Politics / Big Trouble As Anambra Gets Two Speakers by feranmmie(m): 11:44am On Nov 14, 2018 |
Trending as fresh crisis erupted at the Anambra state House of Assembly on Tuesday as an attempt by aggrieved lawmakers to impeach the Speaker, Hon. Rita Maduagwu, appears all but thwarted by the Clerk of the parliament as he reportedly refused to swear in Hon. Ikemefune Uzoezie as new speaker. Maduagwu who rallied about 10 lawmakers out of 30 members of the assembly to hold a brief session after the controversial impeachment, however, insisted that she remained the speaker. She described her purported impeachment as “a bundle of illegality” and those behind it as “rascals.” According to her, “Nobody can impeach me because I have not committed any offence. They didn’t have any power known to any law to impeach me. They need two-thirds of our members to impeach the speaker or the governor. So, I’m still the speaker,” she declared in a defiant tone. Orient Daily was at, and witnessed, the dramatic session during which the controversial impeachment plot was initiated following a motion moved by Uzoezie, a two-term member representing Aguata II constituency, and supported by Hon. Onyebuchi Offor of Ekwusigo constituency. Shortly after the motion was raised, Hon. Benson Nwawulu swiftly nominated Uzoezie as new speaker and supported by Hon. Kingsley Iruba of Nnewi South I. The 30-member 6th Assembly, it was learnt, was presided over by the deputy speaker, Hon. Harford Ikechukwu Oseke and had 23 members in attendance. This resulted in a rowdy session as Hon. Uche Okafor of Ayamelum constituency, argued, without being formally recognised to address the session by the new speaker, that the impeachment was not properly conducted. Okafor argued that Hon. Paschal Agbodike and Hon Godwin Okafor, who were reportedly included in the lists of those that impeached Maduagwu, were not present in the house. The impeachment plot was, however, to suffer a major technical hitch when the Clerk of the House, Pius Udoh, refused to swear in Uzoezie who, in preemption, had already occupied the speaker’s seat. Udoh insisted that the impeachment process did not follow due process. According to Udoh, the lawmakers ought to have presented the necessary document containing names and signatories of those that impeached the speaker and, as well, itemised her offence(s) and not just impeach her by mere, indeterminate voice votes. As the heated argument continued, Uzoezie called on the majority leader, Hon. Victor Jideofor Okoye, to call a motion for adjournment, a call Okoye hastily heeded and got supported by Hon. Offor whereupon the house rose. Addressing the press after the session, the Uzoezie accused Maduagwu of docility and financial misappropriation, adding that he would be addressing the press in subsequent sittings starting from Thursday when the next plenary would hold. Shortly after the impeachment drama, however, some members of the Anambra state executive, such as Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Commissioner for Information, C Don Adinuba, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on House of Assembly matters, Hon. Chidozie Ezeugwa and some others, as well as a combined team of security personnel, stormed the legislative complex in what observers view as show of solidarity with the embattled speaker. Addressing a press conference afterwards, the embattled Speaker, Rita Maduagwu, insisted that she was not impeached. According to her, the house required 20 members (2/3 majority) to carry out impeachment but 15 members were already on her side out of 30 members of the house and she was never served with any impeachment notice. She recalled that there was not served any impeachment notice noting that she was in the complex and preparing to come down for normal plenary having just finished an executive session with them. Maduagwu also insisted that no house member was suspended, adding that no executive member intervened to forestall the impeachment as those members had no legal backing to carry out the act. The eleven members further sat at 3.38 pm in a session presided by Speaker Maduagwu. Addressing the media on why he refused to swear in Hon. Uzoezie as speaker when the impeachment faction demanded so, the Clerk of the House, Pius Udoh, said the impeachment was not properly conducted but rather null and void. Udoh claimed that it was only the Speaker that can preside over the house and she was in the premises waiting to come down for the sitting when her deputy presided. He said it was only when the speaker so directed the deputy speaker that he could preside over plenary and not the other way around. He added that Uzoezie and the lot made a blanket statement for impeachment and followed this up with a mere voice vote. “There are matters you can use a voice cote. The matters involving impeachment cannot be conducted using a voice vote. Section 93 (c) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is explicit on how the Speaker or deputy speaker can be removed,” he added. He explained that he should have presented a roll call of those signing the impeachment, and other procedures. He said there was no sitting or impeachment as it was null and void; and only an attempted impeachment. On which faction will sit on Thursday, the Clerk said it was only the Maduagwu faction that will sit on Thursday because there was no change in leadership of the house. On his part, the senior special assistant to the Anambra state governor on Assembly matters, Hon. Chidozie Ezeugwa, in another interview, assured that both factions would soon resolve their differences insisting there was no change in leadership of the house. Meanwhile, the publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Anambra state, Mr. Okelo Madukaife, has dismissed the dramatic impeachment plot at the state house of assembly as mere comic show. According to the APC spokesman, Anambra state has never had a state assembly. “They are just rubber stamp; they don’t carry out oversight function. What we have in Anambra state is a committee in governor Obiano’s pocket.

