CelebritiesMercy Johnson And Tonto Dike's Fight Gets Messier by fasayoblog(op): 9:21am On Dec 21, 2011
It is no news that there has been a bitter war going on between two top Nollywood’s actresses, Tonto Dikeh and Mercy Johnson Okojie, but what might be news is the fact the fight has got messier and has no thin hope of both actresses settling their differences very soon.
The misunderstanding has been lingering on for a very long time now. Though there have been initial efforts in settling the rifts between the two thespians, but they have not yielded any meaning result.

It was no surprise that Tonto didn’t attend the much talked about and controversial wedding of Mercy Johnson to Prince Okojie earlier in the year. Many believed that Tonto wouldn’t have attended the wedding for anything in this world even if she was totally less busy that day.
The two screen idols don’t see eye to eye on locations, events, or any public place. It is still a Herculean task for producers bringing the two to work on a movie project again, which some believe would be like putting both sea and ocean waters together in a bottle or like telling Jesus Christ to bow to Satan.

The main reason for the fight, which has different versions from different camps, is still very shady. But unconfirmed gist has it that they both fell out due to some superiority based differences. Also is the gist that it is for the usual fight over who owns what.

In a recent interview with NigeriaFilms.Com, Tonto talked about her good relationship with all her colleagues in the industry. But when asked about her relationship with Mercy Johnson, her countenance changed to a furious one like a wounded lion. She also threatened to stop the interview with NigeriaFilms.Com if that name was ever mentioned during the interview with her.

According to her, “I am not going to glorify anybody in my interview, so if you call that name again, I am going to stop the interview for no reason. I am tired of that, there are some things you just get tired of.

“I have granted an interview on that, and I have said that I don’t have a problem with her, I will never have a problem with her, she is just not my friend. That is it. When you keep asking me about her, I get really offended (her countenance changed). I am sorry,” the Petro-Chemical Engineering graduate of Uniport concluded.

Nairaland GeneralDavid Oyedepo's Deliverance Slap, Is Another Shame On Nigerian Pentecostalism by fasayoblog(op): 10:17am On Dec 20, 2011
Wonders would never cease in our dear country but a melodrama bothering on criminality was recently introduced. I have never been befuddled about the Nigerian mess but the dramatic situation presented by the ever savvy, ambitious and suave businessman cum pastor, in the person of Pastor Oyedepo was another sore show.

Our ever vigilant and dynamic online press have remained the conscience of the nation so far, especially in these perilous times when Nigeria badly cries for a human representation of the same quality. The shame that Nigeria has become is ever manifested on daily basis and no arm of the decadent edifice has lived up to the broom in the ethical and conscience stake. Our political class remains our ever abiding albatross whilst our religious leaders actively partake in the growing shame. As someone once said, the name Nigeria has become a shame to behold. No politician in Nigeria today is worth the salt, which is the sad truth. No political party is out to redeem the situation, which is another truth Nigerians have to learn. If there is any doubt about the latter, a trip to Lagos State where the might of the state is overbearing against the legitimate aspiration of the citizenry in the boiling issue of the Lekki Toll plaza would convince any doubting Thomas.

I have the greatest respect for Pastor David Oyedepo. Not as a man of God but as a good specimen of the Nigerian breed. Here is a savvy and suave business man who knows how to exploit what he has to achieve and consecrate what he desires. Pastor Oyedepo has built a business empire in the name of a religion. He has through good business sense and unparallel sagacity fed the gullible with the much exploited opium to achieve his material success in life. He remains the first Nigerian man of the robe to purchase a private jet. He is also the first to start the business of private universities. He is sleek and very intelligent. His world-wide business has his children manning the most viable branches overseas. Of course, I am referring to his church branches. He has ensured that even when he is no longer on the stage, the family business would remain solidly within the family confinement.

Multi million endorsement deals are currently flying left, right and centre in Nollywood with most of the stars involved smiling to the banks.

I’m not denying the fact that I was handsomely paid, but the amount is what I cannot disclose, it’s personal. My job for them as an ambassador is to basically use my face and goodwill to help promote the brand in Nigeria and other West African countries. This involves a lot of travelling and strategic public appearances”, she disclosed.

CelebritiesRita Dominic Goes Toe To Toe With Kim Kardashian With Similar Shoes by fasayoblog(op): 9:28am On Dec 19, 2011
Matching toe to toe with others in Hollywood, some select few in the industry have held up standards that make them more appealing to international audience. In the photos below for instance, Rita Dominic is dressed in the same high heel shoes as Kim Kardashian, an attestation the trends and how things have evolved.

