Having seen their armed forces equipment frankly they should first prioritise conventional units and platforms. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armed_Forces_of_the_Republic_of_Ivory_Coast

Their AFVs are scant and they still have T 59s-in coy strength!? Their AF has one alpha jet and 5 choppers. Do you really think Jean-Fraude will PROPERLY train Ivorienne or any other French Afrique specops? It can cost up to 200k$ to train one spec operator-can you trust the French to do so,especially given their recent history in country?
I know I wouldn't.
I'm just saying, that training facility is the BOM and those SF guys look like they know what they are doing... That's all am saying

I'm not doing PR for anyeffinone but EMWO1 Idk you've seen things in toto. The tri services are 24k in number with a budget of 1.1 bn$. All pay, training, operations eg,fuel, oil, lubricants for all IFVs,tanks, planes etc etc, procurement, welfare eg, health and housing come from this figure. A breakdown looks like this US def budget 2014. That figure looks good in Africa-(compare with Ug,Gh,Naij,RSA etc etc only the last outdoes us but Algeria breaks the bank!)but its actually ONLY adequate in the wider world-you can mainly maintain and train with present platforms and replace attrition but heavy metal remains a dream!

This site is an agglomeration of weapons system prices-look at the new Rudra.

http://nationsdawnofanera.weebly.com/-helicopters.html

15 mn$ at 1.5 mn yearly to operate. A squadron of 12 would cost would cost 180$ and another 20 mn $ yearly to operate.

People always screech for FSBs like Sues but a SU 30 MK3 costs 75 mn$ and 8 mn annually-btw,I'm told M7 s Sues are sitting on the apron but can't confirm. Point being we're more or less at optimum utilisation with our budget. For more increase budget by 300-400 mn$ for 3-5 years. Then you'll see lift and FSBs.
Defence Health Program $33B shocked wah!
I remember During operation Linda Nchi, after we Joined Amisom, they refused to incorporate the airforce and Navy into Amisom yet they were very crucial in the capture of Kismayu, I remember it was quoted that the navy needed around 10Million KSH a week just to to keep the boats floating at he sea...

KDF's first Cadet Family Day on Saturday, 15 June 2019.

The Cadet Family Day is geared towards increasing the level of parents’ involvement in the training of the cadets. Given that the process character development in a cadet is one of the main components of training, parents come in handy considering that they are the primary initiators of this process. Through the Family Day, parents also get a feel of and appreciate the rigorous nature of training their children go through.

Speaking during the occasion, the Deputy Commandant of the Academy Brigadier Patrick Muteti emphasized the need for parents to be fully involved in the lives of their children as they transition from being civilians to soldiers. “Cadet training is not a walk in the park. It entails changes in the physical, mental and emotional status of a person and as such, support especially from parents is indispensable,” he said, adding that all this is aimed at making an outstanding military commander.

During the occasion, the cadets treated their parents to a day-long display of military skills they have already learnt in tackling the enemy in all fronts; land, sea and air other than displaying colourful parade skills

That $100 m is allocated to the department of looting and stealing. They always get the highest allocation for 'modernisation' . How else could you expalain how some of these army guys on a modest salary are now able to buy properties in Runda and Muthaiga.Lets not kid ourselves there is nothing that is being purchased with that kitty. The NIS is also gets close to $300 m a year too, another cashcow hidden under the veil of national security.
You don't have to tell me twice, my family is loosely related to a certain Navy generals family, and the kids of that general definitely live beyond their means
But relatively speaking, in terms of hamorraging tax payers money, DoD looks like a saint compared to other ministeries ... The Auditor general can usually account for more than 85% of DoD's budget while the rest is usually traced back to bad procurement decisions i.e when the IG took issue with the purchase of the Chinese made WZ551s which had nuts and bolts that caught rust then started leaking water inside... While othe ministries like Health can't account for more than 50% of their budgets! No paper trail, no reciets, just a signed document that mentions what they 'spent the money on'

Here is the screenshot of the last gov audit of DoD.... Its two pages...... While you might think that this is bad, the ministry of interior on the other hand is a hell-hole, they have like 20 pages listing all the nasty stuff ... like how they award multiple contracts for non existent projects or they (National Police Service) illegally deducted $2 million from recruits allowance for 'haircut and medical bills' during basic training..... And worse, they told (more like coerced) the recruits to sign papers that confirmed that they received all their allowance!!!!

I had no idea the Spec Ops and Spec Ops capable numbers had been beefed up! Ideally they should have their own air:some Hinds for hot LZs and MD 530s for a couple of skid riders and some 295s for para ops.
I did see one Z9 chopper in the background though, it can carry about 6 troops right?

Every year since 2013, KDF has been given an extra $100m (Ksh10B) called "mordernization kitty" I have always held the view that instead of trying to distribute that money around every department ending up in a situation where no dept has the financial muscle to buy anything significant they should have instead gave it all to one department then the following year another department.. and so forth so that in 1 financial year, the airforce alone gets that extra $100m to buy any toys they want, then next year Navy gets their moment and then the specOps regiment also get the same ...