Sports / Ranieri Named New Fulham Boss After Jokanovic Sacking by feranmmie(m): 11:33am On Nov 14, 2018 |
The former Leicester City boss returns to the English top flight looking to rescue the London club from a relegation scrap Slavisa Jokanovic has been sacked by Fulham with Claudio Ranieri appointed as the Premier League club's new manager. With Fulham bottom of the Premier League following six consecutive defeats, the most recent of which was Sunday's 2-0 loss at Liverpool, Jokanovic's departure was confirmed on Wednesday. And Ranieri, who won the Premier League at Leicester City in 2015-16, will replace the Serbian at Craven Cottage. Fulham said Ranieri has signed a "multi-year" contract and he will be tasked with dragging them out of relegation trouble. Jokanovic led Fulham back to the Premier League but results this term have been poor, a 4-2 home win over Burnley their sole success. Chairman Shahid Khan expressed regret at the sacking of Jokanovic and thanked the former Watford boss for his efforts at the club. "I wasn’t anticipating having to make this announcement related to Slavisa and wish the circumstances were such that I didn’t have to, but our path this season has led me to make what I know is the correct decision, at the right time, for our players, the club and our supporters," Khan said in a statement. "Slavisa will always have my appreciation and respect for everything he did to return Fulham to top-flight football. I am hoping everyone in the Fulham family shares my heartfelt sentiments for Slavisa and joins me in wishing him success and good fortune, wherever his next stop may be." Khan's son Tony will continue to oversee first-team player recruitment and contractual agreements in his role as vice-chairman and director of football operations, although Ranieri has been appointed manager while Jokanovic's title at the club was head coach. "Making a change without having the right answer or succession plan was not an option, so having someone of Claudio's calibre ready to accept our challenge was comforting but, most of all, essential," Shahid Khan added. "Claudio is risk-free and ready-made for the Premier League, and particularly so for what we need at this moment at Fulham. His recent body of work with Leicester City is literally legendary, and then you look at Claudio's experience with Chelsea and big clubs throughout Europe, and it’s pretty evident we are welcoming an extraordinary football man to Fulham football club." Ranieri, whose former clubs include Monaco, Chelsea, Roma and Juventus, was most recently in charge of Nantes but left the post in May after a single season with the Ligue 1 side.[b]The former Leicester City boss returns to the English top flight looking to rescue the London club from a relegation scrap Slavisa Jokanovic has been sacked by Fulham with Claudio Ranieri appointed as the Premier League club's new manager. Corper Dayo was someone who didn't say more than 100
words in a day. Corper Dayo was someone who never
looked for trouble. Corper Dayo was someone who smiled
in French Corper Dayo was someone who always seeked the
face of God.
We the Isaka, Port Harcourt corp members sadly bid
farewell to our friend who was one of us but lost his life last
week Saturday.
Corper Dayo crossed the river to have a haircut in
preparation for the next day (Sunday service) but
unfortunately did no make it back to us after his haircut
because he reached the island and accidentally slipped off
the boat as he was trying to climb up the jetty leading to the
community where we stay. We cried our eyes out in prayers
begging God to rescue him while the searcher swept the
river. Unfortunately according to the wish of God, he was
only found two days after floating in the river. Corper Dayo
was finally laid to rest on 2/09/2016.
