ITU LGA IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Itu is a very big LGA, Very rich in mineral resources..It is bounded in the North and North-East by Odukpani in Cross River State and Arochukwu in Abia State, in the West by Ibiono Ibom and Ikono Local Government Areas, in the South and SouthEast by Uyo and Uruan Local Government Areas, respectively...it is closer to the state Capital, They have very good roads been specially constructed by Julius Berger, The main good thing about this place is the good supply of electricity, the place is not all that like a village setting, its a developing area, I don't want to talk about schools in Akwa Ibom state...cos that's one of the top priority project of the state governor, so there's no problem pertaining to education in the state..there are a lot of renovation going on, especially the Health care centers, Local government secretariat, Electrification projects, Building of housing estates..

CONS:
* No government companies here, Just Schools, Health Care centers, Local government Council secretariats.
* Language barrier

PROS:
* Affordable accomodation
* Proximity to the state Capital
* Cheap goods and services
* This LGA is very rich in minerals, I don't know if there's any govt agency for it..its for you to find out..Though they had one company for producing ceramics, but was shut down many years ago, so I don't know any recent development about this. This LGA is rich in Forest resources which consists of timber, wild life, palm trees, raffia trees, gmelina.. They also had a paper-mill factory, but was also closed down..I can remember they produced one of the best exercise books, Toilet paper, etc in 1990's..I don't know any of the recent development too.. So its your duty to find out if posted to this LGA..

N/B: I don't really know about this LGA, but I've tried my best to enlighten wat you'll expect when posted here.

ujchief: Abia state:
Abia has a population of closely 2 mil people, with numerous mineral, human and natural resources. Since the new posting policy is strictly teaching, u wil find it interesting to teach at abia since education is top priority in the state. You can engage students in part time classes, and if u're good with computer, u're already a hot cake, b'cos u can use ur part time to teach computer in evening classes.
There are 17 local govts in abia, none is rural, but most are not fully developed to the city standard.
Umuahia north (capital, developed), umuahia south (semi developed, very close proximity to the capital), aba north and aba south (developed), osisioma (semi developed, close to aba), obioma ngwa (semi developed, close to aba). Bende (some parts). The rest are not realy developed, but arent rural either.
I wont consider u lucky if u're posted to arochukwu (very far from the capital), isialangwa (least developed, close to rural).
Since the new posting policy favours education, you may be lucky enough to find urself in michael okpara university of agric, umudike (ikwuano local govt), abia state univ (isuikwuato L.G.A), Abia poly (Aba), college of education, arochukwu L.g.a, Federal Research institute, umudike, college of health, aba.
The state pays 5k if u're working in the state ministry or school, private schools pay between 5k to 10k.
Water is readily available anywhere u find urself, light isnt a problem, even the rural areas have better power suply than the cities. Security is good, we had issues wit kidnapin long time ago, but its all over now.
Below are a highlite of what u'll be expecting in terms of tourism: war museum, umuahia (the only war museum in africa), ojukwu bunker, umuahia, visit the active site for solid mineral mining in umuahia (site for mining and procesing of kaolin and talcum, used for production of powder, chalk, paint and costmetics), visit Ariaria market, aba, the largest market in africa and lots more.
I'll add more stuffs soon...
Nice post man...dis is wat we need on this thread...pls more information on other states are needed...and pls be sincere and don't mislead us with information.

Corpers to be posted to Ibiono-Ibom LGA (Akwa Ibom State)

Well I know little about this LGA, should I term dis LGA as "political" city, Men dis LGA knows a lot about Politics, this LGA has produced top and high profile men and women in Akwa-Ibom state and nationwide, So if you are a corper, lol you better avail urself in any campaign taking place and collect small change put for ur pocket, Though there are good schools and good health centers due to the influence of high profile politicians who come from there..Ibiono-Ibom is always undergoing construction and commissioning of projects (guess that's the best way to embezzle govt money) so shine your eyes and make something out of it, though its not an industrialised area, so things are cheap, there are good roads, water and light (this are wat their politicians are using to score cheap political points) so dear corper flex am well, The area was an agricultural zone, but due to politics, youth are no longer interested in farming again, so in ibiono-ibom the best way for your service year is working in their Local government council(administration work things)...an Ibiono ibom administrative headquarters at Oko Ita is a 15mins drive to the state Capital...u can even decide to stay at Uyo while paying you transport down there

Corpers to be posted to Ikot Ekpene (Akwa Ibom State)

According to post on (isit 50 or 51?) Check it out for yourself, I purposely singled out 7 LGA, I'm also taking time to discuss them one after the other, so don't blame me if you are posted to other LGAs which I have not discussed here.