Anyway, about specOps numbers bieng increased, the interview of the vice chief did hint that he recognised the significance of specOps in anti-terrorism operations in today's world .. and the fact that he visited the same camp twice in a few years and took group photos probablably means he has vested interest in the success of that unit.
Also on the home front, the current IG of police is former NIS, he also once said he has worked with recce squad in the past in various operation and had alot of respect for those guys, I hope he meant to back that up with more resources now that he is their boss.

If the Somali mission is really ending in 2021 like they say then apart from training enough Somali troops to take over, these last years there should be a significant change in mode of operation... That means more of 'operation sledge hammer' type of intelligence-led raids, but this time instead of one target in one night, they should gather intel for a couple of months on all the last remaining AS strongholds then plan for a couple more months then in one very long night, execute one of the largest mission led by specOps ... Something like 20 raids all synced to the same clock aimed at where the high value targets are suspected of hiding! While other regular troops go for training camps, other hide outs, then from the air, airforce will have its own set of targets ........ Basically, End the mission with a big bang !
Not only will that end the threat of AS bieng able to get back up and grow yet another head for a long time but in the process of executing that mission, it will also further enhance KDF capability of conducting a large scale 'invasion level' coordinated mission involving lots of moving parts. After that they can claim that all their equipment ' no longer work ' and airforce has grounded most of the jets for bieng old... Parliament and the general public will be more than willing (more like guilted into) to give them whatever they want without protest .

Those are the 30th Spec ops btn. Long Range Surveillance is one if their primary roles. Only they and the Rangers have the SCAR H.
That's an abstract way of looking at it ... Its like looking at a sniper unit and saying snipping is one of the roles of special ops unit .... That would be true but a specific unit called sniper unit would abviously be more 'specialized' in sniping.

The 30th specOps , the LRS unit, 40th ranger strike force and the 20th parachute batallion all wear green berets and together all fall under SOR ... The LRS members are picked from the various specOps units but they do get further specific training specific for that role.

Look at this Ex-KDF LinkedIn profile, He describes himself as Former Special forces but but specialising specifically in LRS

Wow rifle scopes must really be something of necessity in Kenyan army
On the last pic, That's not a regular camp, They are known as "Long Range Surveillance Unit" , Sometimes they work with millitary intelligence guys in smaller units. They are expected to go deep into enemy lines,
and disappear for days or even weeks at times. ........ observee and report back to HQ and avoid contact with the enemy or even the local population at all times, as long as possible ..

So because of the nature of their roles, they require a higher level of personal Security PERSEC than regular units.

The five primary missions of LRS unit are surveillance, zone and area reconnaissance, target acquisition, and target interdiction. Combat assessment/battle damage assessmen
Basically they do the work of UAV drones but from the ground.

You said poor soil ? Algerian agriculture in the sahara desert grin
hardship or circumstances forces people to be creative and innovative ...

The problem with Kenya is that for a long time we have been dependent of rain for agriculture and each new decade there is less rain ..... and although 70% of the land mass is considered semi-desert, the other 30% is in good condition and this factor influenced alot of ethnic groups to settle in these areas long time ago .. the populations that settled in the fertile areas had plenty of resources so they reproduced while the semi-desert areas didn't and ended up bieng very minority ....

So you have a situation in Kenya where 75% of the countries population occupying and cramping only 30% of the country's land mass where it's fertile, while in the semi arid areas you have very sparsly populated areas with large chunks of land completely unoccupied

Kenya 3D version of Population Density

This is why the government started the lapsset project.... A totally new economic corridor that will touch every corner of this 70% of previously under utilized land mass, opening doors for new development potential....
Also, nowadays when you travel across the country you see lots of greenhouses used by small scale farmers, but we haven't got to the level of large scale plantations yet.

After all is said and done, this is how you measure the true living standards of a country's people, not with GDP or per capita..etc

http://hdr.undp.org/en/composite/IHDI

Human Development Index (HDI)
The HDI was created to emphasize that people and their capabilities should be the ultimate criteria for assessing the development of a country, not economic growth alone. The HDI can also be used to question national policy choices, asking how two countries with the same level of GNI per capita can end up with different human development outcomes. These contrasts can stimulate debate about government policy priorities.

And besides that, each police station has two land cruisers which also come with spare tires each, those police land cruisers have the same tire size number as the pictured APC, so they cas as well use those as temporary replacement...

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/2PcFURLhyug/maxresdefault.jpg

On one hand the politician who reported this had his own agenda (he wants local police reservists to be re-armed - They were disarmed by govt because local polititians used to have influence over them)

But then again on the other hand I see negligence on this police station, The spare tire on the back of the vehicle wasn't even used, plus, if a vehicles is going to stall for that long, shouldn't you avoid letting the vehicle sit on the good tires for long period ? by the time they "fix the bad tire", the rest of the good tires will all probably need replacement, and if one tire was a problem they gonna have 3 more ploblems after they solve the first one!