We say may his soul rest in perfect peace. AMEN
I also use this medium to urge our fellow corpers who are
posted in riverine area to be very careful and also put on
your life jackets no matter how small the river may be.

Culture / The Great Oba Of Benin Is Dead by feranmmie(m): 7:59pm On Apr 29, 2016 |
– Omo n’Oba Erediauwa Akpolokpolo I is
said to have been battling illness since last
year
– His death was announced by Chief Sam
Igbe, the Iyase of Benin Kingdom
The Oba of Benin, Omo n’Oba Erediauwa
Akpolokpolo I, has been reported dead. His
death was announced few minutes ago by
the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe.
The Great Oba of Benin
Sources report that the late monarch has
been battling an unknown illness since last
year.
The Benin Traditional Council formally
announced the translation of the Oba of
Benin, Omo N’Oba n’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo,
Oba Erediauwa, to his ancestors on Friday,
April 29.
His translation was announced by the Prime
Minister and Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief
Sam Igbe, in the presence of other traditional
Chiefs and Enigie (Dukes), with the traditional
braking of native chalk at the entrance of the
palace.
While announcing the translation, the Iyase
said: “Osorhue Bunrun. Oba Erediauwa of
Benin Kingdom, the Prince if Peace, Ebo,
Ayemwirhe, emini mini mini, has returned with
his ancestors. May he find perfect peace with
God.”
A Naij correspondent in Benin reports that
following the breaking of the native chalk at
the main entrance of the palace, all the
chiefs broke down in tears and wailed for the
translated Monarch.
In accordance with the Benin traditional
mourning rites for a translated Monarch,
every male in the kingdom is expected to
shave his head throughout the mourning
period that may last for up to three months,
while all markets in the kingdom are to
remain closed for about seven days.
The Benin Crown Prince and Edaiken of
Benin, Eheneden Erediauwa, who arrived at
the palace at about 1:10 pm from his
temporary resistance in Uselu, was formally
informed of the translation of his father,
before it was publicly announced.
Reacting to the announcement of the
translation of the Monarch, the
Obadolagbonyi of Benin Kingdom, Chief
Omon-Osagie Utetenegiabi, said: “Yes, it is
traditional. It is customary that when a
sitting Oba becomes an ancestor, translates
to a greater glory. The Oba of Benin does not
die because he is an institution; he mainly
translates to a high glory as an ancestor.
“The news is first broken to his eldest son
and the immediate family which was done
earlier today. And the Iyase of Benin, as the
highest ranking Chief now breaks the news to
the people of Benin Kingdom and the world.
Iyase is the traditional Prime Minister and the
bridge between the people and the royalty
and that is what he has done today.
“From today until the expiration of
‘Emwinekhua’ all Benin Chiefs, all chiefs that
have been entitled by the Oba to wear the
round bead round their necks, which is two,
will now wear one. It is customary because
when you see a Chief wears one bead, it
shows that we are in a state of mourning.
After today, we are awaiting further
instructions on what to do.
“Oba Eredia uwa is the Oba of Peace, the
Oba who brought prosperity to his people,
the Oba who understands his people. He
makes sure that no one was offended, the
Oba who could sit in judgment and give
judgment against his own son for a
commoner. It is rare. Oba Erediauwa is the
best that has happened to Benin Kingdom in
the last 1,600 years.”
In reaction to the announcement of the Oba’s
death, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo
state has eulogised the departed Benin
Monarch, Oba Erediauwa. The Governor
expressed his profound reverence for the
departed Monarch in a press statement he
issued and personally signed.
He described the late Monarch as “an
accomplished Nigerian, a seasoned
bureaucrat, quintessential unifier, unique
personage”.
