Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has raised the alarm over the imminent collapse of the county’s economy, saying the President Muhammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) government was yet to show any sign that it has any solution to the dwindling economy. Gov. Ayodele Fayose The governor, who called on Nigerians to prevail on President Buhari to stay at home and govern the country, said it was the height of insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians that the President, who just returned from trips to France and United Kingdom will again be traveling to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar from February 20 to 27, spending seven days out of Nigeria in what they called “three-nation tour.” Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor lamented the lack of a clear cut economic direction from the Federal Government, saying, “It is worrisome that President Buhari does not have any economic team and there is no policy direction yet, despite spending close to nine months in office.” Fayose said: “The implication of the President’s obvious lack of the required mental capacity to tackle the nation’s economic problems and the resultant effects are human right abuses, prices of goods and services skyrocketing, daily retrenchment of workers, folding up of businesses, States finding it difficult to pay workers salary and the Federal Government not being able to prepare common budget.” The governor described what is being experienced by Nigerians as the sum total of President Buhari’s mental capacity, adding that “With President Buhari, Nigeria is definitely having a square peg in its round hole. “Dollar has gone double since Dr Goodluck Jonathan left office, with US Dollar exchanging for N350 as at today, Foreign Reserve is declining on daily basis, Boko Haram insurgents have come back even stronger than they were when Buhari assumed office and Nigerians are now being made to pay more for electricity that is not available for them to use. “Most importantly, prices of foodstuffs, newsprint, medicine among others have gone over the roof. Should we still continue to attribute all these to Jonathan or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)? “Even former Central Bank Governor (CBN) and Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is saying that President Buhari’s anti-corruption stance is totally inconsistent with the forex regime he supported and that the Federal Government Forex Policy encourages corruption and rent-seeking. “Funny enough, some people are already talking about President Buhari’s second term not minding the reality that anybody thinking about Buhari’s second term is only planning to snuff life out of Nigerians,” the governor said. While urging the president to focus more on the dwindling economy and stay at home to attend to critical issues, Governor Fayose said, “Travelling from one country to another won’t solve any of our problems because I have not seen where foreigners assist any nation to develop. “The President should know that Nigerians are suffering and they do not need their President to junket around the world, to alleviate their sufferings.” Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/why-buhari-lacks-solution-to-nigerias-dwindling-economy-fayose/ |

Governor Mohammad Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi state, has urged tourists to visit the state, stressing that it is safe and boast of good facilities. Governor Abubakar who took to his twitter handle (@GovMAA) called on Nigerians to holiday in Yankari, Bauchi state, as it is now too expensive to do so in Dubai and London at the prevailing exchange rates. The governor who posted scintillating pictures of the games reserve, caused a twitter storm. Most Nigerians applauded the idea including former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, and Senator Ben Murray Bruce. Others however, raised security concerns about visiting the North Eastern state. The governor in subsequent tweets allayed any security fears, saying that Bauchi is not only safe and secure, the people are also peace loving and accommodating. He further stated that his administration will take advantage of the slump in international tourism to grow the local economy, and Yankari Games reserve remains pivotal to the growth of tourism. The Government of Borno State has moved at least 600 Internally-Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Yerwa to the Dalori Resettlement camp. The relocation came on the heels of a promise by the state government that it would relocate the IDPs from the school to the permanent site, following an earlier promise to reopen public schools in the metropolis that had been closed for nearly two years as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency. Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Education in the state, Alhaji Musa Inuwa Kubo lauded the move, explaining that it was finally possible to move the IDPs after four previous attempts failed to yield any meaningful fruit. He said: “We thank God, it is a reality to reopen our schools that were closed down for over a year now. We are conveying this morning 602 IDPs to Dalori camp with their families. We have assured the people that the government will take care of the basic needs of the displaced persons.” http://www.theheraldng.com/201282-2/?utm_source=dlvr_nnd&utm_medium=twitter |

