Technically 3k feel is not much when u look at d traffic on d Road n using AC with ur car if u do uber or bolt. Then again all these fuel station cheat us. There are some 3k u will buy at some fuel station that will last u for days and some that you will buy it won't even carry a trip before it drains. So may not be d fuel pump you changed.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Silva, has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for creating an enabling environment for foreign investments to thrive in the state.

The Minister, who stated this during his stop over at the Akwa Ibom State exhibition stand at the ongoing Nigeria International Petroleum Summit holding at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, also acknowledged the proactive engagements of the Udom Emmanuel administration, which have made the state conducive for multinational companies and other investors.

The Minister said the state’s participation in the International Petroleum Summit was a worthwhile venture that will make Akwa Ibom more visible to the major industry players in the energy sector at the global level.

I am happy that you are setting the stage for the international community to see the state. This is the right way to go. This is something that other states should emulate’, the Minister said.

Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has assured the host communities of the ongoing World Bank-assisted 8km IBB drainage of completion and inauguration of the project by December.
Emmanuel said this during an inspection of the project on Tuesday in Uyo.

He applauded the speed and quality of the project so far and reminded the contractors that there would be no excuse for the work to exceed December 2021.

Emmanuel commended the World Bank for keying into the state government’s effort to ameliorate the sufferings of the people, who were exposed to perennial flooding.

“We are here today to look at this perennial issue of flood that has been affecting this place for over 15 years.

“We are in government to solve problems that is why we decided to undertake this 8km drainage, designed to take flood water off Uyo, through this channel into major outfall drain.

“It is a World Bank assisted project in partnership with the state government.

“So, I want to appreciate the World Bank for partnering the state government because we could not have done it alone.

“The project you are seeing here is going to cost more than 50 million dollars by the time we finish.

“There are some things we do that a professional politician would not agree to do.

“A professional politician would never do this because people wouldn’t see it to clap hands. It costs so much to take flood water out.

“The money we used here could have taken many kilometers of roads, or constructed one white elephant project.

“But that is not what good governance is about. We take in totality what would benefit the people,” Emmanuel said.

He noted that the state government was equally partnering other bodies and agencies in the fight against erosion and flooding.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Charles Udoh, said the 8km drainage was designed to link existing drainage from Atiku, Abak Road and Ring Roads 2 and 3.

Udoh said the design had given consideration to densely populated areas by ensuring that such areas were covered.

He added that other less- inhabited areas would be equipped with fencing to reduce risks.

A project for the construction of a classroom block in Akwa Ibom has 'gulped' N56 million in three years. However, the project is nowhere to be found, a Premium Times investigation shows.

For three consecutive years, Michael Okon Enyong, the lawmaker representing Ibesikpo Asutan/Nsit Arai/Uruan/Uyo Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, nominated the construction of a three-classroom block for a sum of N56 million in a school, which a PREMIUM TIMES investigation has found not to be in existence.

In 2018, N30 million was budgeted for the construction of the phantom classroom block at Community Secondary School, Oku, Uyo. In 2019 and 2020, N13 million was allotted each year for the construction of the block in the same school.

PREMIUM TIMES cannot ascertain if funds budgeted for the project were released and to whom.

The project was originally assigned to the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscience (COMEG). Then in 2019 and 2020, it was assigned to the Federal College of Veterinary and Medical Laboratory technology, in Vom, Plateau State, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

A visit by Premium Times to Oku Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, revealed that neither the school nor the block of classrooms exists. Oku is one of the four clans in Uyo Local Government Area and spans 14 villages and residents of the community told this reporter that no school with such a name exists in the area.

“I am from this clan and I grow (sic) up here. I have never seen that kind of name of school in Uyo,” said Akpan Nsikak, a resident.

This reporter visited other government secondary schools in the local government in his quest to locate the school.