Oshiomhole said : “Our hearts are heavy,
laden with pains and grief, at the
announcement of the passing on to glory of
Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba
Erediauwa of Benin, our highly revered Oba, a
distinguished Edo numero uno, an
accomplished Nigerian, a seasoned
bureaucrat, quintessential unifier, unique
personage and exemplary Omo N’Oba, whose
reign brought distinction, immense class,
finesse and integrity to traditional institution
in Edo state and the country at large.
“His carriage comes with an élan that was
peculiar with the reverence of royalty. His
uncommon courage was symbolic of the can-
do spirit of the Edo mind. His unity of
purpose was not in doubt even as he used
his revered position to promote constructive
engagement amongst all shades of opinion
and culture in Edo state. As a thorough-bred
bureaucrat, rising to the pinnacle of his
career as a Federal Permanent Secretary, he
understood the dynamics and intricacies of
governance. He was the alternative voice to
the many voiceless in our society, calling
government attention to issues of
development and transparent governance,
without minding whose ox is gored. He was
brave, fearless, punchy and instructive in his
verbal and written messages.
“To us at the Edo state Government, he was
our strongest supporter; both in his
uncommon faith in our ability and his
readiness to offer uncommon advice to
sharpen public discourse in our shared
commitment to transform Edo state. It
gladdens our heart, therefore, that our
revered Oba was alive to witness the positive
transformation of Edo state under his reign,
and for standing with us through thick and
thin in the course of making the Edo economy
a treasure to behold. Being part of that
eloquent history of transformation before his
reunion with his ancestors gives us further
reassurance that he will occupy a special
pride of place in the hereafter.
“We are enveloped with a deep sense of
nostalgia that our great Oba, a great-
grandfather, grandfather, father, uncle and
iconoclastic royal father of exemplary
carriage and conduct, who sustained the
dignity of the average Edo mind, has joined
his ancestors. We are, however, encouraged
by the fact that another great son of the
Great Benin Kingdom, His Royal Highness,
Edaiken N’Uselu, Crown Prince Eheneden
Erediauwa, who is already showing manifest
quintessential attributes of his great father,
will step into his father’s big shoes.
“Edo people will miss our iconoclastic royal
father of the great Benin Kingdom. Nigerians
and Nigeria will miss this great exemplar of a
Royal Father, an Oba of distinction and
integrity. Adieu until we meet to part no
more.
“Oba gha to kpere, ise,” the governor
concluded.
Oba Erediauwa was born in 1923, when in
1979 he ascended the throne of his fathers,
he became the 38th Oba of Benin, traditional
ruler of the Edo people in Benin City, in
Nigeria.
He was formerly addressed as the Prince
Solomon Akenzua, and took on the title Omo
n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa I
after taking over from his father Oba Akenzua
II, in a ceremony held in Benin city, on March
23, 1979.

Crime / My Husband Uses ‘aboniki’ To Have Sex With Me - Housewife by feranmmie(m): 9:00pm On Apr 19, 2016 |
A 43-year-old woman, Omolara Acchoyame, has cried
out to the Igando customary court in Lagos state to
dissolve her 14-year-old marriage.
Omolara who stays in Ibadan dazed everyone in the
court when she narrated how her husband, Solomon
Acchoyame, regularly engages her in a rather tortuous
sexual experience. Omolara said her husband becomes
strange whenever it is time for sex.
Woman pleads with court to dissolve her 14 year-old
marriage
She claimed that he always waits for her to sleep, then
without waking her up, just opens her clothes and has
sex with her, adding that she never enjoyed this. She
said her husband enjoys using aboniki balm,
mentholatum and dusting powder for lubrication during
sex, which made her to detest having sex with him.