Despite the impression made by some of the ministers serving in the President Muhammadu Buhari administration as men of impeccable character, there are indications that a good number of them may be irresponsible in the area of payment of taxes, a Ripples investigation reports. The annual tax paid by one of the ministers in charge of telecoms when he appeared before the Senate for clearance last year was N5,000. The minister when confronted about this over the weekend, declared almost rather uncertainly that his tax payment must have been up to N25,000. He said: “N5,000? I think I must have paid up to N25,000 tax.” In documents presented to the Senate and security agencies by the minister himself shortly before the pre-appointment screening exercise last year, he had an Oyo State Government Revenue receipt with number 4014086367 as evidence of tax payment. The receipt showed that he paid N5,000 at a commercial bank in Agodi, Ibadan on 27th March, 2014. The tax profile of the minister in charge of external affairs is also not so impressive, as his Income Tax Clearance Certificate issued by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) on December 31st 2015 indicates that he earned N59,754, 551 and paid N50,000 tax in 2014. The wellness minister’s tax clearance certificate obtained from the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue indicates that for 2012, 2013 and 2014, the minister earned a total of N473,750, N1,158,334 and N1,166,666 respectively while his taxes for the corresponding years were N72,000, N73,000 and N74,000. Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state for petroleum, who should rank as one of Nigeria’s top income tax payers has an official document from Exxon Mobil detailing his tax remittance for 2012, 2013 and 2014 which shows an income of N93.1 million, N137.3 million and N105.7 million. Kachikwu, who was vice chairman/executive director before retiring on August 4, 2015, paid taxes of N14.5 million, N22.3 million and N15.9 million. The tax records of all the women in Buhari’s cabinet are equally impressive as they all paid their taxes promptly unlike many of their male counterparts who rushed to get tax clearance certificates on the same date December 31, 2014. Among the tax compliant women ministers is the minister of state for industry, trade and investment, Hajia Aisha Abubakar. She had an FIRS tax clearance indicating that on incomes of N3,429,880, N3,622,100 and N4,415,624 received in 2012, 2013 and 2014, she paid N420,654, N420,000 and N552,279 as annual taxes respectively. https://www.naij.com/730783-revealed-buharis-ministers-avoid-paying-tax.html |

House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, yesterday, uncovered N180 million double allocation to Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET, in the 2016 budget. The committee also queried the agency for earning dollars and remitting in naira to the Federal Government. It was discovered during budget defence that the agency made double capital allocations to the tune of N180 million. The committee said while the agency was generating revenues in dollars, it was remitting to government in naira, without actually disclosing how much of the dollar it earned and at what exchange rate it remitted to government. A member of the committee, Magaji Dau-Aliyu, had raised the question as to why the agency would propose a capital allocation of N85 million in Federal Government budget and then N95 million in Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, under the same sub-head in the 2016 budget. Responding on behalf of the agency, Director of Finance and Admin, Rueben Jiya said: “If we make allocation for capital in Federal Government budget and it doesn’t come, the double provision in IGR would have taken care of it without letting it suffer.” Asked what happens when the Federal Government approves and releases the sum allocated, he said there would be reconciliation. However, how such reconciliation is done and what happens to the surplus, the agency couldn’t explain. The committee therefore insisted that the projects must be fully situated, costed and sent back with appropriate figures assigned to the Federal Government budget with the remainder taken to IGR for funding, otherwise, the proposal would be rejected. Chairman of the Committee, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, told the agency that the committee would not entertain a situation where projects initiated and started by the past administration would be discontinued and abandoned. She also queried the agency’s decision to make provision for