Whats the equipments, weapons on it ?
I only knew of a Naval gun on the front side, The weapon highlighted is a recent addition I don't know what else was upgraded .. its is one of those Close-in Weapon System CIWS controlled by a fire control Radar to automatically fire at incoming missiles or fast projectiles ,incoming enemy helicopters... etc ...

If i'm correct, it's a Russian AK-630

The AK-630 is a Soviet and Russian fully automatic naval close-in weapon system based on a six-barreled 30 mm rotary cannon. In "630", "6" means 6 barrels and "30" means 30 mm. It is mounted in an enclosed automatic turret and directed by MR-123 radar and television detection and tracking. The system's primary purpose is defense against anti-ship missiles and other precision guided weapons. However it can also be employed against fixed or rotary wing aircraft, ships and other small craft, coastal targets, and floating mines. Once operational, this weapon system was rapidly adopted, with up to 8 units installed in every new Soviet warship (from mine-hunters to aircraft carriers), and hundreds produced in total

A messy and Fuc'd up historical account of why Mombasa came to earn its name which means "The Island of war"

https://twitter.com/HistoryKE/status/1130905485463441408

As I conclude, we know that the Mombasa old town was called Mvita. As I have reported before, the first Commissioner of the East Africa Protectorate, Sir Charles Eliot, describing Mombasa, wrote thus, “In virtue of the advantage of its position, it's good climate and fine harbors, Mombasa was the most important point, yet it cannot be said to have been the political center of the surroundings. It was simply the place which was most fought about and often burnt”.
“The native name Mvita means war, and never was a name more justified by history. There can hardly been a town in the world which has been besieged, captured, sacked, burnt and razed to the ground so often and in so short a time...”
During his second and third voyages Vasco da Gama used his superior fire power and heinous human rights abuses to subdue his enemies in the Indian Ocean and for the next 100 years the Portuguese were masters of the region. In the course of this period, the Portuguese had an unfortified factory in Malindi as their main base.

It was not until the Turkish raids of 1585 and 1588 that the Portuguese decided to build a fort at Mombasa harbour. At the orders of King Philip 1 of Portugal, it was built between 1593 and 1596 to guard the Old Port of Mombasa. On 11th April, 1593 the fort was dedicated and named “Fortaleza de Jesus Mombaca” by Mateus de Mendes de Vasconcelos (who was then Captain of the coast and resided in Malindi).
........
Relations between the Portuguese and the Sultan of Mombasa began to deteriorate after the departure of the first captain Mateus. In 1631, the Sultan of Mombasa, the Goa-educated Muhammad Yusif entered the fort and took the Portuguese by surprise, killing the captain, Pedro Leitao Gamboa and the whole Portuguese population of Mombasa (45 men, 35 women and 70 children). Between 1631 and 1895 Fort Jesus was captured and recaptured between the Arabs and Portuguese a total of nine times. After the Portuguese recaptured it in 1632, they refurbished it and built more fortifications making it more difficult to penetrate.

Ultimately the fort was subject to an epic siege by the Omani Arabs led by Saif bin Sultan, from 1696-98 marking the end of Portuguese dominance at the coast. The Portuguese recaptured the fort briefly between 1728 and 1729 with the help of Swahili States. The fort came under local control when the people of Mombasa recaptured it in April 1729 before the Omanis re-took it in 1837 converting it into barracks.

When Kenya was proclaimed a Protectorate on 1st July, 1895 the fort fell under British command and was converted into a prison.

Today the fort combines Portuguese, Arab and British elements and is the most visited tourist attraction in Mombasa. The most noticeable feature are the 56 Portuguese and British cannons which are beautifully restored and mounted in the courtyard with some facing the Indian Ocean as they would have done during engagement. The British cannons are known as carronades and have a shorter barrel than the Portuguese cannons. Oman Arabs marked their presence with numerous inscriptions from the Koran on the walls.

Yeah as factual as some of them might be some are still truth bro
Next time you see some funny story from Kenya, go and try to google the same on the internet, 90% of the time you will find it originated from some entertainment blog-site . Blog-sites are not held to any journalistic integrity of counter checking their sources or having evidence to back it up. An event could happen in Ghana, Zimbabwe, Uganda.. One week you see a story about a woman who threw herself into a well in Ghana, Next week you read about a woman who was thrown in to a well in Kenya... Both stories using same image!! and only the names of the people are different....

I mean, look at the so called light from heaven image in this very thread.... If that really happened everyone you see from that picture would either be looking up or running away thinking Jesus was coming, But no one is even looking up...... Which means the camerathat took this photo was the one which was in the wrong/right angle in relation to the sun and those were just camera lens bending light causing that effect ... And someone has decided to fabricate and interestring story about it to attract views in his blogsite..

Am sure those who've studied photography have a name for it, here is another image where sunlight causes a camera lens to have affect on an image the same way
