Hello Guys. My peugeot 306 Auto xu10 engine has been shorting engine oil for sometime now without any visible leakage point or droppings under the car. Even when I top it, it shorts again after few days.
Pls what could be the culprit?

Hello Nlanders, I have diifficulty in determining the appropriate class for my 2 and a half year old.
Got contradicting suggestions from the different schools we have tried to register him. Some suggests Pre-nursery since he hasn't been to school while others think he can cope in a nursery 1 class.

Car TalkRe: How Reliable Is Peugeot 306 by filcast(m):
Hey, why all the fighting? Its a happy day!
The best car (and peugeot!) money can buy! The proudest owner around. Bought mine (XU10J4R) in 2009 and have enjoyed every (...well almost every) moment of it and still counting!
But for a nasty collission with a heavily loaded J5 along the Kaduna-zaria express, I wouldn't have appreciated the ruggedity and stability of the Lion. The J5 sommersulted multiple times, my car made do with a 180 degrees swerve. That day I understood the benefit of seatbelt. An act of God though.
The only problem is car is not meant for every road side mechanic.
Listen...I will not sell this car for N2m! All am thinking of is how to restore it to default. Ikenna pls assist me.

Ikenna351: For Peugeot owners in Abuja, I have a good news for you guys.

Not long ago, a good friend of mine in Bida, a lecturer actually, asked me to come down to Bida and educate a small community of Peugeot owners in Bida DIY tips, preventative maintenance, etc, to help them understand their Lions better and keep them on the road as long as it takes without dramas they face each time they visit auto mechanics and electricians. My friend was willing to organize the meet, if I could say yes. Of course, I said yes, but have not fixed the date. Probably, will travel to Bida for it when I start my annual leave.

It got me thinking that we could actually start off such meet in Abuja. Seeked opinion from some Peugeot owners in Abuja and they all liked the idea.

Friends of mine have promised to secure a place in town for it. I have picked Saturday morning for it, I mean, every Saturday morning, 9-11 am or so. We are still working on it. As soon as the venue/hall is secured, will let you guys know. We may even start the meet next week Saturday.

We are going to educate ourselves what and how it takes to keep our Lions in good shape, with powerpoint presentations and demonstration. Also, some basic troubleshooting tips on Peugeot cars and how not to introduce nightmares for ourselves in our Lions. How to know when what is faulty without use of diagnostic tool, especially when stranded on a journey. Its going to be interactive.

I have spoken with a Peugeot Automatic transmission Specialist who operates in Markudi, Abuja and environs. He is willing to come and educate us on how to maintain Peugeot Auto transmission and what ATF available in Nigeria to use for these transmissions like AL4, ZF trans & AM6. With time we will invite other specialists in Peugeots to come and educate and share their knowledge with us. GAZZUZZ take note. Hope you won't turn down our invitation? cheesy We need to tap that knowledge of yours in Peugeot a little. Lol!

By the way, at the end of every meet, there will be a free scan for everyone interested for FREE, with PP2000. So, you can always use every Saturday to check the health of your Lion.

Anyway, will give you guys feedback by Sunday, as soon as we conclude on the venue with my friends that want to secure it for us. If it works out, then it will start next Saturday, by the Grace of God.

Ikenna
hello ikenna, wish you can get this kind of meet down to Enugu. Remember charity begins at home!
Btw do you know of any Lion dealership in Enugu?

Ikenna351: Sometime early last year, I bought my Everstart battery 12k. 75 Ah, though.

As for the spark plug, the Peugeot part number of spark plug for your engine is 5960 15. I wouldnt know if its Copper or Platinum. Platinum cost more though, about 2k each.

Ikenna
Great! Thanks a lot ikenna.

simplyaroy: May the souls of the Departed Rest in Peace. The Afrika guy seemed like a Real Fighter. He could have made a difference if he were alive today. Nigeria surely needs more of his kind. That said...

OAU has never been a stronghold of 'cultism' (and I'd use confraternities or more simply frat hence because its more appropriate), but that after the '99 massacre, there were no frat boys in OAU is very misleading. I was surprised to meet a few NBM boys some years back from OAU who finished in the new Millenia... Brilliant Chaps I must add. Considering that the HIT was allegedly pulled by NBM boys, that's says a lot. They just went underground, nothing more.

I have always been anti-violence no matter who the giver or recipient is. If you would learn one thing and one thing only about Frat boys, know this, THEY HAVE HUGE OVER-INFLATED EGOs. No matter the Frat. That maximum shi-shi must have been very demeaning. And might I add unneccesary. If they weren't actively breaking the law, then they are just regularly students who should be left alone. Might I add that the same thing happened in LASU, Feb 13th 2003. Comrade Tunde Salau, the SUG president, was gunned down allegedly by NBM boys. What did he do too? He was witch hunting them and using the maximum shi shi approach. I have never seen where two wrongs made a right.

The Violence in their ranks is a reflection of the Nigerian society. I'm not the President but I'd rather seek to control than Proscribe this fraternities. Babaginda tried proscription in 89, look at where that got us.

A lady mentioned that Frat boys are sad, forced in joining, regret joing, drug-addicts, violence loving, sociopaths. I have never seen assumptions so far from the truth. Another said she wishes them death. I'm sure your brother or cousin will be the first to die. Its the sad Irony of life.