She testified that she met her husband 14 years ago and
bore him three children, adding that their major quarrel
was based on the fact that she didn’t know what he’s
doing for a living. “We fought most times before I left home because I don’t know what he does for a living. He goes to his village three times a week and I don’t know the reason for this since his parents are dead and when he comes back, he would say he does not have any money. Health / Health Benefits Of Locust Beans by feranmmie(m): 11:47am On Apr 13, 2016 |
BENEFITS OF LOCUST BEANS... Do you know that locust beans is a food species whose importance is recognized both regionally and internationally? In some societies on the African continent it is not an ordinary food item but a therapeutic food and a source of income. Locust bean, commonly referred to as iru by Yorubas, ‘ogiri’, ‘dawa dawa’ by Igbos, is a local seasoning or condiment used in soups and stews. A very popular soup ingredient, globally, it is referred to as African locust bean with the botanical name as Parkia biglobosa. It is not easy to look at, and the smell is unpleasant – at best. These aside, Locust Bean is the single, most significant ingredient guaranteed to take your soups, stews or mixed vegetables from just okay to great. It can be found in a wide range of environments in Africa and is primarily grown for its pods that contain both a sweet pulp and valuable seeds. The most valuable parts of the locust bean are high in lipid (29%), protein (35%), carbohydrate (16%), and is a good source of fat and calcium for rural dwellers. Locust bean product should be converted into powdery form and packaged into various sizes in plastics for easy distribution. Local research has shown that locust bean helps to promote good sight and drives away hypertension and diseases conditions like stroke and diabetes. It also contains tannins, astringent substances found in many plants. Foods rich in tannins are often recommended for treatment of diarrhoea. The portion of carob that is made into locust bean gum contains soluble fibre in the galactomannan family. Like other forms of soluble fibre, it has shown potential benefit for enhancing weight loss and controlling blood sugar levels. The African locust bean tree has also been found to possess wonders. For instance, the pulverised bark of the tree is employed in wound healing and serves as one of the ingredients used in treating leprosy. The decoction of the bark is also used as bath for fever and as a hot mouth wash to steam and relieve toothache in Cote d’Ivoire. In another result published in Science Journal based in Dakar, Senegal, researchers tried out locust beans on rats to find out whether it actually has any impact on controlling blood pressure and the result obtained showed that adequate doses of locust beans helped to decrease arterial blood pressure. The findings showed that the diastolic blood pressure measurement enjoyed more reduction than even the systolic blood pressure. It also revealed the many wonders of African locust bean tree. The pulverised bark of African locust bean tree, for instance, is employed in wound healing and serves as one of the ingredients that are used in treating leprosy. Locust beans is added to everything – not only because it tastes good and can serve as a tastier alternative to other spices cubes, but also due to its health benefits among which are vision improvement, digestion aid and much more. |

NYSC / INEC Assures Corpers Of Safety In Ife By-election by feranmmie(m): 3:36pm On Apr 08, 2016 |
The Independent National Electoral Commission has
assured the members of the National Youth Service
Corps who will be involved in the conduct of the Ife-
Central state constituency by-election on Saturday of
adequate security.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for the election,
Nasiru Ayilara, gave this assurance while briefing
journalists on the preparedness of the electoral body for
the poll. He said movement would be restricted from 8am to 4pm only in the areas where the election would be held. The seat became vacant following the death of Mr. Oladejo Makinde, who died on December 27, 2015. Makinde, who was also known as Igwe, was the minority leader of the Osun State House of Assembly and won an election into the House on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. Ayilara, who was deployed from Niger State to oversee the by-election holding in just one local government area of Ile-Ife, said the commission had held a meeting with security agencies, adding that he had been assured by security agencies that no form of violence would be allowed during the election. He said, “We have met with all the security agencies in the state and they have assured the commission of the safety of electoral officials, voters and electoral materials. “Corps members and other electoral officials will be protected. We don’t want any of our youths to die and we also don’t want anybody, who will be involved in the conduct of the election, to die.” The REC reiterated that the election would hold in just one local government council even as he said the commission ought not to redeploy him for the election but that it did so because of the historical and political importance of the poll. Ayilara said that card reader machines would be used for accreditation, adding that accreditation and voting would be done simultaneously. The REC, who said materials had been inspected, explained that the materials would be moved to the Ife- Central state constituency on Friday. The representative of the PDP, Mr. Sunday Ademola, while speaking with journalists, expressed satisfaction with the arrangements put in place by the commission. But the representative of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Rasaki Adeosun, expressed reservations with the delay in the movement of the election materials. He said although his party believed that INEC would be fair to all parties but maintained that the materials ought to have been moved immediately after the inspection. Adeosun said, “It is unconventional that we inspect materials today, leave them at the state secretariat of INEC and then wait till tomorrow for the materials to be moved to the field. “We have not done this before; the normal practice is to examine the materials and get them loaded into local government vehicles for movement. When something like this happens, one will be suspicious but we still want to believe that INEC will conduct a credible election.”

