Errm yeah I do. You have only given specification document. A requirement document would also be helpful.

Requirement specification,

--> The game must have ba blh. The game must sow blah blah. The game must have this button and dat button. Those would help produce a nice design(UML) for the game

ProgrammingRe: Is Recursive Backtracking Considered A Brute Force Approach? by Fayimora(m): 12:11pm On Jul 13, 2011
No its even faster than a brute force solution as you are not testing every possible input. However, you should only use it when your problem is one that can have a very quick test that determines whether your problem can be be completed to a correct solution. I think it can only be the same as brute force or even slower when you use it wrongly.

Theres a concept i read about that has to do with this but i really cant remember its name, would update if i remember.

pls i want to be a programmer dats why i love to join d family of programmers on nairaland, although i know computer but i want to go beyond just operating a computer, i will love a tutorial inform of a ebook dat i can start wit and if am confused i can come here and ask questions
You need to decide what exactly you want to do. Do you want to develop desktop applications? do you want to develop websites? do you want to be a database programmer? do you want to be a mobile developer, be it iphone android or Java. I won't advise you generalise yourself as its a risky step. Now when you choose one, you can have a focus and then others can follow as "extra knowledge" and with time you gain good skills in another stuff and move to the next. You next task is to sit down(pls dnt just reply without thinking) and think about what you want to do. If its web design/development, fine. You learn, learn learn, practice practice. lol. Now at the very least, you would then be proficient with web development and then, should you decide to try out software design or something else. CS is very broad and you really dnt want to be someone dats just general without a focus.

If you really are serious then here are a few steps you might consider, you can add to them as well as remove or even ignore everything. Its all up to you.

Take 3 days out.
--->  On day 1 make a list of all the things you would like to be proficient in(web, game dev, software dev, animation/graphics and so on). Dont just list but take time to think. group small parts together. Drops of water make an ocean.

---> On day 2, sort your list in order of priority, i mean put the most important stuffs at the top and the less important should fall below. This is a very critical step so you should take your time doing it. Rome was not built in a day.

--->  On day 3 you do the most important part, the final decision. You should have a list of at least 5 and max 10 stuffs sorted in order of priority. From that list you need to keep filtering out less important things. You may think its all about removing stuffs from the bottom of the list but NO. Take that list and keep filtering out things until you have just 3 left. Those 3 things are what you want(at least 70% accurate). Then you can only know what you are fully interested in and trust me, you would make it.

The very main reason why I am giving you these steps is because, in CS you must appreciate what you are doing. If you really do appreciate what you are doing, you would learn to learn. Sounds lame but its the fact. You need to know how to learn before learning. You need to have a strategy. In CS, I believe the number 1 strategy is appreciating what you are doing. If you don't appreciate what you are doing then you are so going to be LOST!

I think am gonna have to stop here before i turn this thread into a blog.

Wish you good luck anyways and any other person in his shoes!
My brother, I do not f*ck with Perl; although that language can do anything you can imagine, it is too clumsy for me. The new Perl 6 is also adding functional language constructs to its already diverse repertoire. But when it comes to string processing, I hear Perl is king.
Lolzz yeah perl is kinda clumsy even very ugly but trust me, i have gained a lot from it, Made some scripts that just makes ma life easy. One problem with perl is that its hard to learn but you only learn it once and you become a boss. Take for example, when i write code for someone(say a mini-software with 6 classes in Java). I don't have to go through each code to place the header licence,  all i do is write a 4 line script to do the jon in less than a second. Perl is just the bomb. The only thing i still haven't gotten an answer to is "Perl and Ruby, which is better?".

Tech JobsRe: I Need A Devoted Software Programmer by Fayimora(m): 12:02am On Jul 11, 2011
I am supposed to move this topic but I think its worth leaving here for the main time(3 days max). It needs maximum attention. I know at least two people who you might want to work with here but unfortunately they are super busy with sch and others.

Just a few observations:
--> I think you have given excess information and have sold too much to the public(forgive me if am wrong)

--> I also think giving anyone the right to charge for this application is seriously going to be used as an advantage, taking you out of the chain of command. Also, you would no longer have control over your intellectual property.

--> For you to get real serious experienced developers, you probably want to change your approach. Now you have given out your ideas to the world, giving that same world a significant part of your application is like making 600 mistakes in 1min. Anyone that is interested should be able to show proof of seriousness, a portfolio of work(even tho they are uncompleted, just something that shows you know what you are doing). If I were in your shoes, am even going to issue out a test with a time frame.lol.

-->Forgotten what i wanted to say but would finish it up when am done with what am doing, lol

ProgrammingRe: Community Project(strictly Java) by Fayimora(op): 5:46pm On Jul 10, 2011
Cant find you on github, search for "fayimora". I deleted the whole project. Would give a time frame for people to respond else i delete the thread aswell. I would have loved to use a database but for learning purposes we would use XML. If we have to use database, then we use a database online(i can provide that) without remote connections. So we wud end up using xml. Yes it might be way harder and a bit slower than expected but we are supposed to be learning from each other and not just designing some bogus software.

Am gonna post up a list of participants and give a 2day time frame. Any one that doesn't show total commitment is definitely out. If you can't participate fully, it wudn't hurt to just say it like @Sayomarvel did(even tho I got annoyed as I needed his brain).

Trust me am already getting irritated. NOONE is participating, I said it from the beginning. This ain't gonna be "let me check that thread". If not because am a moderator, I would have even preferred moving it out of nairaland. Now we are on it and everyone is relaxed. Am disappointed!
