INTRODUCTION
Mentorship is a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person. The mentor may be older or younger than the person being mentored, but he or she must have a certain area of expertise. Christian mentoring is largely about modelling a mature Christian life and being there for the student when questions arise. This does not mean that the teacher is perfect, but that he has more knowledge and experience with the word of God and is seeking to live a victorious Christian life. So many characters defects and deviation from biblical principles can be traced to absence or failure of mentorship.

BIBLICAL CONCEPT OF MENTORSHIP

Mentorship is a process that always involves communication and it is relationship-based. It is a learning and development partnership between someone with vast experience and someone who want to learn (2Kings 2:2-6). Scripture does give us numerous examples of mentoring. Moses was mentored by his father-in-law Jethro, first as son-in-law and then as a leader (Exodus 18). Moses in turn mentored Joshua (Numbers 27:18). The mentoring relationship between Eli and Samuel prepared Samuel for the tasks and responsibilities that were his after Eli's death (1Samuel 3:7-10). Jesus mentored His disciples (Luke 9), and both Barnabas and Paul excelled in mentoring (Acts 9:15). Paul had a clear mentoring relationship with Timothy (1Timothy 1:1-4) and Titus (Titus 1:4).

Mentorship also has a serious link with the personality trait of a mentor. A godly mentor is expected to be a genuine believer and follower of Christ (1Cor. 11:1), spirit filled (Isaiah 11:2) and full of wisdom (Deut. 34:9). Patience is an indisputable quality (1Thess. 5:14). A mentor must have a thorough knowledge of the word of God (2Timothy 2:15), bold (2Cor. 10:1) and of good report (1Timothy 3:1-7).

BENEFITS OF CHRISTIAN MENTORSHIP

One of the numerous benefits of mentorship is psychological/emotional support. When a mentee, (the person being mentored), is troubled in life he/she should be able to approach his/her mentor for psychological/emotional comfort (2Kings 6:1-7). Guidance is another benefit of mentorship: the mentee will be guided to live a responsible and accountable life in order to fulfil God's purpose (1Samuel 3:7-9), Godly counsel is an added value through the acquisition of doctrinal knowledge that can be passed unto others (2Timothy 2:2). The mentee will also learn from the experience of the mentor, follow the good steps and avoid the mistakes made by the mentor thereby saving the mentee from avoidable errors (Exodus 18:13-19; Proverbs 11:14). Mentorship helps establish the mentee in the faith for proper spiritual maturation (1Thess. 3:2-6; 1Thess. 4:9, 10; 1Thess. 5:11-15).

Believers should know that for every feild of life (ministry, business, academics, relationship, career/profession, etc.), there are experienced believers who can mentor them to succeed in a godly way.

CONCLUSION
The Christian race is a process that needs the grace of God and support of godly mentors. Prayerfully consider having a mentor today.

*LESSON INTRODUCTION*: Power can be defined as ability, strength and capability to do something. But in this case, God´s power is the divinely given ability, strength or capability to enforce spiritual manifestations far above the natural or human comprehension. For instance, Acts 10:38 says: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him”. This means that all what Jesus did was made possible by God's anointing upon Him".

*INTRODUCTION:*
Our bible character, who was very conscious of the race he was called to run, was Paul, the apostle. Apostle Paul in Philippians 3:12-14 had a steadfast determination. He did not quit, he did not turn or look back, he did not give in, he did not slow down: He pressed towards the mark for the price of the high calling in Jesus Christ. The moment you became born-again, a race is st before you (Hebrews 12:1). Without being born-again, you have no destination to go with God. Religion and being religious can never give you a destination in Christ.

*MEMORY VERSE:*
“I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” Ecclesiastes 9:11

*TEXT REVIEW: Hebrews 12:1-13*

i. Continuous exhortation to faith patience and godliness is needed.
ii. Set Jesus at the beginning and end of every race.
iii. Endurance is needed to finish the race.
iv. Encouraging others and be of help in any way as you run
v. A honorary position and crown await anyone that runs to the end.

