Freeze deletes controversial picture of Basketmouth's wife, Elsie Okpocha


Following his reported sack by the management of Cool FM, controversial OAP Freeze has knocked off the picture of Basketmouth's wife Elsie Okpocha which led to the sack - from his Instagram page.

The OAP had been in a long drawn beef with comedian Basketmouth but apparently shot himself in the foot after he posted an old picture of him kissing Basketmouth's wife, Elsie Okpocha, on IG, leading to sacking by his employers at Cool FM, Lagos.

For sharing an old picture of himself cuddling comedian Basketmouth's wife Elsie and taking jabs at the mother of two for bleaching (see here), Cool FM Lagos has sacked their controversial radio personality Freeze, born Ifedayo Olarinde. The information was conveyed to Somtoo Okoye blog by a usually reliable source.

The source alleged that Basketmouth and some of his friends (recall that Bovi shaded Freeze sometime age) influenced the development after informing the management of Cool FM how they were not comfortable with the OAP shading someone's wife. What broke the camel's back was when some listeners of the radio station called in to lament their disappointment over the Elise shade saga and Lebanese businessman, Amin Moussalli, who owns the radio station alongside Wazobia FM and Info FM, took the final decision to sack Freeze.

The controversial OAP is said to have apologized to Cool FM management but it isn't clear whether he'll be pardoned and accepted to the fray once again.

Denrele Edun is a media personality and presenter who had been in the entertainment industry for more than a decade. Fast-rising social media controversialist Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky who began trending last week after flaunting an alleged 7m naira gift he received from his male "bae" said some things about Denrele which the latter did not apparently like.

To clear the air, 33-year-old Denrele said in a statement that Bobrisky is below his standards, having stepped into the game just too recently.

Denrele said in a chat with Saturday Beats:
"I heard something about Bobrisky saying that Denrele is poor, that he has a Lexus and a Benz and I have nothing. I thought it was funny when I heard it but I did not reply. Such people are looking for followers. I don’t respond to those things.

"It is normal for people to tend to compare us because we have a certain way of dressing that is totally different from what everybody knows. Of course they would try to compare and contrast.
The kind of job that I do allows me to meet all kinds of people. If somebody gives me N10m, I would not open my mouth to tell anybody because the person that gave me the money would not want me to say it. I do not have to prove anything to anybody.

"I have been with this brand identity for a very long time and if someone is stealing my style, it means the person is not original. If you are doing it your own way, then you are original.
We are two different people and from the pictures I have seen, I noticed he uses a lot of heavy make-up, I use only powder and that is because I am on the television. Also, he is a lot lighter than I am. We have met once and we do not have any beef.

Former governor of Abia State Orji Uzor Kalu has bemoaned the arrest of a trader, Joe Chinakwe, who was charged to court by the Ogun State Police Command for naming his dog after president Muhammadu Buhari last week.

Kalu, speaking shortly after arriving the United States Of America from the UK, wrote:
On Facebook and Whatsapp, as I am scrolling through my phone, the most provocative trending is the thirty year old young man who has been remanded in prison custody for failure to meet his bail terms that include the payment of a fifty thousand naira fee for giving his dog a name. To me, this should be a laugh for all Nigerians to ease off the present tension everywhere in the country.

I am not a lawyer, but there are issues, to my understanding, that should not be brought to the attention of the law, instead, it should be dealt with amicably between the parties involved with caution by the police therefore not giving it the national attention whoever is involved wants to generate.

Or, still, the judge, if I am speaking the minds of many who do not take themselves too seriously or see life as a war to be won or lost, would have thrown the case out of his court for lacking a standing in jurisdiction.

While still scrolling and enjoying the story-forgive me for this, because the only thing I see in the story is the fun it is generating inside of me right now- the question in my mind is, is the presidency aware that a thirty year old Nigerian is in custody because he is accused of trying to upset public peace and because he cannot afford to meet his bail terms when arrested by the Nigeria Police force and charged to court?

I can authoritatively say the presidency is not aware of this huge joke at a time when its hands are full with both political and economic crises and the issues of the Nigerian youth it is bent on addressing since it came into power in two-thousand-and-fifteen.

Another question in my mind while the laughter inside of me continues to grow is, would the young man had been shown the road to the court if he had bought a one-million-naira shirt and gave it whatever name? Perhaps no. A dog is chosen instead of some expensive and adorable ornaments.

