kabe1:Thanks, do you have the email address? |
Yesterday I posted an article about a Kenyan manufactured clone/look-a-like/tweaked version of m16 and m4 carbine assault rifles from my other account @Stargate254 and that post dissapered and I didn't have the strength to retype my comment. Anyone know what causes nairaland servers/web hosting servicees to behave like this? |
Raaven:The Kenyan deal is still at early stages of the tendering, bidding will happen in June next year, so at this point the tender is opened to anyone so it can't be Kenya. The $110m Otokar's order is at the tail end of procurement, all is left is training and delivery. |

I have never understood why my country Kenya has some wired love-hate relationship with Iran, [One time we are seeking to buy all our oil from them and other times we are accusing them of sending IRGC Quds force to bomb us in acts of terror) now I'am beginning to get it. In early 1978, Kenyan-Iranian relations came under great strain over the Ogaden war between Ethiopia and Somalia.. . . With Somali forces falling back in the Ogaden, Kenya feared that President Siad Barre of Somalia might attempt to save face by launching an attack on the North Eastern Province of Kenya using arms from Iran.read the rest here: https://www.nation.co.ke/news/politics/Ogaden-war-pushed-Kenya-and-Iran-to-sever-ties/1064-5423006-gkcwbgz/index.html |
Tinfoil:those are your thoughts. But if you wanna deal with facts, just try googling a couple of articles that are talking about the attack, bring me any from a reputable source that says the words 'US base' .. most of them use the words "joint military base used by Kenyan and U.S. forces" that should tell you something about how it's operated. There are 4 main strategic installations at/around the base, The airstrip which has its traffic control office, a jetty on the sea side , an anti-terrorism training center (which is actually just a school regular looking school), The school is on the Kenyan side, and the command center, that coordinates day to day activities including the joint training. {all those 4 utilities are shared between the two}. Also, Part of Kenya special forces training rotation includes spending a few weeks at the Manda Naval Base , but most of the field training happens at the sea since 2011 after Kenya went to Somalia, They no longer conduct joint training on Land at the base anymore. The Americans also have a Cessna spy-plane that they do manned patrols along the Somali's coast (the Kenyans don't get directly involved in this, they only get reports afterward -Probably after the Americans deduct whatever spy stuff they are doing in Somalia - This is what I was told by a relative of mine who spent some time there). The reason they gave is something about operational security blah blah blah, So after the Kenyans complained about being left out the America did eventually detonate 2 similar planes to the Kenya to do their own surveillance with. This is one of the Cessna 208 surveillance aircraft that was given to Kenya , This pic was taken at Malindi airstrip which is like a 30min flight from Lamu, but atleast one of the Kenyan Cessna operates/operated (It could be one of the aircrafts that were destroyed yesterday) from Manda Naval base's airstrip. A Cessna 208B Caravan light aircraft donated to the Kenyan military by the United States Defence Security Cooperation Agency (USDSCA) refuels at Malindi airstrip. The aircraft was converted into an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform by L-3 Communications and features a gyro-stabilized electro optical and infrared (EO/IR) camera as well as communication interception technology. Kenya has been embattled with terrorism threats and Islamic extremism throughout the coastal region, with townships like Lamu and Malindi which lie close to the Somali border being particularly affected.

kabe1:Think of it like a big circle then a small circle inside it. Or a rectangle which has been been partioned in the middle but for you to get to the American part you'll have to go through the kenyan side first. Camp Simba was established in 2004 but the origins of the Naval base go back the days of said barres autocratic regime which had then threathed on several occasions to take control of Southern Kenya's sea claiming it was rightfully theirs, a maritime dispute that is still in contention even as we speak. After he was overthrown the fear then was that other radical factions might have chosen to take matters into their own hands. A secondary school in Lamu was burnt down by a faction of somalis forces then. Manda Bay's origins tell you everything you need to know about why the |
kabe1:the airstrip is so unsecured that when a US plane is scheduled to land, their personell on the ground strategically place themselves around the runway so that there aren't any suprises from the bush. Anyway, about your MRAP, there are far more battle tested MRAPs from around the world, why should Kenya buy yours over all the other options? |
kabe1:once again, the airstrip is not in the base. You see this pic here below, that perimeter wall is where the base is, where the smoke is coming from is the airstrip which is usually has very basic security no more than you would find in a civilian airport. If you look at the pics you posted you will even see it,it's bush then barbed wire , then the airstrip with some floodlights... That's all the security there is... Just like you would see in civilian airstrip... This is not standard KDF security installation you would find in a base.
|
kabe1:The airstrip is not part of the base, it's adjacent to the base near Manda civilian airport. Alshabaab was planning to gain access to the base through the airstrip which is not heavily fortified. Anyway about the camp, It's a Kenya Navy base, inside the base, there is another compound that houses the US military personnel. |