Ikot Ekpene , known throughout Nigeria as " The Raffia City", or locally simply as"IK," is a historic town in the Niger Delta of Nigeria , and is in the densely populated state of Akwa Ibom, so even you don't want to work there in the future, but I assure you that you'll definitely want to come back to buy some of their artworks and artifacts to take back home.
Ikot Ekpene is a commercial city, and is inhabited by Igbo traders, well can I say Ikot Ekpene is located in the best place in Akwa Ibom state? The answer is yes, The town is located on the highway that parallels the coast, between Calabar to the south east and Aba to the west, with the state capital, Uyo , on this road just tothe east. Umuahia is the next major town to the north. So by this Ikot Ekpene is a 30mins drive to Uyo, 45-50mins drive to Aba, approximately 1hr 30mins to calabar...ok back to the main point
There are good public schools, though some of them are bad due to contractor's honesty to do good job, some schools here are dipilated, due to carry-money-run factor when a contract is been awarded, but don't worry there are still good schools and good public healthcare centers, One of the best Government schools here in IK is the FGC Ikot ekpene, this school has produced great people worldwide, so the reputation of this school is nothing to be compared to, and it will be fun teaching in some prestigious institution, The town boast of other schools which includes: the Ikot Osurua College of Technology, the School of Nursing...The town is not a dull place, there are good number of hotels, clubs, nice sit-out spots, Fast food centers and a lot of tourist attraction

Corpers to be posted to Abak (Akwa Ibom State)

Well I know little about this LGA, because I don't live there, but at least the information I am giving out will go a long way to enlighten you about the LGA especially for JJC's in Akwa Ibom State (make una no crucify me for using JJC lol)
Ok let's go there.....

Abak town, the LGA is located about 18 kilometres from Uyo, the State capital, so its proximity to the state capital is not far, just 15-20mins drive, depending on the location you in Abak.
Abak is known for its importance in Agricultural Development, The govt also plans to build university of Agriculture so here in this LGA, Agriculture na the main thing (Some corpers dey say "oboy na farming things oo" lol) don't worry na office things for you and other field work supervision, abi you wan follow farm? This LGA seems to have the best roads in Akwa Ibom state, Good road network and steady electricity supply, Abak is were the Nigerian Army Barrrack popularly know as Ibagwa Barrack is located, so your security is confirmed...And the goodnews: it is most friendly local government area because of the hospitality of the people.... Well as for the education sector in Abak, if you've read my last post about Uyo u'll know that the state governor is really putting its best into schools in the state, so that won't be a problem for corpers to teach.. Abak has one of the prestigious schools in the state who has produced a lot of great men and women and this includes Holy Family College popularly known as (HOFACO), St Mary's Science college (This college alone has produced a lot of great men in Nigeria), Government Technical College, Abak (lol...this school is my Dad's Alma mata) least I forget, The Akwa Ibom WAEC headquarter is located in Abak too, So as you can see, there are opportunities and also did I told you accommodation are very cheap incase you are not given a lodge..Just open your heart, I bet you the sky will not only be your limit

PS: My fingers ooooo

Corpers to be posted to Eket (Oil rich city)
* Eket is the second largest city in Akwa Ibom State , Nigeria,The city itself, an industrial city that in recent years has become a conurbation engulfing separate villages... Don't worry its a nice place full of life, the city is filled with a lot of white expatriate, that means there's a lot of opportunities over there..especially if you work your PPA to ExxonMobil, men that's cool cash for you as a corper...and they pay corpers N50k... And if you are posted to other area like schools, Public Hospitals, don't worry its still OK, People over there are nice, Eket due to its industrial and oil city nature is a relatively expensive city. The government has plans of upgrading the city by the provision of further major roads in the city and the construction of housing estates,
In the 1990s, western environmentalists were concerned over the activities of oil exploitation in and around Eket, such as Shell and Mobil . The area is now newly"oil-rich" and Eket is the thriving hub of a new oil and gas business, with more than250 companies providing support services such as catering, flights, and exports. However, this success has caused problems, especially a reluctanceby local young men to engage in traditional work such as fishing...So there are a lot of opportunities even after your service year..So dear corpers if you are posted to Eket LGA, don't worry just shine your eyes and use your number 6, u'll surely get what you want
Oops!!! I forgot...for fun-lovers, the beach is not more than 20mins drive, The beach is in Ibeno, and it is very beautiful and nice relaxation spot; and one of the tourist attraction in Akwa Ibom state.