It boils down to the way we treat animals in the country, especially one that has been acclaimed to be human friendly. Elsewhere, will there be a court case if a name is given to a particular animal? I do not think so; nobody would have thought it as something to have sleepless night and good time over. And, moreover, the dog on the screen of my phone happens to be so adorable and beautiful worthy to be domesticated.

The young man has said the reason he gave that particular name-which is not narrowed down to any particularity- to the dog is because of his love for it, whereas others think otherwise, which now becomes a case between the young man having a good and intelligent lawyer to argue his case, which again may just be impossible in a situation where legal aids do not come easy and definitely beyond one who cannot cough out fifty thousand naira.

On Whatsapp, comments have been agog. Some say the young man has erred. Others say he has no respect for the elderly. And yet others bring cultures and tradition into the argument while the young man languishes in cell.

Not any of these commentators ones gave a thought to one of the characteristics of democracy, which is the fundamental human rights of the individual where freedom of expression can only be negotiated on the table of intentional assault, in this case, which the young man has said is not his intention.

The name is as a result of his mentorship interest and the love for the person that is supposedly involved.

One of the commentators had said, as a father, what one’s reaction would be if a child had walked up to him and say, ‘Father, I just bought this dog and I have given it the name, Arochukwu?’ if Arochukwu happens to be the son’s father’s name.

I will not only respond to the child as a father, but as a leader, too. First, I will have a good laugh that my child did not go to the market to buy a Tortoise and name it after me-we know the connotation of Tortoises in the Nigerian folklores- and secondly, I will tell that child that he should make sure he gives the dog a good training so that it can be responsible to all concerned. And, thirdly, I will pat the child’s head and tell him to go inside and study while I go about my duties as a father and a leader deliberating on serious issues and not on trivia that will take nobody anywhere rather than downing some good and fun creativity because it is all a matter of common sense without a particular issue of note.

Latest facts on ground is that Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede who turned 33 today is no longer available in the market as Kunle Ajayi has proposed to her on her birthday. The duo have been dating "codedly" for some time now.

President Muhammadu Buhari's official spokesman Garba Shehu has explained that Nigeria's number one citizen isn't concerned or behind the arrest of a trader, Joe Chinakwe, who was accused of causing breach of public peace for naming his dog "Buhari" in Ogun State.

Barely a day after the TRIPOB faction which was described "imaginary" by IPOB leaders surfaced, yet another group has appeared, claiming it was formerly part of the IPOB and has sacked Nnamdi Kanu as well as other leaders of the Biafran agitation.

The new RE-IPOB (ie Reformed Indigenous People of Biafra) said in a statement signed by its "leader" Ikeba Biafratoday:
"Both IPOB and TRIPOB have been sacked; they should no longer speak for the Biafran people. They are the same outfit and have nothing to offer Biafra.

"We warn that if Nnamdi Kanu , IPOB and the so-called TRIPOB continue their antics , RE-IPOB will be forced to make public the sponsors of the two groups. RE-IPOB will not accede to the burning of the Biafran flag as the sacked TRIPOB planned. The Biafran flag is sacred to Biafrans."
Meanwhile the leadership of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) - whose topmost member Nnamdi Kanu is in prison pending his treason case against the government of Nigeria - has described the new group RE-IPOB as "laughable," stating that the "fictional" group was created by president Muhammadu Buhari to place discord in the agitation for the Republic of Biafra.

IPOB spokesman Emeka Gift lashed out in a statement today:
"The Federal Government is chasing a wild goose by floating new versions of IPOB with their keyboard.

"Muhammadu Buhari will soon get tired with all this childish play he is doing and eventually realize that the actualization of Biafra Republic is more than a Fulani herdsman creating fictional groups and making laughable statements while sipping fura de nono in Aso Rock."

I've had someone tell me yesterday that Internet scamming aka Yahoo Yahoo is a "job". According to the person, this is because Yahoo boys (and girls) require an investment of knowledge, persistence and other logistics to land a victim.

Well, I replied the person: Does 419, armed robbery, kidnapping and prostitution not require all these things you mentioned above? Does having these qualities make them less of an crime? He was left puzzled.

And now, lets get back to business.

An 18-year-old girl named Xu Yuyu (pictured) has lost the money contributed to her for her college tuition to a scammer. In addition, Zu lost her life to a heart attack.

It was revealed that the teenager from Linyi, Shandong Province in East China was bound to head for the university next month. As the first person ever to attend higher education in the poor extended family, her relatives contributed money to the tune of £1,128 (about 564,000 naira) which was kept in her possession.