A 20-year-old man, Joseph Nanchang, was on Friday
sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Evbouriaria
Magistrates’ Court in Benin for stealing N300,000.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olatoye Oluwaseun, told the court
that the convict with others now at large committed the
crime on February 23 at 18, off Muritala Mohammed Way,
Benin.
Oluwaseun said the convict stole the sum of N300, 000
belonging to one Mrs Victoria Owie.
The convict, of no fixed address, was charged on two
counts of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections
516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 48, Vol. II,
Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976 as
applicable in Edo.
Nanchang, however, pleaded not guilty to the first count
of conspiracy, but accepted his guilt on the second
count of theft.

three years imprisonment without an option of fine. |
Education / UNILAG Orders Students To Vacate Campus Indefinitely by feranmmie(m): 12:03pm On Apr 08, 2016 |
Students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have been
asked to vacate the institution’s Akoka, Yaba campus
with immediate effect.
NAIJ.com’s checks in the institution revealed that some
students had protested the incessant power outage in
the school and poor power supply and had moved to
meet with the management on Thursday, April 7, with a
view to finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
The police vans sighted inside UNILAG on Friday, April 8.
But rather than proffer a solution to the issues raised by
the students, the management of the institution, rising
from an emergency meeting on Thursday, ordered the
students out of the institution while other activities in
the school continues.
In a circular passed on Thursday, the students were
asked to leave the school on or before 10.00 am on
Friday, April 8 until municipal services improve.

Politics / Aluko Recants, Denies Reconciliation With Fayose by feranmmie(m): 11:44am On Apr 08, 2016 |
A fresh twist crept into the reconciliation between
Governor Ayodele Fayose and a former Secretary of the
Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party, Tope Aluko, on Tuesday,
when the latter denied reconciling with Fayose.
This came barely 48 hours after Fayose and Aluko jointly
addressed journalists at the VIP section of the Eko Hotel
and Suites, Victoria Island, on Sunday.
Last year, Aluko alleged that Fayose, with support from
former President Goodluck Jonathan, rigged the
governorship election held on June 21, 2014.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Lagos, Aluko,
however, alleged that he was under duress when he
addressed journalists in company with Fayose.
He added that the event was stage-managed by Fayose
and some PDP chieftains to look like a reconciliation.
He said, “I received a call from two senior members of
the party. One of them is a serving senator and the other
is a former governor. I was told to come to the Eko Hotel
to meet with them and I went in company with my wife.
“We were halfway into the discussion, which they
tagged as a ‘Peace parley’. It should be noted that no
reference was made to the 2014 (Ekiti) governorship
election and the aftermath, including my revelation to
the public about the way the election was rigged in
favour of Ayo Fayose.
“I was shocked to see Governor Fayose walk into the
meeting at this point. I won’t want to bore you with the
drama and the face-off that ensued between me and
Governor Fayose at the meeting.
“It is worthy of note that it was at this point that my wife
barged into the meeting to inform me that she noticed
the presence of pressmen downstairs, saying, ‘there is a
problem’, but Fayose interrupted her and said, ‘Madam,
there is no problem’.
Aluko said he stood by all the allegations he had earlier
made about former President Goodluck Jonathan
assisting Fayose to rig the 2014 Ekiti governorship
election with the provision of security operatives and
funds.
He also said he played along after sensing that his life
might be in danger, but he refused to disclose the
source of danger.
Aluko declined to mention the names of the PDP
chieftains, whom he said invited him to the hotel.
He added, “My wife insisted and said she overheard
them saying that they were called back through an SMS
from Governor Fayose, saying ‘come back because T. K.
Aluko is around’.