*LESSON OUTLINE*:

It is one thing to start a race and another thing to finish it. While it is a great thing to finish the race, it is more glorious to finish it with joy.


*TO FINISH IT WITH JOY, we must:*

1. Remember, that we are surrounded by, so great, a cloud of witnesses, who by faith have testified to the truth of God´s absolute faithfulness (Hebrews 12:1a). We are not the only one to take this journey. People have run this way before, as Hebrews 11 shows (a chapter that is often called the “hall of faith”).
2. Do away with every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us. We must run with endurance and persistence the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1b). Those things that seem so satisfying in the moment can take our eyes off the prize (Romans 8:13).
3. Look away from all those things that will distract us and keep your focus only on Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).

*SUMMARY:* Safety is of the Lord. So run with God in mind.

*CONCLUSION:*
We must run the race that is set before us depending completely on God. As we run this race and keep our eyes on Jesus, He will bring us to our long-awaited reward (Philippians 3:4).
Satan is doing everything to get us, but if we are dead to self, we will not be moved. However, if we allow self to control us,we will take offence and finish in sorrow. This will not be our portion in Jesus' name. But, we must be ready to pay the price to finish this Christian race with joy.


*ASSIGNMENT:* Determine in your heart to run to the end telling it to God daily to help you.

INTRODUCTION
Joshua the son of Nun (Jo's. 1:1) can be described as the military aide of Moses (Exodus 17:8-9). He was ordained and appointed to succeed Moses. God and Moses ordained him (Numbers 27:18-23). He made his first appearance in Exodus 17:8-16. He is of the tribe of Ephraim and his original name was 'Hoshea' meaning 'Salvation' ( Deuteronomy 32:44) which is also spelt 'Oshea' (Numbers 13:. Moses renamed him Joshua meaning 'Jehovah saves' (Numbers 13:16). Alternative spelling of his name are 'Jehoshua' (Numbers 13:16). 'Jehoshuah' (1Chron. 7:27) and ' Jeshua' (Nehemiah 8:17). He died at the age of one hundred and ten (Joshua 24:29).

CHARACTER AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Joshua was full of the spirit of wisdom (Deuteronomy 34:9). He was a warrior who led Israel to battle from the time of Moses (Exodus 17:9-15). He was optimistic together with Caleb ( Numbers 14:6). A faithful follower of Moses ( Exodus 33:8-11). He accompanied Moses to Mount Sinai and waited for him at the bottom of the mountain while Moses climbed the mountain to receive from God the Ten Commandments (Exodus 24:13-14; Ex. 32:15-19). He was humble enough to understudy Moses. Joshua was committed to serving God and also made his family to serve God (Jo's. 24:15). He had a strong faith in God even in the battle such that he altered the course of nature ( Joshua 10:12-14). His farewell message condemned idolatry as he wanted Israel to serve God (Joshua 23 and 24). He took counsel from God before doing anything except in the case of the Gibeonite (Joshua 5:13+14) and the people of 'Ai' (Joshua 7:3) where he allowed people to influence his decisions.

Joshua succeeded Moses (Joshua 1:1-2,5). Joshua parted river Jordan ( Joshua 3:13-17). He took Israel to the Promised Land and divided the conquered cities among the tribes of Israel as God mandated him (Jo's. 1:6). Joshua led the miraculous and historical conquest of Jericho (Joshua 6). He was able to charge the Israelites not to deviate from serving God; a legacy that lasted after his death (Joshua 24:14-16; 20:24).

LESSONS FROM JOSHUA'S LIFE

Believers should hold on to God's counsel and remain strong to the end ( Jo's. 1:6-7; Eph. 6:10-11). We should learn to be obedient and follow through with detailed divine instructions ( Joshua 3; 6:1-21; 1Samuel 15:22; 2Corinthians 10:6). We should be bold in the face of challenges ( Joshua 5:13-14; Joshua 10:12-14; 2Timothy 1:7). Like Joshua believers must shun unfaithfulness ( Joshua 7:19-26; 1Corinthians 4:2).

CONCLUSION
Believers who remain obedient to divine instructions will enjoy divine help always.