The story changed when Xu was contacted by a person who claims to be from China's ministry of education. Long tales aside, the girl ended up transferring the money to the said government official before he disappeared.


Xu who passed her entrance examinations to study Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications lost consciousness as she realized the scam. She died 2 days later in hospital on August 18 2016.

The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission has released a statement concerning blogger Abubakar Siddiq whom the anti-graft agency "kidnapped" (quoting Twitter sources) from his residence in the wee hours of today.

In the statement, EFCC said on Facebook:

"The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC today arrested Mr. Abubakar Sidiq Usman, a blogger, for offences bordering on cyber stalking.

"The suspect who is an online publisher was picked up at his Kubwa, Abuja home in the early hours of Monday August 8, 2016 by operatives of the EFCC and is currently being questioned over the alleged offence which contravenes sections of the Cyber Crime Act.

"The suspect has already been offered administrative bail and would be released to his elected sureties."

Uchechi Okwu-Kanu has reacted to a viral report by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) suggesting that her husband who is leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is willing to renounce his agitation for Biafra following a negotiation with the Federal Government of Nigeria to drop charges submitted against him.

Uchechi said in a statement released on Tuesday 2 August 2016:
"This type of news as distressing as it is, is laughable because no group can postulate what my husband can or cannot do or say. This is not only an insult to our belief but also a despoliation of our rights as a people perpetrated by dishonourable minds.

"It is now apparent that the charges against my husband are politically motivated and not a judicial process as President Buhari would have the world believe. This singular act of tyranny and injustice against my husband amongst others is reprehensible to every reasonable mind and is one of the critical reasons for the emergence of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) who have in their quest, consistently called for the release of my husband which President Buhari has underplayed.

"Subsequently, Nnamdi Kanu should be present at any negotiations and I can refer President Buhari to F.W. de Klerk of South Africa on how to negotiate with a freedom fighter."

Family business: President picks his wife as election running mate


Nicaragua's 2016 presidential election is coming up in November and incumbent president Daniel Ortega (70) who is seeking for a return has unveiled his wife, Rosario Murillo, as his running mate. That means husband and wife will be president and vice president come 2017 if Ortega defeats his opponents - the first of it's kind in written history.

Daniel Ortega was quoted saying during the unveiling of his running mate on Tuesday August 2 2016:
"We don't doubt that (the vice presidential candidate) had to be a woman, and who better than the partner who has already been tested with work and proved to be very efficient and disciplined?"
Nicaragua is a Latin American country with a population of over 6 million people and a GDP of $11 billion in 2013.

Photos: 5 hospitalized as Police use live bullets on protesting JUTH staff


Following a protest by the staff of Jos University Teaching hospital (JUTH) over months unpaid salaries, reports reaching Somtoo state that teargas and at some point live bullets were used to disperse the peaceful rally. 5 people were reportedly injured after a stampede ensued when the crowd began running away from the hail of bullets.


The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) of JUTH in Jos, Plateau State embarked on a protest on Monday I August 2016 blocking entry in the Federal Government hospital complex.

Minister of state for Environment Ibrahim Usman Jibril and representatives of the Anambra State government paid a visit to a former erosion site which was reclaimed under NEWMAP in Amachalla, Anambra State, on Tuesday 2nd August 2016. NEWMAP stands for Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project.

Danku is the manager of music star Oritsefemi. His car was involved in a ghastly accident after a Dangote Cement truck rammed into several cars at Sango-Ota Tollgate axis of Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on the night of Sunday 31 2016.

Danku who was in the company of another artiste, Rayce, during the accident, thinks that Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote should compensate victims of the road mishap since his company's vehicle led to the damage.

His words:
"On behalf of Rayce, Jebon Records and the whole MSN Entertainment, I thank God for preserving us till date and even if the accident wanted our lives we bless God we came out with just minor injuries, and we want to use this opportunity to thank all our fans worldwide for their support and prayers as we reassure them that we are in good and stable condition, we pray no bad occurrence will happen in our household. I wish all others who sustained injuries, those in coma and those who lost one thing or the other to this unfortunate accident quick recovery at God's speed.

"I also want to use this opportunity to reach out to Dangote group of companies to try as much as possible to compensate those who were involved in this fatal crash (injured/those in coma) and those who lost their assets, and personal properties to the crash."
