The crisis pummeling the Ekiti chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, worsened on Sunday as the party in Oye local government area suspended a former lawmaker, Hon. Samuel Omotoso from the party. He was suspended from the party for alleged anti-party activities. Omotoso, a close ally of former Governor Ayodele Fayose, is a medical doctor and one of the lawmakers suspended indefinitely from the 5th assembly for sundry offences, shortly after Governor Kayode Fayemi took over last year. In the 5th assembly, Omotoso represented Oye constituency 1 at the Ekiti State House of Assembly. In a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti by the party, Omotosho was suspended for allegedly engineering parallel PDP executive in Oye local government area. The letter conveying the suspension of the former lawmaker was unanimously signed by executives of PDP in Oye local government and chairmen of the 11 wards in the council. According to the statement, “the party has consequently constituted 3- man committee in strict adherence to the party’s constitution to investigate the allegation’. “The committee is to conduct unbiased investigation and make necessary recommendations within two weeks on the allegation'”. The party leaders, however, passed vote of confidence on the PDP chairman in Oye local government, Mr Sunday Ojo, saying the era of imposition was over. When contacted, Omotoso, former chairman, Ekiti Assembly Committee on Information, said the suspension was child’s play, describing those behind it as jesters. Omotosho noted that the leader of the group, who claimed to be chairman of the party at the local government level, was already on suspension by the State Working Committee of the party and has no statutory powers to suspend him. “I want you to ignore the group as they were only seeking for relevance. The sponsor has been suspended by the most powerful political organisation in Ekiti’, the SWC, so I don’t know where he got that power from,” he said. The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has condemned the arrest of Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services (DSS) ahead of Monday’s revolution protest. In a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director, Miss. Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA said: “This is reminiscent of the dictatorial style if the diabolical military dictatorship of General Sani Abacha which is totally not in consonance with the principle and practice of constitutional democracy”. Sowore, the Publisher of Sahara Reporters and founder of the African Action Congress (AAC), was arrested by DSS operatives on Saturday. HURIWA lamented that the Buhari administration has embarked on deliberate stiffling of the civilians. It also accused the DSS of illegally bugging telephones of prominent civil rights leaders including leaders of HURIWA. According to HURIWA: “It is an undeniable fact that civic space is the bedrock and the fundamental of any open and democratic government which is guaranteed under the chapter four of the Nigerian constitution of 1999 (as amended); all other global human rights conventions and laws do also support the fundamental freedoms as espoused in chapter 4 of the constitution. “May we remind president Buhari that his attacks against those fundamental freedoms constitute grave threats to democracy because when civic space is open, citizenry and civic society platforms are then able to organize, participate and communicate without hindrance or impediments that the open threats to lives and freedoms of the practitioners have now become. “This can only be the case if government is compelled to discharge her obligations to the citizenry. The freedoms of association; peaceful assembly and expression are no doubt the strategic elements of an open civic space. These critical elements are systematically put under attacks by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and unfortunately, the free World is watching as constitutional democracy is about to collapse in Nigeria. “Does anyone in this government benefit from these killings by all kinds of armed freelance killers and bandits so much so that the government is afraid of street protests to condemn these killings?” read more: http://www.ovasnews.tk/2019/08/sowore-buhari-accused-of-acting-like.html

The list includes Wizkid, Davido, Tekno, Tiwa Savage and other acts. Nigeria might be the poverty capital of the world, but we still consume copious amounts of data. Yes, YouTube numbers of our major artists are not as impressive as that of some of their western or latin counterparts, but some still have good numbers. Due to one thing, YouTube numbers are now more important than they were; YouTube content monetization - Creators now get paid for their content. That’s why it is worth celebrating that Yemi Alade hit one million subscribers and Davido hit 500 million in total views. On the matter of subscribers, here are the most followed Nigerian artists on YouTube as of August 10) Tiwa Savage Subscriber: 401,238 subscriber Nonetheless, her fans appreciate her. Her numbers on YouTube are not to be messed with. Her most watched video, ‘Ma Lo’featuring Wizkid and Spellz has been streamed over 38 million times on YouTube. Her 2017 smash hit, ‘All Over’ has also been streamed more than 30 million times. 9) Runtown Subscribers: 407,625 In 2016, the singer had what was possibly the biggest African song. He was crooning, but had to slow down after roadblocks blocked his ascension. The smash hit, 'Mad Over You' has been viewed more than 91 million times on YouTube. 