If you like carry over the course and get an A, it won't change anything rather it gives you more load just like what this Uncle pointed out.. It reduces your chances of getting high grade point that semester. D is better than F, except you don't know how CGPA is been calculated. PERIOD

there's no certainty, it is entirely up to the student to determine the outcome. But what is certain is, he / she is getting a 2nd chance to do it. What the student does with the 2nd Chance is on the student and it's the student that will reap the reward or consequences

It's not better pls. Let's say someone had F in a 3unit course. Then, it will be 0points (out of 15)/3.

If he now rewrites it, say he got A, then the calculation will go thus...(0) + (15)/3=. What this means is that, 15 point is lost from the previous Cgpa calculation...i.e 0/3 in that course unit which will drastically suck your Cgpa for that semester... due to the increased number of load unit with nill points added. It's like adding 0 to the previous 4.5cgpa (e.g 135 + 0/ 30 +3) and dividing after 3load unit is added..(135/33)= 4.09.

Rewriting it simply means you're registering for another course unit.

If it was D or E, it means you either scored 6 or 3 out of the possible 15 (instead of 0 for F)... for that same semester.

Getting F will have done the harm already just before rewriting it....if you like gets 5As, the first would still have affected the current Cgpa just before rewriting it. I hope you understand. The higher the credit load units, the more risky your Cgpa becomes.


What the Op is insinuating is only feasible if the failed course can actually be removed... which is however not possible or when you get As in more of other courses you will be offering.
Those who understand what it means to go around campuses with calculator just for the sake of CGPA can well, relate with my points.

A D or E grade supercedes an F anytime any day.

Reason; When you fail a course (F), you carry over the course to another session and you credit load increases. The effect of this increase keeps reducing your CGPA till you graduate.

Take for e.g., after your 100level, your total credit load =97. You failed a 3 unit course and this automatically becomes 100.

Credit load for 200level alone =95. Total credit load after 200level will be 192 for others while yours is 195.

Let's say after 200level, you earn a total point of 600. Your CGPA =600/195 which gives 3.08. This should have been 600/192= 3.12, if you haven't had any carry over.

Yes based on this logic, F is better since it gives you the opportunity to recover. But mind you, you get to pay for the extra year. But the best one is W. Your grades won't be affected at all. And you can still resit the course later
