Peace to all men of goodwill |
This message to the world needs to be on the front page please. |
VATICAN CITY (AFP) – Pope Francis called on Friday for “mutual respect” between Christianity and Islam and an end to “unfair criticism” in a personal message congratulating Muslims on the feast of Eid al-Fitr. “We are called to respect the religion of the other, its teachings, its symbols, its values,” he said in a statement distributed by the Vatican press office. “I have decided to sign this traditional message myself and to send it to you, dear friends, as an expression of esteem and friendship for all Muslims, especially those who are religious leaders. “We all know that mutual respect is fundamental in any human relationship, especially among people who profess religious belief,” he said. The statement was addressed “To Muslims Throughout the World” and the Vatican explained that the message has been traditional since 1967 but only John Paul II in 1991 previously sent a similar personal message. The feast of Eid al-Fitr celebrates the end of Ramadan for all Muslims, a period of prayer and fasting. Francis has called for stronger ties with Islam and the saint he chose for his pontifical title, St Francis of Assisi, is widely respected in the Muslim world source : http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/pope-calls-for-mutual-respect-between-christianity-islam/[b]VATICAN CITY (AFP) – Pope Francis called on Friday for “mutual respect” between Christianity and Islam and an end to “unfair criticism” in a personal message congratulating Muslims on the feast of Eid al-Fitr. Rochas will trash GEJ in 2015 should APC nominate him as their presidential candidate. Reasons: 1. GEJ has been quite poor in governance of Nigeria since he was elected as compared to Rochas although they are operating on different levels. 2. PDP has betrayed Nigerians and many people do not have confidence in the ability of the party to lift the country from the mess we are right now. We need to have an alternative to PDP. 3. The north especially North-west and North-east as well as Plateau will overwhelmingly support Rochas (they see him as one of their own) 4. He will clear the votes from South-east as well as South-west. President Jonathan's strongest base has so fat been the South-east and South-south. with this, GEJ will only count on South-south and North-central and he cannot win the election with the support of only 2 zones as against 4 zones that will likely vote for Rochas as APC's candidate. 5. Rochas has been a detribalized Nigerian whose philanthropy has touched every part of this country through his Rochas Foundation Schools. He is APC's best bet to defeat the PDP. should the APC field a northerner come 2015, it will be hard for them to sell such a candidate in any part of the south due to the current mood of the nation as a result of Boko Haram and will also help them remove the toga of being seen as an Islamic party. This is my humble opinion please. |
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner says she has asked for the Pope's intervention in the Falklands dispute between her country and the UK. The Argentine president met the Pope, who was elected last week as the successor to Benedict XVI, at a private meeting in the Vatican. She was the first foreign head of state to meet Francis, who is just five days into his papacy. At a press conference in Rome afterwards, Mrs Kirchner told journalists: “I asked his intervention to promote dialogue between the two sides.” She referred to the diplomatic confrontation as “the question of the Malvinas”. She was also quoted by Italian news agencies as saying: “I asked the Holy Father to bring together the two parties (Argentina and the UK) to prevent the issue becoming a problem again.” She noted that Pope John Paul II had mediated in a conflict between Argentina and Chile in the 1970s. Pope Francis's views on the Falkland Islands remain unclear, but he once told a congregation of Argentine veterans that those who died there during the 1982 war with Britain were "reclaiming what is theirs". During a Mass on April 2 last year to mark the 30th anniversary of the start of the war, the then Cardinal Bergoglio called for the vindication of "all" of those who fought against the British over the Falklands Islands. "We come to pray for those who have fallen, sons of the homeland who set out to defend his mother, the homeland, to claim the country that is theirs and they were usurped," he said. Mrs Kirchner has previously suggested that the Pope could help mediate in her country's dispute with Britain over the remote islands. The lunch between the Pope and Mrs Kirchner came today as world leaders arrived in Rome ahead of his inauguration mass. It was seen as a diplomatic test for Francis, the first pontiff from Latin America, who had testy relations with Mrs Kirchner when he was the bishop of Buenos Aires, particularly over gay marriage and abortion laws. Her late husband Nestor had called Jorge Mario Bergoglio "the true head of the opposition" because of his behind-the-scenes meetings with political leaders. Upon Bergoglio's surprise election as pontiff, Mrs Kirchner tersely wished him a "fruitful pastoral mission", noting that he had "tremendous responsibility on his shoulders, seeking justice, equality, brotherhood and peace among mankind." On Monday, however, the Pope appeared to have won Mrs Kirchner over with his charm. She gave the new Pontiff a mate gourd and straw, to hold the traditional Argentine tea that Francis loves, and he gave her a kiss. "Never in my life has a pope kissed me!" she said afterwards. The Pope has won hearts with his humble style but is haunted by criticism at home for failing to speak out during Argentina's brutal "Dirty War" when he was head of the country's Jesuits. The Vatican has firmly denied claims that he failed to protect two Jesuit priests who were tortured by the 1976-1983 regime, saying that he had in fact protected lives during the dictatorship. The leader of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics will be formally enthroned Tuesday at a mass in St Peter's Square, with city authorities preparing for an influx of up to a million people to Rome. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and his French counterpart Jean-Marc Ayrault are among European leaders set to attend, along with EU President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission head Jose Manuel Barroso. Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe flew into Rome on Monday, sidestepping a travel ban that applies to the EU but not to the sovereign Vatican City state. US Vice President Joe Biden, also a practising Catholic, arrived late Sunday to represent Washington at the event precipitated by the shock resignation of Francis's predecessor Benedict XVI. The Argentine president met Francis in his modest apartment in the Vatican residence, Casa Santa Marta, where he was staying as cardinal during the conclave. He has yet to move into the main papal residence. The new pope also faces a diplomatic minefield with the planned attendance of Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou, which sparked an angry response from Beijing. China, which bitterly opposes any steps that imply recognition of Taiwan by other countries, has also long had strained relations with the Vatican in a dispute about authority over Catholics in the country. In 2005 Taiwan's then president Chen Shui-bian attended John Paul II's funeral. The first meeting between the new leaders of the Catholic and Anglican churches - Francis and Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby - will have to wait, however. Welby will miss the inauguration mass because he will be on a "pilgrimage of prayer" in Britain, his office announced Sunday. Welby, who wished Pope Francis "every blessing" following his election, will be represented at the ceremony by one of the Anglican world's leading figures, Archbishop of York John Sentamu. |
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner says she has asked for the Pope's intervention in the Falklands dispute between her country and the UK. Visiting the Vatican, Mrs Kirchner said she had asked the Pope to promote dialogue between the two sides. Argentine Pope Francis was elected last week and will be formally installed as pontiff at a Mass on Tuesday. In the past he has said the Falkland Islands, a UK overseas territory, belong to Argentina. "I asked for his intervention to avoid problems that could emerge from the militarization of Great Britain in the south Atlantic," Mrs Kirchner told reporters after having lunch with the Pope. "We want a dialogue and that's why we asked the pope to intervene so that the dialogue is successful." |
Can that happen in the most organized Leauges such as those of England, Spain, Italy, Germany & France? |

