Botragelad: Honestly, there's no hiding place for terrorists. Israel's taking out more of them, and their supporters were warned to expect a response, so they can't say they weren't told.
And let's be clear, no one should put innocent civilians blah blah blah propaganda here, especially after Hezbollah's supporters were cheering about the attack on Israel the other day. Payback can be fun! 🇮🇱
Let the killings stop from both sides, sincerely I'm tired of seeing blood and dead people
The Israeli military has carried out a retaliatory strike in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
The target of the strike is believed to have been a senior Hezbollah military commander, Sky News understands.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) claimed the commander in the Iranian-backed group was "responsible for the murder of the children in Majdal Shams" - referring to the rocket attack on a football pitch in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that killed a dozen children and teenagers on Saturday.
Israel has blamed Hezbollah but the Lebanese militant group denied being responsible for the attack.
A Hezbollah official said the strike on Tuesday hit Beirut's southern suburb of Haret Hreik - the area around Hezbollah's Shura Council.
At least one person, a woman, has been killed in the strike, Lebanon's state-run National news agency and the Associated Press reported.
The fate of the commander reportedly targeted in the strike remains unknown, according to one security source.
Speaking from the scene, Sky News' special correspondent Alex Crawford said the suburb is a densely populated Hezbollah stronghold.
There is a fair amount of fire and a fair number of other buildings that have been impacted," Crawford said.
Wider war is not inevitable, US says
In the aftermath of the football pitch attack at the weekend, the US led a drive by diplomats to try and prevent Israel from retaliating.
The White House reiterated its position on Tuesday, saying that it does not believe war between Hezbollah and Israel is inevitable.
Meanwhile, Russia said the strike on Lebanon is a "flagrant violation of international law," Russian news agency Tass reported.
Iran also said it strongly condemned the strike, calling it "sinful and cowardly Israeli aggression".
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed heavy retaliation against the Hezbollah at the weekend.
The office of Mr Netanyahu did not immediately respond after the strike on Tuesday, but within minutes, a photo of the prime minister with his national security adviser and other officials was released.
Speaking about Hezbollah's denial over the Golan Heights attack, Crawford said it is "out of kilter" for the armed group to not take responsibility for an attack, even if it had made a mistake.
"This is the tinderbox situation, which could explode into regional war," Crawford said, adding: "No one is taking any guesses right now over whether that is going to be able to be contained."
Mr president to the best of my knowledge never campaigned as a magician he campaigned as a statesman. He campaigned on the basis of renewed hope. When you want to reprocess a system that has been down you need a bit of time''

At least 15 children and eight women were among the 31 Palestinians killed in an Israeli air strike on the Khadija School in Deir al Balah in central Gaza, the government media office has said.
Earlier, the Gaza government media office said on Saturday that 31 Palestinians, including children, were killed and 100 others injured when Israeli warplanes struck the school, which also served as a field hospital. In a statement, the media office stated that three missiles hit a facility sheltering thousands of displaced people.
The Israeli military admitted earlier Saturday to targeting the school, claiming it housed a Hamas command centre, according to a statement from army spokesperson Avichay Adraee.
Hamas condemned the strike, asserting that the school housed "displaced innocent civilians, mostly women and children."
Throughout the war, the Israeli military has urged Palestinians to move to these so-called humanitarian zones. Still, these areas have also been attacked, drawing condemnation from international organisations and governments.
