Ibime: The very reason JM put him in a position where he can be front-facing when his opponent runs at him, not chasing back (from AM position) where he can never catch his opponents. Midfield has no passengers anymore. Playing Mikel in an attacking midfield position is guaranteed to slow down attacks and weaken the defense. The days of Carlos Valderama are over. The new Valderama plays defensive midfield. If an attacking midfield cannot chase back (like Lampard), he should at least be able to launch quick counterattacks (like Mata). Mikel can do neither. Forget under aged football, this is professional footie we are talking about.

Tell me what position does Pirlo play in now? He collects the ball in his own half, locates a team mate and thereafter moves up to field for a return pass and then with one single pass cuts the defense into nano-particles. So are you saying he is faster than Mikel or he has more defensive qualities? Or are you saying that Pirlo transitions between an AM and a DM? ain't Pirlo a deep lying player-maker?
Mikel's "natural" instinct is to move forward and he ain't a defensive minded player until JM changed him just because he can hold the ball. I don't buy that rubbish.

Regarding Mikel...maybe you don't know but I regularly support him here (just like I do for Sir Drogba). Can't remember criticizing him unlike Mr Ibime who claims he is not fast enough. True he has more medals than ALL his U-20 team mates parked together and he has a freshly minted UCL medal. no be beans ooo but can you tell me the position he started in for Jos, Cape town and Oslo? Certainly not this current position. The main reason he made waves in 03 and 05 was for his genial creativity. True its not an easy task to get the ball off Mikel but there is more to his game other than just protecting the ball. We know say him no pack heavy shot for leg but him sabi pass but must it be sideways? Sometimes he is so tired you see him jugging behind the player he is supposed to be marking. He is not supposed to be there. Put him up the field and you will see his game.
Either ways, I personally prefer the Mikel of 05 (creative, incisive and strong on the ball) but that is not to say that I'm in the business of criticizing him. No boss. He is playing and improving for my club (but sadly not for country) which for now is good for me. I respect the player.

Everyone knows that the sole aim in football is to win and you can only win by scoring more goals than your opponent and this is fine in my books as as long as you ain't cheating or breaking any rules. Its called winning fair and square. That is what this is all about. Who cares if you park or shift the bus? Is it against the rules? Na by force make everybody play tiki-taka taka-tiki?

Mikel would certainly not have been picked by Sia1 and would most definitely not have caught the eye playing in his current position. heck, was he playing the butcher that won him the prize for second best player of the tournament in 05 or for making headlines in Finland U-17 (2003)? Did you see him making those unwarranted side-passes? No, the Ninja was making astute and progressive passes. He is supposed to be a creative player.