“At that point, I became enraged and decided to leave
the place but I noticed Governor Fayose rushing after me
downstairs in a Gestapo manner. My wife was already
fidgeting and was almost crying, and suddenly, I could
not find her around me.
“Immediately, I realised that I needed to obey to
Governor Fayose’s instruction of facing the press
because of the safety of my family.
“One fact remains clear, at no time did I, Temitope
Aluko, refute anything I had earlier said before Nigerians
and the whole world about the manipulations that
characterised the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti
State.
“You will also notice the several counter allegations by
Fayose and his media team that none of them has
refuted all I have said, rather, the attack has been on the
messenger and not the message.”
Apologising to Nigerians for being naïve, Aluko said, “I
will like to apologise to all Nigerians that, perhaps,
accepting the invitation was a tactical error.
“However, I wouldn’t have accepted to attend the
meeting in the first place if I had known that Ayo Fayose
would be in attendance. I only chose to attend in order
to honour the party leaders’ invitation.
“Finally, I need to emphasise that all that transpired at
the Eko Hotel on that fateful day was an organised
propaganda to stain my image and malign my integrity.”
But a statement from the Special Assistant to the Ekiti
State Governor on Public Communications and New
Media, Lere Olayinka, said the state government would
not dignify Aluko with a response.
Olayinka also described Aluko as ‘a perjurer and an
unstable character, who speaks from both sides of his
mouth’.
He said, “As far as we are concerned, the All
Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, which would be
willing to accommodate even Judas Iscariot or the
notorious armed robber, Lawrence Anini, (if he were to
be alive), could keep Temitope Aluko in its fold – that is
their business.
“We don’t want a Judas in the PDP and anywhere near
the government and that has been made clear.”

Politics / 1,634 People Executed In 2015 -report by feranmmie(m): 10:56pm On Apr 06, 2016 |
The total number of known executions worldwide rose by more than half last year to 1,634, the highest figure recorded since 1989, Amnesty International said Wednesday as Pakistan sent three more men to the gallows. The surge was largely fuelled by Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the London-based human rights organisation said in its annual report on death sentences and executions worldwide. The 1,634 figure does not include China, which is thought to have killed thousands of its own citizens. Death penalty data is “treated as a state secret” by Beijing, Amnesty said, as it is by Vietnam and Belarus. Recorded executions were up by 54 percent on 2014’s figure of 1,061. Just three countries — Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia — were responsible for 89 percent of the total of 1,634. “The rise in executions last year is profoundly disturbing,” said Amnesty secretary general Salil Shetty. “Not for the last 25 years have so many people been put to death by states around the world. “Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have all put people to death at unprecedented levels, often after grossly unfair trials. This slaughter must end.” Pakistan lifted a six-year moratorium on the death penalty following a school massacre by Taliban insurgents in December 2014. Initially it brought back hanging just for terrorist killings but later extended it to all capital crimes. It hanged three convicted murderers including a pair of brothers on Wednesday, a senior prisons official told AFP. “Over the past year, Pakistan has vaulted to the number three spot for recorded state executions in the world — a shameful position no one should aspire to,” Champa Patel, director of Amnesty’s South Asia office, told AFP, adding the majority were not convicted of terror offences. Pakistan executed 326 people in 2015 while Saudi Arabia put 158 people to death. – Majority of countries abolitionist -Iran’s execution of at least 977 people is at odds with its opening up to the West after striking a deal with world powers last year on its nuclear ambitions, Amnesty said. “Western countries are starting to build commercial ties and trade missions,” said James Lynch, Amnesty’s Middle East and North Africa deputy director. “However, human rights has been absolutely left in the margins,” he told AFP. “That risks undermining all these efforts.” For the first time ever, the majority of the world’s countries have abolished the death penalty for all crimes. Fiji, Madagascar, Republic of Congo and Suriname fully abolished the death penalty in 2015, taking the total number of countries to do so to 102. In China, Amnesty said there were signs that the number of executions had decreased in recent years but it could not verify this. In August nine crimes were