Never Again!!! May this incident never again happen on our campuses. While remembering the departed 5, let's take the lessons and implement them. Long Live Nigerian Students. Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta
though you tried to maintain a fair line, you are obviously an ex-cultist. I won't judge you cos am not perfect either but I think you will help the younger generation more if you condemn this brand of 'frat' practised in our schools.

@Ikenna & Wisesystem,
I wish to thank you guys for your support all through my travails. Goodnews is I made it to lagos 12.30pm yesterday without much difficulties. The only issue I had was with hilly terrains where the car seemed to struggle.
Please can you guys help with good Peugeot workshops in Lagos? I want to have them diagnose and perform an overall maintenance on the car because a lot of improvisation were carried out in the course of finding solution to the problem.
Regards.

wisesystem: @ Filcast. True talk here, if you come out of this ... and I know you will, one lesson you will do well to take to heart is to be choosy about who you let open your bonnet. Always insist on a Peugeot mech who knows his 'onions'. Just follow all you ve been told and you will be home and dry...
am very grateful bro. Sure I learnt from my mistakes. I will do. The needful once am in lag
Car TalkRe: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by filcast(m): 7:42pm On Jan 07, 2014
Ikenna351: Forget about adding coolant to the cooling system right now. It's not the water that is causing the overheating, but air pocket and loss of fluid because the system is not sealed and have not been bleeded, probably.

You cant just seal off all the cooling system lines/hoses. The fluid circulates in the engine via those lines. It will make more sense to replace the leaking lines or fix the leaking spots than block them all.

Stop the leak and bleed the system. Even if you fix the leak without bleeding the system, the overheating won't stop.

You really need a Peugeot mechanic to handle that car.

Ikenna
Thanks a lot ikenna. This morning they brought an 'expert' to reset the timing belt and the system has picked since then.they also replaced some of the lines and bled the system. The overheating have stopped but the engine is still not firing like it used to.Anyway,I plan to hit the road tommorow. I have learnt my lesson-when I get to lagos I will visit a good peugeot workshop for a thorogh diagnostics.
Car TalkRe: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by filcast(m): 11:02am On Jan 07, 2014
wisesystem: Wow! really sad news my Brother. However am quite confused with the issues you are attributing your AC leak with ... 'Burnt head gasket'? 'Constant shortage of oil'. Cant see the correlation here. Is your mechanic a Peugeot mechanic? If yes, could he simply scan the car for you using a pp2000? One of the first things I learnt on this thread is not to listen to everything our mechanics say. And if possible scan the car before your return trip.

@ Ikenna, this Bro needs you...
thanks bro.he said he is peugeot mechanic but I ve reasons to doubt that.most of these mistakes have been made.all I want now is to manage this car from onitsha to lagos.
Car TalkRe: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by filcast(m): 10:57am On Jan 07, 2014
Ikenna351: Loss of coolant has nothing to do with shortage of oil. They are two different problems.

The 2 hoses on the firewall from cylinder head/radiator, do not take coolant to the Evaporator. Rather, to the heater matrix. If I had seen this ealier, I would have suggested you block those two lines, pending when you fix the leak or replace the leaking lines.

Ikenna
yes u are right, they are for the heater-i didn't know earlier. Well, right now the gasket has been changed, the two lines blocked but some water lines are still dripping water and the temp is still at 'danger' range.
I want them to seal off all water leakages first and then take it from there.
Pls can u advise me on the proper use of radiator coolant. I ve not been using it but just bought one from Total here in onitsha.
Guys help me o,am stranded here in onitsha!

filcast: Hello house, I have observed that water collects under the foot mart of the passenger side of my 306.I Suspect it could be from the cooling system but am not actually vast in this area.
unfortunately I couldn't get back sooner due to poor network etc. The Problem has lead to the burning of my head gasket(according to the mechanic). The leakage persisted whenever the a/c was on and proceeded to burst the pipe (I think carries water from the radiator to the evaporator or so). There are actually two of such pipes but the mecho says one is for the heater or so.the pipes are visible when you open the bonnet and appear to be going beneath the dashboard.
These led to bursting and leakage of some other pipes and constant shortage of oil and finally to the burning of the head gasket.
Now the solution being offered by the mecho is to seal off all leaking radiator pipes, use a new pipe to connect the two pipes I described earlier to each other (he claims this is better than pulling down tghe dashbord and that the only downside is that the heater will no longer function but) and replace the head gasket.
I need to agree to these,at least to be able to get to Lagos where I can seek further assistance.

wisesystem: In my case it was a result of the AC water hose not fitted properly where it was supposed to dispense water from the AC out, under the car. Realised no water came of from under my car after hours of using the AC, had to access the hose bringing water out of my car by removing the coin box located near the gear and unscrewing the screws that hold the compartment shielding the AC water hose located underneath the gear lever( for 406). But all this would only be necessary if no water comes from underneath your car after continuous use of the AC.
You could also trace the source of the water while the AC is on by feeling for wetness from the foot-rug upwards. If the wetness goes up into your car dashboard then it could be something more complex that the Gurus in the house could suggest. In my case though it was the AC hose which I solved by fitting it back properly with glue, the total cost being two hundred naira.

@ Ikenna, Morn, still waiting for your informed suggestions on what may be the cause of my car radio not able to get local stations or any for that matter. Its been that way since it came. Cheers!
ok thanks.I ll try the DIY things u suggested and report back here. The problem is am still in the village and won't like to engage any mechanic till I get back to lagos.
