President Goodluck Jonathan today set up three committees to prepare draft White Papers on the reports of the Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force, the National Refineries Special Task Force and the Governance and Controls Special Task Force, a statement by presidential spokesman Reuben Abati has said.

He said the action was in furtherance of Jonathan’s declared commitment to doing all within his powers to ensure greater accountability, probity and transparency in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry,” the usual government line when it senses public doubt or widespread disbelief.

The press statement said the committees would “study the reports, review the issues raised, and prepare draft White Papers for the consideration of the Federal Executive Council within two weeks.”

Of the three committees, the government said:

The Minister of Labour Chief Emeka Wogu will chair the White Paper Committee on the Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force Report. Members of the committee are the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro; theMinister of State, FCT, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide; and one of the Ministers of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed.

The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Ama Pepple, will chair the White Paper Committee on the report of the Governance and Controls Special Task Force. Other members are the Minister of State, Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada; Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar; and the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Bukar Tijani.

The White Paper Committee on the report of the National Refineries Special Task Force will be chaired by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc. Mohammed Sada. Members are the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina; the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Muhammad Pate; and the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Ezenwo Nyeson Wike.

LONDON (AFP) - Nobel laureate Prof Wole Soyinka warned on Tuesday that his country was heading towards a civil war, blaming political leaders who spread religious intolerance.

Asked whether he agreed with President Goodluck Jonathan that the current unrest was worse than the 1960s civil war, he told the BBC World Service: “It’s not an unrealistic comparison — it’s certainly based on many similarities.




“We see the nation heading towards a civil war.”

Soyinka was also asked whether the unrest threatened the state of Nigeria itself, and replied: “It is going that way. We no longer can pretend it’s not.

“When you’ve got a situation where a bunch of people can go into a place of worship and open fire through the windows, you’ve reached a certain dismal watershed in the life of that nation.”

Soyinka said the issues raised by Islamist group Boko Haram, which was blamed for violence targeting Christians in the north of Nigeria and has sparked fears of a wider religious conflict, had been brewing for some time.

“There are people in power in certain parts of the country, leaders, who quite genuinely and authoritatively hate and cannot tolerate any religion outside their own,” he said.

“When you combine that with the ambitions of a number of people who believe they are divinely endowed to rule the country and who… believe that their religion is above whatever else binds the entire nation together, and somehow the power appears to slip from their hands, then they resort to the most extreme measures.

“Youths who have been indoctrinated right from infancy can be used, and who have been used, again and again to create mayhem in the country.”

He added: “Those who have created this faceless army have lost control.”

Soyinka, a dramatist and essayist, became Africa’s first Nobel laureate in literature when he won the prize in 1986.

HAMBURG, Germany (AP)—Wladimir Klitschko won an unanimous decision over David Haye, adding the WBA title to his heavyweight haul on Saturday.The victory in a rain-soaked football stadium in Hamburg means Klitschko and his older brother, Vitali, hold all three major heavyweight titles.

Wladimir already had the IBF title (and minor WBO, IBO belts), while Vitali is the WBC champion.

James Ibori Extradited to London

'The former governor of Delta State, James Ibori has been extradited to the United Kingdom from the United Arab Emirates to face trials for alleged money laundering and other sundry matters.
Huhuonline.com sources in the UAE disclosed that embattled James Ibori was re-arrested Thursday night in his Dubai mansion and tak'en to an extradition processing center from where he was later flown to the UK.

Confirming the development, spokesperson for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Femi Babafemi said, “The eventual extradition of former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori from Dubai to UK today is a welcome development and a warning signal to others who do everything to slow down the wheel of criminal prosecution in Nigeria that justice can only be delayed, it can never be denied.”

Also, spokesman for the British High Commission, Mr. Hooman Nouruzi confirmed the report,”Yes, Mr. Ibori has been extradited to the UK from the UAE. He is in the custody of the Metropolitan Police Service.”
