Numerous candidates who sat for the Unilag Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination of the have cried foul over the alleged refusal of the university to release their results after experiencing a outage while writing the examination. The candidates, who sat for the computer-based test last month, claimed that officials did not rectify the issues which occurred minutes into the examination, a situation which led to their results being withheld. About 32,000 candidates sat for the examination which held in August at various centres within the institution. The university’s management had since announced that 17,935 candidates passed the examination with a minimum score of 40 per cent. One of the candidates, Adeola Adebisi, however, said she was not able to log in again after the outage, despite assurances from the invigilators. She called on authorities at the university to release her results without further delay. “My schedule time was 7:30 am but I started my examination around 11:30 am due to delay connected with the sitting arrangements and screening. The examination was computer-based and the duration was 30 minutes. But 27 minutes after the commencement of my exam, the system took away the question and displayed Connection Failed, which actually happened to almost every candidate in the hall at that particular time. So, we had to notify the invigilators and they asked us to log in again. This was not successful. We told them we could not log in again and they collected our examination schedule and told us they would have to reload our questions,” she said. Another candidate, Oluwasola Ogunbuyide, who claimed she was allowed to rewrite the examination the day after the outage disrupted the examination, said she was disturbed that the university had yet to release her result. “My registration number is 56185060HB and I did not engage in any malpractice. I was scheduled to sit for the test on August 12, 2015. But the arrangement was truncated when I was writing the exam. The officers in charge rescheduled my test for the following day. But my result has been withheld. I am appealing to UNILAG to please release my result,” she said. But, while admitting that there was outage in all the examination centres, the Head, Information Unit of the university, Mr. Olagoke Oke, said power was restored and candidates were given extra time to finish the examination. Oke, who also admitted that some results were withheld by the authorities, maintained that the withheld results had nothing to do with the outage. “It (outage) was a general complaint. Power was restored and they were given extra time. About 32,000 candidates sat for the examination. Some candidates had problems because they were not familiar with online tests. Some were challenged because there was no paper test. All the results were released except for the results of less than 200 candidates,” he said. http://www.guru9ja.com/2015/09/post-utme-applicants-storm-unilag-over.html |
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has inspected over 600 facilities nationwide for accreditation as centres for the conduct of the 2016 Computer Based Test (CBT). The Public Relations Officer of The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dr Fabian Benjamin, according to him said over 600 facilities nationwide have been so far inspected for accreditation as centres for the conduct of the 2016 Computer Based Test (CBT). It was learnt that the board intends to inspect over 1, 000 facilities for accreditation and that only those that met the requirements would be accredited as centres for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). He emphasized that the board is very much interested in the technical aspect of each of the facilities and called for more public and private partnership in establishing well equipped centres. “Some of the things we are looking out for have a lot to do with the technical aspect. “For these centres to meet our requirements, they must have not less than 250 computers with reliable power source. “The computer centres must be integrated with the local area network and there must equally be a high and accessible security in and around such centres.” Benjamin said. source : http://www.guru9ja.com/2015/09/jamb-begins-accreditation-of-cbt.html |

A female student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Miss Oreoluwa Adedamola, has been arrested by the men of the Ogun State Anti-Robbery Squad, for being in possession of a locally-made gun. These is so sadden as the 20-year-old lady, who claimed to be an OND 2 Mass Communication student, was arrested on August 29 at Ifo, around 11.45pm, while travelling in a mini-truck with one Sikiru Kelani. She was said to be among the suspects paraded by the Ogun State police commissioner, Abdulmajid Ali, on Tuesday at the state command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta. However, while speaking with our correspondent, Oreoluwa, who wept profusely, said it was Kelani that hid the gun inside her bag without her knowledge. She explained that she knew Kelani, a self-confessed member of Bucaneer confraternity, through her late boyfriend, Akeem, who was also a Marketing student at MAPOLY. She said, “On the day I was arrested, I came from Lagos to attend the candle light procession organised for my late boyfriend, Akeem, in Abeokuta. “After the event, I went to my friend’s place where I had intended to pass the night, but she had travelled out of town to Ijebu Ode. It was at this point this ‘street brother’ (Sikiru Kelani) to my late boy friend, asked me to pass the night in his place. “I was already sleeping when he woke me up around after 9pm, and said we are travelling to Oshodi in Lagos. I was baffled because it was already late. “He lied to me that there was problem in the house, and we had to leave. He told me we should use the opportunity to attend a party being organised by his friend in Lagos. On our way, he stopped to see some people at Ori Iyanrin in Abeokuta. That was the last I knew about the case.” Kelani, while speaking with our correspondent, confessed that he was the one who hid the gun in Oreoluwa’s bag when he sighted the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on the highway at Ifo. He said he was on his way to Oshodi, Lagos, to attend a friend’s party when himself and Oreoluwa were arrested. http://www.guru9ja.com/2015/09/a-female-student-of-mapoly-caught-in.html |

The Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, warned that certificates obtained from the institutions would not be accorded recognition for the purpose of election and participation in the National Youth Service Corps.
