Ernestsimeon: You need to first have your mouth checked by a dentist. Bad breath may be caused by several things ranging from a hole in the tooth to having gum issues. Causes of Bad breath/mouth odour We all experience bad breath at one point or the other. When a person wakes up after long hours of sleep, there is usually an accompanying odour on opening his mouth. This happens because the mouth has been shut for long and we produce less saliva while sleeping. The following are the causes of bad breath: Food such as garlic and onions: when you eat onion or garlic, it gets absorbed into the blood stream and transferred to the lungs. When you breathe, the odour comes out from the lungs and can sometimes linger in the breath for days. Those who eat 'Suya' garnished with onions can relate with this. Respiratory infections such as common cold, tonsillitis, sinusitis, lung abscess etc cause bad breath. Poor oral hygiene practices: not brushing your teeth and tongue regularly will surely give you bad breath. Some dental conditions such as: Tooth decay: food particles often accumulate in teeth with holes thereby giving a bad odour. Chronic gum diseases: people who use tooth picks indiscriminately (the wooden ones commonly sold) are prone to having gum diseases. They have spaces/pockets between the teeth which allows food particles pack there leading to bad breath. Dry mouth (xerostomia): this is seen in people who breathe through the mouth. It can also be a side effect of some medications. Overlapping teeth: it is usually tasking to clean teeth tightly packed together. Sometimes, plaque and food particles lodge around the teeth resulting in bad breath. Impacted wisdom tooth: food particles get trapped in the gum flap surrounding the impacted wisdom tooth/between the wisdom tooth and the tooth in front. It is often difficult to clean this area thereby giving rise to mouth odour. Dental infections: pus discharge from dental infections also cause mouth odour. akagson: From your description, what you scratch off with your fingernail is referred to as plaque. When plaque accumulates, it hardens to form tartar/calculus which can not be removed by brushing. To get rid of the smell, you'll need to visit a dentist for 'scaling and polishing' simply called professional cleaning, brush your teeth twice daily(morning and last thing before bed) and floss your teeth everyday. |
Health / Re: Please Help, I Have Hole In My Tooth. by flexidentist: 2:55pm On Jul 08, 2016 |
Fabrolistic: Root canal treatment is an alternative to removing ones tooth so long as the state of the tooth is not so bad. Why not discuss with your dentist and see if you can have the treatment done. Meanwhile, please stop putting all sorts to avoid complications. |
Health / What To Do In Common Dental Emergencies by flexidentist: 1:20pm On Mar 01, 2016 |
The chances of a tooth surviving after an injury depends largely on what is done between the time the injury occurs and the time the patient presents to the dentist. A cut on your lip, cheek or tongue: first rinse out with warm water and salt. If it is a small cut(such as a bite), bleeding will stop on its own; however, if it's a deep cut, you will need to apply some pressure on the wound using a clean/new piece of cloth(preferably a white handkerchief) for 15 to 20 mins. If bleeding doesn't stop, keep applying pressure on the wound and visit a dentist or a hospital emergency unit immediately. Toothache: rinse out with warm water and salt. Then gently floss the area to remove any food particle(do not apply aspirin on the tooth). You can take 'pain relief' and see your dentist as soon as possible. If your tooth fractures(breaks off): locate the broken piece, then rinse your mouth with warm water. If you notice bleeding from the tooth, apply a piece of gauze/clean folded piece of cloth(white handkerchief) and bite on it for about 10 mins. See a dentist immediately. You also can apply ice wrapped in a piece of cloth on the cheek to prevent swelling. When the whole tooth is knocked out after a blow or fall: If it is an adult tooth, carefully pick the tooth by the crown being mindful not to touch the root(the long part of the tooth not visible in the mouth). Rinse it to remove dirt without scrubbing or touching the root and gently place the tooth back in its place taking care to put it rightly. If you are not able to replace the tooth, you can keep it in a cup of milk or place the tooth between your cheek and gum and see a dentist immediately(do not delay). If the tooth is a baby tooth, do not place back in the socket. Read more http://www.flexidentist.com/2016/02/what-to-do-in-common-dental-emergencies.html |

The following are sure ways to get your child interested in toothbrushing: 1.Colourful toothbrushes with their favorite cartoon character: toothbrush manufacturers have been able to make toothbrushes for children with various cartoon characters. Characters such as Barbie, and Spider-man are examples of those toothbrushes. You can take them shopping and allow them pick their toothbrush. 2. julyb: Please get your baby to the hospital to see a doctor, it's probably an infection. Teething is not associated with vomiting and diarrhea. Your baby could run a bit of fever and be irritable but not vomiting and diarrhea you stated. http://www.flexidentist.com/2015/12/misconceptions-about-teething.html?m=1 1 Like |

cashcity: From all you've said, you probably have stains caused by Tetracycline. Tetracycline if given to a child less than 8 years old will lead to permanent stains. Please do not accept defeat as there are ways of covering it. See a dentist to discuss what your options are. |

Mescopaul: Please see a dentist asap Tips for getting relief from toothache Having toothache during the day is no big deal as you can easily stop by at the dentists office to get relief. However if you develop toothache during the night/weekends when the office is closed, you will need the following tips to give you relief: Warm water and salt rinse: get a small cup of warm water(not hot because hot water will trigger pain) add a leveled tea spoon of salt and stir. Then rinse your mouth with it making sure the warm solution gets to the painful tooth. You could tilt your head sideways to achieve that. The warm water gives soothing relief while the salt is antibacterial. For fast relief, you will need to rinse frequently. Do not chew with the side of the mouth that is painful as chewing could trigger pain Avoid hot or cold drinks as they may initiate pain. Avoid sweet drinks or food. You could take pain relieving drugs sold over the counter. Pills that work for pain in other parts of the body will work for toothache too. The drug should be swallowed and NOT placed on the tooth/gum because it could burn the gum/cheek causing more damage. Oil of clove: studies have shown that this essential oil has antibacterial and analgesic(pain relieving) properties. To use, Put 2 to 3 drops in a bowl and add little olive oil. Then Place a few drops of the mixture on cotton wool and apply on the painful tooth. Please note that the tips mentioned above are to give you temporary relief, visit your dentist as soon as possible to have him/her check out the cause of the pain and give you a permanent solution. http://www.flexidentist.com/2015/12/tips-for-getting-relief-from-toothache.html?m=1 |
