I have dealt with a similar issue before, but I can't confirm if its the same issue, in order to do so please When you get the chance try this and report back. When you initially start the car in the morning start off in 2 or L and report back.

I would have suspected a converter drain back but reverse works fine. My money is on a worn check ball. You need proper hydraulic diagnosis.

Does it help if you engage reverse for some seconds first before engaging drive?

Thanks Kashif. On the bolded I think it doesn't because I usually pull out on reverse before engaging drive. I guess I will make time out to go for scan. Should I tell them specific area to scan or the general scanning will detect every issue?

Recently, my '97 Maxima hesitates about 10 to 15 seconds before responding when I engage the D. Reverse engages smoothly with no problem but once I select to D, it takes some time before moving forward by itself. If I happen to throttle at this time it will just rev without moving or jerks forward after those few seconds. I do regular service and oil change every 3months.

I also observed that this usually happens during the first starting for the day or after the car has been parked for more than 3hrs. Other than that car still drives smoothly.

Oga if you are managing, it is better you go and buy toyota corolla jeje. You are only talking about fuel. They are other unexpected expenses that could pop up at any time. The V6 is stronger but then the wahala can be too much. If you are not going to be travelling with the car often, then you should use a toyota. Toyota cars are about the cheapest to maintain especially if you'll just be driving your car from home to work and back and then within lagos.

Bros, why don't you just explain the "wahala" that comes with a V6 so we can all be aware. Are you speaking from personal experience and if yes, what kinda of car was it? I no understand how the unexpected expenses can pop up any time.

OP, you never ready to own a car.
Makes me laugh hard each time I hear people complaining about fuel consumption for v6 engine. Unless, there's a problem with your car, especially if you don't keep to servicing schedules, then you shouldn't have issues with the marginal difference in fuel consumption.

I got the same vibes from so called professional mechs and friends, how I go spend tire on fuel when I wanted to buy a 97 Nissan Maxima, first car I ever drove (I bought the car and got an instructor that taught me driving with it). Two years down the line, looking back I can only thank God that I never let the deal pass me by.

The other day I drove my friend's Big Daddy and I don't know if its just me, but I kinda didnt feel "safe" in the car. Car weight felt so light...like I was trying too hard to race the car.

Bottom line, if everything about the car is ok and you like it. Go for it.

Except the purge control solenoid valve (an electrical gadget) has screamed out with a code (P0443), let it be. Yes, the contents of the charcoal canister have certainly disintegrated. Have the canister replaced and the evap lines cleaned.

Thanks bro. For now I don't have any lights on dashboard. So I should have just the charcoal canister changed? I just did a simple test I saw on YouTube and the purge control valve sucks vacuum well.

That's your purge control valve solenoid. It all allows for flow of gas accumulated from your fuel in your tank to go in through the intake manifold plenum. This gas has a storage house called the charcoal canister.in this case what I think is happening here is that the your car's charcoal canister has been over filled up with hydrocarbon so there fore the purge control solenoid valve keeps sucking up the hydrocarbon rather than the gas. What car is this by the way?

Its a Nissan Maxima 97. I had to let the whole bits pour out before he fixed back the plug.

Went for routine service this morning and after checks the mechanic said we need to change one the plugs. Car is Nissan maxima 97.

So on removing the plug holder (don't know if that's the name) noticed this black substance pouring from one of the holes. Looks like bits of charcoal but my mechanic couldn't explain what it is. So I took some pics.
