Injury: This can result from fighting, attempting to escape from cage, aggressive mating and improper handling and cage construction. Steps to prevent injury include: - overcrowding should be avoided - two or more males over 4 months should not be in the same cage - females should not be mated with aggressive males - provide enough feed to reduce competition - grsscttrs run as if they are blind. They run into any obstacle in their path so the cages should be built in a way that injury is minimized when forcefull impact is made on the walls. Sandcrete drinkers and feeders should be minimized and kept at the edges of the cage to avoid clutter. - grsscttrs below 4 months can be held at the tail while older ones should be held at the waist. |
How to reduce mortality: Cold: grsscttrs are extremely sensitive to cold. Prolonged exposure to cold causes pnuemonia and eventually death if not addressed on time. To avoid this, a proper animal house and cage must be constructed that allows room temperature to be constant between 22 to 28 degree celsius and protect them from direct wind and sunlight. In fact they can withstand heat much better than cold. There should be windows that can be adjusted to regulate temperature and allow ventilation. Those with pnuenomia can be treated by heating up their environment and adding garlic and ginger to their supplement. |
Before going into grasscutter farming it is necessary to have adequate knowledge of the practice to keep mortality at a minimum. They are strong and shy creatures yet quite delicate. Unlike chickens, goats, sheep and other domestic animals that have been around for a long while and are docile, grsscttrs are wild and the farm practice is novel hence the scanty literature available about them. Subsequently i will give a few pointers on how to breed these lovely animals. Causes of mortality include: Cold, injury, bad feed, gastrointestinal parasites, poor hygeine, improper handling and housing, inbreeding, fear(real or imagined). |

one clue amongst others that indicates the presence of a crystal dome structure that encloses the entire earth. The sun is under the dome. The dome and air moisture act as mirrors that make sunlight refraction possible. |
Mcsenior:The number of colonies that you intend to start with and the availability of space will determine the start up cost. Reach us via whatsapp 08077047351 for more information. |

folashade96:hmmm...what exactly do you do? |
frisky2good:fishery isnt my area of specialty. i am just showing him the source of his problem. It's not adviceable to dive into any venture without knowing what it entails. Besides how can a solution be provided when he doesnt understand the practice in the first place? |
oluemmakay:In that case your problem stems from inadequate knowledge. Agriculture is a science. You need to understand the type of environmental and physiological conditions suitable for the optimal health and growth of tilapia. The easiest way to acquire this knowledge is to undergo practical training at an operational tilapia farm or you could study the literature and then implement via trial and error which is the hard way to learn. May i ask why you switch from catfish farming which you are expirienced in to tilapia? |
is this your first attempt at growing tilapia? did you go for practical training? |
do you have anything on ground at all? |

that's sad. it reminds me of one of my grasscuttlings called lucky. lucky's mother died when she was just 7 days old due to complications during delivery. i transfered lucky to another mother who has been weaning her babies for about a month. i robbed the feaces of the mother on lucky hoping that the scent would trick her into accepting lucky as one of hers but sadly she rejected lucky the next day. it appears that that mother has been with her babies long enough to master their scent. so, following the same proceedure, i transfered lucky to another mother who happen to litter the very same day lucky was rejected and she was accepted hence the name lucky. lucky is now about a month old and is doing fine. OP try your best to care for those chicks at least the fact that they dont have to be weaned by the mom makes their chances of survival more probable. are there other mother hens you could attach those chicks to? i hope they pull through sha. |
Baroba:yes i will dedicate a thread to that some time in the near future but for now i just want to caution the op on the risk invovled in engaging in this venture with inadequate knowledge. Note that a single grasscutter is over N10,000 so losing any can really pinch. |
guy i hope you are knowledgable about grasscutter farming because breeding them no be joke o. |
bros i hope you are knowledgable about grasscutter farming because breeding them no be joke o. |
oneolajire:You still dont get it. I am not saying that we should not work towards human and technological development rather am saying that we should be original in our approach and avoid towing the line of the indoeuropean because the very system you are trying to emulate was designed to keep us under. So we need to create an alternative political, economic and social order that is unique and fuctional in attaining said development. We have done it severally in the past and we can do it again but this time around it's necessary that we integrate the economies of all black nations. In fact the basis of the indoeuropean system was copied from us. You take the indoeuropean model as supreme and aspire to be like them but you fail to realize that this race of people are very different from you. The irony of it all is that their political and economic model is not even sustainable. What do you think is the cause of this current global recession? That extravagant and obscene culture of consumerism is self destructing. Though westernisation has corrupted our minds, We black africans are simple by nature. We are down to earth and close to nature; therefore our trajectory for technological development needs to be ecologically freindly with a lot more emphasis on qualitative rather than quantitatve growth. |
You are a democrat, a capitalist, either a christian/muslim, have an english or arabic name, is a citizen of a nation created by europeans, speak one or more european languages, wear european clothing, eat european foods, drink european drinks and graduated from a eurocentric university. So what exactly are you? Guy you are not even brave enough to accept the truth and know thy self. Wake up. |
oneolajire:More important than the unoriginality of your idea is the fact that it's base on the faulty and naive assumption that there indeed exists a global free and fair trade that is also colour blind. Until you fully understand white supremacy and everything it entails every other thing you think you know will only confuse you. Whatever developmental strategy we black africans plan to implement must include various ways and means of check mating indoeuropean obstruction and sabotage. These devils wont sit and watch us threaten the global status quo which have taken them centuries to establish and fortify. They will fight us with all their might to maintain their supremacy. And yes you rightly pointed out the self-hate and inferiority complex that we blacks possess as seen in our insatiable thirst for anything foreign. The cause of such maladaptive orientation can be traced to colonial indoctrinations of both past and present. More, the nigerian market alone cant nuture the type of technological development you have in mind. A global market is necessary. I am being pragmatically factual and not pessimistic. |
op the problem with your idea is that it's not original. We need to contrive an alternative solution that is unique to us as a people. Stop the follow follow mentality. Becos it worked for europe or asia doesnt mean it will work for africans. People of black african descent need to understand that a different set of rules applies to us in this age of white imperialism. The europeans used the massive wealth accumulated through 400 yrs of black enslavement(free labour) and then colonialism to invest in resaerch and development. The europeans and asians are cousins that's why the european willingly transfered capital and technology to asia. Have you asked yourself where is the market for prospective indeginous innovative products and services? Do you really think home grown products will be allowed to compete fairly in the global market? You cant beat these indoeuropean devils at their own game that's why we need to exit this global matrix of white supremacy and created our own game and rules. We the people of black african descent all over the world need to first tie our economies together before thinking of innovating stuff. No matter how innovative the product or service, without a ready market it's totally useless. |
Every livestock venture is profitable if managed properly. Just be sure to choose the one you have passion for. |
brianromel:lol toasting bread....guy are you nigerian? |
brianromel:yes i do use crude palm oil for every every. I only use vegie oil when i run out of palm oil. |
brianromel:Strong palm oil taste? i dont understand what you mean by that. I just love the rich taste of crude natural palm oil and there's nothing i want to change about it. The colour change it causes doesnt bother me so i no send. The vegie oil i use seldomly is turkey brand. |
I use crude palm oil most of the time because it's natural and taste much better than those other refined crap. |
chai! with all these conflicting suggestions the OP must be very confused by now. OP i think the best approach will be to consult a seasoned vet o. Dont give up. |
aristotlekay:hmmm....if you have lots of trainees under you then how do you make out time to tend to your grsscttrs? Were you trained the same way you train your trainees? dont you think if you gave training at your farm the need for follow up consultations will be minimal since the trainees would be better equipped with adequate knowledge? |
