Cuteamigo1: wow wow wow. this is unbelievable, i thought this is out of the league of a diesel engine but am wrong. i trust the diesel engine to be the size of a truck No.... They are massive Diesel engines onboard Container, oil tanker ships ranging from 20,000 KW to 69,720kW build by MAN B&W, Wartsila, Hyundai, Nigata, Volvo Penta, Caterpillar and majority of the engines are two stroke engines Unfortunately the highest I've worked on is 8,000 KW by Wartsila |

udemzy101: Depends on the person teaching him, you don't need to spend up to 2years or even 1year before you can know how to repair this things.
It's just Nigeria thing where oga will tell you to sign for 2years or so just because most of this oga's don't teach theory most of them do trial and error and when they get the cause, then if such fault arise they head straight to that place to repair.
It shouldn't be so, take for instance, as a laptop chip level engineer, some engineer believe when this problem arises then this is the problem, they head straight to the place to fix it and some times it might not be the problem. You need to trace from birth place, with a schematic diagram to help you trace fault well.
I see a lot of nigerian oga's them do trial and error especially in engineering stuff.
My advice to op is, he should learn from someone that have more customers, the more customers you have the more problem you solve and the more you learn.
And try to upgrade yourself, don't always depend on your boss for information. You don't need to spend 2years to know this stuff. Yeah that's true.... Learning is a gradual process I'm a marine engineer by profession, it took me just 18months to learn a lot while on board during my sea training phase. I learned about Pumps, Marine Diesel engines, Generators, boilers, Ref and air conditioning, Heat exchangers, electricals and other numerous equipment under 18months before proceeding to write for my license. Though there are lot to learn in the course of profession, if he puts in his best and passion to it Read articles, join forums, go for courses and upgrade your knowledge and I promise he will be the best in his the field |
