The compilers of the NIV Bible you're using are not real Christians. Many of them are agnostics and atheists.

The Hebrew word that the NIV scholars translated as rape in Deuteronomy 22:28 to 29 appears in many other passages in the Bible, but in those other passages it is not translated as rape. That fact alone should make you suspicious of the motive behind the NIV.