FACILITIES: Uyo is a small organized town, not as big as Lagos, but it is well managed and it is still undergoing major face uplift, Facilities you may expect to see in Uyo includes, A newly built flyover. (claimed to be finest flyover in Nigeria), Ibom Tropicana ( Walt-Disney of Africa) this is where Silverbird cinema Uyo is located too (Oboy movie na N250 only there), 5 star hotel (lol some corper dey say "oboy u dey mad ooo, wetin I wan go do there"?) Don't Panic if you don't go there ur service year in Uyo is a waste, who knows who u might meet there? its not as expensive as it sounds, just go there and chillout with a bottle of coke lol, we have Ultrafit (modern sports center) are u a sportsman or woman? Then this is a place for you, located @ Ewet Housing Estate and owned by former Nigeria Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Nsikak Eduok, men there are a lot of places to visit in Uyo, when you come over, u'll see things for urself..

That's all folks man.... Abeg I know some of my grammars are bad...just accept am like that joor...and my fingers are hurting too

Just ff me on twitter @iam_kingzola don't forget to mention for a follow bk

*Continuation*

POWER SUPPLY: Hmmm well even in Abuja there's no constant light, so even in uyo there's no constant power supply; but @ least its manageable....Though power supply is stable along Wellington Bassey Way (Formerly known as Barracks Road), Ekpenyong street axis due to proximity to the Government house and Police barracks...though power supply in some areas are epileptic but you need to endure...that's NYSC for you.

SECURITY: Well as far as know, there's no safe place even in USA, there are some security loopholes in Nigeria, so Uyo is not left out, but due to the heavy presence of Joint task force in strategic points, tragic moments are minimised in Uyo...at least no bombs( so no fear joor).

NIGHT LIFE: hahahahahaha I know this is what you have been waiting for...(See una face Ashawo-boys n gehs) ok nah...though since the Okada business was banned, night-life slowed a lil-bit, but as of now I think, night-life is coming out of its shell (big time)..there are few clubs and sit-out spots which includes Monty lounge, Lounge-uno, Wimpy bar, Billionaire's club, etc...so no dull moments in Uyo.
NYSC › Re: 2012 NYSC Batch B(june) Aspirants Meet Here. by fashrola(m): 6:32pm On May 24, 2012
My fellow corp members....well I'm very delighted with your comments, I feel glad when I do provide solutions to people, it really gladdens my heart, and I promise to give out full and sincere information about Akwa Ibom state.. Ok here we go again
If you wanna serve in Uyo, there's a lot of places and good schools here, especially with this new NYSC policy, Don't Panic my dear, cos Uyo public skools are really equipped with all the basic amenities.

CORPERS TO BE POSTED TO UYO
*What you must know
EDUCATIONAL SECTOR: All Public skools especially the primary skools are recently rehabilitated, The state governor mandated all public skools to be fenced round and painted with one colour (Yellow and Red) so this has really beautify the structure of the public skools and also enticing for teachers to teach and students to learn well; The free and compulsory education in the state has made government has invested heavily in the education sector, so that means there's a lot of educational materials to teach pupils and students alike, thereby there's a free-flow of communication between the teacher and the student.

AGRICULTURAL SECTOR: They are different agricultural parastatals in Uyo, especially the on-going scheme for farmers in the state, I think there are great opportunities for corp members here.

HEALTH SECTOR: Hmmmm, there's a lot of opportunities here in Uyo, especially at University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Local health centers, because of the free health care programme in the states

ACCOMMODATION: Well there are good houses around, very cheap even on high profile areas, though your place of work will determine where you'll like to live. Ikot Ekpene Road, Abak Road, Oron Rd, Barracks Road, Ikpa Road are good examples of places where you might find good houses...due to proximity to the urban area.

TRANSPORTATION: Keke napepsa!!! One of the common transportation means in the city; Though there are cabs too, Keke ply almost the major roads in Uyo, which mostly are straight roads and interconnected to each other, thereby making means of transportation easier.

Same here too, but don't worry just meet your student Affairs and request for an ID card, I think skools will offer all students with one year validity ID card when coming to collect your call-up letter, or yet still go and do the-way-and-manner ID card for yourself
