It was very clearly stated in the manga that the Sage sealed the Juubi into his body after his fight with it. When he grew old and was close to death, he divided up the chakra of the Juubi into nine tailed beasts using his ocular powers to create the bijuu then sealed the body of the Juubi into a rock that he blasted into the sky which became the moon. Then he gave his body to the younger son and entrusted his will to him and his eyes to the elder.

For the sealing, me thinks he didn't need the body. All he needed was its life and power source and he got it.

Lol. Y'all need to see the page again? Naruto radiated out to chakra hands, one grabbed Sasuke and the other took Yondaime by the shoulder. Minato made the remark about Naruto keeping up with Sasuke because that was very quick thinking - he wouldn't have gotten to them in time and they needed to have contact with him or his chakra to get out of dodge.