But again, as with a previous article we published, let’s take a pause for a moment… Seriously, if these stars have grown in stature to create awareness and draw attention to themselves based on the brand appeal, should they not rather push an agenda of promoting African Fabric and designs, in an era when there is a clamor for jobs? Would African designs therefore not get more exposure, which consequently will create demand and the chain process trickling down to ordinary African folks, for whose staunch support for these artistes made them into such household names?

A food for thought!!!

Ahead of the planned commencement of toll collection on Lekki-Epe Expressway today, heavily armed policemen, yesterday, stopped a demonstration when they dispersed hundreds of residents along the axis who stormed the Admiralty Plaza, at Admiralty Circle Plaza at Lekki–Eti-Osa in protest against the tolling.

Meanwhile, an unconfirmed report had it that one person later died as a result of bullet wound he sustained during the incident. The police claimed, last night, to have fired gunshots into the air to disperse the protesters because they were armed.

There were conflicting reports as to the cause of the disturbance. While the residents said the police and hoodlums attacked them, another account had it that trouble started when the protesters tried to force motorists out of their vehicles to join them.

The toll collection, billed to commence today, will see saloon cars and tricycles paying N120 each per trip, motorcycle N50 and heavy duty vehicle N300. Nairaland GeneralNaison Zulu, 72-year-old Man Jailed For Raping His 94-year-old Mother by fasayoblog(op): 10:07am On Dec 17, 2011
In a bizarre incident that has left villagers in Dete shell-shocked, a 72-year-old man was convicted for raping his 94-year-old mother.

Naison Zulu of Stand number 49 Mtuya township in Dete was found guilty of contravening section 65 of Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act chapter 9:23 rape, when he appeared before Regional Magistrate Mrs Dambudzo Malunga.

According to the State led by Miss Memory Munsaka, on 7 July 2011 at around 10 pm Zulu gained entry into his mother, Alice Dube’s bedroom hut while she slept.
He got into her blankets and lay on top of her.

Dube woke up and asked him what he was doing, whereupon Zulu used one hand to cover her mouth while the other forced her legs apart.

He proceeded to rape her once. She managed to cry out for help and a neighbour came to her rescue finding Zulu still in the bedroom.

In his defence, Zulu who is the first born in the family denied raping his mother saying he was awakened by her shouts.

He said he responded from his hut by asking what the matter was but received no answer. It was only later that he decided to investigate but after hearing his calling from the neighbour’s house he returned to sleep.

After 20 minutes he claimed two men began to assault him after he responded to their knock, accusing him of raping his mother.

However, during cross-examination Zulu shifted goalposts arguing that he delayed in responding to his mother’s shouts for help because he got angry that she had called out to her neighbour instead of him.

The State however proved beyond reasonable doubt that Zulu had indeed raped his mother.

He was slapped with a 15-year prison term.

According to reports, winners of the awards would get return tickets to Tribeca Film Festival in New York next year courtesy of Arik Air, which is one of the sponsors of AFRIFF.

The organizers later settled for a lucky dip system, which produced Ini Edo as the winner, after the initial voting system generated lots of controversies.

CelebritiesNew Photos From Chinedu Ikedieze (aki) White Wedding In Lagos by fasayoblog(op): 4:11am On Dec 10, 2011
Nollywood pint size- star actor, Chinedu Ikedieze (MFR) popularly known as Aki yesterday took his Lagos fans by surprise as he secretly tied the nuptial knots with his wife, Nneoma Hope Nwajah, in Lagos.

The couple had their traditional wedding on Saturday, November 26, at the bride’s home town, in Obolo, Isiala Mbano, Imo State.

The Church service held at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Abundant Grace Parish, Ogba, Ikeja , yesterday was attended by a sizable crowd comprising of the couple’s friends, family members, journalists and well-wishers.

In attendance were the duo of P-Square, KC Presh, Chigozie Atuanya, Nonso Odoemenam who were among the groom’s men. Aki’s screen twin Osita Iheme a.k.a Pawpaw was the Best man.

Also, the parents of the couple were visibly present at the church service, which was observed quietly.

In his marriage sermon, the officiating Pastor, Akin Komolafe urged the couple to learn to tolerate and satisfy each other even in time of difficulties.

Specifically, he enjoined Aki’s wife, Nneoma to be submissive to her husband, adding that “it is the only way you can win your husband’s heart.”

Thereafter, the pastor Komolafe who is based in London, asked the congregation to pray fervently for the newly wedded couple for a sustainable marriage life which they did. Conspicuously absent at the church service were the groom’s colleagues in the movie industry.

Until yesterday, the couple kept secretly the venue of the wedding, which was originally scheduled to hold today, Saturday, December 10, but had to be shifted for obvious reasons of trying to avoid the large crowd.

