Loskee: hahaha hey goodmorning peeps!
should any one of you complain of headaches everyday, you must consider the number of hours you spend in front of your PCs to do facebook or nairaland or surf the net in general. bright colors and bright lights have a way of inducing throbbing headaches if on it for too long. so take some time out to rest from nairalanding and facebooking for a while. take panadol 2 tabs 8 hourly for a day, and stay strong. eat well too!!! cool
Ok Doc cheesy

If any of the prospective corp member wanna login into the world of the. Maritime Industry, its always open, but there's a certification for that, and its called (Basic Mandatory Certification) STCW 95 course: This is an orientation certificate that's needed if you wanna work onboard a vessel or an oil rig, And Maritime Academy of Nigeria is on the white list of IMO (International Maritime Organization) so they are certified to issue out this certificate for seafarers or intending seafarers.
These courses normally takes up to 2 weeks or more, so if you are interested you can always visit the school for more information, but don't worry you are not going to undergo military training lol, its a course for outsiders, though some oil companies send their staffs there for certification, but its very expensive, I'm just giving out this info, just incase you may see opportunities and you'll be required to have this type of certificate..
NYSC › Re: 2012 NYSC Batch B(june) Aspirants Meet Here. by fashrola(m): 4:38pm On Jun 03, 2012
Lol...I'm seeing some guys murmuring how tough their school is, well I don't wanna brag cos I don't lyk telling u my. story, though I'm graduate of a monotechnic institution, men I've passed through a lot of stress in my educational life, Maritime Academy of Nigeria is not a place for soft hearts, or u'll breakdown on the way, Our school is a regimented school (i.e para-military structure) its just lyk NDA, you are deprived from everything in life, all the luxuries, If u be Ajebutter drop am for house... Men it was hell as a fresher, I couldn't concentrate on my academic activities, I wanted out, but I kept saying "I can do this" I applied to study Nautical science (Check your dictionary) Men it was hell, because I think that's the most hardest course I've ever known + the military activities + Saddist Lecturers too, we were just 40 in a class, 12 failed, 8 repeated, 3 had carry-overs, and 17 graduated (1 distinction similar to First Class in Uni, 6 upper Credit similar to second class (Upper division), 6 Lower credit similar to Second class (Lower division) and 4 pass similar to Third class.. I passed out with Lower Credit during my National Diploma days..not because I was dull, but due to the environmental factor I was studying, But I thank God I'm a proud graduate now with an Upper Credit in Marine Engineering from the same Institution...

Wow...I'm happy dis thread is growing day by day...I guess this thread will grow up to 200 before 2 July....I want y'all to invite more prospective corp members who has no idea about Nairaland to come and join us...
Any Marine Engineering or Nautical Science Cadets/students in d house....oh no I guess NO one *sad* such a rare course

HND- Marine Engineering -
A Marine Engineer all trained at Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron

A double profession for me
NYSC › Re: 2012 NYSC Batch B(june) Aspirants Meet Here. by fashrola(m): 5:23pm On May 31, 2012
ORON LGA
*Adjusts himself* and *clears throat* Well many of you will ask y dis guy dey do this action? Lol no mind me oo..I know a lot about this LGA..if you may ask y? I will humbly say.. Oron is where I schooled, its a home to the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, and also home to one of the Oldest Secondary School in Nigeria, Methodist Boys High school.
Some of you may ask, I've never heard about Maritime Academy of Nigeria..ok just go thru dis link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maritime_Academy_of_Nigeria
Oron is situated between Mbo Local Government Area in the South and South-East; Okobo Local Government Area in the North and North-East; Esit Eket and Ibeno Local Government Area in the South-West; and Cross River State in the North-East. Its a 45mins drive to Uyo and 30mins boat-ride to calabar by water...and 30 mins drive to Eket
Their main occupations are fishing, farming, trading, crafts creations, among others.
Ok enough of the explanations joor... If you are lucky to serve at Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Just thank your stars, This is the best place any corper can serve in Akwa Ibom state, Corpers are paid N15k every month, there's opportunity to be absorb after your service year if you press your button well *winks*. There's a corper's lodge in the school with 24/7 hrs electricity (damn!! I'll definitely miss that place *sobs* when I was a cadet there) Your security is assured since it is commanded by the Nigerian Navy so no need to panic.
For those who won't be luck to serve there, there are good schools there too, like the Methodist Boy's High school, Methodist science college, etc...and for the Ashawo boys: we have Mary Hanney college (Girls school).

CONS:
* Community clash usually occurs due to land issues, and politics, Oron people are kinda violent people, But they respect and fear corpers; I just don't know why..but don't panic, I'm just giving you sincere information
* Expensive town: Their stuffs (goods) are expensive but its still affordable.
* Language barrier. Though almost 95% of people can speak English.
* there's are no government companies here nor agencies, Just schools, Health centers, Local Government council secretariat.

PROS:
* Proximity to three major places, Uyo, Eket and Calabar
* Seafoods are in abundant.
* Affordable accomodation
* At least good supply of light in certain areas
* Nice cuisine to taste
* There's an NCF lodge in case you are stranded. *for christian bro/sis*
* Night life is 15%, Except Cadets of Maritime Academy of Nigeria goes out on a drinking spree, Cos they are the only people who makes Oron a little bit lively.

MORE: Oron can boast of 3 standard Hotels, with modern facilities, and other guest houses available and its affordable, There's a National Museum, this is the coolest place to chill out..you can view the large river while chilling with your bottle of star beer, You can also have a taste of seafood here...