8.) Olamide Subscribers: 451,893 subscribers The modern king of the streets is slowly hitting veteran status. After seven albums and one collaboration album with Phyno, he deserves some break. Nonetheless, with two songs and one other collaboration, he boasts of three videos that have passed the million mark. His most viewed video remains the 2016 mega-hit, ‘Wo,’ has more than 26 million views on YouTube. 7) Burna Boy Subscribers: 452,695 subscribers He launched, he got fans, then he soiled his hands in infamy. But now, he’s back churning out quality songs and albums. There is no stopping him. His equal parts love, equal parts unbridled lewd talk single, ‘On The Low,’ has been watched over 40 million times on YouTube. 6) Mr Eazi Subscribers: 608,972 The Nigerian artist most likely to hit a billion self-made dollars, the man has been waxing stronger, using his music as a canvas on which to writer a timeless story. Born Tosin Ajibade, his most viewed video on YouTube is ‘Leg Over.’ 5) Wizkid Subscribers: 839,920 Wizkid is arguably the greatest Nigerian act of his generation. His claim might even threaten to have Africa in its grasp. What we can’t debate is his impact as an artist. After launching on to the scene with smash hit, ‘Holla At Your Boy’ and his classic debut album, Superstar, he had an unprecedented three-year run - from 2011 - 2013 - where everything he touched turned to gold. This culminated in featuring on Drake’s 2016 chart topper, ‘One Dance.’ Since then, he has worked with a lot of foreign acts. 4) Yemi Alade Subscribers: 1,025,167 Some will deem it arguable, but it’s not. Yemi Alade is the modern day, premier African female act. She had been bubbling under before, but her single, ‘Johnny’ which now has over 100 million views on YouTube was her claim to fame. A few weeks ago, she was celebrated for hitting the one million subscriber milestone. 3) Tekno Subscribers: 1,081,783 This might be a bit surprising to a few Nigerians, but facts are facts. After his 2016 run where he had five hits back-to-back within 12 months, Nigerians should learn not to underrate this man. A few weeks ago, he was one of the few Nigerians to feature on Beyonce’s The Lion King: The Gift album. While the multi-talented musician and performer has slightly slowed down, the checks must still be rolling in. 2) P Square Subscribers: 1,254,483 Although now separated, brothers Peter and Paul Okoye otherwise known as P Square got divided by what many can’t confirm. At the height of their reign, they are not just the top music acts from Africa, they had legitimate claim to be named the top African acts. With performances brimming with boundless energy and impeccable vocal capabilities, they serenaded women with love songs and men with their artistry. When P Square had YouTube videos with 20 million views, most Nigerian acts were struggling to hit one million. 1) Davido Subscribers: 1,654,586 In 2010, a precocious 18-year-old literally jumped onto the scene with a Naeto C feature on a single, titled, ‘Back When.’ Since then, hits have fought to displace one another, accolades keep rolling in and so is acclaim. With his status as an act with incredible success comes following. He tops this list as the Nigerian act with the most subscribers. One could wager that his numbers skyrocketed after his unprecedented 2017 run. Read more: https://www.ovasnews.tk/2019/08/here-are-10-most-followed-nigerian.html?m=1

Two robbery suspects, who allegedly specialised in drugging taxi drivers operating at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, before stealing their vehicles, have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT). A source said the suspects identified as Sanusi Balla and Nurudeen Ibrahim, ran into trouble when they drugged and killed a soldier, Sergeant Richard Akaeze, and stole his Peugeot 406 saloon car. The source said the suspects, who normally tricked their victims to drinking joints around the FCT, where they would have their drinks or food drugged before leaving with their vehicles, made a mistake when they met Sergeant Akaeze and gave him an overdose of a drug that killed him. The suspects were said to have buried him hurriedly in a yet-to-be disclosed site and his phones and car, which he was using for taxi, were stolen. When Inspector-General of Police Adamu Mohammed was alerted about Akaeze’s disappearance by his colleagues in the Army, a few days after he failed to return from his taxi’s business, the IRT operatives headed by Abba Kyari were directed to investigate and unravel the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. It was gathered that Akaeze’s stolen phone was tracked when the operatives began investigation and it was discovered that it was used by one of the suspects, Balla, who owned a car stand in Kaura Local Government Area of Zamfara State and was equally a worker (clerk) at the local government secretariat. Balla, who confessed after his arrest that his friend, Ibrahim, who he said is based in Abuja, gave him the phone when he brought a Peugeot 406 for him to buy, said he didn’t buy the vehicle because he had no money at that time. Balla said besides his car selling business and local government job, he had taken part in several car thefts with Ibrahim at the FCT where they drugged their victims before stealing their vehicles. But he said he didn’t take part in the operation in which Ibrahim drugged and killed the late soldier, stole his vehicle and his phone found on him. A source said Balla aided the police in arresting Ibrahim in Abuja, but he denied meeting, drugging or killing Sergeant Akaeze when he was interrogated. He, however, admitted that he was in the business of drugging and stealing from unsuspecting taxi drivers operating in the FCT and his targets were greedy taxi drivers, who have uncontrollable appetite for free drinks. read more: https://www.ovasnews.tk/2019/08/suspects-who-drug-victims-before.html