A three-day event, the wedding continues today, with the reception holding at Essence Hotel, in Ikoyi, while the thanksgiving service holds tomorrow, at the same church.

Nairaland GeneralOsita Mba, Principled Nigerian Lawyer, May Be Sacked For Telling The Truth At Hm by fasayoblog(op): 3:42am On Dec 10, 2011
Nigerians are often in the news abroad for Advance Fee Fraud and similar offences. According to the following story, published on December 8, 2011 by The Guardian (UK), Osita Mba was just the opposite: a principled lawyer who reported how officials of HM Revenue & Customs had compromised their positions in favour of Goldman Sachs. He may be fired, or prosecuted:

The Guardian (UK) Report:

A solicitor at HM Revenue & Customs who turned whistleblower to disclose that senior managers had quietly let off Goldman Sachs from paying millions of pounds in tax penalties is facing disciplinary procedures and possible prosecution for speaking out.

Osita Mba has worked within the Revenue for at least four years and claimed to have personal knowledge of the deal that allowed the bank to write off a £10m bill.
He told the National Audit Office and two parliamentary committees the bank's settlement had been agreed with a handshake by Dave Hartnett, the permanent secretary for tax at HMRC.

Mba believed the deal might be illegal and told them he was making the disclosure under whistleblowing legislation. His evidence led to Hartnett being accused of lying to parliament over his role in the Goldman Sachs deal, which he denied. But he admitted his organisation had made a mistake by approving the deal.

Now Revenue & Customs managers have launched an inquiry into Mba's conduct that could lead to his being sacked or face prosecution for disclosing sensitive information.

He has been told not to enter the Revenue's building in Westminster without a personal escort from his line manager and has been summoned to a meeting, according to documents sent to the Commons public accounts committee.

Mba's treatment has angered MPs who say that his disclosures have been of enormous service to Parliament and the public. Margaret Hodge, Labour chair of the committee – which uncovered the deal using Mba's evidence – said: "Whistleblowers play such an important role that the previous government brought in legislation to protect them.

"Mr Mba's evidence has been crucial in uncovering not just specific but systemic problems in HMRC's secretive relationship with big corporations.

"This is harassment and is completely unacceptable."

Stephen Barclay, a Conservative MP on the committee, said it would ask further questions about HMRC's approach to whistleblowers. "We have already seen how whistleblowers from the health world have been stopped from disclosing information by their managers. It appears that a similar obstructive approach may now be being followed by Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs.

"The committee will be making further inquiries to establish the facts to ensure that the will of parliament is being followed," he said.

Hartnett reached an agreement with Goldman a year ago whereby it did not have to pay back about £10m interest on tax it had avoided.

The bank was found to have employed London-based workers in the British Virgin Islands where they did not have to pay tax on bonuses.

Mba, who trained as a barrister in Nigeria and completed his master's degree at Oxford, worked in the personal tax litigation team from February 2007 until November last year.

He wrote to Amyas Morse, the auditor general of the National Audit Office, in March, outlining his concerns over the deal. The subsequent NAO report did not name Goldman Sachs.
Hartnett discussed the NAO report with the Treasury select committee in September and said the Goldman settlement was properly reached.

Hartnett denied any personal involvement in the settlement. When asked by Jesse Norman, a Conservative member of the committee, whether he had ever received corporate hospitality from Goldman Sachs, Hartnett responded: "I have been to a supper with Goldman Sachs … I knew nothing of Goldman's tax affairs when I was at that supper. I do not deal with Goldman's tax affairs."

In October, Mba sent a detailed submission to Hodge and Andrew Tyrie, the chairman of the Treasury committee, claiming that Hartnett had misled the committee over his role in the Goldman Sachs deal.

The public accounts committee accused Hartnett and senior members of staff of misleading them, and hiding behind "client confidentiality" to avoid telling the truth about the Goldman tax deal.
Mba's identity was revealed on Thursday in evidence released by the committee.

A senior judge is to be brought in by the National Audit Office to investigate such highly controversial tax deals. The NAO is considering whether to examine the tax affairs of other big companies such as Vodafone to establish whether HMRC officials routinely signed off deals that underestimated the true liabilities of the companies.

An HMRC spokesman said it had begun an inquiry into Mba and confirmed that this could lead to his dismissal and prosecution.

Insiders say that section 18 of the Commissioners for Revenue and Customs Act 2004 states that information held by the organisation must be held purely for the business of the organisation.
"It is essential that we establish the full facts in order to decide what action to take," the HMRC spokesman said.

"To this end we are carrying out a preliminary leak inquiry following the disclosure, including on the Guardian website, of internal departmental documents which may constitute a serious breach of confidential information.

"This is the first time we have had an opportunity to see the documents and we will give careful consideration to this material."
