin’s apartment the following morning and demanded an explanation as to why she failed to make the outing. He reportedly grabbed her by the neck and strangled her to death after which he left the apartment and reportedly told a neighbour he met outside that he wanted to go and get some medicine for his ‘ill’ friend.

He was said to have given his phone number to the neighbour, a woman, and asked her to call him in case of any emergency.

The woman identified as Mama Joy, perceived something fishy had transpired so she proceeded to Nanchin’s room only to find her lying down on her bed unconscious.

"I called her name but she did not respond so I moved closer and I discovered that she was dead. I ran out, screaming to alert the people around. I was shocked that the boy managed to kill this girl without a gun. There was no blood on her body,” Mama Joy added.

Dele was arrested same day and after some interrogation, he confessed to have committed the crime.

A Couple, Chukwudi Micheal and Bolani Micheal have been thrown into mourning after four of their children perished in an inferno that gutted their two-bedroom apartment on Tapa Road, Oke-Oko, Isawo, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The Couple was said to be sleeping in their room with their eight-year-old daughter when the inferno started in the room where the four boys slept.

Jeremiah, their 12-year-old son died on the spot while the three others, Prayer, 18; Trust in God, 14; and Ebube, 10, sustained severe burns and were rushed to a hospital, where they died a few days later.

“After waking up, I alerted neighbours who helped me to break the windows of the boys because their door was locked. We were able to rescue three of the boys from the fire, but one had already been burnt to death. We rushed them immediately to a hospital with the help of a neighbour’s car, but we eventually lost them.”their 46-year-old father told Punch.

The distraught father noted that men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service only came in the morning when the fire had been put out by neighbours.

However, the Public Education Officer of the state fire service, Amodu Shakiru, stated that the fire was put out by firefighters, adding that five persons were rescued.

“We rescued five persons and recovered the burnt body of a teenager.”he said

The Couple say they have no idea how the fire started.

The Ekiti State Police Command has declared a 42-year-old man identified as Ibukun Olusola Olajide, Missing, Reports.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Sunday Abutu, in a statement on Tuesday July 5, said Olajide was last seen after he left his home in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, July 1, 2022, to attend a wedding in Ibadan.

"This is to inform members of the public that one Ibukun Olusola Olajide 'm' of Ogo-Oluwa, Asungbowoola Street, Afao Road, Ado Ekiti, reportedly left home to Ibadan, Oyo State, on 01/07/22 at about 4pm to attend a wedding ceremony," the statement read.

"Information received at our disposal was that he neither reached Ibadan for the wedding ceremony nor returned home while all efforts made by his relatives to know his whereabouts proved abortive.

"He is 42 year-old, chocolate in complexion, 5.6 ft tall, has no tribal mark, speaks Yoruba and English languages fluently.

"While the Command has commenced investigation into this report, anyone with useful information concerning his whereabouts should contact the nearest Police Station or call 09064050086"