removed from the list of offences punishable by death, bringing the total down to 43. “Executing several thousand people a year is really very serious and China knows it would be the black sheep of the international community if it was to release the numbers,” Nicholas Bequelin, Amnesty’s East Asia regional director, told AFP. People were executed in 25 countries in 2015 by beheading, hanging, lethal injection or shooting. Amnesty said its reports indicated that four people in Iran and at least five in Pakistan were executed for crimes committed when they were aged under 18. Worldwide, people were sentenced to death or executed for murder, drug-related offences, corruption, armed robbery, adultery, aggravated rape, rape, apostasy, kidnapping and insulting the prophet of Islam. A total of 28 people were executed in the United States. Forms of treason, including “acts against national security”, “collaboration” with a foreign entity, “espionage”, “questioning the leader’s policies”, participation in “insurrectional movement” were among those offences worldwide punished with death sentences. Amnesty recorded a drop in the number of death sentences imposed in 2015 compared to 2014, but said this was partly due to difficulties in corroborating data. At least 1,998 people were sentenced to death in 61 countries. At least 20,292 people worldwide were under sentence of death at the end of 2015.[b]The total number of known executions worldwide rose by more than half last year to 1,634, the highest figure recorded since 1989, Amnesty International said Wednesday as Pakistan sent three more men to the gallows. want to address because some people actually
believe it. That my dear friends, is a lie! Please
continue...
First and foremost, I've never met Wizkid one on
one. I've only seen him once in real life on stage
at a show a few years ago. I've never met
anybody who is his director. Guess he put that
line in his comments to defame me. You that
mad that people now know the house is not
yours? Lol.
Trust me, if I knew someone was Wizkid's
director, I'd rather kill myself than sleep with
him or any other entertainer for that matter
(except maybe he's my husband..hehe) because I
know how some of these entertainers are...they
kiss and tell a lot. You can't afford to be
messing around in their circle. So, no, I have
NEVER slept with Wizkid's director. I live a
celibate life..most of the time. (Though, that has
to end soon...I'm getting old and missing out on
that part of life...lol)
I've always been an advocate of women
respecting their bodies and owning their own.
And I feel sex should only happen when you're
in committed relationship (that is if you can't
wait till marriage) and I recommend celibacy for
a long as you're not committed to someone.
There's absolutely no dignity in sleeping around
and messing around with different men. It's ugly
and God don't like ugly. So no, I'm not that
woman, and will never be that woman. Nice try,
Wizkid!
Having said that, I'm sure, you wonder why
Wizkid is so mad at me? To be honest, I don't
know either. All I know is that his beef with me
started a long time ago but he decided to start
bashing me online after I refused a meeting with
him. A few months ago, he asked his PR people
to contact me, that he wanted to talk to me. For
some reason, he thought I didn't like him and I
was hurting his image online. He wanted to see
how I could write more positive things about him
but I turned down the meeting. Not that I have
anything against him, I sincerely don't! I think
he's an amazing talent and one of the few music
stars in Nigeria with a midas touch. So this
wasn't personal. I just didn't want to meet him.
If he lobbies me then it means I won't be able to
write anything about him anymore...and my job
is to write...about everything, including
entertainers.
I am cordial with some of them...many of them I
have never met. I try to stay away from
gatherings where they are because the more
friends you make in the entertainment industry,
the less you can write. And that will
inadvertently affect your work. The few ones that
I call acquaintances, it's hard to write about
them because you feel you're cool with them and
even when you write, they call you to complain.
So, the fewer 'friends' I have in the
entertainment industry, the better my job will be.
So Wizkid can bash me all he wants...but I will
continue to do my job. Maybe he thinks the
more he bashes me, then I will stop writing
about him? Won't work. But meanwhile, if he
tells a lie about me, I will address it. LIB plans
to be around for a long time...some of these
people will come and go! .
Thanks everyone and Wizkid fans for reading my
response.
Oh and by the way, did I mention that his
Porsche car is also on hire purchase? Oh shit, I
just mentioned that! Lol. And no, darling, you're
not 25! We know your real age! Continue to have
an amazing career while I watch and continue to
celebrate you.
