President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will not spare any member or supporter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, caught in any act of corruption. Buhari who defended his administration's style of government which has earned him the nick name Baba go slow further said in the interview with The Interviewer that members of his party that "anything is established against he will not be shielded from prosecution," even as he showered praises on former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN). Below are parts of the Buhari interview with TheInterview On Government style “There is still a lot of wisdom in the saying, ‘slow and steady wins the race.’ “If they say we are slow, do they also say we are steady? “Then, it means we will win the race eventually. “There is no wisdom in being in a rush and messing up everything. You will make avoidable mistakes and end up with a lot of regrets,”. . On Prosecution of Corrupt persons “Do you just grab people along the road and take them off to court for trial just because you want to create a semblance of balance?" Buhari said. “First, there has to be an accusation which must be properly investigated, and when a prima facie case has been built, you prosecute. “If any of my backers or party (APC) members has anything established against them, let’s see whether I will shield anyone from prosecution. “There seems to be a preponderance of the People Democratic Party members standing trial because they had been in power for 16 years, they had access to the public treasury and abused the trust reposed in them. “You can be assured that anybody caught in corruption will answer for it irrespective of party, tribe or religion. “You will recall that shortly before the 2011 presidential election, I had said it was the last time I would offer myself for elective position and I meant it, but the following years, we saw our country virtually falling apart on all fronts. “People felt a rescue exercise was necessary and a large number believed I could do it. “They made overtures to me and the pressure was so enormous that I could not say no. As they say, the rest is history. “We will note the recommendation of the Attorney General of the Federation. We do not want to deliberately disgrace people. All we want is public money back,” he explained. On Economic Realities “The economic realities demanded that we merge ministries and we did. “Putting three critical ministries under one man was determined by the ability to perform. “This is a man who had ruled a state excellently for eight years and as they say, the reward for hard work is more work,” he said. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/buhari-hails-fashola-says-wont-spare-corrupt-apc-member/ lalasticlala mynd44 |
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered banks to publish details of all foreign exchange transactions on the Financial Market Dealers Quote (FMDQ) platform. Meanwhile the naira depreciated by 1.5 percent (N4.5) at the interbank foreign exchange market for spot transactions. From N305.25 per dollar at the end of transactions on Friday, the exchange rate for spot transactions dropped rose to N309.84 per dollar at the close of business yesterday. But at the parallel market the naira remained relatively stable as the parallel market rate stood at N376 per dollar. Announcing the directive of the CBN in an email to foreign exchange dealers, Managing Director/Chief Executive FMDQ, Mr. Bola Onadele said, “Banks should “update all trades irrespective of the exchange rate. “The CBN is very interested in credible price formation for the spot foreign-exchange market. It is also imperative for price discovery and liquidity assessment of our market, which are key to activate foreign portfolio investment flows”, he said Banks should publish all their so-called “off-line trades” on its trading system “within 30 minutes of execution of such transactions,” according to a separate e-mail sent to dealers by FMDQ on the same day. The naira fell 3.9 percent, the most since the devaluation, to 305.25 on July 22, the day after Onadele’s e-mails. It rose 2.9 percent to 296.75 by 2:38 p.m. in Lagos on Monday. Nigeria has struggled to attract foreign money into its bond and equity markets since devaluing the naira by 30 percent on June 20, ending a 16-month peg of 197-199 per dollar, with investors concerned the central bank was still controlling the exchange rate. FMDQ started operations in 2013 and is chaired by Sarah Alade, deputy governor of the CBN. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/appreciating-president-buharis-model-community-policing/ cc lalasticlala mynd44 |