new projects in 2016 when there were still ongoing and uncompleted projects needing attention. She said the committee desired a functional and efficient aviation sector that would be the envy of all around the world. As to what denomination the agency was paid it’s IGR, Director General, Dr. Anthony Anofurum, said some part of the payment were made in naira while others were in dollars. Also asked why all the submissions made were in naira, Jiya said it was converted at the official rate. When the lawmakers further asked how much, he said: “There are different official exchange rates.” This made the committee to demand the rate at which the dollars were exchanged and what the difference was, given insinuations that agencies hid their dollar revenues from government. Consequently, the agency asked for time to do the reconciliation, as the director general and his team were directed to effect the necessary corrections and return the document by Friday. https://www.today.ng/news/national/78088/reps-uncover-n180m-double-allocation-in-nimet-budget |
The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of attempting to bribe the group with “Ghana-must-go” bags full of cash to abandon the Biafra struggle. The group was responding to statements credited to Obasanjo, in Abuja on Friday, in which he described the Biafra struggle as a “dead issue” and a “means of making money”. According to Samuel Edeson, the group’s Director of Information, in a statement on Monday, Obasanjo tried to bribe the members of the group in 2006 to abandon their leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuriuke in prison, The Cable reported. The statement read: “Obasanjo is ignorant of Biafra… MASSOB wishes to reply Obasanjo that Biafra is not dead and will never die. “Obasanjo should have known that after killing over 1000 MASSOB members at Umulolo, Okigwe, in Imo State on March 29, 2003, which he masterminded through Achike Udenwa, then governor of Imo state, it didn’t stop our agitation. “In 2006 while Uwazuruike was in Keffi prison, Obasanjo invited us to Aso Rock where he promised us millions of naira and to send us out of the country with Ghana-must-go bags of money just for us to forget Uwazuruike to die in prison, but we rejected the offer.” http://www.theheraldng.com/obj-offered-us-huge-sum-of-money-as-bribe-to-abandon-biafra-massob/?utm_source=dlvr.it_nnd&utm_medium=twitter |
Iran says it is using all diplomatic channels to pursue the release of a prominent Shia Muslim cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky who was arrested by the Nigerian army last month. “We have used all those channels to warn them [Nigeria] regarding this issue. So hopefully the government… would adopt wise action given the sensitive situation,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hoseyn Jaberi-Ansari told reporters in the capital, Tehran. Sheikh al-Zakzaky after members of his Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) clashed with the army in the northern city of Zaria. Campaign group Human Rights Watch said at least 300 IMN members were killed and quickly buried in a mass graves during the incident. The Nigerian military denied the claim. The military accuses the pro-Iranian sect of trying to assassinate army chief Gen Tukur Buratai, which it denies. Iran is currently embroiled in a diplomatic row with Saudi Arabia over the execution of a prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. Shia in Nigeria ▪ Shia are minority in Nigeria but their numbers are increasing ▪ The IMN, formed in the 1980s, is the main Shia group led by Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky ▪ They operate their own schools and hospitals in some northern states ▪ They have a history of clashes with the security forces ▪ The IMN is backed by Shia-dominated Iran and its members often go there to study ▪ Sunni jihadist group Boko Haram condemns Shias as heretics who should be killed http://saharareporters.com/2016/01/04/we-have-used-all-channels-warn-nigeria-over-shi%E2%80%99ite-leader-%E2%80%93-iran |

Please when will Iran be avenging the massacre of Shiites by the idiotic Buhari government??. That's all I am interested in. Buhari has bitten more than he can chew and must be made to pay for his crimes |
Kanu and Dasuki lawyers should capitalize on Buhari's ignorant assertion at the media chat to quash whatever charges being pressed against them. The silly ones always talk themselves into trouble. |
Right step in the right direction . If an Idi Amin is what Buhari is trying to build then he should be reminded that Africa have way passed such era. Nobody is against his fight against corruption but he shouldn't be selective and must fight corruption within the ambit of law . What if the sacked Abia governor refuses to step down citing whatever thing he so wishes . Posterity will never be kind to those sycophants praising Buhari for flagrantly trampling on the judiciary |
Muslims and fanaticism... Always fond of OUR OWN. Donald Trump may be right after all |