The best organized institution in the world is showing humanity in clear terms how to handle sudden resignations and election of the successor. No wonder the Catholic Church with 1.2 billion members world-wide has continued to exist and surmounts challenges that come her way for nearly 2,000 years of its existence. We pray that the Holy Spirit will guide the Cardinals to elect a very worthy successor to the retiring Pope. |
hello guys, please is there any link to watch this game online? |
What is the nature of the 40K permanent job? Will you learn new skills that could help you in your career path? Is it in a well-structured organization or a one-man show? These are some of the issues to consider before choosing any one of them. If the 80K job is a casual job that you will not be proud of showing off on your CV, then the 40K job could be it if it will be relevant in climbing up the ladder. |
A big congrats to the new Cardinal. This man of God thorougly deserves the elevation. This is one of the few good news concerning Nigerians in recent times. I expect this to make front page as we should not always be fed with bad news all the times. |
I have noticed a particular trend in the Mileages of vehicles advertised on Nairaland and other Nigerian car sales websites. Why do our people take joy in deceiving the buyers by deliberately rolling backwards the odometers of vehicles being offered for sale? For instance, you will see a 2000 model toyota camry or honda accord with Odometer readings of 45,000 or at best 60,000 miles when in actual fact these vehicles have gone as much as 190,000 to 200,000 miles? Some years ago, I wanted to buy a vehicle and the Odometer was 42,000 miles but alas when I got the VIN and ran a report on it, the last reported reading in the US was 143,500 miles. Recently too, majority of the Offers I had for a particular 5-year SUV had their odometers rolled backwards by as much as 40,000 to 50,000 miles. Apart from the fact that the pricing of used cars is a bit dependent on Mileage covered amongst other considerations, but the real danger of buying a vehice with tampered Odometer readings is that you will not be able to follow the manufacturer's reccommended service intervals requirements especially things such as timing belt replacements, etc. |
Hello Bros, very many thanks for the good job you are doing here. Kindly help me check the report for this VIN: 2HKYF18547H509061 Thanks in advance |

they should not punish an innocent man simply because he supported Rochas during d election. People use his depot for through-put which is the equivalent or giving out your facility on rent or short lease. The govt should have gone after the people who brought the product for storage and warehousing instead of Capt Iheanacho. |
2006 edition prefered now due to budget constraints |

jswags: Pls nairalanders , I am supposed to study computer science but now I am been offered to choose btw physics or statistics.. Pls which one should i go for. Pls i need ur advice pls wit reasons. My dear, Physics is it! However, if you are not strong in maths, please do not go near physics as mathematics is the language of physics and as such you will be frustrated in physics if you are poor in maths. Physics offers more opportunities than statistics. I studied physics myself and I am very happy I did. |
