did FG close down the refinery u built just to promote Dangotes refinery? ur uzor kalu will steal ur money and run to UK, Atiku steals and run to Dubai, Amaechi steals and run to Texas but u are here fighting a man who invest heavily in his home town, a man who provides job.
As long as he will not run to America and build big companies, he should keep monopolising us.

The FG should loan the other licensees money and grant them the exact same operational conditions

License does not equate action. Dangote so far is the only one to be brave enough to take action.

I'm amazed that with what you have experienced in Nigeria you are basing argument on license. And you claim to know so much.

Everyday newspaper headline is govtbto build this, govt to establish that. How many of them ever get done. Stop being naive.

Okay. Dangote build a refinery the day he got license. Nice one

. Since you're smart in your eyes fool. When we talk monopoly it looks like we don't know what we're talking about. How many other people the FG granted license did the FG give the money to build them like they did with Dangote. Shioor

This is a good proposal that can increase production of local refinery. The con to this is that there is no major step by local stakeholders to build refineries that can cushion the effect of underproduction should dangote be experiencing a downtime. Hence dangote is remains a monopoly. The resultant effect is that independent oil marketers will be excluded from importation and shortage of refined product at high cost.

In that case the NNPC should reserve the right to solely import during emergencies

Why do they bend towards importation? How did the importation benefits you as a Nigerian? Nigerian citizens deserve the leaders they get....smh

There are so many reasons. One of which is their greed get quick dollars and then import, it's not so with all at the same time. Use your brain.

Then why quote pricing for cements without putting it against the grade of the cement

Modular is good, but can't solve our demand anytime soon. Dangotw can refine 600k barrels. Walter Smith is refining 5k barrels.

Dude, Dangote started from license just like the others. Your comment says alot about your awareness. Do your digging. Other refineries are in the pipelines. There's a Yoruba billionaire too in the mix with around 450,009 barrels a day capacity, BUA with 250,000 barrels a day and much more

.. Hahaha. So you think. That's what the media wants you to believe. There are other macro refineries in the pipeline and lots of modular refineries. Do your research. For mega refineries there are over 20 licenses and much more for modular refinieries

Well said. I have researched online price of cement where Dangote has cement plant. Prices are comparable to Nigeria. In some cases a bit cheaper and in some cases a bit more expensive.

Not generic pricing. Quality and grade applies to cement. Nigerians pay higher for cement than it is in the international market

Dangote wasn't the first to be given license to build refinery. The license was given to otedola but instead of building a refinery he decided to import fuel and made made billions from subsidies by importation...Dangote decided to do the needful and you guys are just talking nonsense.

He's not helping anyone. After securing licenses to build a refinery which is hectic, then fresh beuaucracries threaten full scale development although many whose sought licenses naturally bent towards importation. It doesn't mean he should swallow up the whole oil industry

This is not really true. You can predict the future from looking at the past.
Nigeria has one of the most expensive cement prices in the world. Infact, you can import cement from China and it will be way cheaper than Dangote cement. The question now becomes of what benefit is it to Nigeria as a country when we have a massive housing shortage and expensive cement prices?

Open the market to everybody, it should be a raise to the bottom. If Dangote can refine fuel cheaper than those importing, they would go out of business.

The reason why Dangote wants importation to be limited is market manipulation.

You can imagine we import. Tomatoes and it reaches here at 40 Naira 50 Naira per satchet. Immediately Dangote hinted market entry and his monopoly, we started to see strange price skyrocketing.

Thankfully, this is an open situation Nigerians can refer to. Did we not all see price of satches tomatoes running towards 150/200 Naira per satchet?

If we achieve local content production and give as much grant as possible and they milk the stock exchange market and manipulate stock prices so they pay off low dividends. What then does Nigeria benefit from all their whole complex machinery?

Danmgote has two factories in South Africa....plus

1,South Africa has better electricity supply than Nigeria....cost from running generator gone

2.South Africa has a good railway system....cost of transport gone down

3.South Africa has a good road system...cost of transport gone down

4.South Africa can afford a good road and railway system because they diversify their economy, plus they also charge higher taxes...their tax to gdp ratio is 23% Nigeria is 6.1%, plus there is a toll on some south African roads (attempts to reintroduce tolls in Nigeria led to growling and protesting)..plus electric companies in SA charge cost reflective tarrifs, and don't have people and government agencies refusing to pay their power bills either

Be deceiving yourself there. Dangote is merely buying legitimacy with global Dangote cement while the shady nonsense is perpetuated here since the profits are hedged here against the loses there. Dey deceive yourself assuming everyone is dumb

alhaji,

Nigeria does not need subsidy, as far as market entry restrictions can be removed.
Dangote will rather die than operate in a fully perfect competitive market. He is using all influence possible to keep the markets restricted, or at least very difficult to enter. Forget the audio licences issued to refiners, let them try to start construction and watch dangote and his government minions frustrate them out of business. We all know the unwritten code.

I can tell u stories of licence holders who were frustrated by the same government that issues the licences.

Don't mind that joker deceiving himself as a minister of truth. The moment it is adhered to, Dangote and his government cronies will frustrate the lives of the competitors. For example, it is easy to conjure papers to supply Dangote in Naira at extremely subsidised rates in undeclared papers would they prefer secrets. If others are admitted in the industry, they would require open dealings and transparency which he rather die than see happen

If he or anyone has intricate reports of the nnnerlinings of any business Dangote has ever put hand in, I'll keep quiet. He can declare it. Vagueness and cult-like secretes everywhere

Plus, where is it that Dangote wants to restrict the market? Did he stop BUA from opening his refinery in Imo

Answer that.

You don't want to pay N200 for fuel , that's why you are giving me this convoluted argument about Dangote being this monopolist.

Subsidies don't work.

He should focus on his refinery and leave the oil. Industry alone

Indeed. You must be Dangote son. Why are your emotions stirred up. Before playing the ostrich address why Dangote hates open market and competition and what's his business with fuel. Importation. If you were one of those whose legitimate businesses would be closed up that has taken some 40 years to build you'd interact more rationally.

Apart form Dangote there are 24 active licenses for refining crude oil that have been issued in Nigeria ...see them here

Plus the reason why there are no more than that number is because it isn't profitable to refine fuel in Nigeria because we really haven't deregulated the downstream oil sector.

Dude I've heard that so many times. Nigeria granted over 20 refineries license since 2001/2005 windows that isn't new.

Arguing that it costs the economy long term means nothing to them...cheap fuel, even if it bankrupts the economy

Why can't your Dangote produce his own crude and let other sources that have been in operations for over 50 years continue their own activities?

There are 25 active licences for fuel refining in Nigeria, three of which are at completion state, two others are at constructon stage.

Dangote is restricting no one.

The problem is government fixing the price of PMS makes PMS refining in Nigeria a hard business. Which is why most private investors are staying away for now. Even Danogte stands to lose if government keeps up the subsidy they are clearly paying despite the lying about not paying it.

So, did Dangote stop BUA improving production? BUA that has 4 factories across Nigeria, compared to Dangote's 3?

There is no monopoly in cememt...BUA and Lafarge last i checked were not out of business. Plus, there would be more refienreis if Nigerians stop protesting any moves to deregulate the downstream sector. (AND IF we dont deregulate, Dangote's refinery is going to crash in ten years because it won't be profitable then)

1.There is no monopoly in cement production in Nigeria.

2.Dereguation of the downstream sector will stimulate more licencees to start work on their refineries. Dangote won't be there to frustrate them

Smiles. Then why is the market semi-closed in cement and why does he want same in crude oil and why did the BUA chief himself advocate a more open economy. You know more than him?