Kismayo (Somalia's second largest city) has been relatively more peaceful for the last 7 years (with only one successful major attack)... Even better, the local Juballand government practically runs on its own two feet in controlling the town (From administrative duties like tax collection to security and police, intelligence...etc) AMISOM presence is virtually non-existent within the city. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH6f0azpOrg |
AMISOM with the Support of the Somali people have really done a great job in restoring sanity in Somalia, I bet most of you never imagine this is how Mogadishu and Somalia is like today before you watching this video . Given the fact that whenever you see Somalia in any news headline or report 99.9% of the time its about war or Suicide attacks, I thought it would be refreshing to share what happens next after relative peace is restored to a war zone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buY4jQ4vpm0 |
So the Dusit Incident and the swift reaction and resolve by security forces didn't go entirely unnoticed in the global diplomatic an IC community. On peace and security, President Putin commended Kenya for her steadfastness in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in Eastern and the Horn of Africa region.Indeed, we must have gotten better, I hope we will see some joint Kenya-Russia Or even Africa Russia joint training exercises in the future, from the pics I have seen on twitter, looks like most African countries attended the first Africa-Russia Summit. pic 1 to 3 was during the bilateral meeting with the Kenyan delegation where Putin said those words. (Notice how Putin maintains strong eye contact when he is listening, thats gangsta right there, most presidents avoid making long eye contact)

kabe1:FYI the number of locally assembled vehicles in Kenya were more than 10,000 per year by 2016... They import component kits then , tires and the body (especially trucks and buses) are fabricated locally ... https://www.nation.co.ke/business/Kenya-assembled-vehicles-hit-10-000-units-on-tax-incentive/996-3196506-view-asAMP-n32njd/index.html Infact just two days ago Toyota added the Hilux model among the locally assembled vehicles, We are at the stage were we are ready to go to the next stage of components manufacturing i.e electric cables, spare parts, windows, then on to the next stage... "As we implement the “Buy Kenya” agenda, we expect the private sector to reciprocate by investing in full automotive manufacturing; form joint ventures, training and building the capacity of local Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to provide local content inputs,” the President said. The President challenged Toyota to scale up its investments in Kenya from assembling vehicles to tier one component manufacturing and the eventual establishment of a fully integrated vehicle manufacturing plant in the country. He said the government is putting together a National Automotive Policy as part of measures to support local vehicle manufacturers and instructed Trade, Industry and Cooperatives CS Peter Munya to present the policy to Cabinet for approval within three weeks. “The overall objective of the policy is to provide our domestic industry with opportunities to achieve competitiveness in manufacturing of automotive and parts products,” the President saidThose assembled cars may not be "local" but to say that Kenya doesnt have a vehicle industrial complex would be false. pics was during the launch of the Hilux model two days ago.

samorobo:You don't see me here 24/7 trying to prove/disprove something that your fellow countrymen have failed to prove for 5 years now (That's how long ago this thread started!).. Just imagine if this thread was between Kenya Vs Egypt or SA..... We (Kenyans) would have been crushed ruthlessly, by the second page of the thread! we would have crawled back to our cocoons and went into hibernation, but here we are on this thread, 5 years later, The biggest oil producer in Africa and the country with the highest GDP in Africa(Nigeria) being challenged by a tiny (relatively speaking) country called Kenya which has a GDP 5 times less! Just how embarrassing is that?? The fact that this thread is still active is enough proof that the title of this thread is true cause if it wasn't the thread would have gone cold after a few months of being posted! |
