Other countries subsidise products for their citizens as well, so the people have more disposable income, to run the economy. Read what i wrote carefully, they are efficient ways to run subsidies, government can work with banks, and coporations that reach all Nigerians, where every citizen is apportioned a quota, you can buy the smart card from your bank, and you get units as subsidy on specific amounts, each citizen will have monthly/quarterly units to use...let us think like homo sapiens, it is not rocket science, to correct the corrupt abnormalities that characterised our subsidy regime...with the right political will, and a smart e system, via chipped cards, that will work with filling station operators POS subsidies will be done right, and the value reaching the people, that it is intended for...you can not throw away the baby with the bath water. Subsidy can be done correctly, with the right political will, it is inefficiency of the ruling class, and connivance to selfishly enrich themselves that perpetuates the stealing of subsidise oil. We pay politicians to think and provide solutions, let us start looking for the smartest people, with the right intentions and motives to run this country. Proffer solutions, it is dumb for any citizen to reject social benefits, it is smarter to proffer solutions, rather than dumbly and happily paying more money for essential services. Think well.

In a country like Nigeria, it is better to subsidized services instead of goods.
Education and health are already being subsidised.
Subsidization of goods leads to wastage and is easily manipulated.

Public there is as in plc, when I said private I meant it was not a government institution.
Meaning private entities also have stake in it, Aramco is no more a Solely Saudi Owned entity and is not run like a government parastatal.

It was once a private entity bought over by the Saudi Government and it has also now been listed as a public entity since it has share holders.
It pays tax and remits profit to the Saudi Government has a CEO which qualifies it as a Private entity

If you scrutinize this issue properly.... You'll find that after the Judiciary... executive and legislature..... Dangote is the fourth arm of the government.

I'm not saying this is bad....He has provided a lot of employment to Nigerians... something the government still struggles with.....But there's also a cost.....

When government gets involved in business it drives potential investors away as it does not level the playing ground, they can enter partnerships fund PPP amongst other things.
The only time government should undertake a project is if there is no willing investor and it is a must have, even at that it should not be managed by them.
As far as am concerned we have a lot of willing investors in the Nigerian oil industry.

Bros Subsidy is the easiest way to steal money, most money being stolen can be tracked this days or investigated if a new government comes in. With subsidy no way, subsidy is not about the price the claim the are paying, it is about the fuel snuggling cartel, that carries subsidized fuel across the border to sell at a higher rate.

Two things affect petrol price, international price of crude and current dollar price, it is unfortunate that this government cannot have the courage and hands of fuel importation once and for all , leave business for business men let market forces determine price.
As far as FG keeps importing fuel, refineries will find it difficult to work, because no incentives when it is cheaper to import.
